I'm looking to install the latest OTA whenever its released, and my question is...
If I flash the OTA with S-OFF, would I be able to simply flash the root package (taken from S-OFF guide) afterward to "perm-root" the ROM?
Also, will flashing the OTA with S-OFF cause any conflicts, such as reverting to S-ON? Or possibly brick?
Thanks in advance

I would suggest waiting for a rooted OTA to be posted here in the forum just to be on the safe side.

I think he means, you need recovery as it was PRE-ClockworkMod. Any threads?
(correct me if I'm wrong)
Then that's a different matter altogether. Will need to figure that out. Does that involve unrooting the device after recovery?

I'm going to do this tomorrow to update. It should work.
So did it work
- Backup everything using CWM and Titanium Backup.
- Install the RUU to get back to Stock Recovery. (You'll loose all settings/apps/SMS/etc..)
- Install your OTA update.
- Restore everything using Titanium Backup.
This should work for any of you who has CWM Recovery. If you already have Stock Recovery, then you're ready to go. You don't need to flash a new rom by the RUU.
It's not the root that is causing the problem, it is the CWM Recovery.
Keep in mind, flashing a RUU may brick your device, I take no responsibilities of any damage that may be caused to your device
I just discovered a new method, tried it and it worked.
Take a look at this.
so my computer crash and I don't have my stock ROM anymore or any of my files.......can any one provide Me with a Tmobile US stock ROM and radio? Plus I was on 2.3.3..... I'm planning on switching my phone for a new sensation

To my understanding RUU is an executable file that must be run from a pc. There is a flashable 2.3.4 OTA posted in developement. Flash in CWM Recovery.
Here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226085
I can't find one for 2.3.3 stock, but the link is for the T-Mobile version OTA.
Haha really? That's funny.....the only.thing I did from,a PC was the rooting part......everything else I thought I could do it from my phone lol. That explains.my battery drain lol

You would first have to extract the rom from the ruu file and then extract the hboot from that. Idk if it is in a flashable form tho...

Got to ask, why would you want to ?
Because I am trying to send the phone back to HTC. When I rooted the phone is used the revolutionary method. Now after installing the stock Ruu and thanks using the phone back to s-on it says locked in bright pink letters. After reading the forums it says i have to flash the stock hboot from the stock RUu
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
wouldn't just running your stock ruu flash everything back to how it was? hboot and all
I have tried that it did until I updated the ota then now it says locked in the pink lettering and the hboot is 1.7.000

Can you still get HTC updates even with S-off, but with stock rom installed?
Or can HTC detect S-off and will not update?
Yes, as long as you don't install a custom recovery.

And if you do have a custom recovery, don't fret.
A short time after the OTA comes out it'll be available for download so you can install via ClockworkMod. That's the power of XDA
You have any idea when OTA comes out?

Your guess is as good as ours.
There is this which states that we should get it in January. My guess they may start a rollout in the middle of February.

I have seen this already on this forum but im too stupid to find it so here goes:
I would like to flash a custom rom now but then in a week/two weeks when htc rolls the official update to ics, id like to have the official htc update, how do i do that?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Just flash the official update when it comes out, it will fully wipe the phone and bring it up to date with all the latest HTC bells&whistles.

Just don't root stay on stock. Easy answer.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Or I suppose you could flash a custom ROM now, and then, when HTC releases the official ICS ROM, restore your nandroid backup of the original HTC Rom, restore the apps using Titanium Backup, and then update using the official HTC update (which will be OTA I guess?).
That would work right?
