im in Carlsbad, CA and drove out to San Marcos, CA really to go to FRY's. apparently they have 4G out there so got to play around with it a bit. web pages loaded faster, skype worked better... although, I thought it would be faster. here's a speedtest result compared to the 3G i'll probably be stuck with forever:

Speedtest is not always correct and only testing them is not exactly damning evidence that LTE is slow in your area.
I live in downtown san diego and at night i can reach speeds of 30down 10up.
San Marcos and pretty much anywhere above the 52 will not get good speeds because you are not in the Real network converge area. You guys are still considered the extended coverage area. Soon San Diego will be fully covered though, just wait.

I can tell you for a fact that SpeedTest and SpeakEasy are about as wrong as wrong can be. The results can be off by as much as 400% or more. This can be evidenced in practical use. I routinely get ridiculously slow speed test results that simply cannot be accurate because my download throughput could never be supported by a speed so slow. You're simply not going to get downloads of 300 megabytes inside of 2 minutes 30 seconds on a 10Mbit connection and I do that regularly. Actual speeds are more like 30 to 40 Mbit if you're getting 10 to 15 Mbit on a speed test.
I usually run speedtest a half dozen times and ignore the outliers to get a good impression of how it's working.
Understand that in a bandwidth test there are two seperate variables.
1: your connection to ISP
2: the server you are pulling/uploading to/from
Your ISP may be providing YOU with a total of 40/10mbps bandwidth, but if the server you are testing from is hosed and can only give you 5mbps upload, then your download bandwidth looks horrible. If you connect to a boss server that looks at your measly 40mbps and laughs, then you'll cap out your provided bandwidth and get a real result. It all comes down to the server side really for accuracy.
Unforunately alot of the Speedtest app's servers are loaded, quite often. A better test at least for me here in NJ, is http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and connect to the NY, NY server. It usually gives me capped out bandwidth and an accurate assessment of my current true connection capabilities. It also works great on the phone through flash and on my Tbolt on 4G I was getting 36/5mbps on average.
Wait, the OP did total of two speed tests. Is this how you test the network performance? WTF really?

If you get next to Cal State SM it gets pretty distinguishable as much faster than around Fry's, etc... also it seems to be much faster when on the 78. Kicks in at Rancho Santa Fe and runs thru Esco. One of the biggest problems with the LTE is when you are in a fringe spot, like the internal toggle in between 3G and 4G the TBolt is always trying to figure it out if it is not a solid 4G area... To be honest tho, I've spent the day in downtown and Mission Valley to play with it. Half the time 4G isn't working, quarter of the time my phone will freak out and go straight 1X leading to me restarting my phone every 5 mins , but that other quarter of the time it is good and the hotspot is rad. So basically, I'm sayin expect your phone to NOT perform like it is supposed to until they release Gingerbread (or you can root and try to find something that works better) I'm stock froyo, figured it gives me the best chance at having that whole "The phone after my dreamphone"..... *facepalm followed by extreme anger*
p.s.- I've done the speedtest a million times around SD and I'm averaging about what you posted so those numbers are probably right--> please Ignore The Trolls!
People need to realize that data speeds will not always be a certain speed in a certain location. Many factors play a part in what data speeds you get. Just because that's what you got in that area does NOT mean it can't be more or less. Now, I can say I have tried numerous speed tests in San Diego and LTE gets amazing data speeds. During the DAY I have seen 36Mbps download speeds. Like all networks it can vary. I have seen data speeds in different areas and different times from 11Mbps-36Mbps download. Verizon's 3G in these same locations in always under 2Mbps. LTE is way faster, way better. After getting data speeds faster than most people get with home WiFi I don't want to go back to those slower speeds.

I've ran over 600 speedtests tethered to my PC and a few thousand tests on speedtest.net app on the phone in totally different areas of the New York City.
You will never be able to get the perfect picture of what the network performance is let alone by doing a handful of tests. Please be patient when testing and judging the network performance in certain markets.

Ok.... So I got the Mytouch 4G, One of the main reasons for this (small reason) was because when I am at work, all I get is EDGE. Now... I still only get EDGE, And my top speeds at home on my 6th floor balcony are 2.2Mb/.8Mb, which are the same as my Fender mytouch 1.2. I am in West palm beach florida which is a 4g market.
Anyone else care to share their speeds? maybe someone around me lol. I just want to see if maybe there is something wrong, or if there really is no difference.
I'm in Indy here and I normally get around 2.5 - 3.5 mbps downstream. I am in an hspa+ area. Non HSPA+ devices will be just as fast as HSPA+ devices while in an hspa+ area except for the fact that non-HSPA has a ceiling of 7.2mbps.
My personal best is 6.1 Mbps but normally 3-4 Mbps on hspa+
Same as these guys 2-3megs. Saw 6.5 right next to a cell tower, but normally I never see that speed.

I couldn't be happier with the speeds here in Orlando. Be patient, it wasn't always blazing fast around here.
I see an average of 3mb/s down, 1 up in the notoriously congested San Francisco area. My personal best is 5.11 down, 2.1 up. I only drop down to EDGE in a few of the tunnels under SF/Oakland, otherwise it's 3/4G all the time. Pretty happy. Verizon was good, T-Mob seems comparable so far w/ a bit more speed when on 4G (for about $30/month less on my bill). And don't get me started how many million times better this is than my horrible year with AT&T! Ahhh! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

If there was poor coverage in your area in the first place with 3G/Edge, getting a 4G phone isn't going to make you have better coverage. It simply boosts the speed in the area, not the coverage area itself.. You need to have good coverage to take advantage of good speeds. The remedy to your problem would be if they added a tower closer to your home I think.
my best is 4 - 5 in walnut creek but usually its around 2 - 3.

This is incorrect. You see, even though the phone is "capable" of 7.2, it will NEVER reach that. That is a theoretical speed. You would have to be in absolute perfect conditions to reach those speeds. I don't even want to get into that, but lets just say that simply repositioning yourself around the tower alone can affect your data rates. The HSPA+ phones are more capable of higher speeds so they will overall have better speeds.
If your using a Nexus One (a non plus phone) then you will typically top out at 5Mbps, in fact, I know you willl NEVER get better than that. If your on the MT4G, you will typically top out at 10Mbps.
Lets not forget site load either. Now that we have HSPA+ networks, T-Mobile is selling more and more of their 3G and 4G phones and the networks are getting more loaded down therefore your data rates will not peak at 10Mbps during peak hours. Try your data tests during non peak hours (between 12am-5am) and check your results. My tower is at a Middle School. During the day I average 2.5-4Mbps but right now i hit 6.0-6.9Mbps because all the kiddies are home and most people are not on their phone at 11pm.
Wow.... Thanks for the replies guys. Ive heard the orlando speeds are awesome. Im still topping it out 2.8mbps at a server about 20min from me. We just got 4g in this area not to long ago, so updating of the cell towers I do think is in serious need.
Im also thinking the reason for only getting EDGE in my work, is because its a pretty old building, im sure its still lined with lead paint and asbestos lol... Blocking the signal, When I go out side away from it, it goes back up to H. Should probably speed test it when I get to work tomorrow before I go inside.

That is a really good point. In west palm beach, theres... well millions of people unfortunately lol. And tmobile is huge here with stores about every 10- 20 miles from each other. So clogged pipes makes a lot of sense. I will try it a few times through the day. But its 1am here and still getting same speed so lol

Strange that at 1am your still not getting better speeds. Maybe your servicing site hasn't been optimized yet. Or its possible your in a pocket that doesn't work as well (which sucks) but remember I was saying that speeds will be effected at different positions around the tower.
When your talking about download speeds equal to or in excess of cable and dsl EVERYTHING in EVERY way affects the data rates.
I hope the speeds get better for you, but honestly, I don't know what to do with my 7Mbps I have now!

Varies, in the Birmingham area 10 Mbps was the highest down speed I've seen (1 Mbps up seems to be a cap, not sure why), 8 more typical when I got really high speed. At home I had been getting about 0.3 Mbps down, but I just checked it...wait, Y5 turned my wireless back on (I'm dumping it, it is a PITA and a bit buggy), so the 16.2 is from the cable modem (nice). Turning wireless off: 0.85 down, 0.54. Shucks.
I used speedtest.net's flash tester.
Broke my personal best (6.1Mbps) yesterday with a 6.5Mbps and 7.9Mbps on back to back runs.
Varies here in Fort Lauderdale FL. Best was 5 down. But usually 2 to 3 down. Sucks but I came from a unlocked iPhone with only edge speeds on it so I can't complain especially since I'm sure its only due to my area.

WTF is up with that, as usual they act dumb when trying to get help and no call back two weeks after service ticket. Liquid gingersense 1.6. Imoseyons 3.5 kernel on extreme mode. Verizon 2750 battery. I get 50 hours easy with a lot of phone usage.
Gingeritis 3D beta VI, ziggys kernel set at 245/1.344 smartass gov, with script fusion (set cpu can be a big no no with some kernels, and id rather use scripts anyway) . I get 20+ hours with average use on a stock battery.

Pureasoptheory 1.3x modded imo kernel (stock with rom) setcpu at 1222/245 interactive and a profile for less than 30% @745/245 avg is around 24 hours on stock battery with low to moderate use, maybe a couple youtube videos lots of texting a few calls and lots of web browsing.
Edit: about 50% of the time I'm on wifi vs. 4g to clarify.

M0N0LITHTH3ORY straight out of the box, I'm getting close to 20 hours with 20% left for the first time ever. 4g when I'm out and WIFI at home. Like I said in the MONO thread this ROM is the best out there. oh yeah stock battery too. Thanks DT!

I haven't used SetCPU on my Tbolt in a while. My config is in my sig and my settings are implemented through ScriptFusion. The following is the settings I'm using in ScriptFusion. The first image is the clock/voltage settings, the second image is time-in-state. As you see, it spends most of it's time sipping .8 volts or less. As long as I'm not tapping glass like a mad man, eeking out a full day on the stock battery isn't terribly difficult.

Mod-heavy mostly internet jtexting and Facebook with a few phonecalls here and there. GPS off
i use gingeritis 3d, wifi when im home, and when im out, i only activate mobile data if i wanna check my fb or look something up. cpu is usually max 1113600 min 8064000 scaling powersaver, i also use chainfire's nightmode setting when im not actively using my thunderbolt (tested today and seamed to help alot), auto brightness on. at the end of the day on a stock battery i am usually at 20-10%
I flashed the newest radio turned off 4g and am running CL3ANTH3ROY and i got 20 hrs on the charge off of 1.0. Im on 1.1 now at about 14.5 hrs on mod/heavy use with a little 4g use in there.
I know if you do not have 4g in your area all the time turning that off is a MANOR battery saver. If you didnt know go *#*#4636#*#*phone identity, scroll down and choose cdma auto (prl)

I charge mine every night and it makes through the whole day no matter what I throw at it. I keep email on push notifications and gps/sync on all the time. 4G is on all the time. None of those are ever turned off.
Why? Because that's how smartphones are supposed to be used! It's not a marathon race.

Can I just make a quick comment about freq_min, freq_max, and governors? I like to equate them to a car's engine. At idle (freq_min), it's should be just loafing along, doing the least needed to keep things going. At red line (freq_max), it's chugging down the fuel and kicking out all the horsepower possible to haul that ride down the road. And your governor is kinda like your cruise control. You're cruising across Nebraska, not a hill in sight (you're phone is doing nothing) and it's just BARELY tipping that throttle in to maintain. But, you hit Colorado with those big ol' hills, and now it's flooring it, letting off, then flooring it again to get over those hills. Think of those hills like you making your phone do stuff.
Here's my point:
When you set your freq_min to 800MHz with, it's like running your engine at 5000RPM, all the time, regardless of load. Setting your freq_max at 800MHz is kinda like jamming a stop under your throttle so it will never make enough power to pull you over those big hills. The idea of a governor is to throttle the speed up and down relative to the load... kinda like your cruise control. Some could do it better, some have very limited real-world application (performance and powersave), and some are pretty much ideal. It really depends on how the dev has set them up or how you've tweaked them.
I post this because I'm looking at some of the setting some of you are using and I KNOW they could be more efficient. I would encourage you to look at your time-in-state and experiment with your freq_min, freq_max, and gov. As you can tell from mine, though I have my max set at 1.49GHz, it spends VERY little time up there. It's more like the nitrous shot if things get real hairy and the system needs the extra power.
i currently use BURNTH3ORYX V1.5 w/ the MR3.5 (802) radio, also have the 2750mAh battery, and i just use the built in "performance" option. I set it to 'OnDemand' and overclock to 1.5 Jigga Hertz.
for example, last night the battery was at 100% and decided to watch the movie "Return Of The Living Dead" all the way through. when it was done, the battery was at 95%.
Im gonna try my MT4G @ SetCpu 537 max 122min.
Anybody ever try using that daily?

I don't think you'll see much improvement. That rom already gives over a day's battery life.
At some point the phone will take longer doing normal tasks and the length of the task will outweigh the battery saved. It would be interesting to find a sweet spot.

Yea that's what you have to realize. You have to maintain a healthy balance!
I run 1017 ghz smartass. No setcpu or anything. Text practically all day. Phone calls for maybe half hour collectively, game for a good hour or hour and a half, cause I get bored. And a lot of browsing XDA, Fantasy Football, and tracking the packages I order. I'm so happy because with this balance I get everything flying by my fingers and still amazing battery. Running Royal Ginger 3.0 with there Kernel. Amazing! :-D

Possible drawbacks might be WiFi dropouts, sync failures, etc. There is a minimal allowed frequency for a device, and it's for a good reason.
I had trouble when I set the min below 350 (or whatever the exact value is). It gets laggy after a wake up for a few seconds if I go lower. So I'd wake the phone, then have to wait a few seconds to do anything after any click on any icon while it spun up the extra power.
At 350 it was plenty to wake the phone up into a usable state and I didn't notice any lag at all going form 350 to 1000 when it needed the extra power.
Running Cyanogen and using it for 30-45 minutes of calls a day, ample texting, and 30-45 minutes of Angry Birds I get 2 full days out of the battery before I need a charge.
But I also don't leave data on. That was the battery key for me. Data turns on in 2 seconds, so I only turn it on when I need it. If I want to see a website I hit the data button and by the time the browser loads I've got a connection. Since I don't care about instant notifications of email, I just don't need data on all the time so there's no point in using battery life for it. If I ever do need it on constantly, it's available to me and I'll drop down to 1 day of battery.
Same settings and about the same battery life here on CM7 with demonspeed kernel. The smartass governor with 122/1017 works great

Rate this thread to express how you think the OnePlus 5's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

WiFi is absolutely horrible for me compared to my Exynos Galaxy S7 and Snapdragon Galaxy S8, any walls in between and packet loss becomes an issue and the signal deteriorates a lot when I'm in my bedroom, with my S8, I have full bars, about 400Mb/s speed and zero packet loss. With the OnePlus 5, I get about 130 Mb/s and about 5% packet loss.
Even in full range I get about 600Mb/s on the S8 and 300Mb/s on the OnePlus 5.

Interestingly, I found OP5 for me to perform the same, if not slightly better than my brothers S8. I tested a 5GHz network and both devices appeared to have the same bandwidth (reading Signal check Pro readings in dBm and thresholds.) Maybe I'll need to do a more thorough test though.
Needless to say. It is 100% better than the 3T wifi performance due to 2x2 MIMO support.

Also what i don't like about the wifi is that it drains more than many other devices(old devices). In idle or in use.
some times i get poor wifi connection with dead slow speed even when i am close to the router
Horrible speeds even with full bars, most of the time it slows to a dead crawl 1-5 KB/s if I'm lucky, on the 5GHz band.
I usually have to turn off WiFi then turn it back on at least 2 times for it to come back alive, even then I get terrible speeds @ work where there's gigabit AC WiFi, which will be 5 MB/s max on this phone.
Even after the 4.5.7 update, WiFi is still garbage on 5GHz, 2.4 GHz is 'just OK' compared to what I'm used to with my Moto X pure.
Really thinking about RMA'ing the device. Honestly, I should've just returned within the 15 day window now that I think about it...

I have nothing to say about Wifi except that it is working excellent.
Full speed 100/100 with a thin wall between the router.
Also, outside the house I get way more strength than my previous phone (LG G4)

4.5.8 - FreedomOS - 5ghz ; MCS256 - HT80 width. Works pretty good (I can probably get better upstream results if I do it off the internal network only rather than going via my Fibre connection.
tl;dr - 411.3mbps rx, 90.37mbps tx.

I am on the official 4.5.8 firmware. All stock!
And have you run a Wifi Site-scan recently? It's more than possible you've had neighbors add/change wireless bands around since you put your stuff in. I generally do a site scan everymonth and tweak my frequency choices to avoid collisions where possible.
It's not about that! There are not that many networks nearby, and the wifi channel is not crowded!
And on same wifi network i get much better wifi battery consumption on a good old nexus 5 (about 3x better)
Wifi issues.
Received my device yesterday. Updated to latest 4.5.8. Facing wifi issue. My 100mbps connection is shown as 40-50mbps in my device while it's recording full speed in other devices. Also I lose 5-6℅ battery overnight which sucks. Hope oneplus team fix it via ota update
Next to my router I get my 100mbps which is the speed that comes to my house
My connection is 150/150 Mbps and I used to get 150/5 on the OP5. My OPO actually had full speed so it was not my router. After some talks with OP support and 4.5.10 that fixed IPv6 connections my speed is now about 150/140. Although I didn't realize 2.4 GHz was so slow at around 25/80? I don't know what to say about that.

It may be because of manufacturing defect. Everybody who has purchased OnePlus 5 complains about the network issue. Check here; forums.oneplus.net/threads/wifi-issue-with-oneplus-5.555048
Rate this thread to express how you think the Google Pixel 2 XL's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?

WiFi strength isn't as good on this phone as it is with the original XL. I have both and notice a big difference. Not sure what's going on. I get better performance with WiFi off. Wth
Just got the 2XL and it has way more problems staying connected to my 5GHz network in places that my original XL had no issues.
WiFi is worse than the original Pixel. Mine keeps saying signal lost and has to reconnect.

Haven't noticed any issues with signal strength. I do have my FiOS router on one end of the house and a 5GHz repeater on the other end. Haven't done speed tests but it was noticably faster restoring apps compared to my Nexus 5X.

My cell signal seems similar to other phones but wifi is a bit faster than my s7 edge. Even though the measured speed seems similar to other phones I will say everything seems much much faster. I was installing apps literally almost as fast as I could push the buttons. Setting up this phone and installing all of my apps was significantly faster than any other phone I've used.
5GHz 80MHz has been great so far, 300Mbps easy.
Has anybody done any digging on this issue? Any thoughts on whether it's a hardware or software issue? I have a 2XL running 8.1 beta, I get constant slow browsing performance on WiFi, apps saying they're having connectivity issues, etc. Running multiple speed tests on my home connection I get an average of 11 down / 1.5 up. My girlfriend has a Pixel 2 (non-XL) running 8.0. She gets 85 down / 10 up on the same network and no performance issues.

What routers do you guys have? I have a Frontier FiOS Arris one and a TP-link repeater working well with my phone. 50/50 and getting nearly that from both. Directly next to the Arris definitely gets it.

Your nighthawk might be limiting your bandwidth.
I have 40 mbps plan for download but when I test on pixel 2 xl using speedtest app it says max is 15 or 16 mbps but when i try to download something from play store then it is drawing about 3.5 mbps which is what my other devices get

I have bunch of questions to get more details on your situation. First, how are you estimating your Play Store download speed? You're not mixing up mbps with Mbps right? Also, how far is your router from where you're testing your phone? Are there lots of walls or another floor in the way? Do you have a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz router?
I have a 50/50 FiOS service and get it fine about 100 feet away from the router because I use 5 GHz, have a range extender, and it helps that my house is 1 floor.

I have a 2.4ghz one and i am sitting on top of it and testing my every other device draws about 38 mbps
And yes I'm not confusing them lol
In playstore I see the download progress and see how much it is downloading and can assume about 3mbps+
