Hey guys, I recently bought a Galaxy S2 about 2 weeks ago, and everything has been working fine, until I ran into a "problem" yesterday...
The screen seems to be "sticky". I cannot smoothly slide my finger over it. I have no screen protector atm. This applies for all my fingers, both hands. The really weird part about this though is that if I were to try sliding the screen with the back part of my hand, or my knuckles, it's perfectly smooth.
I have wiped it down with a microfiber cloth multiple times (I also lightly breathed on the screen to allow for some condensation before wiping it with the microfiber).
And so that nobody makes shroud comments about my "cleanliness", my hands are perfectly clean, I have washed them multiple times thinking that for some reason they could be dirty, and I have also tried putting rubbing lotion and baby powder on my hands, to no avail.
I am a general "clean-freak", so it can't be that my fingers are dirty...
What should I do? I have absolutely no idea what to do from here!
Are you running stock or a custom rom?
I ask because it could just be the rom. Also, it may have to do with the memory on the phone.
Now it is weird that its different with the back of your hand... do you have poor circulation? Just a thought

This is a completely physical "problem". I can actually feel it with my finger when I try sliding across the screen (I feel the resistance, and the "stickiness").
My circulation is perfect fyi.
But to answer your original question, everything is pure stock.
Just rub your finger with a cloth like your trouser or jeans will solve the problem

I actually tried that. But it didn't work at all.
I am honestly extremely confused though as to why this is happening at all....
Well, I have tried using eyeglass cleaner, to no avail. I sprayed some on the microfiber, rubbed it in circular motions on the screen, then dried with another microfiber. No results. I tried that 3 times. Then, I took a Q-Tip, dipped one end into the eyeglass cleanser (pretty much the same as rubbing alcohol), then ran it in circular motions across the screen, then rubbed and dried with a microfiber - still the same. I did this 2 times.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME! (sorry about the caps lock, I'm really confused and mad...)
Hey I have a solution that works for me for your exact problem. However, if your a clean freak this may or might not rest well with you. But whenever I find my screen gets to "sticky" for swype or any games etc that require a lot of swiping motions. I actually just use the natural oils on my face by either rubbing my forehead or nose really quickly with my pointer finger then rubbing my phone screen, preferably to a screen with a screen protector. My face isn't excessively oily or anything but the face has natural oils on it. Even when you wash it frequently. If you ever over do it the oils are pretty easy to just wipe off as well. It's a very quick and easy and natural solution whenever your screen is hard to swipe. Hope this helps.

I can't remember whether it (the SGS2) has one or not, but it sounds very similar to what happened when the oleophobic (fingerprint-resistant) coating rubbed off an old iPhone of mine. Resistance went through the roof, smudges very apparent etc.
Easiest solution is to just give it a solid clean with either denatured alcohol or a window cleaning solution (to get rid of the oils and greases - a cloth and saliva won't do) and whack a screen protector on over the top.
I find cheap eBay protectors are less resistant than some of the premium brands (Looking at you, Zagg - ugh), so a couple of bucks should fix this for you.

Hey guys I received my N1 today and tried to put on a BSE screen protector.
However....
It looks like this. Are those air bubbles that are supposed to go away or did I do something wrong? I followed instructions by spraying some water/soap mixture on adhesive side and then flattening it out with the squeegee. The adhesive side never touched the table or anything. It only touched my fingers which I also sprayed with the solution. Any Advice? :x

If I were you, I'd get a new one and have the dude at the store stick it on for me. In fact that's what I did, the guy did a good job. Sprinkling water / soap mixture doesn't sound very logical to me...
That definitely looks like you've used too much soap.

The trick is to use a few drops of soap liquid only. I Found out the hard way. The purpose of the soap is to act as a lubricant to help glide the plastic onto the screen into position.

after 2 weeks of using, my screen is super dirty now.......... i am looking for the most efficient way to clean it..... (wipe on my shirt doesnt clean it at all....) and i am constantly getting the rainbow effect on the screen........... anybody has a solution?
buy a good microfiber cloth
I use a "dust off" for all my electronics and that works wonders.
i wouldnt advise you to use your shirt though

Exactly! I use a microfiber cloth everyday and use LCD/Plasma cleaning spray when it gets real dirty.
Warning! Cleaning solutions used for LCD screens are not confirmed safe for your device!

This phone has an oleophobic coating on it, unlike LCD/Plasma TV's. Unless someone does a study on the effect of cleaning solutions on that coating, I wouldn't risk messing it up with a cleaner.
Here's how I clean my screen. You have a clean microfiber cloth, which is good. I start by going over the screen in circular motions, using medium pressure (I'm not a buff guy, so use lighter pressure if you are). Then i gently blow on the screen to very slightly fog it up, and immediately go over it again with circular motions. Switching between clockwise/anticlockwise helps. If any spots are left, I go over them with slightly harder pressure, but never in a scraping motion ... just circular buffing.
Note that the cloth used for cleaning needs to actually absorb the oils, so maybe yours isn't in such great shape and is just smearing the oils around (hence the rainbow effect).
Since there have been so many threads on this, someone should go out and make a tutorial video on cleaning your screen

I have had no problems wiping the screen the few times it has had a print or two on it...

Get a good microfiber cloth. I personally love Fossil's (the watch company). I use it for my glasses mostly.
Hold the phone with your left hand, cover it with the microfiber cloth, use the bottom of your palm on top of the screen, wipe like crazy in every direction for 2-3 seconds, you're done.
LOL. You can wipe it anyway you want, no particular way, just wipe. It's fine.

How often do you guys change your microfiber cloth? Mine's getting a bit grimy from constant use and dust. Is it even washable? I'm using one that came with my Ipod Touch.

Wash your microfiber in the washing machine with detergent only. Tumble them dry on low heat or no heat. OK, so today I threw my Incredible (AMOLED if it matters at all) into my backpack and some keys in there scratched it a little bit. The scratches are not too deep, and you can't feel them or anything, so I was hoping there might be a way to fix it. I looked around a little bit and saw that toothpaste can help for getting scratches out of things like CD's and such. Has anyone tried this on their phone? I don't think anything bad would happen, but I don't really know...
Also, I know that I should have bought a screen protector, so please don't remind me about that.
'Getting scratches out' sounds like a bit of a oxymoron. You don't have something IN your screen, a scratch is more like a bit of surface screen missing.
I can't see why toothpaste would harm the screen. Just don't get the phone wet, turn it off, clean up afterwards, etc.
Really can't see how it would help either...
I have never heard of using toothpaste to fix scratches, but since the scratches are not to deep I try this product that has done wonders it is called apple sauce and was originally made to fix iPod scratches. Look it up on amazon.

Yes! It works well, rub it in tiny little circles starting in the center of the screen and working your way out. BUT BE CAREFUL. don't push hard ar all, and don't do the same part more than 2 or 3 little "circles" or you may destroy the screen. if you do it right though, it should work fine.

What do you mean "destroy the screen"? How easily can I accidentally do this? I don't want it to get worse!
They say you can do it on CD's it acts like a polish. I think it all depends on the surface of the screen and what kind of metirial it is made up of.

Mustard works better than toothpaste. It turns into glass when you use it to remove scratches on your phones screen. If you rub it on your face every night before going to bed you'll grow a proper manly beard too. Really, there's no limit to the things you can do with mustard with it's amazing properties.*

Nice! I tried the mustard, and it looks like it worked! My screen looks brand new! Also, I think I can already see stubble after just one night!!! The only problem is now my pillow is stained yellow...
Anyways, I thought that the toothpaste helped because of the slight abrasiveness of it...?
There are products here in the UK made under the Duraglit brand as Brasso and Silvo. These are metal polishes, but are also available as a cotton wad roll impregnated with the stuff. I do not know if they are sold in the USA, but there may be something similar from US manufacturers. As their name suggests they are made to clean and polish brassware and silverware.
It is a very fine abrasive suspension, but it also contains ammonia to remove any tarnish, and white spirit to act as a lubricant. They are quite good at removing scratches from watch glasses etc., by gently cutting into the surface, down to the level of the scratch.
On touch screen devices, the touch screen sensitive layer lives above the screen glass, but under a plastic protective layer. It will be this top layer that you have scratched. The product above or something similar may work, but check that the white spirit does not attack the protective plastic layer.
As mentioned above small, circular movements, a little at a time may work. If you cut through the protective layer, you are in trouble.

Nice to see people getting into the spirit of things Anyway, i hope you find a solution that works. I personally might be tempted to ask the manufacturer to replace the digitizer, as long as the cost wasn't too prohibitive. I tried changing one myself on an old phone and it didn't work out too well
Am not sure about what kind of display cover your phone has. But, if it's capacitive or IR and the top layer is glass, take it to the local wrist-watch merchant/repair center and they could fix it for you using H2SO4 and some filler.
Alternatively, you can have the top layer of the touch panel replaced.
And, next time, do use a screen protector. =D

I am not sure if toothpaste would help the screen scratches, its not a tooth scratch.. LMAO
Is it true that tooth paste works like sand paper on glass, does that mean that it contain something harder than glass? I don't have scratch just want to remove paint between my screen protector. Want to know if tooth paste actually micro scratch the glass.
The problem is interesting and has several characteristics.
First: First, there seems to be an oily surface on my sensation that persists even after cleaning it.
Second: The surface of the screen has formed an odd shape that is containing this oily surface. For example, the oily surface is in a oval shape, and outside of that oval shape it seems as though the oleophobic coating is still there which prevents it from getting dirty; it strangely acts as a barrier which keeps the oil within the oval.
After battling with this problem, I decided to go on a hunt on figuring out any remedy to the problem. I realized that the problem might be because the oleophobic coating has worn away. Or, something far more probable and unfortunate is that the windex that my brother used on both of our sensations to clean the screen a while ago might have caused some chemical reaction in causing this.
I decided to clean the screen with alcohol pads, eye glass cleaner, and even went on to use Rain X to fix it. All of these solutions lasted a day, and then the oval oily spot would come back.
It seems as though the screen has turned into an oil magnet where wiping it away won't do anything...at all. It's as though its trapped there until the use of alcohol pads or glass cleaner is applied with a micro fiber cloth. But again, after some use it just gets dirty again.
I finally figured out my cheapest solution would be to clean it with eye glass cleaner and apply a screen protector.
My concerns in buying a screen protector is that I need it to be clear without pixelating the screen (like Zagg) all while being able to use Swype effectively. any suggestions?

The ammonia in the Windex was the most likely culprit in causing this problem. Unfortunately, once used on a screen with oleophobic coating there might be irreparable harm. The reason for this is because the glass has been bonded with the oleophobic coating and the ammonia works to destroy the finish and the polymers on the screen.
I am sorry that I can't offer you an suggestions on what screen protector to use, but there seems to be a thread indicating the ultra thin and, apparently ultra cheap, lcd screens are fine to use with this.

Since last week I've suddenly been plagued by a filthy layer of grease accross the screen of my phone. It covers about 80% of the screen surface with just a few areas towards the edges where it doesn't reach.
No matter how many times I think I've wiped it off, as soon as I begin touching the phone again, it quickly reappears. It has a somewhat cloudy / misty appearance with a tendency to accentuate normal fingerprint and grease marks ten fold compared to previous. It looks disgusting and is seriously spoiling my enjoyment of the phone.
It began towards the end of our recent holiday. I've got two guesses as to what may have caused it. The first possibility is having immediately touched the screen with dirty hands after eating a KFC chicken meal (very greasy). The other is a somewhat vague recollection of accidentally slobbering a drop of toothpaste onto it late one evening, which if I'm correct may have damaged the materials within the screen?
I've become very frustrated with the way it looks and am beginning to contemplate some drastic measures in attempt to clean it.
I'm considering using isopropyl alcohol. I know a lot of people warn against it but on the whole the evidence I've found suggests many have used it previously without encountering any noticeable problems. Even on modern smartphones with digitisers like ours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as its driving me crazy seeing my phone like this and a simple dry micro fibre cloth has proved insufficient to clear it permanently.
Id love to help but never faced such a situation usually when i eat some mcdonalds and touch the screen i can notice the grease and all that but after i use a wiping cloth and it does the job

Yeah I'm starting to think that the toothpaste theory is how it actually happened. It's resembling a similar appearance to what my old Nokia 5800 went like after I naively attempted to remove a scratch from it's screen using toothpaste. Very murky and almost powdery looking dirt that refused to go away.
It's as though the grease is 'locked in' to the screen. I can wipe the screen and temporarily everything appears back to normal again. That is until a few minutes into using it once more that it goes back to looking like someone has thrown it into the chip pan!

Maybe the screen needs to be replaced i hope not but honestly i think this phone is getting old enough time to use a upgrade perhaps..

i've used rubbing alcohol and it's worked fine. You can try peroxide i think ( i haven't tried peroxide...)
usually a microfiber cloth does the trick. Make sure your fingers are clean when you use it again, your hands have a lot of oil on them...
