Opinions on sense 4.1 vs 3rd party launchers. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Since 4.1 has started to make its way around now do you think it's worth keeping the sense launcher or do you still have a goto launcher that you prefer over sense?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

apex/nova are my favorites, never really liked sense.

With 4.1 Rosie and and 4x5 mod I'm very happy with sense.
Nova and apex can be smoother but i love the sense widgets

I use Apex myself. The free version of Apex has more features than Nova in my experience. The two things missing from Apex compared to Rosie are (1) the amazing Sense widgets and (2) the easy way to add widgets to the home screen.
You probably should just try out the different launchers for a few days each and pick your favorite. It is very much a personal taste thing.
You can always shell out a couple of dollars for HD Widgets or Beautiful Widgets to replace the sense widgets.
Here is my main home screen from Apex, and for reference.

I love the smooth clean look of sense. I've ALWAYS had problems with 3rd party launchers so I tend to stay away from them

I have 2 docks so Apex is a must. Love the swipe gestures too. My desktop setup also requires to be able to overlap widgets.
Gotta admit the Sense Widgets are very pretty and somewhat useful.

I use Nova Prime, which I have grown to love, but I miss the Sense widgets. Sense is actually a decent launcher. The only reason I'm still using Nova is because I used it on my Skyrocket and was able to keep my desktop backup. If I ever took the time to actually recreate my folders, I may switch to Sense.

nova
I like sense, but I feel a little too bounded or restricted or something. Just doesnt feel like it is as robust as it should be. no landscape, no scrollable dock, gestures or eyecandy customizations in sense, which is surprising cause it feels so choppy and laggy on 4.0.

I'm running CleanROM developer edition so I mainly only need sense for the camera and messaging features. I prefer a clean asop look so I can theme it to whatever I'm feeling at the moment. I really have no use for all the social widgets.

Just got the Captivate

I just bought the captivate yesterday, What tweaks should I do and is it a must to root the phone to sideload apps? and what apps and widgets should I download, I remember some from my nexus one but Im hoping some of you can help me with great apps and games
First of all, CONGRATS on buying this sexy phone !
Ok I'd recommend you first check out the "Pimp my Captivate" thread that's stickied at the top, and download the pdf.
When you reach the step where you have to root your phone, don't.
Instead flash the Unleash the Beast rom/update
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751182
Then continue on with the guide as normal, with the exception that you don't have to root anymore, remove the att apps, or use a side load script since there's instruction how to enable it after flashing the Unleash the Beast.
i'm not much of a gamer but depending on how old you are, you might remember labyrinth. that is a pretty fun game to me. the samsung user interface (Touchwiz 3.0) to me was pretty neat, but Launcherpro is much much better. its much more customizable, and the fact that you can have 7 screens + 3 dockbars makes it near impossible for you to run out of room for shortcuts. some people will say that you will need to have an all black background to preserve your battery life, i disagree with it, as i am running live backgrounds like Galaxy without a problem. If youre willing to pay for any apps the first one that i recommend is Beautiful Widgets as it has tons and tons of skins for the weather and clock widget on your home screen.
I rooted mine as it was a simple process, and tried a couple of the lag fixes. if you are happy with the speed of your phone, then dont mess with any of those fixes imo.
I recommend setting up Pandora if you havent already, as well as iheartradio. and ive been using ringdroid to clip songs into ringtones as well.
my captivate lags sometimes, not as smooth as the nexus, will the lag fix help? for example when i put that live wallpaper with the leaves and the water that was also on the nexus, it lags alot when moving from one homescreen page to the next. Also I saw a really great wallpaper from the original galaxy with the water rippling, is there any way to get it on the captivate and also the avatar movie from the vibrant
also is there any way to stop the phone from vibrating with the swype and samsung keyboard?
I also Agree, beautiful widgets has a weather animation, and many skins.
I paired up the Droid Does skin, with the Droid X Live wallpaper

what launcher are u using with the droid x theme, adw or launcherpro, btw which one is better. I still havnt tryed adw, I had launcher pro on my n1
Launcherpro is where it's at, when you download it customize it and find the option to enable 3d app drawer- it's great!
You can find the Droid X Live Wallpaper here (many different colors)
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6952878&postcount=13
But for the DROID does clock/weather widget, you need to download or "find" beautiful widgets.
Like I said before though, flash the unleash the beast rom, it's makes the Captivate way faster, and your life easier.
So did anyone ever tell you how to get the avatar movie from the vibrant to work on the captivate? I have the file saved on my phone but can't get it to play.

The swype options are in settings/locale and text/swype ... Or you can hit the swype key on bottom left of the keyboard.

Ugh.. "/

I'm losing interest in my phone... anyone got ideas for cool new launcher or something to spark love back with my g2x
I can honestly say although this phone is amazing and fast
I miss htc yeah yeah crappy quality bad screens and sense but for some reason every day I debate on taking the mt4g back from my wife LOL
But this screen is too nice and much faster....

There are at least 6 launchers to choose from. Probably more. Take your pic.
1. ADW Launcher
2. Launcher Pro
3. Stock Launcher, lol.
4. Launcher 7
5. Go Launcher
6. Zeam Launcher
also the Regina Launcher..
out of the list, I've gone with Go Launcher as it's the most stable for me. ADW I tried several times but it keeps screwing up, notification bar goes missing, etc.. so I just dumped it altogether
SPB Mobile Shell, not my favorite but lots of eye candy.

I concur. Although SPB Shell is not my choice but surely a beautiful "creation". Lol
P.S. You can also try using the Sense clock widget on your main screen. I've have it setup where if I double tap on the "hour area" it launches the "Go weather app/widget" which is really cool. Also try different launchers thar give u an option to also customize your icons. For example:

[APP][LAUNCHER] QQ Launcher

I've been using ADW.EX for a long while and have grown accustomed to their features and for the most part loved the experience. However, I just say QQ Launcher on AndroidSpin and this.. for lack of a better term... "really put some flavor on my sh*t"
Check it out!

Don't let the fact that it's chinese fool you. It looks and acts like a pretty solid product.
What say ye?
Looks nice.... I might check it out... Might. Lol.
Infuse, infused...running gingerbread
It's worth a try. You can always go back :-D
Been using Go launcher but this seems to be some good competition, will check out tonight
Looks good but no English? Ah that'll be hard to use lol. Let me know when they translate it though.

Its similar to the miui launcher

the included widgets are cool. the theme is awesome. it takes a lot from touch wiz 4 or the Sony arc launcher and adds a very nice miui like theme. folders in the drawer and transition animations are nice. and its themeable. not bad
Wow its sweet

I like it. Competes with Go Launcher.
Either I missed it or it doesn't have many options for making it act how I want. I couldn't find swiping options or anything.
If I missed it, please point me in the right direction so I can give it a fair shake...
thanks
Nice launcher, well Polish but missing a few key features that Go launcher offers. Facebook calendar Widgets also custom user icons. Will keep an eye on it tho.

Nice launcher. Just needs more themes (it's completely newborn)
Installed. Satisfied.
Thanks for the tip
in ROM Infused 2.0.3 from our great gtg465x
I agree.. it definately needs some more themes and options.. but its not bad for a new product
My Phone Color Problem. Sorry My Bad English. All İcons and Backgrounds Color Problem.
I believe they re-themed certain icons, but I'm not sure.
I really like the MIUI-ish design of the switch shortcuts, but I'm not a fan of the list style of the app drawer. Can you customize the drawer, or is it the list style only?
Wow, I though this launcher was bad, but its amazing! It lags a little bit on the app screen, but that's probably because I need to restart my phone...
Sent from my 4.5" Super Phone.
Cyanogen Mod comes with ADW launcher, but I like this one better.
Is there any setting to get it as default launcher?
Once you install it and click the home button it should bring up a prompt to ask you which launcher you want to use, you can set is as default from there. or you can go into application settings and clear defaults on ADW

[APP][2.1+]DX Home- very good launcher for any device!

DX HomeVery good launcher from Chinese developers!
He has many themes, lock screens etc.
I use it on 4.0.4 and he work excellent! Try it!

Will be great when authors let users delete Baidu's search widget and optimize RAM usage. Until then I'll be using QQ launcher which is similiar but has less features.

Unfortunately is laggy for my X10
The 360 launcher lags on your x10 device but does not lags on my x10 mini pro
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
And 360 doesn't have scrollable widgets.
if u could you might want to try and fix the brightness, if u change it using the built on widget or one built into your slide down status bar that only changes the launcher thing.
its nbd but only real flaw i see
this launcher is a keeper
Possibly one of the best launchers but i dont like the icons.
Using themes icons are small. and why it says APPS in appdrawer
Came across this a while ago. I like most of the features, but the app launch transition irritates me - despite having the ability to customise page transitions and app drawer transitions, there's no launch transition option, so it's not quite my cup of tea yet.
It's the launcher from a very nice rom. DX OS. Available for quite a few phones. Also have other apps on market from the rom. Search for Tapas Mobile.
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk 2
Used DxHome for a few hours , 2 things i don't like about it , can't remove search widget from 1st screen & the home-screen transitions not very smooth (a bit laggy) on my SGS II i9100G !!
I appreciate the overall appearance of the home-screen & i also loved it's default icons !!
I used to have 3.0.4 and 3.0.9 versions on my samsung galaxy s i9000.
However 3.0.9 was the last version that ever worked well for me. Since this version all I get is very slow app drawer

[Q] Launcher?

Which launcher do you guys use on the One S?
I upgraded thinking Nova or Apex would be smooth, but the app drawers remain laggy.
The experience is poor really, on any ROM. Any other launchers out there that work better?
I use Apex. Why I prefer Apex than Nova ? I don't know really lol. They are alike a lot. Perhaps Apex is more light ...

AW: [Q] Launcher?
I prefer Nova Launcher. Allready used in in ICS with a (sometimes) laggy drawer. In JB its running very smooth without a single lag. I also tried Apex and I think its nearly the same but I like the Nova possibility to create own groups in drawer.
