after applying the t-mobile OTA, my phone is suddenly locked and asking for a 5-digit pin?? It only allows emergency calls, what gives??
Not heard of an OTA doing that, unless it's SIM-locked the phone (which would be a bit harsh)

Are you on T-Mobile US? Were you rooted before you did the update?

Shouldn't do that even if he was rooted. Strange. Have you simply called Tmous support?
Sure u dont entered your pin 3 times wrong?
If yes a 5digit puk is needed.... have a look for it on your contract where the sim card was taped on...
sry for my english
Mine isn't asking for a PIN but I just updated and checked the bootloader afterwards.
Above the regular stuff (where the S-Off tool normally puts their banner) is a "***LOCKED***" in pink. Wasn't there before.
SOO... Either this is prep for their unlock tool, or ???
Can always try a factory reset via the bootloader? I removed a pin off a phone from ebay by doing this (bit silly really as anyone can find it out with google!)
or......try unlocking via HTCDEV.com

Seems like you need to get an unlock code.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Hey,
I've already got my SIm Unlock code (this guide helped me get it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233513 )
However when I placed my non-TMobile Sim, I don't get the "SIM Code" popup. This phone belongs to my godfather and he's not sure if he tried entering the code too many times when he tried to use an AT&T Sim.
How can I check if its permanently locked and/or force it to bring up the Sim code popup?
I'm rooted with S-OFF but still on the stock HTC rom.
Thanks.
Edit: I've done the Diag screen to Clean S58 Data and it's still not showing up.. :-/
Edit 2: Scratch the above. I did the Clean S58 data twice, and I got signal. My godfather will love this!

Branded or unbraded doesn't mean fake or original.
Branded = it came with your sim carrier (any logo of your carrier on it?)
Unbranded= means the opposit
If you have a branded phone, you can use only the sim of your carrier unless you unlock it.
This is why I asked. Good luck!

It's probably a n00b question so apologies in advance, but if I root / bootloader unlock and Cyanogenmod flash an Android phone that's locked to a certain network, will that network lock be removed along with the official default Android ROM? Or is the lock at something like a BIOS level (or whatever the smartphone equivalent of a BIOS is)?
I bought a pre-unlocked Xperia U about a year ago that I've been using on Vodafone and had to return it under warranty (got stuck in a boot loop despite the fact that it's totally unmodified, not even rooted, honest!) and the replacement they sent back is locked to Virgin Mobile. They're telling me that the phone I sent them was originally sold to Virgin in France and locked to Virgin before I bought it, and that they've therefore fulfilled their responsibility. So I'm just wondering now about unlocking, and I've always been curious anyway about how / if bootloader unlocking, custom ROMs etc are related to network unlocking.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide with this!

well u can unlock it.. by getting the code from sony..
It will also unlock the ph..'s Sim lock..
Or ask the sony officialy for this.. they'll provide u every info required.
But unlocking the bl will do the job for you to be sim free
But do double check this from google too.
Also before unlocking pls make a backup as it will wipe everything from the device.
Just unlock and don't flash any custom kernels. If you want to then do it carefully pls with a backup and a copy of flashable stock rom.
Flash custom roms based on stock kernels
Hope this will answer the query..
Thanks for your reply! I spoke to Sony and they just told me to contact the network (which have done and they're wanting to charge me a fee to provide the unlock code). So to clarify, if I root the phone and unlock the bootloader, the network SIM lock will also be removed?

i'll try to find the link for this
Also check this that how many times is the code applied for unlocking..it should not be 0
use this *#*#7378243#*#* in dialer
then service info sim lock

When I dial that number, the number just disappears. What is it for? They want £15.32 for the code. Should I just pay them and forget about trying to remove the lock?

Sorry the code is this
*#*#7378423#*#*
check the sim lock counters should be zero in all..
if zero then once u can try googling the code for unlocking if they work then it's great.
if not then it would be better to pay them for this as its a bit risky..
and are u using virgin's network??
As it's cheaper what they areaskingfor i guess.

Thanks, I'll give it a try! And nah I use Vodafone. Virgin has no signal at all in my area.
My IMEI became null due to flashing by LG Flash tool. So i repaired imei using QPST and RF_NV_Manager, but then my phone is carrier locked now. When i enter into network lock through code 2945#*850#, it displays "This phone is permanently locked and cannot be unlocked". So i either cannot unlock it through an unlock code. Is there any other way?
I have the same issue as i think entered codes multiple time. PHONE PERMANENTLY LOCKED..
i found no solution yet.. I think there is no easy method.
This is a great phone & I want to use it longer.
Any solutions anyone please?

Never mind, I got it fixed through a third party. All good now and unlocked again
Greetings,
I have unlocked my Note 5 a while ago and it all worked fine. After some flashing, however, my SIM wont be recognized anymore. Tried everything even reverting to STOCK ROM via Odin but the SIM just wont register. (The APN-Settings are still read correctly though so the Reader should be fine).
I now assume that the SIM Unlock somehow was lost during flashing? Is that possible? How can I check wether or not my device still has the unlock? Should I request unlock service again and if yes, where?
Greetings

I used idone apps to unlock mine. After flashing a note 7 rom. Mine locked up again. And idone team. Stated that my android id had changed. And they updated there system re applied the unlock and good to go. It has been known that some rom flashes will undo unlock. Idone cost $30 American. Little pricey but worth it
THIS solved the problem https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...al/fix-signal-update-flash-to-6-0-mm-t3345709

Was your unlock service made by software or direct unlock via sprint?
Edit:
Nevermind, saw your last post.
Edit2: Cool, that's the thread I made.
I have a S8+ which is network sim locked to 3 (Sweden). Is there a way to unlock it and still run stock rom? i prefer not running a custom rom.
i already tried unlocking using https://www.samsungsimunlock.com/ without success...
im getting the message :
SIM Network Unlock PIN
Even though the unlock code i ordered from the above page said its permanently unlocked

First, this is the correct message your phone should display and it should be unlocked by now.
However, there are a few things you could check:
1. Verify if the phone's IMEI is clean on websites like: http://imeipro.info
2. Remove any potential Region Lock (if your phone hasn't been used before, place a 5 min call with an accepted SIM card).
3. What message did you receive after inserting the code?
