[Q] Cannot root due to SIM unlock? - HTC Inspire 4G

Does anyone know if having the phone unlocked by a code BEFORE you root it makes a difference? I purchased this phone about a month ago and I had no intention to root it so I purchased an unlock code from Blowfish Unlocks. Now i'm trying to root it using attn1's Hack Kit and I've followed the readme word-for-word. I've had trouble downgrading it for the last week so I put a post on Craigslist to see if anyone could help, I though I wasn't doing it right. The guy that was helping me had the exact problem.
For some reason we could not downgrade using the hack kit. But once we tried Bubby's Super One Click, no problem downgrading. But for now we cant get it to root. It goes through all the steps but it fails at the end. I'm still on the downgraded ROM but no audio will come out of my phone. I'm at a loss here.
Anyone know of a way around this?
Is this because i have the phone SIM unlocked before I rooted?

I dont think the unlock code makes a difference. Have you tried running step 3 of the hack kit again now that your on the downgraded rom?
I'm assuming the when you days steps failed that was with bubbys.
I'm not familiar with bubbys. Tool so you can ignore this if this is what it uses. Another alternate is using visionary to temp and permanent root then using jkoljo easy radio tool gain soff.(this is how how DHD brothers root)

[Q] how does root htc incredible 2 affect sensation root?

So....alpha rev has managed to attain permanent root on the htc incredible 2. a locked phone.
is it the same locking mechanism and will the root processes of this phone give us hints about to go about rooting sensation?
FINALLY.. A Q&A SECTION!! CHRIST.
Back on topic, i'm wondering the same thing. I HIGHLY doubt it though since no one has even found TEMP root for our device yet. We need to at least get temp root before anything.

We shall see maybe the same team will start working on the Sensation
no one will or can root the sensation until htc sends out the update that will unlock the bootloaders, sorry guys. with the bootloader locked, there is no way to get s-off and no phone has the same rooting method.
The problem is that to gain permanent root - we first need to get temp root.
As of this moment - getting temp root is impossible since HTC patched it.
So our hope is to figure out a way to get temp root, in order to get full permanent root on the Sensation.

Not entirely true. The G2 had a locked bootloader and came S-on, so did the MT4G. Htc never released a S-off bootloader for either. I believe both were done with ENG boot leaks.
The difference is the sensation is a signed bootloader which is different than either the g2 and the mt4g
Yeah thats correct, the G2 and the MT4G have the same rooting methods, and we got the bootloader unlocked but finding an exploit which powers down the eMMC chip and allow us to turn S-OFF

[Q] Bubby323's Simple Root kit include SIM Unlock?

I rooted my inspire back in May(?) using Bubby323's Simple Root method. I've searched to see if that method included SIM Unlock but it seems as though most of those threads were deleted. I read most roots for the Inspire included this but I want to be sure before I list my phone as unlocked when trying to sell. Everyone around me has AT&T so I cant swap SIMs to verify.
Read this

I don't recall it similar unlocking the the phone only rooting.
Half of those posts say it does, and the other half says it doesnt lol

I just looked at the thread and it doesnt say anything about unlocking the sim
Getting two things confused, sorry.
In hboot, what happens if you select Simlock? Does it lock the Sim, or verify if you are locked or not?
I believe it locks the sim
If I remember right from the old manual sim unlocking days it is all zeros to be unlocked
Well i tried it, it said something about file failed and something else failed. What did that mean?

Bubby's used gfree to root and so should do SIM unlocking as well. If you absolutely want to verify it, then you can send modem AT commands directly to your radio to verify. See this article:

Unlocking/Sim Tool kit?

When rooting the phone it does unlock your phone? I have been looking across some sites saying that it does or it does not. Also the ace hack kit does unlock your phone.
I thought it does because when you flash a Rom it cause what carriers.
Other ? Is I also notice the sim tool kit but when I click on it it says its not ready or supported. Just wondering why its not.working I did come.across http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_Application_Toolkit
Overall I don't.need to unlock my phone cause its already unlocked. And the sim tool kit its nothing major.

No rooting your phone does not unlock it. But the ace hack kit does unlock it. Most sim tool kits do not work as they were not made for updated phones

Ok when I rooted my phone I rooted by a tut video and it was the buddys root method lol I never used the ace hack kit before. Im downloading the AHK to see, I can still use that even though I used a different method? The AHK it self does the unlocking method from what I can see...
If I just wanted to unlock it i could just get the unlock code and go from their but I know you have to get a non accepted sim card.
If you are already rooted it's not recommended to use the ace hack kit. You'll have to unroot first.

If you are rooted, then you are probably Sim unlock. As Pazz told you, don't use the Hack Kit, you will get jammed. First, check is you are already sim lock by using the method in point 5 of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
If that is not working, then you can revert to stock using the Hack Kit and re rooting...that will give you sim unlock....
O wasnt going to use the hack kit just saying. I also came across in the dev part for the stock ruu and shows how to go back to out of the box phone status. But there is couple of ways to revert back to stock phone lol so many choices
Cause I was thinking about selling my HTC inspire and was also looking to see how unroot the phone to go back to stock

What if I just want to root only?

So I have been researching this for a friend because he wants to root his phone. The thing is, he only needs root so that he can tether. He doesn't want to sim unlock or have s-off or even install a different rom...
The only way to root the latest software that I have seen is to you use the ace hack kit.
There is no root only option...I have read the effin manual over and over and have searched but is there a way to just obtain root and only root?
Just want to remove at&ts tether block without losing the sound and installing the stock desire rom...
Help, please?

your best bet is not to ask this group how to breach your att agreement. this is not for your friend you are just saving face by not asking yourself, why doesnt your 'friend' have google? Yes you can just root the phone but to do so you have to follow the steps because its locked. no you cant just toggle an option and have root, thats the reason for all the steps. Or, just pay the tether fee and life is simpler, please dont use this forum to find ways to get around att fees.
Since it seems to be illegal to try and circumvent ATTs tethering restrictions...

[Q] Can i update my firmware to 2.20

Hi Guys
Sorry for asking the same old question again..
I just got my AT&t HTC One x from US shipped over to India by my cousin.
It is locked to AT&t and i am unable to use a local network sim in it
I know i need to root it and turn S-off in order to unlock it.
The phone is on Firmware 1.85? and i have tried the ways mentioned in xda to root it but i guess when i click "Check for updates" it doesn't work.
So my question is
Can i manually by connecting the phone to Computer, update firmware to 2.20 so that i can root it that way?
And is it possible to unlock the BOOTLOADER w/out rooting so that phone gets unlocked to other carriers?
please help me out guys i have tried everything to make it work.. thank you
Unlocking the bootloader/rooting/dancing in circles WILL NOT sim unlock the phone.
You will need to use an online sim unlocking service (usually about 20 bucks) to get the unlock code
Currently, S-Off has not been achieved for this phone. And as already mentioned, bootloader unlock will not get you SIM unlock, and no free hack/mod method currently exists. You either need to use a paid unlock service, or if your cousin is currently an AT&T account holder, he can ask AT&T for the SIM unlock code (he will need the IMEI number of the phone, and maybe other info).
If you want root and unlocked bootloader for other reasons (flashing custom ROMs and other mods) there is no reason to upgrade to 2.20. Root method exists for 1.85. You need to root, SuperCID, then unlock the bootloader. Then you can install a custom recovery and flash custom ROMs.
Upgrading to 2.20 is not recommended. The 2.20 RUU will upgrade your hboot, which plugs the holes by which kernels and radios can be flashed from recovery. You will have to flash the boot.img separately every time your flash a ROM. No benefit to updating to 2.20, and actually lose ability to do some things.
If you still want root and bootloader unlock, refer to my index for links to root methods, etc.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
And no, bootloader unlock is not possible without root (temp root in case of 2.20) on the AT&T One X.

Thank you for a detailed answer. The reason i though it would unlock the sim was cause i had used other htc phones earlier and when you root them the S-off was achieved so thats why.. anyhow.. thank you for enlightening my dumb bum.
You're not dumb. Just ignorant. Now you have been enlightened. You still have a great phone, you just might have to pay a little bit so you can unlock and use it

The word "ignorant" has always sounded like a pejorative word to me. But I had to look up the definition, figuring maybe I don't really know the literal meaning of the word. Which turned out to be the case. One of the definitions of ignorant is "Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular" which seems to exactly fit this situation. I guess I gave myself the English lesson for the day!
Every phone is different, and HTC in particular is always changing around their security measures. So the OP is not dumb in any way, but was just missing some particular pieces of information.
