recover the backup made during update process
hmm, how do I get the backup file?
In Zune go to the update page of your phone. After Zune finished searching updates for your phone their should also be a possibilty to restore a backup. You can also use this tool to restore your backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011
The location of your backup is:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\
EDIT: If you don't see a possibilty to restore your backup in Zune & don't see any files in the "Windows Phone Update" folder & don't have a developer unlocked phone & didn't move your backup to any other location: The only two ways to get a developer unlock are:
1. Flashing an older ROM to get back to 7004 or 7008.
2. Register as a developer at Microsoft - this costs money.

okay, I get it now.. thanks a lot..
Result: I flashed with an older ROM, to 7004
can provide link to the 7004 htc mozart rom? thanks.
Please help me!
The story is this... I've updated my phone first to 8112 and I used like 4 language packs, everything was OK, so I did the 8773 update using more languages (I believe six of them) and now I can't access to the about section (no, I cannot do a hard reset) to the WIFI settings, also to the add new email, the thing is that I cant restore it also because zune keep saying to me that I have no restore point in this PC (thats wrong, i DO have one) and theres nothing that I can do...
I've tried to send the language packs in order but the phone keeps telling me "update unsuccesful" So... What can I do? How can I reinstall new software or restore it? HELP PLEASE!

It appears that your phone is in an unstable state (I suspect due to missing language packs sent during the update)
The last generated backup would be at the the following location:
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone
If the backup does exists at the above location maybe try using WPCabSender to do the restore.
Also is it possible that the phone is in a guest sync relationship within Zune? Maybe that could be a reason why Zune does not "see" the backup in this case.
If worse comes to worst, I think you might have to flash it back to your original ROM and start over.
Ttblondey ,thanks a lot....

hi all. I’ve been trying to unlock desire HD for a while and eventually managed to get it sorted.
The info was on this site, but scattered around a bit, so if this is useful (i.e. all in one place) let me know..
Like all these things:
IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE, AND YOU SHOULD ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING...!
IT WORKED FOR ME FIRST TIME. I DID THIS AS AN EDUCATIONAL EXERCISE ON A BRANDED ORANGE UK HTC DESIRE HD PHONE.
This was done with no sim card installed at any point, just a formatted SD card.
First do a factory reset of the phone with an SD card inside, no sim.
Start the phone, and go through the basic setup, by skipping most things, just so you can get to the home screen.
Step 1. Put your device in USB debug mode.
Press 'settings', then 'applications', press 'development', then tick 'usb debugging'
Step 2. Get visionary and install to the phone to do temproot, then permroot.
The apk file you need is com.modaco.visionaryplus.r.14.apk
I will try to upload, if the site lets me. Otherwise a quick search will find it.
Once it is installed to your phone (i used the htc desktop sync tool to install the app) by connecting my phone, select htc sync as the type of connection (as opposed to charge only) then from HTC sync suite (on your PC) select application installer, then select the visionary .apk file.
Once installed, disconnect the phone and power cycle the phone. (With all the power cycles mentioned in this post there is no 'holding of other keys' required)
Once back up, go into settings on the phone and you will see the visionary logo in your list of applications.
Start the application, and you will see the temp root option. Select this, and then come out of the application and power cycle your phone.
Once you do this, and the phone is back up again, go back into the visionary app, and then select permroot option.
Then again power cycle your phone. BTW, i did not select the tick box to make the folders r/w, some instructions said to do this.
Once you have restarted the phone for the second time, it should be perm rooted. To confirm its rooted, you can take the time to install a terminal program, and run an 'SU' command, but i did not bother. I just figured that the permroot worked.....which it did...
OK we are finished with visionary, thanks visionary guys..!
Step 3:
You need to get hold of the 'HD easy radio tool', again, i will try to upload the file.
Basically you need to unzip the zip file to a folder on your PC. Connect your HTC Desire HD, and then select 'charge only' in the phone selection. (i happened leave the HTC sync suite running on the PC, even though it was idle)
Go to the folder you unzipped on your pc and run the desire hd easy radio tool_V2_2.exe. you then get several options to choose. I went the whole way and selected the first option 'super CID,s-off, unlock'
Then proceeded to do it. It took about 30s to 1m. You should get a message that it was successful.
Thanks easy radio tool guys!!
Step 4.
You need a ROM, or RUU file. I chose this one. Its quite a large file and i will try to upload. I got it from this (xda) site, but cant find it now. From what i understand this one is completely 'blank' ie it does not appear to have lots of modifications, and it appears (from what i see on my phone) to be a clean factory rom. I tried to upload, but too big for site. You may need to google it.
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
Connect your phone (again in charge only mode) and then start the 'RUU_Ace....' application on your PC.
It will start an HTC installer application that will try to connect to your phone. It will then show the current ROM you have installed, and confirm that you want to update to the one shown.
Remember to have a good charge in your battery, and don't disconnect during this point, you will brick your phone if you do. Make sure your PC does not go to sleep, and have it on external power if its laptop.
The flashing process takes about 2-5 minutes.
Once complete the pc htc application will tell you all was good.
The phone needs to be rebooted, if it has not done so already, and when it starts up, the phone will be brand new. No orange logos, no orange s/w, and fully unlocked to use any SIM card.
Good luck!
The only thing is using the 1.72 ruu you will lock yourself out of hboot and you missed off eng s-off as you would need this if you decide to flash a different Rom or update the radio
You also will not have root access once flashed as its been explain in the forums including the thread warning do not flash 1.72
The method is good but add the eng s-off and advise to flash 1.32.405.6 not the 1.72
E=Mc2
Thanks, this worked for me first time.
what does the eng s-off mean and will I have any problems with OTA updates?
sorry new to this
Thanks

Eng s-off will give you access to flashing radio updates and other hboot uses and give you complete unlock and access to the phone as for the updates not sure if you will get them now

is it possible to reflash with 1.32.405.6 using this guide or am I stuck because I can't root?
I'm sorry, but lol. You've made a guide which is utterly useless due to the fact you are telling people to flash an official 1.72 ruu. Bad mistake.

Can you get into bootloader which is turn fastboot off in applications then power off then power up while holding volume down and power button keep pressing till phone powers up if it does might have a chance of going back to 1.32.405.6 let me know if it does I will help you get back if I can
Also my guide how to flash radio.img gives the same information here on how to debrand your phone with links to the threads with the tools to use

What makes it worse mate is all he done is downloaded the tools then made a guide then uploaded the tools what could work well if it was the right ruu and included how to do eng s-off which is required
My guide on how to flash radio.img has also got all the info all ready and links to the right threads to do everything you need before flashing anything
So this thread is pointless really the op should have read better

good good
right here goes nothing once again like every one else if you attempt this its at your own risk you can leave the phone as it is if you choose to do so
here is a link to another thread how to downgrade to 1.32 you can follow this guide as there is a high chance it will work but it is difficult to get your head round
but the other option you could try is the way i did it when i wanted to clean my phone of everything i had done including installing custom rom with build 1.72 it did work but it does not work on every phone im told download the signed.exe ruu of 1.32.405.6 from >>>>>here<<<<< 7th one down from top of list
you will need htc sync installed then plug phone in set to charge only
extract the zip folder to the desktop
then run the ruu.exe as you would any other application double click it
follow on screen instructions yes it does take a while and it will wipe your phone of anything you had on it so do a back up of what ever you want to keep
dont forget you can back you contacts up to sd card using people>menu>export to sd card
like i said it is your choice if you use this information i take no responsibility if anything goes wrong but the second option is the way i did it and my phone is running
good luck if you do do it either way let me know how it goes

i dont blame you for saying that mate but to be honest the whole thread should be taken down as it gives false impression and tells ppl to flash 1.72 so in turn losing root

An RUU is a pre-packaged install from a vendor? Do you mean a proper custom rom?
If not, then you will unroot your phone
I have an HTC HD7 Tmobile. and I deployed DFRouter app but I accidently uninstalled the app after switching in router mode. now zune will not recognize the device no matter what I try. I have tried hard resetting, rom flashing, hardware reset. My last hope is a custom rom that has DFRouter added into the apps so when the rom is installed DFrouter gets installed with it. Then I can restore it back to zune mode.
I have tried creating a custom rom using
RUU_Schubert_TMOUS_1.20.531.01_Radio_5.51.09.11a_22.31.50.09_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE
but I get
'OS.nb' has no valid boot sector! Aborting.
Ansar or anyone, who can take out time to create a custom RUU with DFRouter in it, that would be greatly appreciated, it will also help others who are stuck in router mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948497
flash this rom using a gold card , its a test rom from htc and the tools you need are in there .
this is the only way because you can't flash unsighned rom's without a Hspl .
and we don't have a Hspl
I dont have a gold card...
Does it have DFRouter ? the OP of that post does not say anything about DFRouter
it has tools in it where you can put your phone in "modem" or "ZUNE" this is the same as what dfrouter use.
actually he use a modded tool from htc
look for threads with the search button and use the words "goldcard wp7"
okay so i have a kingston 2gb micro sd card reader. the problem now is I cant get the cid for it. I have tried goldcardtool.exe and goldcardhelper.exe. I tried using a usb sd card reader and plugging it directly into the laptop.
help please...
the best way is to use an old wm or android phone to get the cid.
I used an old wince based navigation system to get the cid.
I used "http://psas.revskills.de/" to get it.
I am considering htc hd7 unlock kit by xtc.
http://www.xtcclip.com/product.php?id_product=17
has anyone tried this? i am thinking the sdcard has already been converted into a goldcard.
"actually he use a modded tool from htc "
where can i get the source of this modded tool?
hey ceesheim, are you sure it has the needed tool to bring the phone back in zune mode? some folks are saying it does not have the needed app... can someone please confirm?
*bump*
has anyone tried the dev rom and does it come with the usb mode switch app?
Hi fearlessdolphin

Hey there, first post
I have a HTC HD7 phone on O2. Its current version is 7.0 (7392) and has not been unlocked with chevronWP7 before.
My question is how do i downgrade for 7004 or 7008 so i am able to use Chevronwp7 to unlock my phone?
I have been searching the forms for help and found out it is possible to downgrade using something called "ROMS" so i tryed searching that. But i had no luck finding a tutorial or usefull help on to how to do this.
So please can some one tell me how to do this? i am completly new to it all. So please try to break it down.

I have an unlocked HTC HD7, but don't have a developer account.
I have only just read that installing Mango re-locks your phone.
How would I unlock my phone after installing Mango?
I'm half way through installing Mango lol...
I have registry editor and touchXperience (dunno if they will work on Mango)
I also done the thing to stop the phone being re-locked (the HTC only thing where you install HTC Connection Setup and put the CustClear.provxml on your phone)

Try a search or try reading a couple threads, all of this has been answered already numerous times.
Mango re-locks your phone, and any homebrew apps you have installed will not work once you update to Mango. There is no way to Chevron unlock your phone at all yet. You need a developer account to unlock, and even then, because of new app restrictions Mango introduces, certain homebrew apps (particularly ones that mess the the system itself) will no longer work.
I did read other threads but couldn't make out a straight answer :/
Damn, so you think we're gonna have to wait for Chevron Labs or will someone here crack it?

The Chevron people will not crack it because they are not working directly with Microsoft to offer a cheap solution for non-developers to unlock their phones. Those plans have yet to be announced yet, but its coming soon.
I'm assuming eventually, someone other than the Chevron people will figure it out. They always do.
I have an idea Im going to try out tonight. Dont know if the mango update is gonna delete/move/overwrite the file but if the file is still there from unlocked nodo to mango then it should unlock the phone again after the mango update allowing you to install advanced config and preventing relock and allow max unsigned apps.
Tried to do it this morning but me being stupid forgot to prevent relock when updating nodo. So I ended up just updating all the way to mango and will reflash a pre-nodo rom and try it all again when I get a couple of hours to myself tonight.
As long as the file doesnt get touched, which it might not since all my other stuff was still there after mango though I couldnt use it, I cant see it not working. Though Im not a super techie.
How about the Trick with the HTC Connection Setup? We just need to put the Provxml in the Windows folder before updating and after the successfully Update start the HTC Connection Setup to rewrite the Registry Information!?

Just downloaded from market and works fine. Wasn't under HTC apps though. Had to search for it.
Did you sideload it on before mango? Cuz I planned on installing it from the market when on unlocked nodo.
And I'm gonna give it a go now. I'll report back.
It Worked.... I repeat IT WORKED.
Gonna start a new thread with my custclear.provxml. Ill link to it in a few minutes.
Heres the thread with my custclear.provxml file and a short rundown.

Hi everyone,
I just bought an HTC Trophy and the first thing I always do when I buy a smartphone is format the card and do a clean install of the latest firmware available. On all my iPhones so far ( 3G, 3GS, 4 ) this was an easy thing to do using iTunes, but I haven't found an answer for WP7 yet, although I did find some threads tackling some similar stuff.
So my question is: How can I format my sd and then do a clean install of Mango? And is that even possible? ( I read somewhere that I would have to get 7.0 first )
Thank you so much!

Welcome new wp7 user!!
what Budniu says is that wp7 just need a hard-reset to clean itself...
then sync it with Zune (on your desktop...it's like itune) and you'll be promped to name your phone & it will search for availables updates...that's it.
No need to revert back to 7.0
@Budniu Thanks, I've already done that, I thought there was some other way though.
@NebZoNe Yes that's exactly what I've been doing for the last 5 mins, looks like I'm set to go. Thank you!

Looked at it, I see, thank you. To solve.
