Low Battery = No Web Browsing!! - HTC Sensation

So I noticed this two days in a row now.
When my battery is low, 20% or lower, internet access/web browsing is pretty much DEAD.
Launched the browser tried to go to several websites, it just sits there loading FOREVER.
Both on WIFI and 2G/3G/4G. Full reboot same thing. Apps that require internet doesn't connect/work either, facebook, gmail, etc...
Power Saver/Saving in the settings are all turned off.
Pop in a fresh full battery, and it all works again.
Can't believe this.
Gawd, can't wait to get rid of Sense. Gimmie CM7 already damn it.

Actually, I think they all do that. Probably have to modify the camera app or flash drivers if you want to change that. I wasn't thinking about the camera flash because I never use it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App

just experienced both issues myself.
The camera flash, and the browsing. It was strange since gmaps would work (prob cached data, but i tried PLACES and it was downloading info) but not the browser. It seems switching the 3g data setting on and off worked for me, and I could browse again.
The camera flash issue I havent solved yet.
Strangely i hadnt noticed this before, but it happeend after I wiped/restored my phone with the pg*** files to sim unlock the phone.
Can someone with a complete stock phone test these before they mess around with rooting etc to see if this is universal?
And conversley someone with a custom rom?

Try re-enabling the power saver, then go into the power saver settings and uncheck everything, then go back and disable the power saver. Seems to work alright for me, but my battery is rarely less than 20%.

Turn off powersaver

My power saver was off when all this happened.

Strange, I use powersaver (set at 20%) and can browse the internet fine (just as quick as usual) even when the battery is at 1%. Some of the apps dont update on power saver though, such as weather etc, but if you try and update them manually it gives you to option to turn a disabled setting back on to fix this.
I find having power saver kick in at 20% makes the last part of the battery last longer, which is good if you need to make important calls on a low battery. It's Probably due to having the display set to 15% on powersaver. I run the display at 30% when power saver is off and get up to 5 hours screen on time from a full charge.
Cheers

Saving battery life

Hi all.
Looking for some serious help. Coming from a Samsung vibrant. I need help with how to save battery life on the sensation. I have been off charger for 5 hours and 51 minutes and am down to 41%. Is this normal? I have been only texting really. I got my data from battery monitor.
Thanks in advance. Anyway to make this better?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
It all depends on what you're using the phone for. I'm at 55% after 12 hours. yesterday I got 17 hours. if all you're doing us texting then no,thats not normal. but I suspect you're probably doing more with it than you realize since its a new toy.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
He prolly has running wifi as well?
Settings > Wireless and networks > Wifi settings > [MENU BUTTON] > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy > After 15 minutes
Stop Android from phoning home and you'll save greatly on battery life.
Best way I've found to prevent battery drain, is to stop Android from phoning home.
Once you use an app like Autostarts to stop unnecessary things from starting up all the time on their own and also block a couple ports that are not always needed via an app like DroidWall, you'll see great battery life. Also see other details in that link of things I turned off to increase battery life amoung other benefits.
For now, I can only speak for seeing the difference while using a Nexus One ROM on my HD2, but I have way better battery life, GPS lock times and faster device boot ups than ever before.
This is yet another one of the reasons I must wait till the Sensation is rooted and unlocked. Because I'm not using it while it's running things I can't better manage, so they don't drain my battery.

How did u get that much? I have battery monitor as a widget. I also did not charge the phone all the way up when I first got it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well to be honest for the 8 hours I'm at work, I use it light. texting, a few calls and about 30 minutes of reading pulse and playing games. However the next 8-9 hours I would consider moderate to heavy use. I have no monitors or anything running, just running straight out of the box.
I'm at 34% after 14.5 hours today.
I charged it fully the first day, ran it to 0, then charged it fully again last night.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Did draining it out help? It is really killing my battery. When my phone idles it loses about 7 percent an hour. Is this normal?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Mine is at most 3% per hour so I would say check if you have any running apps that aren't supposed to be.
I suppose draining could have helped but I have no way of knowing for sure
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah I killed my battery in 12 hours with decent use and then charged to 88 had to go but now down to 35 three hours later ....thinking of draining battery and then charging
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I think custom kernel can improve battery a lot..Wait
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I think mine's even worse. Phone was off charger at 100% at 11am, by 1:30PM it's already down to 80%ish. By 4PM it was down to 40%ish, got it charged up to about 70%ish around 6PM, by midnight I was around 6% again.
So I think I'm losing around 10%/hr. That's gotta be abnormal, and the battery gets really hot too. At the moment, I have several speculations:
1. Death grip causing the phone to work harder to find signal, and tmo's coverage kinda sucks in my town
2. I have defective unit/battery
3. Some apps behind the scene are killing it. But I've checked what's running behind, even turned off unnecessary stuff using autorun manager. Auto sync is turned of only for gmails. Weather, IMAP mails, pulse, facebook etc are set to pull in couple hrs instead hourly. The battery life cannot be worse than my 2-yr old HD2.
Hey guys. Have you considered bump charging. HTC advised the idea for the HTC desire battery and it in most cases doubles the battery.
Sorry I can't be more specific bit I'm on my phone. I have found the relevant link. Read the 1st post. I'm gonna do it when I get in from my gig.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
Bump charging kills the battery in long run.
If you have to do it to a brand new handset it can't be good news.

I'd suggest uninstalling battery monitor. I had installed it on my g2x and immediately saw my battery percentage drajning more quickly. Probably because its always running in the background.
The best tip I can give for better battery life is to minimize what you allow to run in the background. Get rid of any task killers, set Facebook/Twitter/Email/etc to sync less frequently, turn off wifi if you're not using it so its not scanning for networks, and so on.
Also install juice defender from the Market. Its free. It has greatly increased my battery life.

I installed the Plus version because it allows wifi control. I just use the default settings except I change so it doesn't disable wifi. I do that because I use wifi calling at home so I dont want Juice Defender turning off my wifi. I always turn it off manually when I leave the house anyway.

Yea Balanced Settings is good if you don't mind it managing your wifi too. In the Plus version I selected Customize instead of Balanced. The only thing I changed was the wifi setting. Install "Extended Controls" and place a widget for the flashlight on one of your homescreens. I just tried my flashlight and it works, my battery is at 7% right now, with Power Saver Turned Off. This way you don't need to install any more flashlight apps, you have flashlight toggle ability with one touch from a homescreen, plus you have an awesome app that does A LOT more than just toggle on your Rear Camera LED.
Also, Extended Controls is just absolutely awesome to have because of the ability to customize functionality widgets to the fullest. A must on any and every android device that I own.

Just bought it per your recommendation - I can only agree, the Extended Controls are great: A perfect addition to HTCs built-in "Quick Settings" in the notification drawer.
Maybe once more people have S-OFF developers can tweak this to run at low battery settings, Probably some Smali editing
Anyone know a real fix for this yet?
My Desire HD won't use the flashlight in Camera modus when battery is below 15% while the energysave option in settings is turned off.
Can it be hacked to below 5% ???
Latest leedroid kernel doesn't force torch of until it hits 15% but forcing it down to 5% would be silly as the phone powers off at 5%
Sent from my Sensation using Cyanogenmod
Good find - solved more than one problem for me
Thats stupid, my DesHD shuts down until all the way to 1% left.
Not 5%...
If I still have 5% left, I bet I can take a guick picture with flashlight and still have 30 to 60 min. left off battery power, enough to check incoming messages.
(maybe not to check facebook or twitter with 3G or make 30 min calls, but plenty juice to answer a phone and tell the other person where I am, or sent a reply message of where i am at the time. 5% is more than you think. I once had 1% left, and I closed all backgroundrunning programs and killed the internet connection and the phone went on for almost another hour!!)
So killing the flashlight for taking photos from still having 15% juice is lame.
Besides, as Android is socalled "open source" and userfriendly, they should let the users decide (with an options/settings menu?) if the flashlight should be killed at 15% or not.
Not the developers.

I need to re-calibrate. I was getting 30+ hours on stock for months. After installing a custom rom, I only got <20 hours until I recalibrated, then I was back up to ~30 for a couple weeks, but now it is back down to ~20. I hate how it seems like after you recalibrate a new phone once, you have to keep doing it. I also don't know why some people don't get anywhere near the awesome battery life my SK4G gives me (best of 7 android phones I have used).
Anyway:
Method 1) Fully charge to 100%. Reboot into recovery. Unplug. Clear battery stats. Do not re-plug until phone is dead (or at least almost dead). Better to let it charge to 100% before unplugging again. Then use as normal.
Method 2) Download "Battery Calibration" free from market. Then run it and follow it's instructions.

[Q]Battery drain due to HW problem?

I serched the forum but didn't find an answer to this problem...
I'm having a serious battery drain issue with my sensation. I have latest italian BB by OTA update 3.31.401.5
Last night i had the phone with like 80% battery left. Today, 8 hrs later, i go wake up the phone and doesn't wake, and doesn't even boots up. I connect the charger and i have to wait a couple of minutes before it responds to power button.
First thing i do is go and see battery consumption stats, and it displays like 2h57m of use, and 88% of power drained by screen. Now, i know for sure the screen didn't light up for at least 1h before i could get to sleep, and i had used it before to install some apps, play a little cut the rope and fruit ninja and stuff, it had been disconnected for at least 2hrs before i got to bed.
I think it's pretty odd, and i guess it could be an HW problem.
The phone is unrooted and all stock

yesterday 30 mins of call drained 20% battery, light use drained the battery in 8 hrs, use i did was 30 mins of call, 20 mins of gaming (a little alchemy and 7 lvls of angry birds space), 6 messages, 1 email. Rest of the time screen off. wifi on for like 10 mins tops, mobile data always off.

well i actually have not much of apps installed, and the only ones running in BG are media, google services, whatsapp, maps, touch imput.
Is it normal that with nearly no apps opened i have 309 MB of ram used?
Btw shouldn't be an app problem because i did an hard reset and the problem was still there
other info: the phone tends to get pretty warm. Not boiling hot but when it gets warm i.e. like after a phone call or a web browsing, it stays warm for like even half an hour later

Can someone explain this battery life ?

So I charged my phone to 100% last night an just let it sit. Here's what I got. I'm in deep sleep for sure but still I saw a linear decrease in battery. The phone isn't staying awake either. Is this from leaving Bluetooth on? Being connected to 4g instead of WiFi? Any ideas? This just baffles me since it seems everything is okay but still seeing a decline like that.
