aldiko is better than kindle and adw launcher is better than launcherpro but besides that great list
Arcus Dictionary i think is better then Dictionary.com, it doesnt require a Data plan to do look ups and is very fast
launcherpro is ok, zeam is better imho.

Having tried both, and several others (Zeam, Sweeter Home, and touchwiz) I stuck with Launcher Pro. Personal preference.

True. Launchers are completely down to personnal preference
Thanks for the list! I'll have my first Android phone (Captivate) coming in the next day or two so this will be very handy to refer to!
Thanks for the list! I just got a notice from VZ that I'm eligible for an upgrade (over a year early, so I guess they're really trying to sell those already unavailable Droid X and Incredibles...), and I'm planning on getting a new Android phone to replace my HTC Touch Pro2. Now I'll have a list of a few apps to try out!
Besides Dolphin browser, I would reccomend xscope. It is a free alternative to the regular browser and is pretty much just like Google chrome. Even set up to look like it. Not as much in the customization area as dolphin, buy definitely very easy to use, and most definitely faster.

I can't find Pandora Radio. Does it still exist?
Pandora radio is still on the market, if you can find it then use the link provided below to install it. You will need to use a barcode scanner app to scan the barcode. Once this is done it will take you directly to the app on the market and you'll be able to install it.

I agree, but Federico's work needs some work before its perfect.
Xiialive a lot better streaming music app than pandora, last.fm, or slacker. Pick from over 100 channels on shoutcast. So, less repetitive than the previous mentioned apps.
good list!
I like Gmote for streaming music from my home PC to my phone. You can do it over data connection (3g and 4g) or LAN. The only shortcoming is that it won't stream remotely via wifi, only LAN.
It also works as a remote control for your PC. Great for media servers!

If they can't find it on the market, another link to the market won't help. Could be Pandora is protected and their phone isn't showing protected (and likely paid) apps.

Hi all,
We're developing a small completely free application named aMetro.
It shows the maps of transit systems all over the world in OFFLINE – subways, buses, trains, and other. You can find the right route between stations and estimate travel time (of course, if map contains appropriate data about travel time between stations).
As data source we're using a collection of maps from pMetro project (it's a desktop application for Win32 systems on Russian language, you can download it from www.pmetro.su). It is a very detailed maps collection of Russian cities, but also contains not-perfect (but still useful) maps of the biggest cities all over the world.
Current features are:
Offline transit system maps of about 180 cities (with different details, of course)
View maps for other kinds of transportation.
Zoom maps.
Find the shortest route between stations.
Support multilanguage interface.
Update maps automatically.
Find the nearest station (currently for Moscow and St. Petersburg only).
Zoom with multitouch.
Nearest future plans:
Get information about stations.
Select station (and create routes) by touching map.
Map editor
Our project site: www.ametro.org
We need help with translation our application from russian+english to other languages. Also, we need help with data collection and map fixing.
Your help will be highly appreciated!

Yes, they are both contains metro/subway routing.
But aMetro works completely offline, and contains map views and some other userful information.
This will be perfect for when I go to Japan in October, will keep an eye on this, thanks!
new version released
1.0.8: added French localization, fixed some minor bugs
Brussels Metro. Redesigned and Updated map + GPS
We completely redesigned map of the Brussels Metro. Now it is up to date (Wikipedia), added 2 lines of the tram and GPS-coordinates of the metro stations. Now "Where am I?" function is available in Brussels.
If you configured check for updates and auto-update of the maps, wait for it, or update the online catalog from the menu manually and apply the updated maps.
P.S. If you want to enable "Where am I?" function in your city please contact us. We'll say how to collect and format a file with GPS coordinates to use with this programm.
I like the offline possibility. Very nice project!
Great project!! Very useful indeed.
I loved the app. Until now it works well on my HTC Desire. I liked the way its organized and the features on it. Everything worked out of the box in a pretty simple way.
Maybe you could add an option to show station name in local language so local purple could understand when we show them where I want to go

We could add "default language" option in settings, but we don't have enough resources to add native localizations to entire set of maps.
We going to create map editor in future, so people could add native localization by yourself
Vienna U-Bahn
Updated map of Vienna U-Bahn - added 6 new stations.
Hi, I've downloaded the app and it looks very nicely. However, is it possible for users to contribute to the development of maps. For instance the Rotterdam metro map can be expanded with the new names for the different lines (A,B,C,etc), some new metro stations were constructed, but maybe also to include tramlines? The same goes to The Hague and some other cities I know about.
I've downloaded pMetro and pMetroEditor, but the UI-language is - I guess - Russian. Is there a better working English version of the tools, or you want to keep the development of maps limited to the original developers?

You could send us detailed change list or link to information about it. Or you could send it directly to author of pMetro.
Or, if changes are simple enough - you could make they in simple text editor.
These maps have very simple text format. We have an instruction on russian and its english draft, so we can publish it if anyone could help us to complete it.
We're going to create map editor in near future, after we add multitouch and selection stations on map in aMetro application.
If anybody wants to create editor - we'll give any information required about the map format
P.S. We sent an email to Boris, author of pMetro, about english localization of map editor.
Version 1.1.0 released.
Changelog:
Multitouch zooming;
Zooming using volume controls;
Move application to SD supported;
Trackball speed setting;
Added resources for WVGA/QVGA screens;
Find and Auto-Complete take into consideration with diacritics and ligatures;
Trackball scroll speed settings
does it have singapore maps?
Yes, there's a map of Singapore.
It may be outdated because we don't have resources to support maps, all of them created by different people outside of our team.
If you find any errors - please send us a description, and we forward they to the developer of map

in future we plan to create a map editor, so anyone could update or create new maps
p.s. these maps - isn't maps like google maps. they contains only transport lines and stations

Would like to see a map editor to edit / update some maps. Tried the original version, but unable to do anything with it.
Used to work on maps for a WM-project called CityAdvisor (http://www.cityadvisor.net/) but unfortunately it seems this project is dead (at least still no android version).
So if i can waste some of my time on aMetro.. great

What would make an app "sellable" (if that's even a word)? What kind of features would you be willing to pay for? I would like a few ideas so that I can make a paid version of at least one of my apps. Thanks in advance
Depends:
- Is your app unique?
- Do you have competition?
- Is it the best at what it does?
- Is what your app does already provided by someone else for free in the same quality?
Would you pay for it?
If you have a free app with alot of happy users you could also provide a donate version with some minor improvements.
I.e. good free app with ads sold as pro version without ads.
questions to ask yourself does it serve a purpose? would I use it? do people already have it?
Its a weather app "Legacy Weather" and it's in the market. It takes features of some apps I have on my iPod and some apps on my phone and brings them all together, at least that's the idea anyway. Check out the app and let me know what you guys think
Is there a app that gives notification of the Google Music free song of the day?
Similar to how this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apperhand.amazon.appstore.free.app.of.the.day
Notifies of the free Amazon App Store free app of the day?
Sent from A Team Kang Powered VZW 4G LTE G-Nex
Yes Please! ...and how about all the other free songs on Google Play Music?
I second this inquery and move to inform of possible solutions for google music free song of the day/free song collection/antenna free song , anyone?
free song of the day is listed on the main page:
https://play.google.com/store/music?hl=en
it is down a little bit after the 'best deals' section. On the free song of the day is a link for 'more free music':
https://play.google.com/store/music...theme_2011_10_29?feature=free-song-of-the-day
Their free song of the day, I guess actually came from blog Magnifier:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/
which hosted features for people to find/discover new music, and of course a free song of the day.
apparently the blog not only had a free song of the day, but had a segment called "Antenna" with free samplers, which seemed to be monthly 'editor picks', would be a good way to describe what it was before.... usually of a new release OR an independent / lesser known band complete with reviews....
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Antenna
Antenna, as with the 'song of the day' also merged into google play music, and is now stating "ANTENNA SAMPLER: Google Play's monthly free sampler is back with more new hip-hop, indie, electronic, country and Latin pop." which seems to be a selection of several artists, ~10 tracks, with an opening few paragraphs talking about that month's selection... it is found (took me a while) at the bottom of the main store page, on the left below the graphic that says "Free Music" (not the same link... which is misleading), the link is the actual text that says "ANTENNA": https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010140_ant_antenna_march
it looks like it is actually a 'collection' which there are other collections to the right of "free music".
The original Magnifier blog also had "Scanner", which provided free samples of different GENRES of music:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Scanner
In the Google Music store, I am not sure where to find this at all - however I do believe it is the same as when you first create an account (or maybe it was when first logging in, or downloading the 'music manager' desktop program) and it offered to add free music based on the genres you selected..... IF anyone knows where to find the free music GENRE sections within Google Play Music, please let me know!!
Also, The original Magnifier blog contained video interviews with various artists... new releases, new artists, up and coming, independent, etc... However, the video features usually contained a selection of free songs as well:
http://magnifier.blogspot.com/search/label/Video Feature
The link to the google play store works:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_videofeature_20100c2_vid_dr_dog
However, I cannot figure out where this 'video features' section is and how to get to them from the Google Play site... again, if you know - please let me know
And last, there was a 'free songs archive', a banner on the side of the page... I believe this is the same as the ''more free music" link on the song of the day:
https://play.google.com/store/music...011_10_29?feature=free-song-of-the-day#?t=W10.
free songs url from the magnifier banner link:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_theme_2011_10_29
However, it does not provide the entire 'archive' to view but it seems to change once a week?? I'm not sure....
SOOOOO There are SEVERAL placed to get free music from Google Play Music store.... some of them I can't even find anymore, and don't know exactly how they name the 'collections' as it isn't a generic link, but changes with each new weekly/monthly 'free samplers'....
For example:
Searching "google play music magnifier" came up with this result, an old video feature:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_videofeature_2011_10_26?hl=en
Searching "google play music antenna" came up with several different old antenna collections:
most recent -
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010140_ant_antenna_march
older results -
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_12?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music...iew_antenna_2010019_ant_antenna_october?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music...ew_antenna_20100d5_ant_antenna_december?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_11
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_20100fb_ant_jan_antenna?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2010121_ant_feb_antenna?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_13?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_13?hl=en
These seem more like the original blog's "Antenna" in that it is about a single album by an artist, with a paragraph of info about the artist/band:
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2011_10_27?hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/music/collection/series_overview_antenna_2012_01_10?hl=en
Either these (a specific artist on Antenna) or the "Video Features" with free songs to download -I think- are related to all the albums titled:
"(Artist Name): Live at Google" by (Artist) or simply "Live @ Google" by (Artist)
Which so far seem to all be free... Also, all the album 'cover art' for these albums also have a similar grey bar that says "[email protected]" as if it is the album name, regardless of which of the two album titles above is used.
Other than being able to make out the year (2012) and dates on some of these links, and then not using the year anymore on newer ones but a 2010xx link of some sort, I can't seem to make sense of how to check regularly other than going through the google music play store and hoping the Antenna section is there and hoping I can find out where to find the Video Features section...
Of course all the links have "/music/collections/series_overview_".... in the url, however I have seen nothing to indicate searching collections or finding links to 'series'.... Again, if you know something I've missed - please let me know!!!
Hopefully there is a program / app or something that can inform (or possibly automate the 'add'?), for at least the free song of the day? As that seems to be one of the many sources of free music on Google Play Music that would be easy to locate and has a 'feature=free song of the day' URL that likely(?) stays the same...
thanks for any help guys! :fingers-crossed:

I know it's been a while since you asked, but maybe some else will stumble across this thread looking for it.
I have written a free app just for this. It is called "Free Song of the Day" in the Play Store. Search for FSOTD or download it here;

I would really appreciate any feedback. I have just released it and I am sure there could be some improvements. I will even be willing to send you a premium version of the app for free if you PM me and are willing to test it out.
Also, if anyone has any good ideas on how to promote Android apps to get more downloads, I'd be more than interested. Thanks.

Do not use the name FM Radio application, but Stream Radio. FM in this case is a misuse of the name for an application that does not use a radio module to receive FM broadcast stations.
More on wikipedia.

Dear user,
We are a FM online Streaming platform because we play the radio streams provided to us by the radio broadcasters.
I'm sorry, I think the name is misleading in this case too!
It suggests that it can replace the stock radio application of certain FM radio receiver phones.
But obviously the name is Your Things, this is just another opinion.

Hey, If user's doesn't like the app we wouldn't have that great play store ratings (4.6) and review. Moreover our app has everyting about internet radio. Why u said that is not a internet radio. Have u ever used the app? There are more than 60,000+ radios from every country. We have been raking on major keywords on google play store and we are sure that google is not that stupid. But Anyway thanks for the review.
FM radio is for stations like 88.1 - 107.9; NOT a radio app. You can change but call it like OneStopRadio or people are going to be UPSET.

Hi OneStopRadio,
I downloaded your app the other day, and I must say I really like what you have done with both the mobile app and website.... Nice clean, clear and usable/good interface among both. I like what it has to offer, easy to use and great search/listings. Easy to find what you want, fav and set timers. Very well thought out app.
One thing that does puzzle me though, and is no biggie.... On this forum, and on the web Google playstore, it is called "FM, AM, Radio... blah blah" However, when searching within the mobile app playstore its listed as "FM, AM Radio India... blah blah" summit like that. Strange that the mobile app brands it India, but everywere else just keeps a global generic name. As said, no biggie, doesn't alter anything. But did wonder if I downloaded a region specific edition, coming from the UK.
Anyway, great app... keep up the great work. Don't change too much...

Hey, First of all thanks very much for taking out the time to review our application and providing such a valuable feedback. It means a lot to us.
Coming to the point of "App name" let us make you understand that how it work's with below points because you have to understand some technicalities involved in this.
1. Our developer name is "OneStop Radio".
* Our name of the app in india is - FM Radio: Radio india, FM & AM
* Our name of the app in USA is - FM Radio : AM, FM Radio Tuner
2. Google allows every developer to change its App Title, Description, Screenshots & much more accordingly to the country. So we have different names of the app. Suppose you are in india then you will see india in our app name, if you are in USA you will see another title name. We do it because we have radios from all over the globe and we want to target every country. It's in our hand to change the title of the app to anything, but we cannot change our developer name that is "OneStop Radio".
2. After you posted this we checked with the team and yes, there has been some problem with the title of app in "Uk". It's showing india & we dn't know why but it will be fixed soon and you will be able to see new app title acc. to "UK" users. You also asked that wether you have downloaded the specific region edition, anwser to that is "NO". Our app is same on all country play store, just you will see different app name of different country play store listing.
We thank you again for bringing the issue to us about the "UK" play store name. We will soon fix it and let you know here.
Hope you understand our explanation.
Thanks
Team OneStop Radio.
Hi @onestopradio team,
Thank you for getting back to me, and clearing up/explaining how the title system works across regional Google Playstores...
As said, the title wasn't really a big issue for me, just wondered why it was coming up as India in one place, but more generic everywhere else.... and your explanation clears that up perfectly.
Since the last post, I came across a couple of apps similar in nature to yours, one of them a little too similar (whether it's a partner company? My Radio: Local Radio Stations). Anyway, made me think a couple of idea's you could borrow from others to make yours even better!!! ;-)
Firstly....
1) My Radio: Local Radio Stations
- Record (button) feature
I like the idea of being able to record/save the stream for listening back later, should you not be able to listen to it live at the time.... I appreciate there maybe legal reasons why this is not possible, but if others have it and is possible. Would be a near feature to add...
2) Simple Radio: Live AM FM Radio
- Cast (button) feature
Another cool feature is the ability to re-direct the audio stream to an additional room/location via Casting technology and looking for a Cast, Home, DLNA device that can direct the audio through.
With regards to your own app, just a personal bug-bear of my own.... (as in, it's my issue... not yours) I'm not keen seeing the "Recents" take up all that space on the page when listening to a station. Personally I'd rather keep it minimal/simple and have empty space than see those other stations pushing up.
One way around this could be to double tap the station's main logo (highlighted green) and it pushed the Recently played out of view, and another double tap brings them back up again...??
Or, perhaps being able to delete/hide them by using the triple dots on the side of the station to delete/hide. Or even a swipe in either direction to wipe it out of view...
Perhaps under the Play/Pause, you could even add buttons as above, to record or cast?
Hope you found the comments/suggestions useful...? They weren't intended as critizism, but more of what could be useful to others too...?
All the best, Lister
Any FM Radio app that requires the internet to play music is NOT an FM Radio app and therefor misleading. End of discussion.

Yes you maybe right, but let us explain to you- suppose you are living in USA but your hometown is in brasil but in USA you cannot listen or access the brasil radios because the traditional fm radio cannot catch up those far signals in brasil, so that's where a internet radio comes no matter where you are you can access radio from around the world. Apart from this we offer many other feature which makes it more usefull & convenient in daily use. Hope you understand this. Thanks.

can your app access the build in FM chip to receive (as you call it) traditional fm radio? Answer: NO. So your app naming is misleading at best.
