No WiFi with Android Revolution HD 2.1.0 :-( - HTC Sensation

Hello,
sorry for posting this question here, but as a "new" user with less than 10 posts I'm not allowed to post in the developers-area.
I S-OFFed my new HTC Sensation, installed CWM 4.0.1.4, super-wiped it and flashed Revolution HD 2.1.0.
All seemed to work well, I can power on the phone and use everything on it - except that I've got really big problems getting a wifi-connection!
Before flashing Revolution HD I got a really strong wifi-connection to my home-WLAN with all bars lighted up. After going to Revolution HD it's mostly impossible to connect to my WLAN, only when moving next to the router I get one(!) single bar and a more than weak connection.
Does one of you guys have an idea what could be the problem?
I did nothing else than described above, I flashed nothing else...
Thanks in advance and best regards
cool400

Have you checked the md5 checksum before flashing?

Yes, I did, it was right - directly on the SD-card.
Is there another Radio-version that may solve my problem?
Or does this have nothing to do with the Radio?

did you flash the recommended radio on the Android Revolution HD 2.1.0 thread?

No, I only flashed the super-wipe and the ROM itself!
Where can I find the recommended Radio?
And: is this step reversible?
Regards
cool400

You can find it just below the downloadlink of the rom.
Yes you can reverse it. Read the instructions how to flash a radio.

Maybe there's another thing that could cause this issue:
I removed the back-case of my Sensation for having easier access to the SD-card!
All problems above occured without the case - maybe putting it back on the phone could solve my problem? Are there any antennas integrated in the case? I can test this not until this evening after work...
But is it advisable to flash the Radio-version in the first post anyway?
Best regards
cool400

Antennas are definitely built into the case. I don't know whether the wifi antenna is, but try putting it back on and see if that solves your problem. I'd do that before getting the new radio.

Thanks for your statement, I will definitley do this before flashing the new Radio!
If it works, is there any need for the new Radio-version? Does it make connection/stableness/quality/battery-life better?

Thanks for your really usefull comment ;-)
This helped me a lot finding a solution for my problem!
cool400

It works again
Putting the cover back on the phone solved my issue.
Is there any need for me now to flash the new Radio-version?

Today I tried to flash the new Radio from Revolution HD, but without success
I get the following error-message:
Code:
sending 'radio' (22177 KB)... OKAY [ 4.382s]
writing 'radio'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
I'm in Fastboot and connected via USB, sending the IMG seems not to be the problem...
Any ideas?

I suggest you try to flash in bootloader, not with adb (or whatever you are doing). It's also much easier this way
Swyped from my HTC Sensation

I followed this guide from mike:
Code:
--=[ How to flash a radio ]=--
This guide is for Windows users only! Your phone must be ENG S-OFF. Radio S-OFF is also highly recommended.
Requirements:
- HTC Sync
- A Windows PC
1. Connect your phone into a PC, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled
2. Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!

I'm guessing you have ENG S-OFF, so the issue isn't here. Well, here is how I did it:
1. Download the PG58IMG.zip file and put it in the root of the SD card
2. Go into bootloader (volume down + power)
3. When it asks you for update, press volume up to accept
4. After you flashed, make sure to delete/move the file from your card.
5. Done

Thanks for your fast replies.
But which PG58IMG.zip do you mean?
I've downloaded Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01.rar from mike's post!
BTW, I'm on S-OFF (done it mike's way).

Nice guide! Actually with the tool you linked you will get Radio S-OFF, but as you mentioned, the phone must also have ENG S-OFF (second link in my sig)
And one should really just add the C:\androidsdk\tools after everything in path, otherwise something really important might stop working.

No, not yet at least. Don't know why really, I just remember reading it wasn't possible. Once you've got your SDK setup and got your radio s-off and eng hboot, there really is nothing to doing it this way though.

ok, waiting for device is cause its waiting for your device to be in 'fastboot'.
when you first checked your device being connected, its when its on, and in 'charge only mode'. you type "adb devices" to check if your device has any driver problems.
next you turn your device off, take out batt (some may need like me), and boot into recovery with pressing the on button and the volume down button. go into fast boot. (Note: now, when you type adb devices, nothing will come up, but no worries, the computer has the tools necessary and is able to connect to it via fastboot."
now you do your fastboot commands and it should detect. cheers!

Yes, however I fixed the problem.
I opened up Device Manager on my PC

Went from Android 1.0 to My HTC.
Not sure why it was like this, everything was up to date

[Q] how to downgrade Desire S hboot 0.98.0002?

I recently bought a new Desire S which works great with me. I installed an update that upgraded my hboot from 0.98 to 0.98.0002. Now I need to s-off it using AlpharevX but it only supports 0.98. My question is: is there a way to downgrade it into 0.98? I followed another guide on the site that didn't help at all & didn't even provide the right rom. Any help
not sure but i think that u need to flash stock rom with 0.98.0000 then s-off ....maybe someone can provide hboot 0.98.0000 image
that's exactly what i've been hoping for. hope someone could do that

ok, thanks so much but I have a very silly question. How do I flash the .img? I know its a very silly one but I'm still a bit of a noob in Android
Reboot your phone into Bootloader and then choose Fastboot.
Open a cmd window, cd into your android sdk folder and then type:
fastboot flash hboot example.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
*replace example with the name of the img.
I did what you said but when I write "fastboot flash hboot saga_hboot_0.98.img" it displays:
{sending 'hboot' (1024 kb)...
OKAY [ 0.189s]
writing 'hboot'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.339s}
any idea what might be causing the signature check error?
I suggest you to flash a RUU and then S-OFF it.
Better and safer.

ok, steps?
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca1...0805U_38.03.02.11_M_release_177977_signed.exe
download this one and install. put ur phone on usb
u sure? i have a slow (but unlimited) net & what should i do after that, just run the installer & it will downgrade the hboot?
Exactly. It will replace everything: ROM, radio, hboot, etc.
L.E: Have you checked this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078497 ?
actually, yes. I've tried the following but it didn't work. Every time I reach step 10 it finishes but doesn't change anything. And I have another question but its out of the topic, if I flash Virtuous Unity ROM, will games & apps recognize the device as HTC Desire S & be compatible or what?
Yes, your device will be recognized as Desire S.
Ohh, that's a great relief. Thank you so much for your help up till now. Hope it works out in the end. Sadly, I won't be able to continue the process today & I'll have to continue tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll immediately post the result when I wake up & finish the process (probably I'll wake up here at about 8:30 - 9:00) & the download takes 30 min. so I'll post the result at about 11:00 - 11:30 in Romania .
Ohh thank you so MUCH. It worked!! Luckily I backed up all my things first. The most important thing is, my hboot is now 0.98.0000! Thanks a million again .
Really glad it all worked out nicely. Have a nice time testing ROMs !
Yeah, got Cyanogenmod & Virtuous Unity but liked Virtuous more. Anyway, thanks so much for all your help . As for anyone that needs to downgrade his hboot, I suggest that he downloads this program & it will do all the work: http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca1f...977_signed.exe. Not my fault if it bricked your phone or if it didn't work but it worked for me. & note that it will erase every thing on the device so back up first.

[Q] radio problems

when I try to install my radio it sends but it wont write please help I don't understand why.
What do you mean it sends but it won't write? What are you downloading and from where? What rom are you on? Are you s off?
I have successfully installed Android Revolution and I am attempting to install the radio that has been suggested to go with it. After downloading the radio and putting it in its own folder, on my computer, I open the "read me" portion of the radio file, and it looks as follows:
--=[ How to flash a radio ]=--
This guide is for Windows users only! Your phone must be ENG S-OFF. Radio S-OFF is also highly recommended.
Requirements:
- HTC Sync
- A Windows PC
1. Connect your phone into a PC, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled
2. Click "Start here". A black command prompt window will open
3. Type: "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Once your phone is in bootloader (white screen with text), type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
5. When the flashing completes, type "fastboot reboot"
6. Done. Enjoy!
I follow the step to bootload and when I type in "fastboot flash radio radio.img" it gives me this:
sending 'radio' (24960 KB)... okay [ 4.134s]
writing 'radio'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
I am confused about what I have done wrong. I have used other ROMs and Radios so I might have messed something up along the way.

how to flash a new radio rom desire s

Can someone explain or link me to somewhere that tells me how to update my radio version from 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M to 20.41.30.0818U_3817.07.00.19_M. This is the 1st time I will have done this so go gently. I need an idiots guide thanks
How to: Flash Radios
1. Download your Radio zip package.
2. Copy your Radio zip package to your SDcard root directory and rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
3. Turn off your phone and turn it back on by pressing volume down and power button together (You need to turn off fastboot under phone settings > power options).
4. Once you're in hboot, the bootloader will ask you if you want to install radio.img, just press yes. (Volume up means "YES", and volume down means "NO")
5. Once the radio flashing is complete press your power button once to reboot device. Done!
Note: You must delete your Radio zip package or rename it to something else when booting your phone after flashing new radio image since the bootloader will always try to flash if a PG88IMG.zip file is on your SDcard.

The important thing to note from the link provided is the confirmation of the m5dsum prior to the flashing of the radio; in fact you should always check this for any file that you flash not just radio's (ie ROMs etc) although as RADIO's have the most potential to render your phone useless it's imperative that you always check their m5dsum before flashing them, this is just to ensure that there's been no corruption during the download process.
You'll see other RADIO's which are not included within the post shown above from the main INDEX thread under the sub-section RADIO, these include two recently leaked ones...(see my sig for the latest).
Good luck.

md5sum is used to check if your file is corrupt
flashing radio is risky & doing something wrong or flashing corrupt radio can brick your device easily
so checking md5sum ensure that the file you downloaded isnt corrupt
(you should be able to find the original md5 sum in the thread where you got the radio to compare with that of your file)

YES, unless you're S-OFF you shouldn't attempt to update radio unless through an over the air upgrade from your phone network or from HTC.
how do I S off? and how likely am I to break it?

Start reading the sticky guides (which are the threads at the top) which are at the top of the Forums...
They should both assist in upping your general Android knowledge and informing you of the processes that you are considering going through.
Without sounding insulting I'd suggest that you spend the next few day even a week reading all this information until you have an actual understanding into what you are doing and what the full implications are.
You'll void your device's warranty by doing this so you need to understand what you're doing and why as opposed to blindly following the steps within a guide.
There are people here to assist.....but I believe that you need to understand

Can i Update this radio?http://hotfile.com/dl/129621795/c522912/PG88IMG-3821.08.00.24.M.zip.html for my DESIRE S or NOT? Please tell me, Because i have call quality(Sound) problem with MIUI 1.9.16 with Tiamat Kernel 1.1.3, so also tell me updating radio solves that issue or not?
Desperate Joe
Don't know where to start, but I have a bit of a headache with my phone. This is my first smart phone and just when I got used to it and began enjoying it, it looks like I've screwed it with an upgrade to ICS. It could be pure coincidence but my phone started constantly rebooting a few days after I upgraded it to Virtous Saga v1.0.0. I've tried several other ROMs in the meantime and I either couldn't install them properly or they gave me the same outcome, i.e. constant rebooting. Currently I'm on ICE DS v 4.3. The weird thing about it is that without a SIM in the phone, I don't get rebooting, but as soon as I put in my SIM card it starts again.
After spending hours looking through various forums, it looks like the constant rebooting is a fairly common problem with HTC phones. Many say that the problem is a faulty motherboard, but since it all started with me when I upgraded to ICS, I've read that it could be due to old radio version. I want to make sure this is not the problem, but I can't seems to be able to flash my radio with the above instructions. I've uploaded PG88IMG.zip onto my SD card and in the hboot I can see the message PG88IMG.zip being parsed but nothing seems to happen after that. Can anyone help?
With one of the radio updated I've downloaded the parsing message showed briefly and disappeared, but now, with another radio flash it gets stuck on that message! What do I do? I was told whatever I do I shouldn't take the battery out, but how do I end this?
Hey Desperate Joe
Haven't actually tried this, but we're about to go for gold... maybe it helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the post. It think I've combed through all XDADevelopers forums about this and some other elsewhere.
I've realised that my problem is to do with the fact that my phone is S-ON and it looks like there is no way to flash radio unless you have S-OFF.
If someone's managed to do it with S-ON I would dearly love to hear from them.
On S-ON you can update radio by placing a PG88IMG.zip with newer version in the SDcard and reboot to bootloader. It will flash.
The problem is that you cannot to revert if it is not working. You will need to downgrade the entire system.

Yes, I've tried that. Bootloader gets stuck with the message "PG88IMG.zip parsing". After a couple of hours I took out the battery and rebooted. The radio wasn't flashed, but luckily at least the phone wasn't bricked.
In your statement you seem to be fairly confident that should work so I'll try again. And don't worry if I brick my phone I will blame only myself :silly: since I can't work with a phone that keeps restarting with a sim card and the problem was created in the first place by me upgrading to ICS.
How many times do I need to fu** up to get that saying "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!"

You have to check the android-info.txt for your cid number. If it is not there it will not flash

I've dropped PG88IMG.zip onto the sdcard and started bootloader. Again I get the message Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip] and there is a vertical blue bar on in the top right corner which gradually goes up and disappears. This, I assume should signal it's been flashed, but the bootloader is stuck on Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip]. I've tried pressing UP, DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time without success so I took out the battery and started the phone again.
I've checked android-info.txt and the cid number is HTCCN701. How do I know that's ok?
My phone is unlocked SAGA PVT SHIP S-On HBOOT 2.00.0002 RADIO 3822.10.08.04_M EMMC-BOOT with 4EXT RECOVERY V2.2.7 RC5
Reboot to bootloader. Connect to PC and type:
fastboot getvar cidnum
The radio you are trying to flash is Chinese. It will not work unless your phone is Chinese too.
Try the one from the leaked RUU

That was silliy of me flashing Chines radio
I've typed the instruction and got reply: cidnum: O2___001 finished. Total time 0.002s
I assume this is because it is an O2 phone
After that I've flashed this radio: Radio.......... 20.71.30.0833U_3831.17.00.16_M
The messages I get are:
SD Checking
Loading ... [PG88DIAG.ZIP]
No image!
Loading ... [PG88DIAG.NBH]
No image r wrong image!
Loading ... [PG88IMG.ZIP]
Parsing ... [PG88IMG.ZIP]
After the last message was gone I've rebooted but I'm still with the old radio. Do you have any other aces up your sleeve?
Your help is greatly appreciated
Nope, sorry.

Is my Desire S bricked? [SOLVED]

I bought a Desire S off eBay. It had Froyo Orange UK on it.
Yesterday I started flashing it (whilst having a couple of drinks!)
I got it to S-OFF, got Revolutionary working and had a rooted Gingerbread ROM on it, but I cant remember which variant.
I don't have an Orange SIM so I started using various methods to unlock the SIM, getting more frustrated and drinking more.
I read hudreds of threads (not too methodically) and eventually decided I needed S-ON so I have got it back to an S-ON state.
By this time I was drunk and cannot remember if it booted after I S-ON'ed it and therefore cant tell if I have USB Debugging enabled.
I think the bootloader may be locked but it boots into the white HBOOT screen. There is no Recovery that works so I am stuck with a blank page.
If I try to RUU Orange UK or any stock ROM on it I get different errors half way through.
I have tried to flash a new HBoot onto it but get a signatire error in fastboot utility. Revolutionary no longer works.
I'm lost. I'm going for a walk!
You tried HTC unlock bootloader ? Then flashing a new recovery?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk
Maybe unlock it via htcdev.com, flash new recovery with fastboot
fastbooot flash recovery PathToRecoveryImg
...do it sober dude ^^
Well....first dont drink n flash.
Then try the following:
Flash a new recovery via android flasher.I suggest the 4ext touch. For me is the best out there.
Then wipe the device ccompleteley including cache ,data, system etc.
Then flash the rom you want.
After that reboot into bootloader and choose fastboot.
Extract the.same rom that you flash somewere in your pc.Copy the boot.img and paste it in you platform tools in sdk dir.
Open cmd.
Connect your device.
Assuming your sdk is to c:/ and named for ex android-sdk-windows then type.
Cd c:/android-sdk-windows/platform-tools
Fastboot devices(see if the device identified)
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Done.
Then reboot your device
Hope that helps

+1 for that @apx
While i have all the sympathy for you @Nezbert, this is the wrong place to put your questions.
In case the alcohol hasn't metabolized completely, let me put it in clear loud words - "This is the Development forum... NOT the Question and Answer Forum. Your thread does not belong here. The Q&A thread is custom built for exactly these kind of threads"
Thread reported for relocation. I hope you understand.
Probably why he thinks he had froyo on it...

Might have been a super secret prototype by HTC R&D
Haha. All jokes aside, does the phone actually work? Maybe he pulled battery?

This sounds like exactly what I did mate, I believe it was a combination of incorrect goldcard and trying to install a foreign RUU -- which Revolutionary bootloader with S-OFF will allow.
check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464513
I managed to solve it, but I needed to borrow a phone to do it. Check out my solution post on Page 2
Actually I might as well just tell you what I think will work here.
1. Borrow a friends android phone, any phone should do I believe.
2. Download Goldcard Helper from the market, use it to get the CIDs of the memory on your phone. One of these is the SD card, you might as well copy both down but for me MMC2 was my SD card. The app by default copies the other one when you use the Menu > Copy function, so don't use that. Go to the website and generate the goldcard.img file.
3. Use GoldCardTool (attached) to patch your SD card.
4. Pop it into the phone and boot to HBOOT and select fastboot again
5. If you've unlocked the HBOOT via HTCDev.com, lock it again before trying an RUU! If you don't have fastboot.exe it's in the ADB-Windows.zip attached... type "Fastboot oem lock" to lock the HBOOT.
6. Run the RUU for Europe - RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed worked for me
That should do it. Hope it does mate!
I just tried using the HTC Dev unlock bootloader site and at the first fastboot command I get:
...
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.006s]
finished. total time: 0.007s
The command was for 'fastboot oem get_identifier_token'
I know fastboot is connected because if I issue 'fastboot reboot' the phone reboots.
Looking at your other posts now. Thanks.
I'm gonna use my Sony Ericsson Xperia to download the goldcard app and try that. I'll report back in a bit. Fingers crossed!
FrakEarth, thank you!! Your advice worked to the letter!!
The only thing I didn't do was the fastboot oem lock part, as I couldn't get fastboot to work.
Now I am kind of back to square one. I have a working OS on an Orange UK phone but when I put my giffgaff/o2 SIM in there isa no prompt to enter an unlock code. I have bought a code that goes with my IMEI but I dont know how to enter it.
Is there an easy way to SIM unlock this?? I will search the site.
Thanks again FrakEarth!!
One more question...
Now that Android has booted and created all it's driectories on my SD card will it still be a Goldcard, or will it have been overwritten into a standard SD?
One more question!
Where do I click to edit the thread title to [SOLVED]?

I think that you still have the files needed for the GoldCard but don't bother, it's not something that will create any problems. As I recall my old SD Card when I used it as a Goldcard, I installed my desired Android RUU but there were still some files in the SD from the Goldcard utility.
