I am currently running a sense 3.0 Rom on my desire S. I am deciding if I should flash a rom without sense but id like to get some feedback first. Do you prefer sense or stock and why?
Sense is very functional but Vanilla is very very fast and you can still find replacement widgets if you want.
What is vanilla? Where does it come from? Can you point me to a site
With screenshots?
XDA Premium App
HTC Desire S
Virtuous Unity v1.31
EXT4Recovery v2.1.3 RC2
Vanilla is stock Android with no manufacturer modifications.

You can't get vanilla, vanilla is basically pure Android, on Nexus S ONLY. You mean AOSP ROMs, which are even more pure than vanilla. (It's a bit hard to explain.... )
Now, AOSP ROMs have a HUGE variety, i recommend MIUI.
I bought my DS specially for sene UI. I liked 2.1 and now loving 3.0 interface is awesome suited for me as any other non replaceable.
a friend of mine some day ago suggested me to go for an AOSP Rom as i just rooted tmy DS and im having hard time to choose a ROM ;p
I'm waiting for the perfect Sense3.0 or the perfect AOSP..
Not used vanilla
Anyone have some screenshots of vanilla?
Just google Nexus S screenshot.
Sense 3.0 for me all the way. I love the widgets and the flip clock
I think you all meen this 2...

spot on, as always a picture speaks a thousand words

With Sense 3.0 I get more information accessible faster with a sexier interface. Vanilla is however cleaner and faster. It has both it's advantages imo.
Sense roms are almost 4 times heavier than AOSP roms (300mb vs 80mb). AOSP roms give 'fluid' experience - everything just flies. And yes, there's no function within Sense that can't be reproduced on AOSP rom with side-loaded application.
There's another important consideration too - no one has made a fully functional AOSP rom. There's some glitch or two that prevents us from using the full capabilities of the DS whether it is camera, sound or whatever.
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Sense 3.0 was one of the main reasons I rooted my DS. I haven't actually tried a vanilla ROM yet - I think I prefer Sense because of the eye-candy
cant really say that sense is slow or sluggish on the DS... its actually flying for me! i know vanilla roms will b faster a tad, but still.. lacking all the eye candy and native integration imo.
Sense all the way for me
For me, Vanilla is kind'a naked. Sense2.1/3.0 all the way.
I have tried a lot of ROMs that came out. Since i bought my Desire S I wanted to try out Sense 3.0 I like Sense' functionality, yes, sure it does not run as smooth as the Vanilla ROMs but I just reverted to Seon 3.0 because of the facebook and twitter integration, the dialer, contacts app, friend stream and for the more sexier interface.
I tried out some vanilla roms and I really liked the speed of everything and even more customization options, overclocking etc. but the user experience is very poor in my opinion.
Bottom line:
Sense 3.0 - Best user experiance
Vanilla - Speed and performance.

Not sure what you are saying, android.git.kernel.org Is still down and there was an announcement by Google and Samsung telling they postponed the October 11 event
And yea do you mean they released a sdk preview - I think no as of now
...
That's more like it The other 'leaked screenshots' looked 10x worse than this haha
Looks much slicker IMO
I love that blue miui style clock, anyone know of one on the market close to that?
I don't get why all of Google's products have to look like they were created in the 90's. With all of the amazing artistic talent out there why dont they hire some people to come up with something a little more visually pleasing.

Looks nice and simple. Sharp edges, basic lines ...
Let's wait and see - as always in those cases real one can still be very different ...
I'm not seeing anything remotely interesting about the appearance of ICS. I along with most other people here, will just install our favourite Launcher, port across our current themes/set-ups, (or create new ones), and simply enjoy the under-the-bonnet improvements that ICS brings.
I'm not sure i like the blue highlights in the status bar for example, but again, everyone will just theme it to a colour they like. I'll be waiting to see what comes with Cyanogenmod and what Themes are included with it.
I totally agree with iphone fans that Android has, and probably always will, looked crap out of the box. It's strength is the ability to get creative and make it look good.
I am disappointed, UI looks like **** on these screenshots. I hope that it will be fast.

probably why it doesn't look so great to begin with. they encourage users to customize by not putting too much effort into visuals

Hi guys, i have 2 questions for you
1- I want to flash a 2.3.7 ROM, but the only thing stopping me from that is the "HTC sense weather widget with the clock" (check the picture) and the fact that i'm going lose the home screen animation so is it possible to download it or install it and have full functionality with the screen animation and everything?

2- I want a stable ROM and i dont know which to chose "Reaper V1.4 - CM7mod" or "CyanogenMod 7.1 Nightly Builds" which one is more stable and YOU prefer and why?
I dont want a boring ROM, i want something that i can change a lot of stuff when i get bored.
I know i can try both, but i dont like flashing my phone a lot!! i'm now using Endymion V2.2 and already there is Endymion V3.4 but i didn't updated it because i didn't had any problems and there is not any major changes in v3.4
Thanks a lot!
You guys are awesome!
1. A combination of BeWeather Pro (from Market - check out the video) and Beautiful widgets and Home Screen Weather animations should take you close to the Sense Weather experience, but it will NEVER be Sense.
2. Use Reaper. Reason? - Best in class Support. Regular and significant Updates. Lowveld's Tweaks (that's like a separate category of goodies in itself!!). And it's synced with the CM7 source anyway...

Sense Light? HTC make jokes?
"But HTC has different plans. Apparently, HTC is cooking up a “lite” version of Sense 4.0 that is slated for the Sensation line of devices, and most likely some other HTC handsets."

They have already release the Sense 4.0 features, some of which have hardware requirements that our Sensation can't do.
I am sure it will have the same look and feel as the full Sense 4.x so get over yourself and just be grateful our device has more updates coming.

I think the camera has some special functions in the "One"-series from HTC
Sent from my Pyramid
Hi Sebastian,
As mentioned definately the camera as we don't have that image chip to perform the quick adjustments on focus and taking pictures or taking pictrues while recording HD.
I would imagine the look and feel will be the same, but we ill have to see.
Looking at the One V's featues literally does seem to be the one thing that we will lack.
If they push Sense 4 to older devices they might not have the processing power for some other features, so it will be "liter" based on what your phone can do as they said.
well....I fail to see how they can do a 'light' version of Sense 4.0 when the ONE S ports are running soo fast..and they are 'full' versions of Sense 4.0
They won't refer to it as lite, they are doing the opposite if that article is anything to go by and saying it will be as feature complete as the target phones hardware allows.
Regardless of ports it won't be able to use a chip that doesn't exist.
I dont see how landscape homescreen and lockscreen need new hardware features..and neither does sense 4.0 widget adding...
Not sure about Beats but if I am not wrong, the One series does not have a hardware audio chip for Beats
The article is from 3rd of March and i think it refers to the actual Sense 3.6. FALSE ALARM. Who needs sense4 anyways?

No one said those features couldn't be on a Sense 4.x version for the Sensation.
I don't think system wide beats uses any specific hardware feature either.
Since 4.1 has started to make its way around now do you think it's worth keeping the sense launcher or do you still have a goto launcher that you prefer over sense?

apex/nova are my favorites, never really liked sense.
With 4.1 Rosie and and 4x5 mod I'm very happy with sense.
Nova and apex can be smoother but i love the sense widgets
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I use Apex myself. The free version of Apex has more features than Nova in my experience. The two things missing from Apex compared to Rosie are (1) the amazing Sense widgets and (2) the easy way to add widgets to the home screen.
You probably should just try out the different launchers for a few days each and pick your favorite. It is very much a personal taste thing.
You can always shell out a couple of dollars for HD Widgets or Beautiful Widgets to replace the sense widgets.
Here is my main home screen from Apex, and for reference.

I love the smooth clean look of sense. I've ALWAYS had problems with 3rd party launchers so I tend to stay away from them
I have 2 docks so Apex is a must. Love the swipe gestures too. My desktop setup also requires to be able to overlap widgets.
Gotta admit the Sense Widgets are very pretty and somewhat useful.
Sent from my HTC One X
I use Nova Prime, which I have grown to love, but I miss the Sense widgets. Sense is actually a decent launcher. The only reason I'm still using Nova is because I used it on my Skyrocket and was able to keep my desktop backup. If I ever took the time to actually recreate my folders, I may switch to Sense.
nova
I like sense, but I feel a little too bounded or restricted or something. Just doesnt feel like it is as robust as it should be. no landscape, no scrollable dock,gestures or eyecandy customizations in sense, which is surprising cause it feels so choppy and laggy on 4.0.
I'm running CleanROM developer edition so I mainly only need sense for the camera and messaging features. I prefer a clean asop look so I can theme it to whatever I'm feeling at the moment. I really have no use for all the social widgets.

hi...
i have a question...
i have tried so many ROMs of HTC Sensation from this forum....
and i still not found the best ROM is right for my HTC Sensation yet..
now i'm talking about the ICS Multitasking display.
(i categorized it in 4 numbers)
1.
like in ROM ARHD, sense 3.6, AOSP, the multitasking display is like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and this display is verry common in most of all ICS devices..
2.
and this is AOKP multitasking display, similar with Sense4..
3.
and this is MIUI multitasking display (miuiandroid.com)
4.
and this is other version MIUI multitasking display (roms.miui.us)
i download that roms from this link, http://roms.miui.us/romsnippet.php?device=pyramid
so, i'm verry interested with that Number.4 multitasking display..
that display is verry cool and verry practical, i never seen that multitasking display before.
but that ROM have some Bugs, and poor camera, and its Dev has not developed that rom, so i try to find other rom that have similar Multitasking display like the Number.4 and HTC Sense Based because the Camera quality, the finally i found HyperMIUI rom from this forum, but the multitasking display is not like Number.4..
And yesterday i found MIUI GALNET/Scotland it have similar multitasking display like the number.4, but i'm not sure that multitasking display is originally from that ROM, and sadly the MIUI GALNET is closed and not develop rom again.
can anyone help me and suggest to me, what is HTC Sense based ROM that have Multitasking display like the Number.4 ?
Or, a tutorial to modify multitasking display in Sense based Rom? Is that possible?
please..
I don't think there is one. I haven't seen one.
And you might want to change that screenshot, because you can see .apk's of paid apps.
