[Q] Problem installing Radio on Sensation (installation aborted) - HTC Sensation

I'm running a custom rom (insertcoin 2.2.2) V7 kernel and it is preferred to run with a new radio..10.56 or something.. It's downloaded and on my sd card. Can i not just flash it from there? Any help appreciated!

Do you have ENG S-OFF? If you have SHIP S-OFF, it won't work
Swyped from my HTC Sensation

Pretty sure i'm s-off. Pretty new to this stuff

Well, there are two different S-OFFs (I mentioned them above). Go into bootloader (volume down + power, make sure you disabled fastboot or take out the battery) to check.

Crap, I misunderstood your question. If you have it on your card, then yes, you can just flash it normally (also read my first post)

ok so i booted it that way and it basically found, and updated it for me. Thank you!!! Looks like it was Ship S-off?? I was trying from clockwork before. Hmm. I don't know if there's a simple answer.. But whats the difference?
Also, where can i find the "Thanks" button??

Maybe I was wrong when I said that you can't install a radio with SHIP S-OFF. Oh well. At least you succeeded
Thanks is next to quote button

Clockwork is the recovery... the other way is via fasboot. Type it on google its the easy way of learning. Have fun with flashing roms...

You don't flash a radio from recovery.
File must be named PG58IMG.zip. No other name will be ok.
Next, do a MD5 check, because a corrupt file will brick your phone. Correct MD5 should be posted st the source. There are a few ways to check, buy the easiest is with Astro. Long press on the file, then select "details". In a few seconds MD5 will appear. Check it against source.
If ok then make sure it your PG58IMG.zip is on the root of your SD card.
Boot into bootloader (not recovery). It should ask if you want to update. Press the volume up to accept. Wait until update is done. Don't press any keys. Don't pull the battery. If you do, you're out $600.
Reboot, and enjoy your new radio. Make sure you don't leave the PG58IMG.zip on the root of your card, phone will constantly try to update.
You should then load the matching RIL. That should be a flash in recovery, but you have to mount system before you flash, and unmount it before you reboot.

YOU MUST HAVE ROOT+S-OFF BEFORE THIS WILL WORK. if you are not already s-off, this will not help you.
Here is a file for you. its magic.
need to send your phone back to sprint?
want to go 100% back to stock and start the root process over again?
download the file onto the root of your sdcard.
go to bootloader mood (vol down + power)
when it asks you to press vol up to update, press volume up.
success
have winrar and dont want to erase your bootloader or your Recovery?
simply download the file and delete recovery+Hboot from the inside (do not unzip).
*make sure after you run this PG06IMG.zip to rename it to anything else (like aPG06IMG.zip) or it will ask you if your want to update every time you go to Bootloader and not allow you to fastboot or recovery.
THIS WILL MAKE YOU LOOSE ALL PERSONAL INFORMATION ON YOUR PHONE.

Check the file system of your sdcard. Sdcard that came with phone uses a FAT filesystem, which bootloader does not recognize. use a computer to format your sdcard (or use recovery to format sdcard) to exfat or fat32 to clear this issue.
Formatting will wipe your sdcard so make sure you back it up first :)

Edit: Phone was not rooted, I'm trying to revert back to 2.2 after the phone was upgraded to 2.3 (before I bought it today). Maybe that's why it's not working for me. I downloaded the file from two different mirrors just in case I managed to grab one that was corrupt.

it's not bricked.... power off the phone then press and hold the power key and the vol down key at the same time til you see the HBOOT screen. vol down until RECOVERY is highlited then press power. That will bring you into Recovery mode. now wipe data/factory reset... then wipe cache partition.. then go to advanced and wipe Dalvik Cache... go back to mounts and storage and format system...
after all that then go back to install zipfrom sdcard and reinstall miui that should do it
Im not going anywhere so I'll be here, let me know how you do
Ouch. That sucks. Don't worry though, there is hope.
What you will have to do is remove your SD card and download a stock RUU and it will flash in Bootloader. Unfortunately I believe it will unroot you. I am not positive on that though. I will post a link so you can be reading a little more about it, we helped a guy thru this the.other day, but he wasn't rooted. Should be the same process though. You'll want to wait until we know exactly what to do because this is your one shot before you got a fancy paperweight. I have to run to atnt for a minute. Start reading so you'll know a little more of what is going to go on, and hang tight. Someone else may step in before I'm back, but you can start familiarizing yourself with the process shortly.
This fellow was pricked during an OTA update. About the same steps will be taken...

I've gotten the same thing in the past when updating sense via HTC on a rooted rom lol.... it's most likely a bad flash sometimes you just have to reflash a rom but Im 99.9% sure it's not bricked

Yeah, thats not the case here, i've done that multiple times and it remains the same.
search around on here for a stock rooted rom in PD98IMG.zip form There may be one inside the hack kit but cant remember. put it on your sdcard boot into bootloader by holding volume down and pressing power. let it search for the update. hit volume up to confirm update after it finds it. If you can access hboot your not bricked take a deep breath and relax

you have a micro sd card reader on your computer ?
Here's a link to gb stock rooted. Look at post 4. Credit goes to gene for the file.
To flash you will need a way to transfer files to your SD card.
Download the file and rename to PD98IMG.zip. boot into hboot it will scan and ask you to apply the update.
If you can't transfer files try the ruu exe. Version you downloaded.

CWM broken, need help

So here's the situation. I've been running NoSensi 1.0.4 ROM w/o problems for the past month but all of a sudden tonight my phone started to freeze up. I would take the battery out and turn it back on but after a few minutes the phone would freeze up again. So I decided to try to flash the new version on NoSensi (1.0.8) and the first step was to flash the NoSensi_EXT4_Wipe and it was almost complete in CWM when it froze up and wouldn't respond. Waited a few more minutes to be sure it wasn't just taking a while so I took the battery out and went back into recovery. In CWM, I see the menu options but when I try to select install from SD, the CWM menu would reset every few seconds and leave me at the main screen.
So now I'm stuck with a phone that won't boot cause I don't have a proper ROM on and can't install a new ROM cause CWM is messed up.
Any ideas on how I can reinstall CWM or something?
First off, can you boot to hboot? And next do you have adb set up on your PC or Mac?
I'm gonna be honest with you, I can't really help you all the way but can give you the things you need to get started. And if anyone reads this and knows more about this please help thanks

Yes, I believe I can get into HBOOT, I get the white screen where the option of going into recovery of HBOOT. I do have adb on my PC, but don't know how to use it unless I have instructions.
Okay I remember going through the threads and saw something on using the PD98 img that has the recovery img inside instead of the system img. Ill look around but probably in the morning since its almost 2 for me. Or if someone knows what I'm talking that'd be great

I built a recovery PD98IMG for a user yesterday. It is the recovery I've been using since I rooted. It is v3.0.2.5 with offmode power mod, but It doesn't have any EXT4 support (don't get me started on EXT4).
CWM Recovery v3.0.2.5 in PD98IMG format:
http://hoxnet.com/droid/PD98IMG_cwmrecovery.zip
Rename to exactly "PD98IMG.zip" and place it on the root (top level directory) of your sdcard, then boot to HBOOT and it should pick it up and prompt you to install.
I'm worried that there may be some hardware problem with your device if it keeps freezing up like that. It might just be a loose battery or loose sim holder, but it might be worse. I'd try to install a stock RUU just to be sure. You can install this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191793
It is completely stock and you'll lose root, but not S-OFF so re-rooting is easy. You can instead, install my rooted version of this ROM too. Identical to stock except that the system and boot images are properly rooted and busybox is installed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16118438#post16118438
If you must send it in for repairs and need to restore to factory settings, I have a tool for that too:

Good luck and I hope it's just firmware related.

Got CWM back with this, thanks so much! I tried doing the same method that was mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019868 but kept having issues with CWM resetting every 2 seconds which didn't allow me to use it at all. Your file worked and am flashing a ROM on now. Hopefully the random freezing was just random so I'm just going to do a fresh install of a ROM

HTC warranties the device for a year. I don't think any Inspire is a year old yet so you might want to call them first. Even if not covered by warranty, HTC is pretty reasonable on repairs.

So I tried reverting back to stock via the PD98IMG method with both the gingerbread and complete stock in the post you mentioned. Both them it updates fine but on the reboot it just hangs on the white htc screen. Any recommendations? Would HTC warranty if it's stuck like that?
It sounds like a hardware problem to me. The first and most obvious sign that a phone has been rooted is the S-OFF in the HBOOT screen. They probably won't warranty it if this is still set. Unfortunately, you need a functioning phone to get to the point that you can re-apply S-ON. I'm really not sure what advice I can give you at this point.

Missing CWM / No Recovery
Through a long string of mistakes, I'm stuck with an Inspire that will not load Recovery (just get black screen with phone icon and red exclamation point).
This thread was the best match I could find. I used the method above (renamed Gene Pool's file to PD98IMG.zip, placed on SD root), but HBOOT does not seem to find it during the startup scan.
Here is what I've got:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0007
I've tried 2 different SD cards - I got into this mess because radio updates were not being found in PD98IMG.zip files either, so feel like its an HBOOT problem.
Any ideas?

If you are sure you renamed it correctly (Windows didn't mangle the name with its stupid "hide extensions" feature) and you are S-OFF, then the only other thing it could be is a bad or weak SD Card. Do you have a spare to try?
I solved this. Figured it was not reading my SD cards so I reformatted one (FAT32), redid everything, and was able to re-flash CWM. Bizarre, since the same card has been used successfully several times on this phone.

[Q] Softbricked my HTC Inspire 4G.. Please help!

Hello! Can someone please help me? I think I softbricked my Inspire. It will boot (hboot) to the white screen with the 3 little androids at the bottom. When I pull the battery out and hold down the down button and power it loads into hboot but I can't go up or down to go into recovery mode or etc. It will load the PD98IMG.ZIP but after then it goes to the next screen where the other stuff at to load before I can reboot, for ex. splash 1 splash 2 and all the other stuff, but it doesn't load or anything. Oh yeah my phone is s-off . Please help me get my phone back working so I can put this new rom on there. I haven't had this problem before until now. Thanks a lot!

Oh yeah my phone is s-off . Please help me get my phone back working so I can put this new rom on there. I haven't had this problem before until now. Thanks a lot!
It says this when I'm in hboot mode:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0019
MICROP-0438
eMMC-boot

There has been sooo many threads based on this its not funny, did you even try to search? I don't understand why there is a distinction between soft and hard bricks. A brick is a brick, if you can boot into HBOOT the word brick should not be associated with your phone, soft or hard is reserved for ice scream.
What PD98IMG are you talking about? are you sure you grabbed the right PD98IMG rom file? If you have a SD reader delete the PD98IMG you have on there now and follow the link I provide. They will give you stock ROMs that either have been named PD98IMG that just have to be put onto the root of your inspire or you have to rename the file PD98IMG. Flash in HBOOT and reboot, install Rom Manger and then flash either CWR or 4ext or whatever tickles your fancy and boot into recovery and flash as normal. I have had the same problem you have had and these PD98IMG worked for me.

Ok. Did you have to make a goldcard or did you just put the zip on your sd and reboot it pressing down button and power down and it did the rest from there on its own?

Please, please, please, please, pleaseeeeeeee!!!! read and do your research. Take the time to educate yourself before you truly brick your phone. I can't even believe that you rooted your phone if you're asking me this kind of a question. I'll spoon feed this to you once, the goldcard is only used to downgrade and gain the exploit to root. I'm not 100% sure if the newest version still requires the downgrade but nonetheless after you've rooted the goldcard is useless, you don't need it. Again, please search! the issue you're having has been covered literally like 3 times this week in 3 different threads. I'll spoon feed it to you just this once, but please be aware this is a DEVELOPMENT SITE, and not I'm really lazy and can't search for my help site
Go to one of those threads I provided in the link. Download the RUU file. If it's already named PD98IMG.zip, simply place it on your SDcard (I'm guessing in your case it's still your goldcard which is your SDcard). If it is not exactly named "PD98IMG.zip" rename the downloaded RUU to "PD98IMG.zip" exactly like that and place in on your SDcard (GOLDCARD). From there press the volume up and and power at the same time to boot into HBOOT. Once in Hboot, hit the power button and follow the commands. HBOOT will scan for that PD98IMG.zip file, flash it and you will have a working stock rooted ROM to start all over. If you have another PD98IMG.zip file other then the one downloaded from the provided link, delete it. If your phone isn't being recongized by your computer, you'll need a SDcard reader to delete and add zip files to your SDcard. All of this could have been found by searching. Don't be lazy, help us help you by helping yourself to the search button
Take out sd card. Boot into hboot. Scroll down to recovery but don't press. Put sd card back in and then enter recovery. Be sure to get rid if pd98img if you are going to boot into recovery through hboot.

Ok thanks Gizmore for not being smart about it I have another phone (Samsung Infuse) and gave this phone to someone, so I'm trying to fix it for them. Again thanks for not being so smart about it.

I got tired of reading all that stuff, wanted some that would help me get it done quick and fast, and apparently this bull crap isn't working either. Sigh! I will never root another phone... It's just too much!

Your problem is very simple. The pd98img that is on your sd card will not allow you to access the hboot menu. You have to remove the pd98img if you want to enter recovery via hboot. The process I told you will skip the pd98img check and let you select an option. You have to boot into hboot though without the sd card in your phone and then pop it back in once you are able to navigate through hboot menu.
If you have a card reader you can remove it that way. If you are able to boot into your rom then you can remove it that way too.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
@ Gizmoe ok, thanks! I've tried that and more methods still no luck. I still can't select anything with the pd98img.zip being off the sd card and I still can't select any when the sd card isn't in the phone at all. Sigh... When in hboot without sd card inserted in the phone I still can't scroll up or down at all, and the hboot and fastboot are highlighted in blue. Under fastboot it's recovery, factory reset, simlock, and image crc... I can't scroll down to none of them though. Any other method to try getting it into recovery? Thanks
Try backing up your sd card. Reformat sd card, and then put a Rom on card and then try hboot again.

Don't get butt hurt when you're openly being lazy on a development site. Don't get defensive when I tell you what you should be doing and still give you the advice you were looking for, whether or not it worked. I find it hilarious that people just like you think, "ooooh I see these threads even when I'm making this pointless one but I'm tired of reading...blah blah blah" If that's the attitude you have towards rooting and this development site in general, re-read the rules here at XDA. I'm not trying to be a jerk (regardless how you take it) but when you signed up to XDA you agreed to the terms and to adhere to rules of XDA.
The only other way to boot into recovery is through adb I think, I've never had to do it but I think there is a way to do it that way. You can always hit up Attn1's IRC chatroom, can't say they will be more receptive but they always seem to have someone in there that knows every trick.I wish I could provide more insight towards adb but I never had to or wanted to use it.

Can you boot into rom? If not how far does it get. You may be able to use adb from blanked screen. Also are you even able to navigate through hboot menu or is it just frozen?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
No, far as I get is to the screen where it is hboot, fastboot, recovery, and etc. I can't scroll to none of them, so it's like it's frozen. I tried putting a custom rom on sd card after I formatted it, even tried different sd cards and still the same thing. So I'm stuck on the screen with the 3 little androids on the skateboard. I stayed up till 6 dis morning searching and trying different stuff, but still can't get past that screen. when I try plugging the phone up to the pc the phone screen is black and I can't do anything, but when I unplug it it'll boot into hboot. I have a card reader btw if that helps anything. Thanks!
Download this and put on root of sd card and boot into hboot. It may let you select yes after parsing a file
s on pd98img
Use the gb version
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
My phone is s-off... Do I download the froyo one or gingerbread? Sorry c where u say use gb version... When it's done downloading do I rename it or just leave it as is?
Yes the gingerbread. This will return you to stock everything. You can root again from there or just leave it as is if you don't want root anymore.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Get rid of all text in name except the pd98img part.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Ok thanks! I'll let you know how everything goes. Leave the file name as is right or change it to PD98IMG.zip?

[SOLVED] I tried to root my phone, but...

I used revolution to root my phone, I think it work (havent put any type of rom in it yet); but then i decided to upgrade it to ice cream sandwich. and when i tried to install ice cream i am getting this blank black screen with white triangle sign and yellow exclamation mark + blue droid robot. Any idea what going on? If the operating system is installing properly, how long should I be seeing this screen? I read somewhere that this is a system loading sign, but how long is it going to be like this (must be at least 40 minutes already)
>> download root checker to find out if have or have not root your phone.
-So first question would be, if the phone is root. Can I upgrade it to ice cream sandwich like normal? Or I have to do something else.
>> while doing rooting, dont mess around with OTA update
-I am in a sorta of limbo right now, because i havent figure out what rom to put in. And then opt to upgrade instead. What my best option?.
>>very helpful

>>just backup everything and pray! j/k
do everything twice if you have too, and make all the mistakes along the way; that how some of us sorta learn.
Please help ASAP. My phone is in limbo right now!
>>not anymore, , thank you everyone for contributing!
and if at some moments you feel this is sorta over your head, try to get a hold of one of those experts who do up these ROM. They should know these things inside out.
Thank you

Do you mean OTA ICS or a custom Rom ICS?
Hmm if it is the SECOND one you should try booting into recovery via the hboot screen. From there you can wipe data and restart. If the fault occurs again well I have no idea
If you meant an ICS update from HTC then you need to redlash the stock recovery.

It's not that bad, you only have to supercid then flash new firmware once when going to ics. Then its just wiping and flashing

I wish I can say I understand these steps, but it is getting more and more convoluted! any link to a page with steps by steps instruction? kinda feel like i am going into unchart water.
Most Ics Roms require 3.32 firmware and gb Roms require a different firmweare. Most people prefer Ics which is Android 4.0.3 . Once you have the correct firmware is quite a straight forward process. If your S off, you will place the Rom at the root of your sd card. I do this buy downloading to my computer, using my phone as a removable disk drive and copying the file to my device. It goes directly to root not into a folder. Then I enter into my recovery, i love 4ext touch recovery because it has more options and is easy to use. I do a nandroid backup of my current rom, incase something goes wrong. I. Use 4 ext for the backup also. Then I do a full wipe usually wipe data factory reset, then I wipe cash and dalvick cash then I install zip from sd card and reboot. This is how I install a Rom. After flashing it WILL take some time for the first boot so don't worry if it takes a few minutes sometimes. Then it will say Android is upgrading then it will boot into your new rom
I hope this helps you some in the steps to flashing a rom.please remember firmware is very important. Have fun flashing.

Your very welcome, remember this is just the steps to rom flashing. You FIRST must be rooted and S Off to use the procedures. Don't worry too much because once rooted and S off if you get in a pinch flashing you have your backup. But remember correct firmweare is very very important. Hope I've helped you out a bit in the rom flashing area

i believe i am already root and s-off. when you said i have a backup? what backup?!
how do i figure out what firmware i got, and which version is the correct one?.
i think i am going with the ICS route.
Here's some more information:
I downloaded a ROM Manager through marketplace, and when I tried to run it. I get the following error message: "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at '/system/bin/su' or '/system/xbin/su'. Use google search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone"
I also downloaded Superuser app, and when i click on it, it open up but it said 'no apps in list'!
I downloaded Titanium backup, but when I tried to run it. I get the following error message :"Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and include BusyBox, and try again. This attempt was made using the 'su' command"
I download the ruu file ('RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed) , tried to run it; and the computer ask what program should i use to open it!?
thanks.
You can download root checker to verify your root it will let you know if root was successful. Ics uses 3.32 firmware. I aquire backup by going into 4ext recovery, manage backup, new backup, backup system. What recovery are you using ? Usually you can backup from recovery. You can download correct firmware in search or usually the rom site will also have the firmware in Android development. Hope this answers some of your questions.

so now what?!
OK...
Pull out the battery...
Replace battery
Hold Volume Down and press power button while still holding volume down.
That will give you the fastboot menu.
Write down what is written in upper left of your screen. (Or take photo).
EDIT :
See attachment, this is what you must have before going a step ahead.

Ok now this is fine.
You don't have root, usually when the line Openxxx is missing it's because you don't have root privileges.
Now download this recovery Recovery PG58IMG.zip
Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card.
Turn off your phone by removing again the battery and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen like you just did to gave me your infos.
Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update" DON'T STOP the processus until it give you the option to reboot.
Press Power to Reboot
Delete PG58IMG from your memory card.

No. Please take the file from the multiupload link I just gave you. Take this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17173579&postcount=86
The root of your SD card is the very first view you see when you open the SD card e.g. path of SDcard -> E:\PG58IMG.zip (don't create a file just paste the file there)
This is the root of your SD card.
what the point of downloading this img file and running it?
what do i do after this?
Sorry I felt asleep at the computer...
This PG58IMG is for installing the Recovery.
