All you have to do is find the apk and install it. And since I happen to be a nice guy I found it and downloaded it for you. Problem is I already had a couple of email.apks on my HD so I believe this is the correct one you are looking for if not let me know and I will get the right one. Anyways put it on your sdcard and install it or push it to /system/app/ with adb.

"there was a problem parsing the package"
Sorry, i am not the original threader, but wanted to join. Didn't even know there is another email client that can be used.
In any case, can't open the package. ):

It installed on Cyanogen 5.0.6.2 for me (on Droid), but since I couldn't get the 2.2 browser installed, I couldn't do anything with it.
won't even allow me to download this on my Diamond running 2.1 figured. It wouldn't work but get error not supported when downloading.
DAMN ADOBE TO HELL!!!
Lol
Thanks for this upload. Downloading now
And I know people keep reciting "it's in the Market, get it there..."
It really helps me out that you uploaded this since I'm currently deployed in the desert and don't have reliable/affordable data access. 4.1MB that I don't have to download over the air is a huge deal to me.
Thanks again!

Here's recompiled APK for 2.1. It installs, but browser does not "see" it. Here's explanation why.
Android 2.2 has a new feature called com.google.android.feature.GOOGLE_PLUGIN. And Flash usesit to embed itself inside browser. So browser in 2.1 does not see plugin.
BUT!There's another thing inside - a permission called android.webkit.permission.PLUGIN. It is already used by Flash Lite on HTC devices. So my APK will work and replace Flash Lite. But I did not test, because I do own... Acer Liquid!
So! HTC users! Try this one! And if it will work instead of your flash lite - report. Your help will be used to port full-blown Flash to other 2.0 and 2.1 devices (yeah! 2.0 is also supported!).
View attachment flash_for_21.apk
Then...it's possible to port 2.2 browser?
I'm working on it...
I can't open the market app on 2.2!
Says its installed but open box is grayed out...can't open.
Rebooted...reflashed.
Anyone have a clue?
Thanks
(Went from KangoRama to full wipe to Paul's prerooted froyo.
You can't "open" flash, use the browser, go to a website with flash and it will work.

[APP] Google Mail 2.3.2

Hi,
attached is the new version of gmail.
with friendly greet
starbase64
i have rooted Desire with AuraxTsense rom ... g mail is "locked" to the rom so i can't uninstall it or update...
is possible to have a renamed .apk (just like for googl maps "brut modded") so i can install both and then use the updated one? or where i can found it? tnx
I have this on my Vibrant but it still doesn't have the priority inbox feature.
I managed to find the apk on one of the Samsung forums shortly after its announcement - using a MIUI build on my HD2, and it didn't like pasting the new Gmail over the old one in /system/app/, nor removing the old one and pasting the new one - it was still showing the previous version without the priority inbox and so forth. To fix this, I had to restore the original Gmail apk that I'd backed up, then clear data from the settings/applications menu, then paste the new apk, then install over it from the market.
Native Android users will need to be rooted to do this, if it wasn't obvious.

You should be able to remove the original with Titanium Backup, then you should be good to go.
You people do know that this is available from the Market, and will update the version in your phone's /system folder just fine.
Right?

Apparently they don't... I updated it yesterday here from the market, although I don't use the GMail app at all...
The update is not yet available to everyone. TBH I cannot see most of the Google apps in the market myself.
This is just an opportunity for those less fortunate to mess around with it.

This won't work on 2.1 right?

That mail.apk will not install. Yes the gmail app is installed but I need to add an Exchange account and the default email app was not packed in the ROM.
solved
open the 'updateme' app that came with it and it is located under 'apps' along with other things normally missing form the stock ICS

disabling Administrator controls for Exchange policy

Hi guys!
I have a question....right now i have my work exchange account setup on my phone. The administrator policy requires that i set a 8 digit passcode in order to get into my phone everytime i need to use is. this is EXTREMELY annoying. Is there anyway to "hack" or get around it so i dont need to enter a passcode anymore, but the exchange server still see's the policy on my phone? Just curious. Thanks!
You dont mention what version you running on your phone (GB or ICS), but there are options for this. Here is one someone modded the Email to make the backend think the policy is in place but the requirement for having a pin is removed. But this is for GB I believe.

Are you running the stock ICS? Or some custom ROM for ICS? Which version, you need to be a bit more specific.
There are ROMs already created that have these Email.apk's modified for bypassing the Exchange Policy, but some you have to do that rom, others you could pull the APK and put it into yours (if you are deodex'ed of course).
Like here is one that has it already removed.

sorry for not providing all info, im running Custom Rom, SkyICS 4.2E, and it is deodexed
Then you can pull the two Email APKs from the Romracer ZIP and push them onto your phone via ADB or Root Explorer or however you want, make sure permissions and ownership is set right, and that should take care of it.

Thanks a bunch. One last question (for now) Do you know what the permissions need to be setup as?
Permissions on any app/apk you dump into /System/App (which is where these two APKs for the email need to do) need to be set to RW-R--R-- and ownership has to be "root:root".

crud, the email apk is the stock email app Will this work with any of the google ICS email apks?
What you mean? If you replace the two email APKs it will bring the Samsung Native email app. If you want the Google (AOSP style) one then you will need to find a rom or say even a Galaxy SII based custom rom where someone has modified the APK to remove the exchange policy.
If you search you will probably also run across a thread (cant find it right now) where it actually shows you how to decompile and modify the APK itself to remove the policy, then recompile it.

On Alpha 3 I was able to use the ICS modified ones, but for some reason I am unable to delete or copy them in the Alpha 4 release, so I went back to GB.

Here you go, from CM9 20120614 nightly build, modified to disable exchange security: cm9-email-exchange-4.1-nosec.zip
Note: This is NOT CWM flashable, you'll need to extract the 2 apks from the zip and copy / push to system/app.

Google AOSP Email App

Is it possible to get this app running on our G3? I don't like the stock email app it doesn't handle contacts correctly with exchange.
I figured it out. I placed both files in System/App and gave them permission 0644. RW-R-R. Rebooted and Android upgraded and the Email was there.

I just switched to LG and don't like the stock email one bit.
Is that apk for the google stock email (yellow colored)? Sorry, I'm not familiar with AOSP, so idk if it's the same one or not.
Thanks!!
Yes it's yellow. The @ symbol on the LG stock email app is black outlined. On the aosp it's white. Hope this helps.

Thanks man!! I know I must have sounded stupid describing the yellow @ sign!! Actually the @ sign and the letter are both yellow. The envelope is open and the color is white (See attached picture). I'm just so used to using that email app on Samsungs!!
I read that the stock email app was available on the playstore, but I wasn't able to find it. I'm guessing I wasn't able to because I'm using the G3, idk!
I'm gonna follow the steps you posted about placing the files and tinkering with permissions. Looking forward to seeing it works.
Thanks again!
newer version
I have successfully installed the version above. The question is that this is the 6.2 version and my nexus 7 has 6.3 installed. I tried to copy those files to my g3 but the apk files were smaller with odex files. I just couldn't get it to run with or without the odex files . Any idea?

Try these
Will anything nasty happen if I just install them as a normal app rather than a system app? I just clicked on the apk and installed like normal and it seemed to work fine, but wanted to make sure there weren't any unforeseen security issues.
