[ROM]Cdma Desire Froyo Sense 2.0 xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2 [8/20/11] - Desire Android Development

I meant to post this earlier but feel asleep. I would like to thank the team here. Mainly loph for getting me to do it. Any way to the caution/screenshots.
Caution this rom uses a new format unlike any other rom. Which means it requires a ext partition. If you do not have one it will not boot and/or install. To see how to do one read the install section.

I've been asked of the performance which can be seen by clicking show
Short video of features and look. No it doesn't lag that bad blame it on the not so good desire gpu:
Known Issues:
Mms needs put in manually use apn manager or apn restore from the market. For carriers that has issues with uscc sense base I may need to release packs to fix it.
Mms has a small limit (Fixed in Rc2)
There is a force close about some sound blah blah on boot. (Fixed in Rc2)
Calling voicemail or anything that requires dialing numbers using the touch pad doesn't work. You need change audible touch tones to long under settings.
Verizon branding in dialer. (Fixed in Rc2)
I replaced the old market with the newest. It seems to cause issues for some people. I even got it. You may get a fc or where downloads say paused/won't download. This seems to happen on 3g though may happen on wifi. If it does go to manage applications clearing data for the market & market updater. Reboot where it should be fine.
Known Working:
Apps2sd+ No flashing zip required.
Cmtd with no cache issue.
Usb mounting of sd-card (Checked windows and linux)
Wireless Tethering (Checked windows and linux)
3g/data
Camer/Video Camera
Htcsense.com
Skins
Ui sounds
Music/Video
Gps
Wifi
Sms/Mms
Syncing with gmail, etc...
Things Removed:
Mainly just the verizon apps
What is Done/Added:
Dodexed to allow themeing
Optipnd'd almost the whole rom
Prerooted
Init.d support
Busybox
Nano
Bash
Apps people may not use or updates moved to data (AdobFlashplayer, AdobeReader, Facebook, OiFileManager, Gmail, Maps, Myspace, QuickOffice, Street, YourNavigator and Youtube)
Darktremors apps2sd+ with dalvik to sd-ext on boot disabled
Able to be undervolted now (Uses almost the exact voltages of my vork kernel)
More govenors now (PowerSave & Interactive)
Default scheduler changed to Cfq
Perflock on boot disabled
ZipAlign on boot (First boot will be sort of slow as it checks and zipaligns apk's. From then on it remembers what ones were done and only zip aligns ones that have been installed)
Screenstate scaling of cpu to save battery life
Build prop tweaks to conserve battery and increase speed
Ram optimizations to futher more conserve battery and increase speed (Do not run a task killer it will only mess it up. Multitasking should greatly be increased.)
All system apps moved to ext partition (This allows of live wallpapers and wallpapers to be kept with out hurting for space)
Some other things were also moved to ext. For a explanation on why this was done. Check the why dalvik was left internal with no data2sd.
Market cache for downloads mounted to ram upon downloading and installing. Once installed is is automatically deleted. Which means the only sense rom with 100% working cmtd.
Cmtd setup and fully working.
Before I forget reboot options (Reboot, Reboot to recovery & a few more)
Probably forgetting some stuff also. Once I remember I will update.
Why the rom was done like it was with no data2sd or dalvik moved:
Ok the rom was done like it was for a few reasons. One was for increased memory. Two was for speed. Three was for no dead sd cards. Followed by 4 was to help battery life. With that said we go to data2sd. Data2sd works by moving the data partition to a a sd-ext partition. There is a few different versions. Real data2sd kills cards quick due to reads and writes. Kali's data2sd is a knock off of darktremors apps2sd+. It moves the data/app and data/app-private to sdext. Same thing as darktremors apps2sd+. Darktremor's apps2sd packs more features from zip align, memory tweaking and other things. This should not cause lag like claimed. What will is enabling dalvik-cache to ext. Kali's doesn't support this. So kali's data2sd or darktremors apps2sd+ with out dalvik moved will not be that hard on a card at all.
Now with dalvik moved in darktremor's it causes lag and major read and writes to the sd card. Due to it moves system dalvik. Anytime you open a app or do something it reads and writes to the sd card. This causes battery drain and bottlenecks also. So what I did was a better alternative, since dalvik moved frees up space but causes lag. I left dalvik internal, moving system apps and a few other things to ext partitions. Then creating blind mounts. This allowed me not to remove anything like before or enable dalvik. Yet give the same free space 240mb to be exact. So you get the speed and space. Best of both worlds right?
The other thing is with anything sd-ext. Sd cards have a number of limited reads and writes. Some fail sooner and later. It just depends on the card. With that said the process done is very easy on the sd card.
Files to download:
Caution do not download via the android browser. You will get a 5kb file.
xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2: Click Here
Install instructions:
1. You need to have cwm 3 or above to install this. For working recoverys that will work with this rom check here Once you have that proceed.
2. Follow this step if you don't have a ext partition setup (If previously using apps2sd or data2sd you should have one. So please skip to step 3.)
First you need to back up your card sd card. This means mount your sd card on your computer, creating a folder. Then copying the contents of the sd card to the folder. Once this is done reboot phone into recovery. Once you do that go to advanced>partition sd-card. Pick you sizes for your partitions. I use 1024m/0m. Once that is done reboot your phone.
3. So once booted back into your rom. Copy the files you backup back over. The open the xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2.zip. Extract the contents to the root of the card. This means the sleeksense folder should be in the main directory. Along with the mtdpart text file in the root. If you had one before please replace it. Once done reboot to recovery again.
4. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC1>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2-recovery. Once installed go to Advanced>Reboot Recovery. Once recovery reboots it would be a good idea to do wipe data/factory reset. After the wipe is complete proceed below.
5. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC1>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2. Don't freak on the long install time sense hd is long. If you get no error set and wait. Once it installs and prompts you to reboot. Do reboot system now with in recovery. Now it will take a bit to boot the first time. First boot will be a little bit it will set on the white and green htc screen. Around 3 mins or so. You will then see the htc boot animation where it will also set. Allow 10-15 mins to first boot (After first boot it will not be as long booting) Now if 15mins have passed and you still aren't in the ui. Then redo the above steps for flashing the rom. No need to reformat the card. Just make sure you do a full wipe.
6. First boot will be a little bit it will set on the white and green htc screen. Around 3 mins or so. You will then see the htc boot animation where it will also set. If it booted in the ui. Follow the setup wizard and wait for sense to load.
7. When you call your voice mail or a number that use button presses to select menu's. It will not work. So to fix it go to Menu > Settings > Sound > Feedback > Audible touch tones. Change it from short to long.
For any problems you encounter, have a question or anything else. Please post them at the following link: Click Here or post in the thread here. Be warned it may take me a few days to check it.
Changlog:
Rc-1 First release with minor issues.
Rc-2 Fixed Verizon branding, force closes, small mms sizes, cmtd, added new market and some other things I may be forgetting.
Credits:
Darktremor for his apps2sd
The maker of apktool
Incubus26jc for the verizon base
Teppic74 for the original modules/scripts used. Though modded for our stock sense kernel.
I am sure I am probably forgetting someone so if I am then sorry and I will add you.

running it now. great job

Thanks Once I get the later miui ported and the merge port fixed. I will tweak a bit. Then fix the minor issues.

I thank you for that. But it doesn't need a mirror I host it myself. Where I am honestly unsure why you put it on a mirror. Been nice if it would have been asked if it were needed.

I had a little bug this morning where I couldn't press any of the buttons in the drawer. I had to flip around the screens for a while and came back and they worked. I've noticed there's a little lag in the ROM as a whole, like the ROM is too heavy for the CPU or something. It's not major, just a little annoying. Also, I can't seem to pull up the skins browser in HTC Hub. I can use everything else (Scenes, Ringtones, etc) but not skins. Of course it's the only one I actually wanted to use
Other than that, fantastic work as always.

Reports from the other dev's that is trying to help me get 3.0 on the cdma desire along with 3.0 on the merge is that the the skin part of htc is buggy and does the same on phones that have come with it. Along with in the ports.
Even then that would be on the bottom of the list to even fix. As for the lag is it doing it worse as it gets lower on battery by chance? As for it being to much for the cpu 2.0 is more optimized than 1.0. With that said it doesn't lag near as bad and more snappy on our phones.
This was also reported on the merge froyo port. I just glanced at your post and seen you wanted to use the htc skins. Where I am not sure right off what all is on it for skins. But skins found that is for 2.0 should work fine.
Edit: As for your odd issue I am unsure. You are the first to report this. I have had a report of lagging in vid's from 3 people I think it is. Report of the g-sensor not working that a reflash fixed. Then the last was signal bouncing around.
As for all the issues the girls desire has been on this since I ported it cept to do the port of miui. Which I restored the backup of. No issues that I have got or heard about. Trust me I would hear about it The lag in vids I am not sure if she has watched any and I haven't checked. So that would be the only one I can't confirm.

I had to flash back to my stock ROM, this one was just being too weird. Usually around 7:30 pm or so, the data and GPS will just flat out stop working and I have to reboot to get it back. I didn't try toggling data, but it's a hurdle I'm not willing to jump right now. I really wish this worked out, I liked the ROM otherwise.

You could have tried a reinstall or a prl update. But I know that is not the case with the rom as the girls has been running this since I ported it. Where data and gps has worked in the rom since I loaded it.
You also aren't the only one running it where the others the only issue found now is lag playing videos.

link to download unless expired? You can reupload

Been waiting for A Rom like this for months on CDMA!! Thank you Sir!
Only issue I have come across other then a Force close here and there is the Laggy Video
when streaming, Netflix, HulU, Youtube. Videos i have on my sd card work fine! THANX AGAIN FOR YOUR EFFORTS !

Download link was just down due to moving files around. It should be up now I think. I will have to check if the right link is there.
As for the lag video I get it on recorded vid's by the stock cam. Known issue and when I get to it I will try to fix it. Right now I have a few things on my plate till I get caught up.

Are you going to be updating this? Laggy video gets annoying

I don't think this rom will be updated, but both 2fast and coolexe are working on Gingerbread Sense 2.1 roms for the CDMA Desire... you might want to hold out for that.

[Roms/Morphs] Soulife's quiet corner

Okay, this is the place where all my updates will be taking place. The forum has become somewhat of a "cluster-f*ck" of stuff, so instead of posting a new thread every time I want to share something I'm just gonna post it here. Eventually, I'll have this thread organized enough to hold any builds I'm playing with, along with any resources I might wanna share. (I've been playing with Metamorph lately, and I'm gonna start posting any "morphs" I make too. To put it simply this is a pretty cool tool for patching apks/jars/zips on the fly. Hats off to its' creators.)
While I'm setting the foundation for this thread it's gonna look a little messy at first. But once my posts come together, and as i update over time, It will get better organized and be cleanly laid out. So long as my time permits.
I'm gonna post as i work, so ill start with this...
I got a little bored with the same old rogers cupcake I've been running for ages, so since there still hasn't been a "Rogers Donut release" i started playing with "Google's Donut release". I got a little obsessed with speed in this one. IMHO its the perfect blend of speed and functionality, and I'm not done yet. Anyone interested can check it out at the link below.

DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER APPS2SD APPLICATIONS ON THIS BUILD. YOU WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM. THEY ARE NOT NECESSARY BECAUSE THIS ROM WILL DO A2SD AUTOMATICALLY AND BETTER!
General Info
Built with Cyanogen's kernel and ramdisk (4.2.4)
(I modified his a2sd script and ramdisk to be more suited for this build, also when using A2SD dalvik-cache stays on internal storage and not on sdcard)
10MB kernel hack
UNIVERSAL! Runs on both Dream and Magic 32B
Now identifies itself as either T-Mobile G1 or myTouch
Enhanced ramdisk which uses optimal mount options and smart startup
Includes E2FSProgs for checking and converting Ext filesystems
Apps2SD is automatic! All you need is a second partition (ext).
Supports ext2/ext3/ext4 for Apps2SD
Clean filesystem shutdown at poweroff/reboot, and fsck at boot (no FS corruption!)
Highly optimized kernel with many extra modules
Maximum CPU scaling frequency set to 528MHz with latency tweaks
Runs /system/sd/userinit.sh after A2SD setup and before starting the runtime for user scripts
Terminal Tools
Added Cyanogen's sexy black terminal
Added Busybox (version 1.14.2)
Added rwsystem and rosystem in bin (easily remount system as read/write or read only)
Added powertop, htop, nano, e2fsck tools, parted, zip, zipalign, telnetd, to xbin
Added Metamorph! (it is called metamorph in this build, not mm.sh! to invoke use "metamorph" command!)
Added man(ual) pages to bin (type "man" in terminal for detailed help on specific terminal commands
Added fix_permissions in bin (its called "fixperm" in this build) (version 1.31)
Added "bart" in bin (Backup and restore tool, version 1.0.1)
Added "usb-tether" to bin to easily start/stop usb tethering via terminal
Removed some "unused" binaries from build source.
Compcache 0.6 (Not enabled by default since this build "flys" without it. Type "compcache start" from terminal as SU to activate, "compcache stop" to deactivate)
I know this isn't a terminal tool, but you control it through terminal
Applications
Newest Google Maps app with turn by turn navigation
Added Browser enhancements from loccy (version 1.5)
Added MMS enhancements from rgv151 (for donut)
Added Phone app enhancements by cytown (version 21)
Added Contact list photos patch from Geesun
Added Wired tether to control usb tethering (version 1)
Added YouTube from eclair with working My Account
Added Superuser from ChainsDD/Zinx
Added Work Email for Exchange support
Added java support (for jad/jar files. you know for apps and games that run on "non" smart phones)
Added HTC IME virtual keyboard
Added spareparts
Added voice search
Other stuff
Meltus sound mod (generation 7, version 2, revision 2)
Added allow protected downloads
Added haykuro's apn list with updated apns
Added fallback font for more languages
Added Libc memcpy optimizations from code aurora
Removed all but needed ringtones, alarms, notifications.
To Do
"optimize" pngs and jpgs
recompress apks
(As a rule of thumb i try to make my builds fit on the standard spl size released on the dream/g1 [which is approx 69000k, right now this build sit at approx 72000k. This is only a rule of thumb since almost everyone has haykuro's spl or an spl that has more than 6900k.] But as a disclaimer i feel inclined to inform you than you must have the "Danger" spl, rooted rogers, mytouch, or a magic/sapphire32b device to run this build. I can remove this advisory once I recompress the apks and all the images.)
Change log (build history)
so where's my update?
so where's my update?

Glad to see your moving forward here soul, thanks for all the great work.

its all in good humor. real life grabbed be for a few hours so i got side tracked. but your right, it was fair game. just bustin stones...
BTW... to the mod that changed my tags... I'm flattered.
I agree with you soul. The forums are really cluttered up. Why have 6 diferrent threads for maps with navigation. That pisses my off when I just keep seeing them. But can't wait to tryout your new work. You always done a good job
Looks like a pretty complete rom. I'm downloading now.
Easily the fastest rom around. I feel it's faster than Dwang's (which to me was slow in the first place)
Good job.
Coming from dwang 1.13. Flashed, wiped, flashed again....and after ANDROID it boots to a black screen. I can boot without my SD card, but if I insert it and shut down again it hangs again with black screen. Card has FAT (or FAT32, can't remember), ext3, and swap and works fine with all other A2SD roms.....
Sorry, soulife, I'll keep this to PM in the interest of keeping this thread on track.
Screen Shots?
wow
this is great... everything i've ever wanted. perfect

Try format your ext partition, there may be files in there conflicting with this rom, or check with parted to make sure you do have ext partition, I had similar problem last month when my ext vanished completely
Nice rom as always...I have one problem..I used metamorph in terminal and it told me to place a .zip in a folder blah...I already had it set up..I had to use the old method and it automatically read my .zip in the folder...what can I do so I don't have to do it the long way anymore do I have to rename something? Its a small very small issue I was just curious..thanks again

[ROM] 6/29/10 | Fresh Evo 0.5.3 | Outdated -- look for Fresh Evo 1.0.1

NOTE: This is old and has been replaced by Fresh Evo 1.0.1. I decided to start a new thread because this one was just too huge.

Geek For Me is proud to release:
Fresh Evo 0.5.3 for your Sprint Evo 4g
NOTE: Fresh Evo now assumes that you have NAND unlocked (part 2 of rooting). This means you are fully rooted and have write access to /system/ even when you are booted up. If you have not unlocked NAND protection then you should do so before flashing this rom!
This release was delayed for way too long due to various things out of my control (school, work, other projects, and a crashed hdd last weekend) so I'm happy to finally get it out!
I have been getting asked a lot when I'll integrate the new OTA update. I don't plan on including it until an RUU for it leaks out because it's a much better way to get files than to copy off patched ones. With that said Sprint pulled the update anyways due to it bricking people's phones. Haha. So just be patient and I'll update once it's out. Here's an analogy for you. You install Windows on a computer and then do all the windows updates. You then hunt down the random files that have changed and pull them off that computer, and just copy them over to another computer that hasn't had windows updates done, in an attempt to update it. While that may end up working, it is not nearly as clean as just getting an updated copy of windows that already has the updates on it and reinstalling it. THAT is why I don't plan on putting the OTA in until I have an RUU for it.
Do a data wipe! This version 100% requires one, even if you are coming from Fresh Evo 0.x. This should however be the last wipe required! It has also been reported that Clockwork Recovery is not wiping sd:ext properly. So if you do a data wipe (data, dalvik, cache, and sd:ext) and are still getting FC's or boot loops then you need to flash Amon's recovery and use it instead. In order to flash this rom you need to be rooted (unrevoked method doesn't count as root) to flash this. How To: Root Your Sprint Evo with NAND unlocked. Always make a nandroid backup, I can't be held responsible if something breaks, etc, etc.
Expect 1 loop at the very first boot! This is a side effect of the fixed vanilla lock. The very first time you boot up the phone it will load the lockscreen and then boot loop one time and then come up.
If it continues to loop then go here.
Go here to see all reported bugs: http://link.geekfor.me/freshevobugs -- if you are having a problem then check that page first, and read these release notes in their entirety!
Base: RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6
Changes from 0.3 to 0.5.3 (0.4 never made it to an official release):
Added Fresh Updater! Check the How To for information on setting it up and using it. This project has been on the back burner for months, and I'm happy to finally have brought it back and finished it up. Thanks to cyanogen and firefart as it's based on CMUpdater. It is built off of R657 which is the newest commit.
270 degree auto-rotation (you can turn the phone to the right or the left for landscape) -- Thanks to Optedoblivion for pointing me in the right direction
Fully fixed vanilla lock screen -- see screen shots. Use Fresh Updater to grab one of the vanilla patches to enable it. HTC's lock is enabled by default.
Landscape rosie (disabled by default!) -- see screen shots to see the issues with this. It is functional however it is definitely a hack. You will see some issues with using it. It doesn't look pretty, but it does work! Thanks to jschisurf for pointing me in the right direction on this one. NOTE: I have landscape rosie disabled by default! If you want to try it out then grab one of the patches in Fresh Updater to enable it. See the Fresh Updater How To for help with that.
Landscape settings.apk -- no problems here. Works fine.
12 new Rosie widgets. 7 that are available for our phone and 5 that aren't.
Profiles, ringtone, battery, call mom, coin flip, daily challenge, dice, notes, quick record, tasks, tip calculator, and today in history.
These are made by HTC and will only work in Rosie.
802.11N enabled (2.4 ghz only, not 5ghz) -- thanks to chuckhriczko!
Another brand new boot screen! -- thanks to wrx4memp
Updated DarkTremor apps2sd to 2.7 version 3 version 2. Version 3 was moving dalvik-cache to the sdcard even though it was set to not do so. Will upgrade to v3 when it's fixed. Thanks to tkirton!
Fixed wifi tether force close (still using the newest 2.0.5 pre 2)
Stock files have been resigned. This should prevent the need for any future wipes (not counting any major software changes by HTC/Sprint).
Updated launcher pro to 0.6.3
Updated google maps to 4.3.0
Updated estrongs file explorer to 1.4.2.2
Updated rom manager to 2.0.0.2 -- Note as mentioned above that clockwork recovery is currently having issues wiping sd:ext. So if you are having trouble with bootloops or FC's after flashing this rom then you need to use Amon's recovery instead. Additionally because of Fresh Updater, rom manager may not be needed anymore. VOTE BELOW on if you want me to continue including rom manager or not.
I have still chosen to NOT include adless browsing in my rom. I used adless browsing in all of my Hero Android 1.5 roms because it actually blocked ads from the browser. In Android 2.1 this functionality stopped working so I stopped including it. It was pointed out to me that while it doesn't block them in the browser, it does block them in apps (background data). The reason I am choosing to not include this is because as a developer myself, I feel that the authors deserve to get paid for what they do if you want to use their app. If you are choosing to use their free ad-driven application then I don't want to contribute to people blocking those ads and preventing the dev from getting paid.
Fresh Evo Features:
All APK's have been png optimized and zipalign'd
png optimize goes through every APK and losslessly compresses the png (picture) files without causing any type of visual change. This provides a smaller apk file size that loads faster. Each APK has then been zipalign'd. From Android's developer page: zipalign is an archive alignment tool that provides important optimization to Android application (.apk) files. The purpose is to ensure that all uncompressed data starts with a particular alignment relative to the start of the file. Specifically, it causes all uncompressed data within the .apk, such as images or raw files, to be aligned on 4-byte boundaries. This allows all portions to be accessed directly with mmap() even if they contain binary data with alignment restrictions. The benefit is a reduction in the amount of RAM consumed when running the application.
While this does free up space on /system/ (as seen below) it is not done to make free space considering we have more than enough. It is done purely for a performance gain. Every day use of the phone will go smoother and stock applications will respond faster. The reason this works is because it has reduced the application file size as much as 50%, so they load in to memory faster and run smoother.
Additionally all applications in /data/ (even ones you downloaded) will be zipalign'd on boot if they need to be.
Not every apk takes png optimization + zip align well. I've done it on enough roms that I think I know which ones cause issues now, but if you are getting FC's on any apps (I can't test them all) then let me know and I'll get it resolved. Thanks!
Apps2sd enabled! Using Darktremor by tkirton.
Apps2sd takes all applications from /data/app and /data/app-private and moves them to a partition on your sdcard. It was originally created for phones that didn't enough enough space on /data/ to store a large number of applications. This has mostly been resolved on the Evo because we have over 400mb of space allocated to /data/. However for some people this isn't enough. Additionally if your apps are stored on your sdcard then you can do a data wipe and they will still be there (albeit settings will be lost, but you won't need to reinstall them).
You do not have to use apps2sd if you don't want to use it. If you just don't format your sdcard with an ext partition (leave it all as fat32 like it is from the factory) then apps2sd will stay turned off.

Battery optimizations
The stock mms.apk was possibly causing a wake lock. I have swapped it for a different one while I do some testing.
Raised VM kernel dirty page writeback frequency to 15 seconds. This wakes the phone up less often for background VM activity. Every single application in Android is technically running in a VM (virtual machine) so that's why this helps (as recommended by lesswatts.org).
Compcache 0.6.2 / Ramzswap enabled -- Thanks to toastcfh for compiling the modules! Compcache creates a RAM based block device (named ramzswap) which acts as swap disk. Pages swapped to this disk are compressed and stored in memory itself. Compressing pages and keeping them in RAM virtually increases its capacity. This allows more applications to fit in given amount of memory. This will only kick in when the stock memory (which the Evo has plenty of) gets low.
I have tuned the default to be 100mb ramzswap size with 40% swappiness
You can check compcache's use by opening an adb shell and typing: rzscontrol /dev/block/ramzswap0 --stats
ES File Explorer
ROM Manager -- Fresh Evo does show up as an available download in the free version of ROM Manager, so you can use it to update Fresh Evo right through your phone if you want.
Launcher Pro
Wifi Tether (free 3g and 4g wireless tethering)
Qik
Facebook moved to /data/ so that it can be uninstalled
Custom boot screen thanks to wrx4memp!
Added PowerTOP 1.11. From LessWatts.org: Programs can make your [phone] use more power. PowerTOP is a Linux tool that helps you find those programs that are misbehaving while your [phone] is idle. -- Compiled by cyanogen.
To run PowerTOP just open an adb shell and type: "powertop -d". It will scan for 15 seconds and then print out a report.
The first section will show you what % of time your phone spent running at what Mhz. In the screen shot above my phone was asleep so it was at 245Mhz the whole time.
The next section shows wakeups-from-idle per second. 50-80 would be normal. If you are in that range then you don't have a problem.
The next list is the top causes for wakeups. Compare your list to mine (I only showed the top 3).
All the way at the bottom it will have optimizations that can be made to lower power use. These changes can not be made to the rom itself, they must be made to the kernel. While other roms claim they made changes to the kernel, if they are using the stock kernel (if they aren't over-clockable then they are using the stock kernel) then they didn't. While there is a kernel source available to us, I have chosen to continue using the stock kernel until our official source is released by HTC for stability reasons.
I have chosen to NOT include adless browsing in my rom.

Hahahaha... I've been dying to say that!!!
Great to see you here flipz!
The beta version was running fine for me but I am excited to see the public version released.
For anyone not familiar with flipzmode's work, just flash this ROM and you'll be a fan!
omg I SO wish my Evo's battery isn't dead right now.
Awesome stuff. Was a huge fan of the hero roms. Now on to bigger and better things
The rom manager wouldn't let me flash. It didn't force close, it just said failed. To fix, I changed the setting in the very bottom panel to an older version, then changed back to the current one and it worked fine.
Flipz,
I love the idea with moving some of them to /data/app... which got me thinking... why not move almost everything there? That way everyone can uninstall whatever they don't like... or at least moving everything you can, over there to allow everything to still work.
Hey Flipz... I noticed that the Hero kitchen worked to push some of the .apk's back to the Evo. But some return an error..and fail.
For example the HTCFMRadio apk;
Can u clarify, when u say: adb shell mount /sdcardadb shell mount /systemadb shellcp /sdcard/fresh-removed-apks/WHATEVERAPP.apk /system/app
Like would "adb shell mount /sdcardadb shell mount /systemadb shellcp /sdcard/fresh-removed-apks/WHATEVERAPP.apk /system/app be all one command line? Or where should that be broken up at? I tried doing adb shell/mount /sdcard and it said "Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory..

[ROM] 7/15/10 | Fresh Evo 1.0.1 | 1.47 base + apps2sd + pngopt + usual fresh goodies

I started a new thread for this release because the other one was just too huge. I also want to apologize for how long this release took. Life is crazy.
Geek For Me is proud to release:
Fresh Evo 1.0.1 for your Sprint Evo 4g
NOTE: Fresh Evo now assumes that you have NAND unlocked (part 2 of rooting). This means you are fully rooted and have write access to /system/ even when you are booted up. If you have not unlocked NAND protection then you should do so before flashing this rom!
If you are coming from Fresh Evo 0.5.3 then just as I promised, no wipe is required. However if you are having problems then of course... wipe.
If you are coming from ANY other rom: do a data wipe! This version 100% requires one.
If it continues to loop then see above.
Go here to see all reported bugs: http://link.geekfor.me/freshevobugs -- if you are having a problem then check that page first, and read these release notes in their entirety!
Base: RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1 -- NEW!
Changes from 0.5.3 to 1.0.1:
Built off of the new 1.47.651.1 base!
Updated apps2sd to DarkTremor 2.7.5-pf4a
Updated Fresh Updater to 1.2
Mostly just visual changes. Turning the "themes" tab in to patches + themes + tweaks tab. More to come on that.
Make sure to Check the How To to setup and use Fresh Updater if you haven't before.
Added back FriendStream and Peep
For the beta versions of 1.0.x I had removed them, but I just found that too many people were having issues related to them not being there, so I've put them back in.
Made new boot.img containing the newest HTC kernel (789bf291)
Updated boot screen thanks to wrx4memp -- the "O" was made solid. While it wasn't wrong in the first place and was the font he used, we agreed it would be better to just make it solid.
Updated Launcher Pro to 0.6.7.2
Updated Rom Manager to 2.0.0.5
Updated Qik to 0.03.54
Check the download links below for an updated radio and wimax image.
If you are currently having problems with 4g then check the wimax.img download page below for links to help. If your 4g worked fine on Fresh 0.5.3 and then stopped working, make sure you are using the newest wimax.img and radio.img, and then do a full wipe and re-flash the rom.

Standard Fresh Evo Features:
Fresh Updater! Check the How To for information on setting it up and using it.
Wifi tether (free wireless 3g/4g tether)
Stock files have been resigned. This should prevent the need for any future wipes (not counting any major software changes by HTC/Sprint).

You must use the new WiMax radio with this rom. First flash the rom, and then the new WiMax radio. Read the release notes with the radio. This will NOT fix your phone if you are having problems with 4g. If you have been a Fresh user all along and haven't flashed any radios and stuff that weren't from me then this will work perfectly for you. If you do have any issues then just do a full data wipe and then reflash the rom. But if your 4g is already broken then follow the link in the release notes for the WiMax radio to get that fixed.

For us noobs, how do we reload binaries? Getting fc issue too.
Also, I thought Peep was removed by default (again, I could be mistaken).
Just want to clarify one thing. Do we need to wipe the device if upgrading from Fresh 0.5.3?
In the release notes there you say you have to wipe first, which I did, and stated you wouldn't have to wipe again. Now this has the exact same statement in it. Just want to make sure I do the right thing.
Oh yeah, great ROMs. This is my first Android phone and you make it so much better.

[GUIDE] Installing Dexter's Froyo - Video Tutorial

Okay folks,
As promised, I have taken the time to create a video outlining the steps to installing Dexter's froyo on the Milestone XT720.
Obviously, I can only post 15 minutes max onto youtube, so there are a few cuts in the video that might make certain steps seem quicker than they actually are.
BE PATIENT!!! Things take time to load. Don't rush things, and when in doubt... reboot the phone.
I'm sure that there will be questions, comments, complaints, and criticisms. Post them here, and I will address them if I can.
Link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvU1CptOe14
Just an FYI: If you are not comfortable doing this...then DON'T. I am not responsible if you brick your phone or lose any of your data. Please pay attention to the fact that wiping/clearing/resetting data literally means that it will ALL BE GONE and not able to be retrieved.
awesome video...keep up the good work!

thanks for a great tutorial!
Many thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have done the ROM installing process before (on my previous phone) but I always feel worried that I'm going to do something wrong and mess up things. I'm not putting Dexter's ROM on just yet (I just got my XT720 and want to make sure everything is working before voiding warranty) but this makes me feel safer about putting it on when I do.
Thanks for your work.
Very precise .. to the point .. tutorial.. good work reverend...!

Superb video Rev,
it puts alot of us at ease, esp us that know sweet f.a. about this but follow these sites with interest in doing this kinda stuff.
I would like to ask you if there is anything else planned in the pipeline because I feel safer being able to visualise it as apposed to following instruction in text.
Your voice, details and mannerisms are perfect. MANY MANY THANKS
Issues I have is this (as newb):
I have a motoroi xt720. i wish to add the latest dexters 2.2 to it and all the bug updates, (confused about this sdtoapp, partitions etc stuff and what to do with my sd card)
also the overclocking , can it be left alone or does the latest dexters allow you to set/change it.
or shall i wait for v1,4 that will include all the latest bugfixes
life is never easy but this has to be easier than being married to a woman

Thanks, I appreciate the comments.
As far as what is coming down the pipeline, I may have to make a revised video that includes the common questions that I have been asked over the last few months. Most people are still a bit confused as to how to run patches, how to apply themes, how to move the cache and many little nitpicky things. I can appreciate the apprehensiveness people have about doing this. You spend a bit of money on a "nice" phone, and the last thing you want to do it trash it with your own ignorance! I have "bricked" this phone several times, and have had to flash it back to stock, which is why I have done a video on how to get back to a fresh stock rom and start over. The ability to try it again should give people a bit more freedom to experiment and attempt some of the steps outlined in this forum. My own personal record, so far, is 14 flashes in one day. FACEPALM.
If the developers pump out another significant release, you will see me make another video explaining how to apply it and I'll take that opportunity to address some other questions as well. In the meantime, I encourage you to watch ALL of the videos that I have uploaded on my Youtube channel to see if they might shed some additional light on how to proceed with modifying your phone.
Happy Flashing!
My own personal record, so far, is 14 flashes in one day. FACEPALM.

When I made my videos, I filmed them all on the same day, so I had to keep going through the process over and over again. I would get half way through a video and something would interrupt me and I would have to start over. During one take of a video, right after a flash, my phone rang, and it was a wrong number!
I keep waiting for the phone to prompt me that I have hit my maximum number of flashes.
Thanks Reverend for replying so quickly.
I need to get to the races as you put it lolol.
May I pm you with my question in order not to plug up this thread, (if you feel my PM may help others with its question then please feel free to quote/use it)

Everyone is always welcome to PM me, but I recommend asking here in the forums. If YOU have the question, then chances are someone else does too, and we can have this info publicly available for everyone to learn from.
Okies let try to put this down covering all my worries and concerns
Lets take my motoroi xt720 flashed with 2.1 UK stock
SD card 8gb just in phone as bundled with when it came and ready to go
Follow the Rev's video tutorial on how to partition with Linux, all software loaded and ready to go
Q1 ? what would be a good size partition to make on the fat and ext3 for an 8gb?
Q2 ? Do we need to partition the SD card or can it be left as a 8gb card. I wish to put the update file on after , so I'm reading I need the partitions ?
Once this is done I take it we unzip v1.3 and load on Dexters 2.2 FROYO on the SD card. ? If so in which partition ?
Follow the superb video by the Rev to put on 1.3
Then check phone and hey presto its 2.2
Then we come to the upgrade bug zip file,
Where is it loaded on too, how do we safely add it ?
Overclocking can we leave as stock or do we adjust it with OC app.
apps to sd, link2sd , which one is easiest, do we only need to use one. ??
as a newb with limited tech knowledge, thats where I am with this.
so desperate to go to the races

OKay.
First of all, your partitions should be:
-1 gb or less for ext2/ext3
-The rest as FAT32.
I personally always do just under 1gb as ext3, and the rest FAT32. Then, I create the directories "app" and "dalvik-cache" on the ext3 partition. Unzip all your files to the FAT32 partition. Do NOT put anything on the ext3 other than those two empty partitions.
Once you've rooted and loaded 2.2, go back to your card and stick the file "whatever update you're loading.zip" into the openrecovery/updates directory of your FAT32, and then run OpenRecovery and choose that file to load. Be sure to clear out the cache and wipe dalvik while you're in there too.
After rebooting, this will make the dalvik-cache active on your ext3 partition, and your apps should be in there too. Link2sd is totally different and I havent found any personal value to it myself, but feel free to experiment. You would have to learn how that works and how to adjust your partition to accomodate it. I'm content with using the app2sd that is done by default just by creating the "app" directory on my ext3.
Overclock? That's up to you. I do. I keep mine at 1000mhz all of the time. I also use SetCPU and SD Speed Boost. This seems to give my phone the "zippiness" I desire without killing my battery too quickly. I have a charger next to my bed and I plug it in every night and unplug it every morning. This works for me.
Gparted not working as I think it should
Stuck with GParted Rev,
I have a 8GB card that shows as vfat7.4 in Puppy
It shows mnt/sdc1 and all my folders from my exsisting software is on there.
When I open up Gparted
dev/sda it shows as 1021.mb but i cannot get it to show sdab as in your tutorial.
the size of dev/sda shows 1021.Mib ?
anyone throw some light on this ?
i was thinking it would show near on 8gb ?
or am i being like the mrs (blonde)
thanks
Whatever gparted shows as currently on the card, delete that. Then you can create new partitions. Also, make sure you are looking at the card and not the harddrive!
Got the card now gparted. semed to have an issue using the built in card reader on my laptop. When using a seperatre plug in card reader, it found it .
Thanks for your time so far Rev...
OK UPGRADED TO 2.2 ON MOTOROI XT720 (not a MILESTONE) with Dexters rom
Doesnt work well,
No rotation, no LEDS no 3g. But worth trying
going back to 2.1 ce sbf and live without a few luxuries
Went to the races but as usual, no winners ..
REV thanks for your help and time,, appreciated

SOS!! Upgraded my XT720 from 2.1 to 2.2 and Screwed UP

Hi everyone
I am in need of urgent Help
I upgraded my Motorola Milestone XT720 from 2.1 to 2.2 using Cincinatti Bell Manual.
I referred this
http://www.cincinnatibell.com/milestoneupgrade/#howtoupgrade
Now, After successful upgrade, I have some serious issues
1) My Camera's Flash isnt working. I cant enable it.
2) Performance is low
3) Lost MotoNav. How can I get it back?
4) Even if I keep Pattern lock, the slide lock do appears
5) Also, How I can merge duplicate contacts? like one contact has 3 numbers saved that are same..
Thankyou
1. im not sure. should work.
2. performance is low. you can overclock using milestone overclock if you are still rooted. however, if you are not the kind who maintains you phone everyday, i suggest you go back to 2.1 as its the most stable.
3. just google motonav apk
4. thats a flaw in the rom, cant be fixed. if you'd like to try out custom roms and maintain you phone like most of us do here, then go ahead. its very exciting lol
5. you can merge duplicate contacts by signing in to gmail on a computer, click contacts and just look around the buttons. its called "find and merge duplicate contacts" if im not wrong.
hope this helped
1) Tried all level best best to start flash... It didnt. Installed Sleekcamera apk.
2) Google find and merge always crashes and unable to do the action
3) Whats overclocking? Is it a self explanatory software??
4) Dont feel like going back to 2.1...Love App2SD
5) I also have some issues - cant play HD video and my internal video player isnt working to its full potential as I am unable o avi file. I feel, that there is codec problem, as Ringdriod isnt working too...

if you like to have apps on your sd, there's a more advanced way to have it. i think its better than android's own move apps to sd. many roms we have around here have app2ext automatically set if they detect any ext partitions on your sd card. it moves all user apps onto an ext partition on your sd card (you have to use a partition tool to make this ext partition).
overclocking is actually just controlling your cpu clock speeds. most of us overclock our phone because it sometimes get laggy if we use the stock speeds. theres an app that helps us overclock on the market called milestone overclock. please remember that you need to be rooted do these stuff.
for the camera, you might have hardware problems. i dont know. contacts you should try doing the find and merge duplicates again. i'll upload a pic to show you what it looks like.
i recommend mioze's cm6 rom if you ever want to play around with flashing stuff. the stablest i've tried so far. Cyanogenmod is very versatile lol. there are a lot of themes for this rom too, made by Sileshn our master themer. for the videos i dont think i can help. you could try mobo player from the market (i think?)
Thankyou - Sorry to buggin u again n again. One last help

How do I do that..in a esy way? I saw I video and it was very complicated for guy like me. Any easy way like app or something??

No bro. It used work fine before upgrade.

Thanks..but Gmail says Oops… the system encountered a problem (#101)...Maybe due to slow Internet(300kbps). Any app??

This is baffling for me. I feel like M not too smart for smartphone

Yup, I have that. Unable to to pay HD vid. It shows a lag of sound and vid. Tried soft decoding. Didnt work.
Couple of things about this. Are you still Rooted? CBW gave root permissions and then I think later in the tutorial they tell you how to give it back. Don't give it back. For what you want to do, you need to keep Root permission of your device.
Next are you comfortable with flashing custom ROMs and doing realtive non-beginner stuff on your phone. We can help you and walk you through stuff but unfortunately, there isn't an "app for that". If so, then here we go.
If you successfully were able to upgrade your phone, then you can do this. There are many custom ROMS in our forums that you can use. CM6, Hellmonger's, Kahl's V4, Bravo (wip) and CM7 (wip). I suggest CM6 or Kahl's V4 as they are stable enough for beginners to learn on. The have 99% working everything and what doesn't work, is either being fixed or there are already work-arounds. (search the development forums for these)
CBW's ROM doesn't have app2ext. It only has the native Froyo app2sd where you can go to settings>apps>pick your app>move to sd. This is not the same as App2ext or Link2sd. In these you have to partition your SDcard with an ext partition. Do you know how to partition your SD card? All the above ROMs do have the native Froyo app2sd, so if you don't know how to partition your SD card, that is fine too.
Answer those and then you can decide to move forward or not. It isn't hard and you don't have to be super smart to do it, although the more you read around, there are some seriously intelligent people in here. It is just from reading your posts above, how comfortable are you? You will not brick your phone and make it a paperweight, we can bring it back from the brink, if need be. We've done it before.
**Milestone Overclock is an app in the market (requires Root) that is free to download. Just download it and set it at preset 1000/66 and you'll definately seem a boost in performance.
**Google contacts. If merge doesn't work for you, go into google on PC and look at your contact and you may have some duplicates in there. When i first got it, i had 3 of everyone too. Also, go into your phone and go to settings>account/sync and see what is sycnhing. Side note: if you have a Google+ account, unsych that as everyone in your circles will be put on your phone and vice-versa.
**Moboplayer. I use this all the time and have no problem seeing HD vids. Might want to take another look at the preferences. It even says it on the thunmbnails that it is HD.
**Camera. If you don't like the the camera function, there are a few on the market (mostly paid though) that work well. I use Vignette, but there is Camera360 and I think one for LG too. If your flash isn't working though, that might be a hardware issue.
Figure out what you want to do with your phone (flash custom ROM or not) and we can help. If you already flashed the CBW upgrade, then you are really half-way there.
Also sorry for the manifesto sized response.

See this before you do the below. Easy read but might work for you instead of flashing back to 2.1.
Here is a recent troubleshoot that we fixed.

No need to take back to service. We can get you back to stock pretty easily.
All you need is to download RSDlite on your computer, install it and run it.
Here are the .sbf's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953863
Here are the directions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753170 See first post. It's easy to do.
