[Roms/Morphs] Soulife's quiet corner - G1 Android Development

Okay, this is the place where all my updates will be taking place. The forum has become somewhat of a "cluster-f*ck" of stuff, so instead of posting a new thread every time I want to share something I'm just gonna post it here. Eventually, I'll have this thread organized enough to hold any builds I'm playing with, along with any resources I might wanna share. (I've been playing with Metamorph lately, and I'm gonna start posting any "morphs" I make too. To put it simply this is a pretty cool tool for patching apks/jars/zips on the fly. Hats off to its' creators.)
While I'm setting the foundation for this thread it's gonna look a little messy at first. But once my posts come together, and as i update over time, It will get better organized and be cleanly laid out. So long as my time permits.
I'm gonna post as i work, so ill start with this...
I got a little bored with the same old rogers cupcake I've been running for ages, so since there still hasn't been a "Rogers Donut release" i started playing with "Google's Donut release". I got a little obsessed with speed in this one. IMHO its the perfect blend of speed and functionality, and I'm not done yet. Anyone interested can check it out at the link below.

DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER APPS2SD APPLICATIONS ON THIS BUILD. YOU WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM. THEY ARE NOT NECESSARY BECAUSE THIS ROM WILL DO A2SD AUTOMATICALLY AND BETTER!
General Info
Built with Cyanogen's kernel and ramdisk (4.2.4)
(I modified his a2sd script and ramdisk to be more suited for this build, also when using A2SD dalvik-cache stays on internal storage and not on sdcard)
10MB kernel hack
UNIVERSAL! Runs on both Dream and Magic 32B
Now identifies itself as either T-Mobile G1 or myTouch
Enhanced ramdisk which uses optimal mount options and smart startup
Includes E2FSProgs for checking and converting Ext filesystems
Apps2SD is automatic! All you need is a second partition (ext).
Supports ext2/ext3/ext4 for Apps2SD
Clean filesystem shutdown at poweroff/reboot, and fsck at boot (no FS corruption!)
Highly optimized kernel with many extra modules
Maximum CPU scaling frequency set to 528MHz with latency tweaks
Runs /system/sd/userinit.sh after A2SD setup and before starting the runtime for user scripts
Terminal Tools
Added Cyanogen's sexy black terminal
Added Busybox (version 1.14.2)
Added rwsystem and rosystem in bin (easily remount system as read/write or read only)
Added powertop, htop, nano, e2fsck tools, parted, zip, zipalign, telnetd, to xbin
Added Metamorph! (it is called metamorph in this build, not mm.sh! to invoke use "metamorph" command!)
Added man(ual) pages to bin (type "man" in terminal for detailed help on specific terminal commands
Added fix_permissions in bin (its called "fixperm" in this build) (version 1.31)
Added "bart" in bin (Backup and restore tool, version 1.0.1)
Added "usb-tether" to bin to easily start/stop usb tethering via terminal
Removed some "unused" binaries from build source.
Compcache 0.6 (Not enabled by default since this build "flys" without it. Type "compcache start" from terminal as SU to activate, "compcache stop" to deactivate)
I know this isn't a terminal tool, but you control it through terminal
Applications
Newest Google Maps app with turn by turn navigation
Added Browser enhancements from loccy (version 1.5)
Added MMS enhancements from rgv151 (for donut)
Added Phone app enhancements by cytown (version 21)
Added Contact list photos patch from Geesun
Added Wired tether to control usb tethering (version 1)
Added YouTube from eclair with working My Account
Added Superuser from ChainsDD/Zinx
Added Work Email for Exchange support
Added java support (for jad/jar files. you know for apps and games that run on "non" smart phones)
Added HTC IME virtual keyboard
Added spareparts
Added voice search
Other stuff
Meltus sound mod (generation 7, version 2, revision 2)
Added allow protected downloads
Added haykuro's apn list with updated apns
Added fallback font for more languages
Added Libc memcpy optimizations from code aurora
Removed all but needed ringtones, alarms, notifications.
To Do
"optimize" pngs and jpgs
recompress apks
(As a rule of thumb i try to make my builds fit on the standard spl size released on the dream/g1 [which is approx 69000k, right now this build sit at approx 72000k. This is only a rule of thumb since almost everyone has haykuro's spl or an spl that has more than 6900k.] But as a disclaimer i feel inclined to inform you than you must have the "Danger" spl, rooted rogers, mytouch, or a magic/sapphire32b device to run this build. I can remove this advisory once I recompress the apks and all the images.)

its all in good humor. real life grabbed be for a few hours so i got side tracked. but your right, it was fair game. just bustin stones...
BTW... to the mod that changed my tags... I'm flattered.

I agree with you soul. The forums are really cluttered up. Why have 6 diferrent threads for maps with navigation. That pisses my off when I just keep seeing them. But can't wait to tryout your new work. You always done a good job

Looks like a pretty complete rom. I'm downloading now.

Easily the fastest rom around. I feel it's faster than Dwang's (which to me was slow in the first place)
Good job.

Coming from dwang 1.13. Flashed, wiped, flashed again....and after ANDROID it boots to a black screen. I can boot without my SD card, but if I insert it and shut down again it hangs again with black screen. Card has FAT (or FAT32, can't remember), ext3, and swap and works fine with all other A2SD roms.....

Sorry, soulife, I'll keep this to PM in the interest of keeping this thread on track.

Screen Shots?

wow
this is great... everything i've ever wanted. perfect

Try format your ext partition, there may be files in there conflicting with this rom, or check with parted to make sure you do have ext partition, I had similar problem last month when my ext vanished completely

Nice rom as always...I have one problem..I used metamorph in terminal and it told me to place a .zip in a folder blah...I already had it set up..I had to use the old method and it automatically read my .zip in the folder...what can I do so I don't have to do it the long way anymore do I have to rename something? Its a small very small issue I was just curious..thanks again

ROM Upgraders - How do you deal with settin up your own stuff?

So Seems like with every other Eye blink people around here Flash in and out ROMS.
So I see all the cool things in the new ROM images and want to get the latest and greatest.
Though I hesitate as I really dont like having to setup the phone afterwards.
I install about 5 other Apps on the phone, do some of my own tweaking, etc and I'm back up and running.... Takes a few more hours after the flash.
Is there any way to Automate this?
Anyway to Use an Existing ROM and then Cook my own stuff into it without having to cook/dump the original?

You can try Sprite Backup...
cheers
No backup solution works when a major base upgrade is attempted.
I have cabs for all the apps I run on my SD card along with spb p+ backup and voice dialer recognition file backups. Then, I go through a list I've written out & install everything by hand. Pita for sure but I can get through it in 1-2 hours.
I cook in my own settings by doing diffs and regdumps before flashing. Makes my life much easier. The level of expertise to do so isn't much more advanced than cooking your own rom and creating your own OEM package w/registry dumps.
Hope this helps..
I use PocketPC Installer from here http://www.pocketpctoolkit.com/WhatIsIt1_PPCInstaller.php
The PocketPC Installer is unique.
Simply drag'n'drop your PocketPC / Windows Mobile .cab file & data files into the PocketPC Installer, and it will compress all of your files into two types of self-extracting Installer files.

An installer .exe file for your PocketPC / Windows Mobile device
This is a single.exe file, which you run on your PDA, which contains compressed copies of all of your .cab files/other files, plus the code to required to intelligently install them onto a device.
You could put this one file as a download on your website, or put it on a memory card. The user would just need to insert the memory card into their device to install your suite of .cab files / data files.
An installer .exe file for your Desktop
This is an .exe that you run on your PC, which also contains compressed copies of all of your .cab files/other files within it. This .exe will copy your files onto your device, and start installing them.
Let's have a look at an example.
Here, we have dragged a total of 6.9Mb .Net CF / application .cab & data files into the PocketPC Installer.
Two types of compressed, standalone installer .exe files.
You just have to decide which of them is more useful for you, and ignore the other.

Truth be told I'm like Sleuth, I have all my apps as CAB files on my storage card. You could take all your settings and put them into a registry file but I'm too lazy to do that so instead I have a text file which reminds me all the tweaks/settings I like to have.

That app looks AWESOME! But it also comes with an AWESOMELY LARGE price! Would love to get it with a 50% discount...but not sure I can drop that kind of $$$ for the app.
Me personally... i have made 1 big cab file to do all my dirty work.. its about 3meg in size.. but it sets up my email, rings, sounds, apps, etc... what i did with **most** apps was extract them from their oem cab and put them in my cab.. so i have 1 cab file that does almost everything..
I too have all my cabs on the storage card in three folders - Apps, Games, and Setup.
In my setup folder are cab's that I have created (or pilfered) to do my favoured reg tweaks, and some backup files for individual apps (like PocketBreeze, Movie Guide, an OPML file for RSS feeds, etc, etc.) These get installed straight after flashing a ROM. (I need to get round to doing what shogunmark has done and collect these all into one cab though...)
I install other cabs as I need to use them when I'm out and about (all of the filenames have my registration numbers added to them).
Oh and before I flash any ROM, I add my personal WIMP package to it - that populates the "Owner Information" with my personal details, and installs and registers the "Where is my Phone" application.

Looks pretty cool, though not at $75!! I dont flash that often.
Looks like I have to keep my CABs laying around... Put that 6gb Storage Card to use.
Few weeks ago I upgraded from Helmi's rom to Custel's (wanted to try that new AT&T radio out). I installed all my app's and tweaks, but started having SOD's. I flashed back to original rom in between, flashed back to Custel's rom and installed all apps and tweaks again... Again started having SOD's (this install was my fault that i didn’t test enough is the SOD problem still there, before installing my programs).
Ok, then i thought i flash Dutty's nice lite rom. Flashed that and installed all my programs and tweaks AGAIN... And now the best thing, I’m not kidding; at the same moment I got everything installed FINALLY, I refreshed Kaiser upgrading page on XDA and there it was, A NEW IMPROVED VERSION OF THE DUTTY'S LITE ROM... For real i was cursing out loud!!!
Then i just thought, F*CKIT, i have been installing for Saturday and now Sunday too, my GF is totally pissed off already, no harm of doing this once AGAIN…
No flashing for me until major upgrade comes out… Kaiser is now running smoothly though, no problems at all.
I'm using CabviaActivesync which is free and allows you to right click on any cab and automatically send it to the phone. Makes it quick.
http://www.modaco.com/content/Windo.../CABviaActiveSync-FREE-Edition-now-available/
Right now, I do everything manually but I am also looking into creating one big cab file with all my software in there.
Truth be told, I do the 'cab' backup folder on my SD card like most of you do; and I end up setting everything up through the next few days as I notice things that are not how I like them.
ie: turn off Txt Message Sent notification, reinit touchflow, slide sound off, put all my contacts BACK into the fav contact list, reassign pictures to them, etc....
So, I'm basically in the same boat; as soon as I get it JUST the way I want it, I reflash it. We are all victims I tell you; victims of our own progress.
Cabs on your SD card is the way to go. I just downloaded pocketpc installer and used it to install a lot of cabs... and I must say, I am impressed. I'm going to keep my cabs on my SD card (just in case), and but use my new installer after flashes. w00t!

Interesting thing about that...Spb software used to install a fully regged version when you put your serial in the installer prompt...so then I'd just capture those CABS and never have to worry about it again.
But now they've gotten wise with their new versions and all putting your serial in the installer does is writes it to your registry if your device is connected...*sigh* Ironically as best I can tell the serials aren't tied to your name/device in any way (for Spb software) so its not exactly like they're combating piracy since all it'd take is one person releasing their serial number and everyone could use it.
Anyway...*grumble grumble* I miss the days of having all pre-regged cabs...
I tend to copy my startmenu/programs folder of shortcuts to storage card. Many applications run without installing so in preserving their shortcuts, you save alot time. Those in main memory which i have to install again, i keep as cabs.
Also i use iLauncher (other launchers like spb pocket plus etc also can do the same), the icons linked to the shortcuts on storage card, i save its configuration file. After a new rom, all i have to do is install ilauncher, restore my settings and i'm almost set to go.
Have to re-key in all my serials again tho.

[ROM] Ravenge - Optimised Rogers Modification - aka 'ramjet' (r7 updated: 24-June-09)

Hey all,
Firstly I'll introduce myself as I'm relatively new around here. My name is Geoff (aka ravenge) and I'm a 22yo, IT Systems Support Manager in South Australia. Things that take up most of my time lately are Work, LANning and tinkering with my G1 that I've had since a few weeks after Optus released them in AU.
Since purchasing my phone, I've thoroughly enjoyed gaining root, and playing with the works of JF, TD, Haykuro and Cyanogen (to name a few). In a nutshell I've tried dozens of excellent ROMs thanks to these guys.
After much experimentation, I decided to move away from the shiny hero as I found it to be rather unreliable and relatively slow. I loved the HTC apps of Hr's Sapphire ports and I loved the speed of ION, then came Rogers, a fully finished, fully packaged rom made by HTC for Rogers in Canada. This meant that the HTC apps were stock and didn't need any porting, and more importantly the rom was designed for the G1 so it ran fantastically on my handset!
I loved the rom but, stock, I found it a little lacking in the features dept. Many people have repacked their own flavours of Rogers, but none fitted my desire for a 'complete' rom.
Since I rebuild my phone consistantly, I wanted a rom that has all the core applications that I use. firstly Apps2SD with ext3 had to be standard. I wanted superuser, terminal, mtt browser, and all the other goodies you've seen floating around the forums. I also wanted to change some options to AU standards so that i wouldn't need to do it later. An example was the Date format from MM-dd-yyyy to dd-MM-yyyy.
After much bug testing, and a LOT of help from awesome xda users such as Haykuro, Cyanogen, MarcusMaximus. I'm happy to have finally reached a stable build.
Starting with the original Rogers rom graciously provided by Haykuro here
History:
This Build is based on the Rogers rom provided by haykuro. I take no ownership for the original files, or any of the
modifications made (except where labelled otherwise). This Build would not be possible without the awesome works of: Haykuro,
JesusFreke, Cyanogen, TheDudeOfLife, and all the developers of the apps included. <3 your work!
To make it significantly easier to differentiate between my rom and other rogers repacks, I am nicknaming mine 'ramjet'.
r7 FEATURES LIST:
Optimisations from Cyanogen's 3.4.4 build:
Cyanogen's 2.6.27.25 kernel (anticipatory iosched, enabled multicast and max cpufreq at 528MHz)
boot.img
a2sd scripts - automatic A2SD using bind mounts
various other file system tools and libraries
AUTO Apps to SD - Standard:
As mentioned above, we're now using bind mounts. This means more stability and flexibility for filesystems. Apps to SD will automatically run for you with next to no setup required (apart from needing a partitioned SD card). If you don't have the partition, it will operate as per any build without a2sd (more or less)
Applications:
-All rogers specific apps removed
/system/app
+amazon mp3
+superuser
+Terminal Emulator
+Browser with multitouch (will possibly replace with HTC browser)
+bugreport.apk
+Google Voice Search
+Latest Google Maps
+spareparts
+updated Quick office to 1.0.1
+HTC Sync
+IM
pre-installed to /data/app
+Backup for root users
+apps2sd
+wifitether 1.51
+Fbook.apk
+Forecast Widget by Koxx
+mymaps 1.1.6

+linda file manager 1.2.10
+NetCounter 0.8
+Locale 0.611 beta
+Astrid 2.8.6
+TwitterRide 1.3.1
Cosmetics:
added images (my own)
in app/launcher.apk
transparent handle for app drawer (just because I prefer it)
in framework/framework-res.apk
battery depletion images with % included (cause I didn't like the battery icon going GREEN GREEN GREEN GREEN RED-FLAT)
NOTE this works off of modifications on the original images. As such, there are only levels at 0% 10% 20% 40% 60% 80% and 100%.
boot animation / audio copied from hero, cause its fancier and modified to include some build details and a picture of roger ramjet (note, Roger Ramjet the cartoon character is copyright of someone else, NOT ME)
3G:
A HTC lib was causing some problems for HQ youtube over 3G. Replacing with the lib from ION seems to fix it.
Audio Mod:
Max Volume mod by Meltus (V5.3+Bluetooth fix)
Dalvicvm:
dalvicvm from ION - cause it's shown speed improvements
Localisations:
Changed date format default to dd-MM-yyyy
Changed build.prop ro.product.locale.region=AU
Added Haykuro's APN List, modified by me to include the AU Carrier 'YES OPTUS' and many other AU carriers (that still need testing) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3891703
Added Optus voicemail config.
Changed default languages to en-AU for dialer and ime.

WHAT YOU NEED!
rooted g1 (duh)
I've just started using Cyanogen's recovery, it's great!
The Latest RADIO and SPL from Haykuro's here: ** Potential Bricking ** read up properly on this!
Apps2SD needs a Decent SD Card with an ext3 partiton. But a2sd is NOT a requirement to run this rom.

I recommend wiping, but it may not be necessary.]
The first boot will be very slow if you have lots of apps on your SD.

FAQ:
Apps 2 SD: a lot of people have asked "Do I have to use apps to sd?" - you do not.
"if i had apps to sd before?" - thanks to cyanogen's handywork, it will automatically find what you have and set it up for you.
"can you port something from hero?" - probably not, the launchers / framework are different causing problems in most circumstances
"Do I need to wipe?" Probably. You may or may not need to wipe depending on where you've come from. You might be able to get away with just deleting cache (note cache may also be stored on your sd card from apps2sd and will need to be removed manually). If you get lots of force closes, chances are you need a wipe!
Has anyone made any themes? OPhone-V1.0 - ported by barakinflorida
P.S. I added a splash screen for those who know what it is.
If you have any problems, I'll do my best to support them. If you don't like my rom, use someone elses. If you have any useful suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
Regards,
ravenge
CREDITS:
This build was based on Haykuro's rogers.
In the past, Haykuro has been legendary at providing awesome HTC stuff ported from here and there, and a lot of the great roms that are around today are especially thanks to him.
If you would like to support Haykuro, you can buy him some nesquik!
I also got a lot of help, and used a lot of Cyaonogen's optimized android files and kernals from his latest builds. This helped me implement Apps2SD and get the build running nice and fast. For mor information about all of his great work, take a look here
Feel free to Buy Cyanogen a beer!
The AppstoSD2.apk Application comes straight from MarcusMaximus with an updated icon by me.
If you like this App please support Marcus by donating (aka purchasing it) in the Paid market.
MarcusMaximus and his Apps2SD thread is [http://tinyurl.com/n2ah4z]here.[/url]
As mentioned I have used Meltus's audio mod. The one I used is quite loud so you may prefer to check out Meltus' thread here and apply your own. Donate to Meltus here
I also believe that a lot of credit to certain parts of the android development should go to JesusFreke.
Go visit his Blog here and honour his work by donating here
The apks I included were from various sources and in general were extracted from other peoples builds, for example TheDude's 1.2b or Cyanogen or Haykuro's work. If I have forgotton to credit someone somewhere (which is pretty likely - SORRY!) Please PM me so I can give credit where it's due!

This should fix a LOT of problems people were having, including the "coma" bug where the phone would run out of memory and wouldn't wake from standby.
a2sd now uses bind mounts (instead of aufs) allowing better stability and compatibility etc.
+replaced default google maps with newer one
+IM app. (let me know if I missed some files)
/system/app/IM.apk
/system/app/TmoImPlugin.apk
+replaced libhtc_ril.so with the one from ion. This should give '3G' and allow HQ youtube over 3G.
+boot.mp3 update
+localisation settings language default to en_AU for locale and dialer \customize\MNS\default.xml
+modified update-script (now closer to cyanogens) and
cleaned out xbin

r5:
+altered mount auto in a2sd to use busybox to avoid boot loop, allowing potential compatibility for other card types.
(though i'm still fairly certain that e2fsk and tune2fs are meant to convert the partition to ext3 file system anyway)
+Updated Meltus V4 (quality) loud mod. Sounds better than the V3 though not quite as loud.
+moved some apps to /data/app to clear up some system space and make it possible to update/remove them as normal if required. (this required an update to the update-script)

updated build.prop
I could use some help confirming/fixing any of the APNs I used, as I'm with OPTUS I don't have the opportunity to work with the other carriers. I'd love to hear from you.
I'll try this out, sounds good! Its good to see an Australian build pop up, now I won't have to deal with switching date formats every time xP
in case you didn't know.. it's Rogers without the D.. they're a mobile carrier in Canada.
sounds good.. but does this only work with ext3?? i have ext2

Theoretically, cyanogen's script converts the filesystem to ext3 to make it compatible, I'm yet to try it though. (adding it to my TODO list)
Edit: Apologies for the double post. didn't realise I couldn't delete unwanted posts.
holy moly the HTC start-up sound went through my ear drums~ I am still at the HTC screen but I guess it's gonna take a little longer than ususal due to the extensive inclusion of this and that I think I'm gonna love this thanks Ravenge~ I did a wipe and it works now... hey hold on... omg... My Apps2SD is working too!!... my ext2 was corrupted though I just kept on using the same sd regardless the reduced capacity... (Too busy these days) now it mounts back nicely...
wow... wow... this is insane... btw u have all the goodies working flawlessly.
man i told my slef i was not going to try rogers but...ok you talked me into to it.
Use busybox to mount -t auto
ravenge said:
NOTE: Originally this is supposed to support ext2 however, leaving mount -t auto caused a boot loop in my build. I imagine something is missing.
If anyone could provide some insight, this would be awesome. For the time being ONLY ext3 is supported.

The stock 'mount' binary doesn't support an auto mount. If you do a logcat, you'll see it's failing to mount the second partition and therefore can't access the dalvik cache, which is required for a full boot.
The fix is easy, just use 'busybox mount' instead of the regular 'mount'. You can even do this from an adb shell from inside the boot loop and you'll see the system finishes booting and comes online

Doesnt work dude......says cannot install on this system......
the Rom is very stable and is very good......mixture of all available rom's but the genius has picked up the best among all and given us on one shot....
good work......thank u.....
Sorry to sound ignorant, but I've never used any Apps2SD modification.
Do I need an Apps2SD capable card to run this rom, or will it work fine without it?

[TOOL] iAPK Suite v0.9 - Drag & Drop APK Installer

Alright, straight to it.
This is iAPK Suite 0.9. The newest incarnation of iAPK. It's functions have been vastly increased, while keeping it's sole purpose still unique.
The new version of iAPK merits it a new name, iAPK Suite. This means it not only installs APKs, it is a full fledged manager. It installs, deletes, backups, and restores APKs from your respective Android devices. Aside from being drag 'n' drop friendly, i've incorporated a tremendous amount of useful features. Hell, it even signs APKs with a simple click.
There are currently two versions. iAPK Suite and iAPK Mini. The Suite version allows full APK management, while the mini just has simple drag and drop as well as the docking panel without any other APK functions which makes the file size practically cut in half.
Mind you, the usage of this application gets a lot easier when you learn all of the shortcuts I implemented to making things a lot quicker. A wiki will be made to explore everything about iAPK and how to use every function i've built into it, even the not so obvious ones

This application works globally for ANY Android Device. Posting it in here is just because i'm in this sub-forum a lot. But this application will work with ANY Android device. It would be nice if this thread was pinned for easy access
Pretty cool. Heres another alternative i use. I just created a batch file where i made it pickup a file as an argument and "adb install -r" it. I compiled it to an exe and gave it an icon and set it as a default program for apk's. Here it is for those interested. You can either set it as default program for apk filetype, or just drag an apk into it.
Link
I like it. Simple and nice interface and easy to work with it
Thanks

Hey xda inhabitants!
Here's something I made to shorten APK installing. This is my take on an easy drag and drop apk installer with quick and to the point functions. It's very simple and straight forward, drag and drop your APK onto my program, and it will install it over ADB to your phone! Very simple as opposed to using the 0.04 second long browse button, Dragging and dropping saves a bunch of time!

Hmm..You guys are right.. it does not support multiple apks... It might since it's through adbs command, not sure if that would work. But I have a method of making multiple apks work at once. Lemme throw that on the table.
...Done.
Updated, and fixed v0.2 link.
pretty sweeet
sweet, love the idea of batch installs! Save a lot of time when switching between roms
Thanks! If anyone has anything else they want added. Let me know.
color me stupid but i cant get this to work...
may be that im on a pc at work.
there is nothing fancy needed to get it to work is there?
i am able to use the sdk tools and ADB can see my phone but the app keeps saying failed

I did some quick debugging and I found out that I broke the single APK installer by adding the multiple batch one. Damn lol. Well for now, untill I release the completely working one, just drop two or more apks on it for them to properly work. That is an error on my part, must have forgot an if/then/else somewhere along the road, I'll fix it now. Should be compiled within an hour. Thanks
Terribly sorry for the confusion. I have fixed the weird problem. Everything now works as it should. Please re-download v0.2 from the original post.
This is a really Nice utility
I have a couple of requests. Feel free to make them come true
1. Make it so if set as a default app for apks, when i double click an apk it launches this program, installs the apk, then shuts the program.
2. Make it so it detects if adb is currently in $path, u can do that using something like errorlevels in batch. So if it detects it, then it shouldnt have to extract the files such as adb and the dlls.
Just my $0.02
Great!! thanks!

This.. is not the easiest thing to do, since I would now need to make my app utilize commandlines in win shells to allow me to add apk file locations to a command to be installed quickly. It's definitely possible, but unfortunately i can't complete it within an hour so, that'll take a bit longer.

Anything? Lol (I won't go there!) What is the advantage to this verses using su file manager to just copy and paste within the phone? I guess I should just try it out, but didn't want to waste my time cause I have no problems with adb commands, but some of my friends might like it! Thanks!

[ROM]Cdma Desire Froyo Sense 2.0 xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2 [8/20/11]

I meant to post this earlier but feel asleep. I would like to thank the team here. Mainly loph for getting me to do it. Any way to the caution/screenshots.
Caution this rom uses a new format unlike any other rom. Which means it requires a ext partition. If you do not have one it will not boot and/or install. To see how to do one read the install section.

I've been asked of the performance which can be seen by clicking show
Short video of features and look. No it doesn't lag that bad blame it on the not so good desire gpu:
Known Issues:
Mms needs put in manually use apn manager or apn restore from the market. For carriers that has issues with uscc sense base I may need to release packs to fix it.
Mms has a small limit (Fixed in Rc2)
There is a force close about some sound blah blah on boot. (Fixed in Rc2)
Calling voicemail or anything that requires dialing numbers using the touch pad doesn't work. You need change audible touch tones to long under settings.
Verizon branding in dialer. (Fixed in Rc2)
I replaced the old market with the newest. It seems to cause issues for some people. I even got it. You may get a fc or where downloads say paused/won't download. This seems to happen on 3g though may happen on wifi. If it does go to manage applications clearing data for the market & market updater. Reboot where it should be fine.
Known Working:
Apps2sd+ No flashing zip required.
Cmtd with no cache issue.
Usb mounting of sd-card (Checked windows and linux)
Wireless Tethering (Checked windows and linux)
3g/data
Camer/Video Camera
Htcsense.com
Skins
Ui sounds
Music/Video
Gps
Wifi
Sms/Mms
Syncing with gmail, etc...
Things Removed:
Mainly just the verizon apps
What is Done/Added:
Dodexed to allow themeing
Optipnd'd almost the whole rom
Prerooted
Init.d support
Busybox
Nano
Bash
Apps people may not use or updates moved to data (AdobFlashplayer, AdobeReader, Facebook, OiFileManager, Gmail, Maps, Myspace, QuickOffice, Street, YourNavigator and Youtube)
Darktremors apps2sd+ with dalvik to sd-ext on boot disabled
Able to be undervolted now (Uses almost the exact voltages of my vork kernel)
More govenors now (PowerSave & Interactive)
Default scheduler changed to Cfq
Perflock on boot disabled
ZipAlign on boot (First boot will be sort of slow as it checks and zipaligns apk's. From then on it remembers what ones were done and only zip aligns ones that have been installed)
Screenstate scaling of cpu to save battery life
Build prop tweaks to conserve battery and increase speed
Ram optimizations to futher more conserve battery and increase speed (Do not run a task killer it will only mess it up. Multitasking should greatly be increased.)
All system apps moved to ext partition (This allows of live wallpapers and wallpapers to be kept with out hurting for space)
Some other things were also moved to ext. For a explanation on why this was done. Check the why dalvik was left internal with no data2sd.
Market cache for downloads mounted to ram upon downloading and installing. Once installed is is automatically deleted. Which means the only sense rom with 100% working cmtd.
Cmtd setup and fully working.
Before I forget reboot options (Reboot, Reboot to recovery & a few more)
Probably forgetting some stuff also. Once I remember I will update.
Why the rom was done like it was with no data2sd or dalvik moved:
Ok the rom was done like it was for a few reasons. One was for increased memory. Two was for speed. Three was for no dead sd cards. Followed by 4 was to help battery life. With that said we go to data2sd. Data2sd works by moving the data partition to a a sd-ext partition. There is a few different versions. Real data2sd kills cards quick due to reads and writes. Kali's data2sd is a knock off of darktremors apps2sd+. It moves the data/app and data/app-private to sdext. Same thing as darktremors apps2sd+. Darktremor's apps2sd packs more features from zip align, memory tweaking and other things. This should not cause lag like claimed. What will is enabling dalvik-cache to ext. Kali's doesn't support this. So kali's data2sd or darktremors apps2sd+ with out dalvik moved will not be that hard on a card at all.
Now with dalvik moved in darktremor's it causes lag and major read and writes to the sd card. Due to it moves system dalvik. Anytime you open a app or do something it reads and writes to the sd card. This causes battery drain and bottlenecks also. So what I did was a better alternative, since dalvik moved frees up space but causes lag. I left dalvik internal, moving system apps and a few other things to ext partitions. Then creating blind mounts. This allowed me not to remove anything like before or enable dalvik. Yet give the same free space 240mb to be exact. So you get the speed and space. Best of both worlds right?
The other thing is with anything sd-ext. Sd cards have a number of limited reads and writes. Some fail sooner and later. It just depends on the card. With that said the process done is very easy on the sd card.
Files to download:
Caution do not download via the android browser. You will get a 5kb file.
xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2: Click Here
Install instructions:
1. You need to have cwm 3 or above to install this. For working recoverys that will work with this rom check here Once you have that proceed.
2. Follow this step if you don't have a ext partition setup (If previously using apps2sd or data2sd you should have one. So please skip to step 3.)
First you need to back up your card sd card. This means mount your sd card on your computer, creating a folder. Then copying the contents of the sd card to the folder. Once this is done reboot phone into recovery. Once you do that go to advanced>partition sd-card. Pick you sizes for your partitions. I use 1024m/0m. Once that is done reboot your phone.
3. So once booted back into your rom. Copy the files you backup back over. The open the xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2.zip. Extract the contents to the root of the card. This means the sleeksense folder should be in the main directory. Along with the mtdpart text file in the root. If you had one before please replace it. Once done reboot to recovery again.
4. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC1>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2-recovery. Once installed go to Advanced>Reboot Recovery. Once recovery reboots it would be a good idea to do wipe data/factory reset. After the wipe is complete proceed below.
5. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC1>xFuZiiOnZz-HD-RC2. Don't freak on the long install time sense hd is long. If you get no error set and wait. Once it installs and prompts you to reboot. Do reboot system now with in recovery. Now it will take a bit to boot the first time. First boot will be a little bit it will set on the white and green htc screen. Around 3 mins or so. You will then see the htc boot animation where it will also set. Allow 10-15 mins to first boot (After first boot it will not be as long booting) Now if 15mins have passed and you still aren't in the ui. Then redo the above steps for flashing the rom. No need to reformat the card. Just make sure you do a full wipe.
6. First boot will be a little bit it will set on the white and green htc screen. Around 3 mins or so. You will then see the htc boot animation where it will also set. If it booted in the ui. Follow the setup wizard and wait for sense to load.
7. When you call your voice mail or a number that use button presses to select menu's. It will not work. So to fix it go to Menu > Settings > Sound > Feedback > Audible touch tones. Change it from short to long.
For any problems you encounter, have a question or anything else. Please post them at the following link: Click Here or post in the thread here. Be warned it may take me a few days to check it.

I had a little bug this morning where I couldn't press any of the buttons in the drawer. I had to flip around the screens for a while and came back and they worked. I've noticed there's a little lag in the ROM as a whole, like the ROM is too heavy for the CPU or something. It's not major, just a little annoying. Also, I can't seem to pull up the skins browser in HTC Hub. I can use everything else (Scenes, Ringtones, etc) but not skins. Of course it's the only one I actually wanted to use
Other than that, fantastic work as always.
Reports from the other dev's that is trying to help me get 3.0 on the cdma desire along with 3.0 on the merge is that the the skin part of htc is buggy and does the same on phones that have come with it. Along with in the ports.
Even then that would be on the bottom of the list to even fix. As for the lag is it doing it worse as it gets lower on battery by chance? As for it being to much for the cpu 2.0 is more optimized than 1.0. With that said it doesn't lag near as bad and more snappy on our phones.
This was also reported on the merge froyo port. I just glanced at your post and seen you wanted to use the htc skins. Where I am not sure right off what all is on it for skins. But skins found that is for 2.0 should work fine.
Edit: As for your odd issue I am unsure. You are the first to report this. I have had a report of lagging in vid's from 3 people I think it is. Report of the g-sensor not working that a reflash fixed. Then the last was signal bouncing around.
As for all the issues the girls desire has been on this since I ported it cept to do the port of miui. Which I restored the backup of. No issues that I have got or heard about. Trust me I would hear about it The lag in vids I am not sure if she has watched any and I haven't checked. So that would be the only one I can't confirm.
I had to flash back to my stock ROM, this one was just being too weird. Usually around 7:30 pm or so, the data and GPS will just flat out stop working and I have to reboot to get it back. I didn't try toggling data, but it's a hurdle I'm not willing to jump right now. I really wish this worked out, I liked the ROM otherwise.
You could have tried a reinstall or a prl update. But I know that is not the case with the rom as the girls has been running this since I ported it. Where data and gps has worked in the rom since I loaded it.
You also aren't the only one running it where the others the only issue found now is lag playing videos.
link to download unless expired? You can reupload
Been waiting for A Rom like this for months on CDMA!! Thank you Sir!
Only issue I have come across other then a Force close here and there is the Laggy Video
when streaming, Netflix, HulU, Youtube. Videos i have on my sd card work fine! THANX AGAIN FOR YOUR EFFORTS !
Download link was just down due to moving files around. It should be up now I think. I will have to check if the right link is there.
As for the lag video I get it on recorded vid's by the stock cam. Known issue and when I get to it I will try to fix it. Right now I have a few things on my plate till I get caught up.
Are you going to be updating this? Laggy video gets annoying

I don't think this rom will be updated, but both 2fast and coolexe are working on Gingerbread Sense 2.1 roms for the CDMA Desire... you might want to hold out for that.

[APP]Ubuntu Install Guide - Kindle Fire Testers wanted - 12.04 in testing

This thread is no longer kept up to date, for future info/help please use the main thread HERE
I have working on a project in the form of an app, which guides you through the installation of Ubuntu within android via chroot. It includes a ubuntu 10.10 image I have been working on which includes lots of program to allow users to develop program/scripts etc within Ubuntu on there phone/tablet.
However I have I have yet to get much testing on this device and would like more feedback from users!
Please post your device/kernel/rom along with what did and didn't work, so I can draw up what I need to change in the next release of the app/ubuntu build.

Boot Script
ubuntu.sh(V5)
Full Image
This image is 1.5GB to download, once extracted 3.5GB, and include alot of programs like openoffice, thunderbird, firefox and over programs for 'developing' - Also allows you to switch between the LXDE and Gnome desktops, and you can define screen size on boot!
ubuntuV5-image.zip
Lightweight Image - This is yet to be included in an app, will be included in the next release (aka 2.0 ), so get it now before anyone else!
This image is just under 500MB to download, once extracted 2.5GB, and include only programs needed (LXDE desktop, web browser, + other basic programs) also allows you to define screen size on boot
ubuntuV5-sm-image.zip
12.04 images
I have now started work on building new 12.04 images these come in core (just the bear-bones ubuntu) and full (ubuntu with GUI and other programs) and will be updated as 12.04 moves through its milestones (and when I make new updates to the mods I make from the main stream arm port).
These are for testing ONLY until 12.04 reaches stable release.
You can view the images here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxonandroid/files/Ubuntu/12.04/
I also want to build up a small group of testers who I can email with new images and scripts, these will include all future distros that I do. If you are interested in joining this test group please PM me or send a email to [email protected]
The only requirement is that your willing to test and send feedback along with screen shoots etc where required, it would also be good if your willing to try different roms and kernels for your device!

I didn't realize that you had posted in the Kindle Fire forums so please forgive my re-post:
This works quite well on the Kindle Fire with CM7. (I've used both v4 and v5 of the script without issue)
Is there a technical reason for using Ubuntu 10.x over 11.x?
I only ask as there are ARM/OMAP3/OMAP4/etc. builds of both 11.04 and 11.10. (netbook and desktop flavors)
I'm guessing that it's a resource thing as I would hope that Unity would work well with at least tablets if not decently sized mobile phones.
Oh well, just picking brains. Love your work!

Quite alright only just posted.
When I built images from 11.04 and .10 there where a whole host of UI issues, that no one seemed to be able to fix so I rolled back to the newest base that had no issues. Once I have done some more work to the app and my backtrack build I will look at a newer build (or might wait for 12.04)
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but which resolution size would be best for ease of use? I'm assuming higher would be easier to use and look better and lower would be harder to use and look worse?

Many thanks.
Doesn't work on CM7 with firmware 6.2.1 with Root and Busybox installed
Errors when trying to execute ubuntu.sh are
-Whole bunch of missing directories that can't be mounted
-Some directories can't be created because others don't exist
-Can't create directory '/data/local/mnt': File exists
-Loop device exists
-losetup: /dev/block/loop255 on /data/local/mnt failed: Invalid argument
-losetup: /dev/block/lopp255: No such device or address
Edit: I'm using the 1024x600 image and version 5 of the terminal script
I noticed that on CM7 Busybox doesn't play nice with USB data connections. So much so that I have to reboot the device before it'll make the connection once I've run Ubuntu.
Also, and why I mention it, if you have the data cable connected (showing as a device on the PC or not) and try to run the ubuntu.sh it tends to not work.
edit: Don't want to wrongfully accuse Busybox if that's not the problem but once the terminal emu runs the ubuntu.sh then I can no longer make the USB data connection without rebooting the device. (does it with both v4 and v5 of the script)

Yes this is to do with ubuntu not shutting down correctly, and will hopefully be fixed once I have worked out all the bugs in shutting it down
Ok new paid app has been uploaded the change log is:
*PAID app file downloads now use new fast FTP server and support direct downloading (click the button to download a image and it starts to download right away)
*New boot script which has fixed problems with it not booting on alot of devices, and fixed problem which some people getting a grey screen when loading UI
*Boot script now downloaded in zip file to fix problems with downloading script
*Both apps fixed to support low resolutions
*Both apps cleaned up
Because the FTP server costs me money to run these fast download links will only be available in the paid app. As I will only be uploading the 800x480 images to multiupload in the future (to be included in the free app) the images in the first post will stay at V4 (apart from the 800x480) thus if you have a device that has a different screen rez and want to keep up-to-date with image updates now is a good time to invest in the paid app .
The paid app will also be getting alot more work in the close future to make the install process even easier (to hopefully the point of just downloading and pressing a button to boot) some of which will likely not make it to the free version, I am doing this to try and give the paid version more 'buying appeal'...I am after all a poor student and need money to eat and drink
Ramble over, but the future is bright..the future is linux on android
The backtrack install guide has been updated to include the new boot script and downloading from the ftp server, plus everything else to bring it in line with the ubuntu guide.
For those that want the Gnome interface, or to try out all the security programs included in backtrack, or just want to try a different linux distro check it out!

Little update ,the next release while I am working on the automation, and fixing last boot programs will included fixed java etc, with completely new build images (did try building 11.10 but still getting the GUI errors so will hold out for 12.04), and allow you to switch between Gnome and LXDE and also allow you to decide the screen size on boot. Means much less for me to upload and far easier method than opening the init script and editing it.
This looks great zac! As soon as I receive my Fire I'll be happy to test for you.

Glad to hear it
Ok a new test image is ready for download.
This is a updated large image (~3.5GB extracted) with the following updates:
Boot process now asks you for what screen size you want (type in the format 800x480 for example)
Boot process now lets you select what desktop enviroment you want to use (Gnome and LXDE included to start with more to come!)
Image has been recompiled to fix java and other programs
Image has been compressed using a different programs to fix errors when uncompressed in linux
note: this image works fine with the V5 script!
please test and let me know how it goes! if everything works I will update the paid app with a fast link tomorrow!

I know that distro upgrades are a no-no but what about general package updates? Do they stick and will they break things? (I ask as I'm updating them anyways )
edit: Actually if you could comment on persistence in general that would be great as I'm wondering if things can be added/removed or rather how the images work in general. Are they akin to Live images with some space for persistence? (I'm guessing yes as settings do save)

You can do normal updates to packages yes, its only the updating distro that brakes stuff, as things have been changed to the core of ubuntu to get it to boot as it is.
Everything you change will persist, see it as a virtual machine over a live image, within the img file is the complete OS as if the img file is a hard drive etc. This is then mounted and booted into
Sopa strike
Tomorrow as im sure you all know XDA will be having a 12 hour black out and all of tomorrow my sites will be blacked out and I will not be doing any work on my linux projects in protest, if the SOPA and PIPA bills are past then it will be the end of freedom of speech and the internet as we know it.
This would put a hell of a lot of pressure on developers to keep within the 'laws', its very likely this site would face alot of pressure to shut down most of this forum if not the lot.
Thank you all, and I hope you also support the movement! for more information check this site
http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa
totally 100% on board for the opposition of SOPA.
Also wanted to tell you tied this on my Kindle fire running CM7 and it runs great! i set the screen resolution to 1024x565 because the CM7 soft buttons were there. kinda like to keep them but that could just be my personal preference.
tested it on Miui for kindle fire. works even better because of how the software buttons are handled.
