You may or may not have heard of VVVVVV but long story short its a very fun indie game for the Windows, Mac and Linux. Yesterday one of my friends said to me hey wouldn't it be cool if that game was available for android! so I found a way to play it
Gameplay of VVVVVV on xperia play:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOP31TLKeAQ
Tutorial:
1. download and install swf player
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.issess.flashplayer&hl=en
2. Get the swf version of VVVVVV, make sure you own the game! I wont help you find this file.
3. get astro file manager (or any other file manager that works you) then long tap on your homescreen, choose shortcuts, choose astro, browse to where you saved VVVVVV and choose it.
4. all done! now just click on the icon to launch the game.
if you have any questions feel free to ask.
PS: Yes the physical keys do work you only need to use the virtual keys once to launch the game.
PSS: Have now got the X button to work for flipping gravity so you can play the full game properly, Just go into key setting in swfplayer and choose track ball pressed and change it to activate the space bar, swf player thinks the xperia plays X button is a track ball being pressed so this makes it activate a virtual space bar press.

Ive got it on steam too
In the latest update the game got remade in C++ so you will have to find to old flash version somewhere online. downloading the demo works too.
I have the old windows v1 copy but can't get the swf out of the exe file
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
search on swfchan, you can convert swf to apk on this website
will it allow the use of the Play controllers if it is just swf. Or do you need that swfplayer to configure the controllers?
well I Had to use swf player because the game uses the dpad to play and the enter key to start the game. unfortunately the xperia play doesnt have a physical enter key which is why I used swf player to make a virtual one just to start the game up.

The annoying thing is that if you bought the game legally there doesn't seem to be a way to swf out of the exe (at least not a functioning one anyway) but there are swf versions of the full game on various websites but they refuse to play unless played from that website. :/
This works for runescape also
Thank you so much for the tutorial, But i have one problem, And that it's with the "Jump" button, I only can jump using the "Up" button on the D-Pad.
And i want to use The "X" button on my Play.
PS: I use the full version not the demo.
I know this is an old thread but I decides to have a crack at this again and I got the X button to work for flipping gravity! In the key settings for swf player choose track ball pressed (I think thats what its called) and change it to space bar, swf player thinks that pressing the X button is a track ball being pressed so this makes it work!
Also I got the full game to run rather than the demo.
Sorry to bump on an old thread, but I bought the game DRM-free, with a windows installer AND on steam... but I can't get hold of a swf file... How can I buy this version??

The steam version got a huge update a while back so its coded in C++ not flash anymore. The only way to find the flash file is to search around the internet.
I will be honest, it was very tough to find a DRM free version of the swf.
Yes, I just found out that my games are both in version 2... Which is recoded in C++.
And I could not find how to downgrade with Steam... :-(

I have tried PocketCultMame
http://www.pocketcult.com/home.php
But it is so buggy that it isnt an option for the raphael.
Also tried Pocket Nester for NES.
Nester seems to start the ROMs ok but the key mappings just dont work right.
Anyone got these anything or else to work well?
Curious
I would also like to know if the keyboard works with Pocket Nester. Anyone know?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423444
seems to be a general problem
i have tried all the emulators with virtually no luck at all. Seems none of the keys every work for me
same problem here, it seems that HTC used a different technology to number the keys.
maybe because the touch pro has more buttons than most other devices.
Had same problem with games that use mapping (like worms for ppc, doom 1 & 2, etc), as well as with the DOS emulator.
It's a key mapping problem... when is someone going to create a program to use the capacitive part of the TP as buttons (so we can play and emulate stuff?) :^P
For the moment im playing with the device upsidedown, im using the Up, down, left, right as the D-Pad and strg + shift as A and B button.. not a very practical but it works.. i hope there will be a better solution for this problem..

I use FPSEce 0.9.6 beta and it works with red alert retaliation. The intro video is laggy but once you skip that and get into the game menu, its smooth.
You just rip your psx games to .iso format and copy to the SD card.

Any Updates?
Has there been any progress on this? I really want the Sprint Touch Pro! But if I can't map the keyboard for use with emulators, that would be a deal breaker.
Have you tried FinalBurn?
You can get it from:
http://www.modaco.com/content/smartphone-software-games/247894/finalburn-for-wince-0-014/
FinalBurn emulates CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 games (including Street Fighter Alpha 3).
However there are several problems:
1. Low FPS during match (other games like XMENVSSTREETFIGHTER are better)
2. Jerky UNPLAYABLE performance with Sound ON.
3. Keyboard can't be mapped
4. Controls mapping issue
The degree to which FPS is impacted is dependant on the game.
This is my experience with the HTC Touch Pro.
I think we need a more optimised FinalBurn version.
Another problem is that the processor has to process 4 times more info for the VGA screen so it will probably work better in QVGA devices.
Unfortunately I've not found a way to adjust in game resolution.
This MAME emulator certainly has potential! Try it!
Here is a great solution for the keyboards issues:

i googled around for awhile and found a really great and supposedly rare emulator for nes its hard to find in english since its a jap build of nester only problem is games flip upside down in landscape mode but key mapping works great even with out kforraphel.
If someone know how to flip the screen ide really appreciate it since playing with the keyboard on to is pretty wierd.
also anyone have a good gba emulator outhere pocket gba is alright but not perfect...
bump- anyone how to fix the upside down screen in nesterj4u?
Here is the link to the apk
http://www.mediafire.com/?guph9rkryxw5w9x
Is it possible to edit the apk to accept different control inputs or spoof the device?
Key Mapping needed.
Isn't this a paid game in the Market? If it is you should not be posting this link here...
He only posted the demo version I believe
Is it playable without the keyboard?
That is correct demo can be downloaded for free so it´s ok

Hi!
I would like to play Doom and all its sequels in my Xplay. I had C2Doom in my old Nokia N81 but now with Android I don't find any good app...
I just found this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.xianle.doomtnt&feature=search_result but don't know if there's any better app...
Any idea? Thanks.
What abaut the emulators? Arnt there doom games for Snes, n64 and ps1?
I downloaded doom the other day and it plays pretty well on the xplay.
The only issue is that you cant set controls within the game, I tried and had to remove the doom folder to reset all settings, circle exits game and if you press it you cant cancel. X and Square do the same thing. So if i set X to shoot Square will also shoot.
I use Dpad to move, Sholders to look left/right, X/Square to shoot, Triangle to swap weapons, select to view map, start to open doors/confirm.
The download only comes with Doom Shareware but you can play full versions of Doom1, Doom2, TNT and plutonia by putting one of the game files in the doom folder on your sd card.

I had tried that app and I would say that a emulated game of Doom and Final Doom and using FPSE was a much more enjoyable and better way to play
Hey everybody!!
I want to know if there's a way to play Super Smash Flash 2 on our awesome Android phones. When I open it in the mobile browser, of course it opens and all, but it's not really playable. I probably need a physical keyboard. This is why I hate touch phones. Where the keyboards at? Sorry, off topic.
Anyways,
There is a download, but it's an .exe download. I want to know if there's anyway we can emulate this flash game on our phones and play it.
I know there's an app that let's us play .swf, which are flash movies. But I want to play a flash game.
Here's a link to it to view it or play it. =.P

I'm actually a developer of SSF2 (small world, huh?) & I've dabbled around with playing SSF2 on my Droid RAZR using apps that have onscreen buttons. You can download the mac version and unzip it on the root of your SD Card and the game will play (make sure you have the data folder in the root of the SD) - however since it's not optimized for mobile (or even close...) it runs at crazy low speeds and is almost unplayable.
Hello
I don't use steam. I bought games in store.
Is that possible to stream non steam game?
i haven't gotten mine yet but last i heard it either has to be detected in GFE or you can add non-steam games thru steam.
If you add a non-Steam game to your Steam Library (which is very simple and you can find out how to here), you can play it on the Shield by launching Steam in big picture mode. I've done it with a couple games, such as Hawken.

Can you run an emulator on the PC and stream it to Nvidia shield in this manner? I was thinking of emulators that maybe don't run too well on android but do so on the PC.

It's not working for me. I have the shortcuts setup and work fine in big picture mode without the shield. But when the shield is streaming and I go to launch a gamecube game, nothing happens.....
Other non-steam shortcuts work fine on my Shield, like Halo 2. How are your shortcuts setup?

2 ways to link gamecube roms to shield.
Method 1 is to use a batch file or some other script which launches dolphin with your rom, find a utility to compile it to an exe (steam will only trigger EXE files) and set steam to load that. I never got any of the old batch to exe utilities working but did get ironPython working to do the same.
Method 2. Just set steam to open dolphin and manually select a ROM. Probably wont work for big picture (I havent tried nor do I own a shield)

Funny enough, the batch file isn't working for me....
But just opening dolphin does, using the touchscreen to select a game with the mouse.

I had a friend who had a reasonable amount of success with the batch file option. Steam will only open EXE files normally so you do have to find a batch to EXE tool, but the only ones I can find now are either confirmed malware ridden, broken on modern versions of windows or both.
The basis of the method is you write a batch file which simply calls [path to dolphin] [path to rom] on the command line, when its run it should fire up dolphin with that rom no problem.
I did get ironPython to open Chrome on my PC once, steam was then able to call the ironPython EXE fine.
Did find a 3rd method last night. Add dolphin.exe to steam. Right click it, go into properties, add the path to your rom as a command line option. Limits you to 1 rom though and I couldnt get steam to let me add dolphin to steam multiple times without copying multiple instances of dolphin onto my computer.
Seems like the regular open dolphin > select game from shield method might be best for now.
Will be great when the dolphin for android port is complete, that is if the shield can run it (shields powerful but you do need a fair old amount of power to emulate a gamecube)
No Sound
