[Q] Deleted Some Native Apps ... - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
Is it possible to recover some native apps that I uninstalled accidentally????
If yes !! How ???
And is it possible to reset my phone to factory state ... so that it could come with all the apps ??
Thanks in advance

Which device do u have?

Samsung Galaxy Gio 2.2.1
I deleted my Clock
DeskClock.apk | I already saw other threads about this, but none are the original DeslClock.apk from (GIO 2.2.1 FROYO)

You didn't do a nandroid backup when you root your phone?

Noo .. I don't even know how to do
Is it possible to put it like how it came from factory ?

Do the update otherwise

what update ? and how ?
What exactly does the update ?

There isn't the nand backup for this device, i have another one, look to this thread for more information there are official firmwares in first post, u could find the clock u looking for...

Since you managed to delete a native app, I'm asuming that you're rooted.
1. Find the app you deleted by checking the dev section and download the ROM. (Or google the apk name. If you find it then skip 2)
2. Extract the ROM (Zip) and find the APK you need.
3. Transfer the APK to your SD card.
4. Open/Install ES File Explorer (from the Market)
5. Enter app settings (in ES) and gain root and system file read/write permission (flick the toggles)
6. Copy the APK to /system/app
7. Exit ES File Explorer
8. Done
Sent from my DHD on a weekend, so I'm probably drunk.

[ROM] Official HTC Froyo (with Sense), some apps removed

This is the official froyo rom released by HTC on 1/8/2010. I have removed some apps which I never use, see the changes. And it is rooted of course
Changes
- Removed AppSharing
- Removed stocks
- Removed teeter
- Removed flickr
- Removed footprints
- Removed car panel
- Removed quickoffice
- Removed voice search
Download
You will also need the latest radio update which you can download here.
Restoring apps
Here is a little guide to restore apps which I removed:
1. Download "RemovedApps.rar", I attached it.
1. Find the .apk and .odex file of the app and extract them from the rar.
2. Download this ROM and open it with WinRAR, go to /system/app and add the .apk and .odex files you just extracted. Close WinRAR and it should be fine.
Removing other apps
If you want to remove other apps yourself you can also just open the ROM with WinRAR and go to /system/app and delete the .apk and .odex file.
Thanks for the effort!
Downloading.
Looks nice..
Could you drop a guide to remove more apps like Gmail and all the other google appz and still have Sense.
Well this is interesting, gonna try this one

Just be careful, removing specific apps will break things, yes. However I don't know all of the apps that do. I'm sorry

You must use ClockwordMod recovery, or any other custom recovery with verification disabled.

If you want to unroot and install a rom that will bring up the ota update as normal do this
Download this rom:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Brav...984_signed.zip
change the name to PB99IMG and put it on your gold card, boot into recovery and select fastboot, it will install the generic 1.21 rom, then when you check for updates the froyo update will be there, btw doing this wipes everything on your phone. Worked for me although I didn't install the froyo update as I am scared of the bootloader.
Hello
Same problem with HtcFootprints
Thanks for your help, i let find how to use ClockwordMod recovery
Regards!
Hello again
I copy all missed app to to .zip

META-INF/com/google/android/update-script
Verification failed

Nicolas
Installed works perfectly, only had to restore voicesearch.apk and his odex file, but atm i don't know what to do, this is just a /system dump and the rom doesn't restore the backup of my phone from the sdcard... i lost all sms, configs, etc.
Dont work ,error say
Main Version is older
Update fail!
why do scare about bootloader of froyo update??bricks the desire??nobody try it (same situation like us?)
Thanks
Nicolas

[Q] How to Install APK into System/App ???

I downloaded the Backup System Apps from here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1209425
I put the DeskClok.apk on the sd card then I tryed to install, but it give me an error ..
how do I install this or any other APK into the system/app folder ?
is this okey to install on Galaxy Gio 2.2.1 FROYO ???
What is the error? because that helps give you an answer.
Do you have your settings to allow installs from outside the market?
Go to settings, applications, Unkown sources and tick the box.
What error are u getting?
I'm getting this error .. "error analysis ... there is a problem with the analysis package"
(don't know if its well translated .. I'm portuguese, so I get the error in portuguese)
I put it on the SD card .. clik in it and it give me this error ..
It probably said problem parsing the package. It maybe that that file is corrupted so look for a different one and try it.
well .. that was the only one I find here .. for galaxy gio
I accidentally deleted my DeskClock.apk ... I tried to search for it but none are the original clock for gio ...
I hoped this was the one .. don't you know how can I get the original DeskClock.apk for GIO 2.2.1 Froyo ??
Ok let me see what I can do.
thanks a lot
i'll be waiting for a reply !!
Ok considering deskclock a standard app here's a link download one of these apk's to see if it works try the newest ones first.
http://search.4shared.com/search.html?searchmode=2&searchName=deskclock+apk
You can even download from your phones browser to make it easier. Just make sure you have unknown apps checked.
thanks a lot ..
i'll try it now ..
Just hit the thanks button if I helped its a non-dev like me got.
System apps are not signed, so they cannot be installed through the normal way. You'll need Root Explorer or another root level file explorer. EStrongs File Explorer is free - you may need to enable root access in settings. I highly recommend getting Root Explorer if you can. It's on sale for $.99 in the Amazon App Store and possibly in the market. I purchased it from the market so I can't see the price right now.
Anyway, I'll give you the directions with Root Explorer, but they may be a little different with another app. Navigate to where you have the apk on your SD card. Long-press on the apk and select copy, then use the up level button (at the top of the folders, marked as "... " ) until you can't go any further. You'll be at the root directory of your phone. Open the system folder and select "mount r/w" near the top left, then app (you'll be in /system/app) and select the paste button. Long-press on the deskclock.apk and select "permissions" from the menu. Mark it so it looks like this:
Read Write
Read
Read
Then reboot your phone & it should be there.
Alternatively, you could reflash your rom without wiping data to get the app back. Reflashing will override any changes you've made to the system, and any apps you've deleted will need to be deleted again. Good luck!

Thanks a lot .. your tutorial about root explorer is really explicit .. I dindn't know it would be that easy .. i'll purchase and try it now
About Reflashing ...
what is it ?
how can i do it ?
He probably talk about to reflash your stock rom as i linked u in your other thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16810804&postcount=8 in second post of that thread is explain how to flash your samsung.

[Q] Deleted wrong file & titanium back up issue

I have an Alcatel OT 918A (gingerbread 2.3.6, kernel version 2.6.35.7) that I just rooted, but unfortunately while trying to remove bloatware I accidentally deleted the live wallpaper launcher & now I can't open the live wallpaper gallery. help anyone?
Also in trying to remove the bloatware from the phone I keep gettin the message "cannot remove system app. failed to locate the apk file." Is there anyway to get around this?
search google for the name of the app you deleted (eg. livewallpaper.apk or whatever it was called)
and use root explorer/root browser lite or any other root file manager, go to system/app, mount as r/w (in top right corner) and long press the app you wish to delete

Copy Samsung apps to other devices

Hello, is there a way to copy a Samsung app (e.g. Email in Galaxy Ace 2) to another device of different brand?

Yes you can. If you can identify the .apk file of a certain application, you can simply copy it to
another device and install there.
This is something I used to do whenever I see my friends mobiles. I will checkout if they have any cool
App. If I like any, I will find out the installation file (.apk extension) and I will Bluetooth/superbeam it to my mobile
and install...as simple as that...
And my easiest way to find the apk file is "just search for 'apk' in file explorer"....

This simply does not work for the Sammy apps they are kinda rigged to the framework .
One must heavily modify the apps to make them work on non Sammy ROMs
This is the reason why non of the sense apps are ported to CM ROMs
sorry for any ty¶°s

That's what I was afraid of.. Because I've tried copying the samsung mail app in different ways to my ZTE (apk copy, titanium backup etc) and none of them did work. I also tried copying the exchange app but no luck either.

One simply isn't able to port Sammy apps without going full retard

Have you tried direct copy inside system? Since you said you've tried Titanium Backup, it means your device has been rooted right?
Enter your system and change its permission to copy the application there into your memory card... hope it works...

[Q] Settings-->Themes

There is this option called Themes in the settings menu. consider me a complete newbie and tell me how that works(Like does it help in changing themes if so how do I do it).
There is no option called themes on the stock Rom. What are you running?

A custom ROM dev may choose to add the new CM theme engine to his/her ROM. If you were to install a theme (via Play Store or .apk from XDA, NOT themes that you flash or where you modify files) you use the theme manager to use the theme.

You deleted a symlink that linked to your internal storage, thus it deleted everything. You can't see the symlink in a file explorer while in Android but while connected to a PC, you can.

wow never expected it to be so complicated. Does this symbolic link show up only in custom rom's, if no then normal users like myself would probably mistake it for an empty folder and delete it.
Thanks for the explanation.

It exists in any ROM. You shouldn't delete anything if you don't know what it is.
