ENG S-OFF Demo unit, flashing to "stock" ROM - HTC Sensation

Hi all,
I have a demo device that is ENG S-OFF and also rooted out of the box.
My firmware version is 1.28.0.0 and there is currently no OTA updates available for this device.
I live in Finland and I know that the 2.3.4 (1.45.xxx) is available for the "Finnish" ROM. Am I able to somehow flash this current firmware to a Finnish (or Nordic for that matter) without the possibility to brick my phone?
If I get an S-ON device with it, I dont mind, I just want the most recent updates for this baby?
Sorry for the stupid quiestion

Just change the CID to 11111111 and flash the stock 1.35.401.1 RUU

Or just go to the development section and flash ANY 2.3.4 ROM you want .......... you have S-Off..........................

Flash ClockworkMod and you can install the most recent updates that way - no need for OTA.

That easy? Thank you for all the help!

New firmware RUU...

hi guys i've a question for you: my Desire S is s-off, root but still with stock rom (and 4Ext recovery)...i know that i cannot do the OTA update so i have to choose 2 ways:
1) downgrade to s-on with hboot 0.98 and 1.28 RUU stock rom, then do the ota updates
2) flashing the rom 2.10 with RUU without downgrade
here is my doubt: if i flash now the RUU 2.10, the update will succeed but the device will turn back to s-on without root or the device will result blocked as doing the OTA update?
and when it will be available RUU 2.10 prerooted? i could use the RUU with the device S-off, maintaining root?
Why apply the update?
Stay well clear of it, as it will just limit your devices future functionality and remove future options that are currently open to you, if you want the update then supply a custom that contains it.
Never apply ota updates once rooted

If you make the update while s-off you will end up in a bootloop for sure.
If you need the S-OFF just flash a custom Sense 3 ROM (there are some almost stock like, without the bloatware in the index thread)
If you need the Stock update first download and flash a RUU for your region/brand with a previous version, then update. But this will turn you back to S-ON
Ok thank you fota is not for me right now

[Q] Update & Debrand Desire S

Hello, I'm new to the Android scene having come from the iPhone so have a few questions before updating my HTC Desire S.
I would like to install the basic non-branded version of Android 2.3.5 with Scenes 3.0.
What I have is a HTC Desire S on Orange UK, Android 2.3.3, Sense 2.1, software 1.47.61.1
Now before the update came out I rooted my phone with Revolutionary and am S-OFF
with HBOOT-6.98.1002 and RADIO-3805.06.02.03_M I also installed superuser and I was about to install a custom ROM to get rid of the Orange bloatware.
But would I be able to achieve this by just installing a RUU .exe, ie this one ?
RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed.exe
or do I need to find the latest Europe ROM and flash with ROM Manager?
apologies for my ignorance I've been reading the forum but I'm still a newbie to Android, I would like to get some advise so I don't brick my phone

First if you run this RUU or any non brand specific over your branded phone you will brick it.
Second: using RUU /a proper one/ will bring you back to Stock, and you will lose your root and S-OFF. But in your case running RUU will brick the phone because you have a Revolutionary bootloader /6.98.1002/ which has a protection and cannot be overwritten with RUU.
Third - custom ROM is a modified software (which is always rooted) that can be flashed via custom recovery (look at the sticky guide for beginners) The RUU is a Stock software (used in the past by HTC for updates)
Anyway if you want to debrand you can do this with a Goldcard and the RUU, mentioned by you but an earlier version like 1.28.401.1 or 1.47.401.4 (they can be unlocked with Revolutionary, the latest - 2.10.401.8 cannot), then S-OFF and root again/flash a custom ROM.
You can use the latest with a Goldcard, but then to gain root you will have to use htcdev.com to unlock the bootloader (which will send info about this to HTC and probably void your warranty - during the process you have to confirm your agreement with that)
Thanks for the quick reply and heads up on the Goldcard.
So after some reading on the Goldcard I take it that all I have to do is make myself a SD Goldcard and have it in the phone, then run the 2.10.401.8 RUU this will install Android 2.3.5 + Sense 3 unbranded but automatically S-OFF & un-root the phone.
(I'm not worried about losing these at this time)
but do I need to change anything about my Revolutionary bootloader "6.98.1002" before doing the above ?
Cheers

Yes you should replace your bootloader with an Engineering one like 0.98.2000 (link in my signature) or 2.00.2002
you can use Android flasher for that (link in the Index thread)
Then I suggest you to use an older European version to debrand (1.28 or 1.47) instead of RUU and use custom ROMs in order to keep the S-OFF and root
There are plenty of custom ROMs based on the latest official Sense 3.0 that you can flash instead the original (and you will have no bloatware on it)
Thanks for the info amidabuddha. I will give it a try tonight.
Just a small clarification if there is a term confusion:
You should follow this procedure ONLY IF you want to debrand the phone completely (i.e. change the version to an unbranded of all system components: hboot, misc, etc.) on low level
In case that under debrand you mean clean OS, without carrier specific software you need just to flash any Sense 3.0 based custom ROM, flash with ROM Manager and you are done. Then if you don't like the Orange splash screen you can replace it with Android flasher to another. Basically there is no difference whether you are branded or not to use custom ROMs. Branded means that your system version will stay Orange with any ROM running on it.
So you will stay branded and you want to return to Stock someday you will have to use the Orange RUU (but this is healthier in order to keep your warranty)

ICS OTA will not install after de-branding: Something about modified software.

Hi,
I de-branded by Vodafone HTC Sensation using the following ROM:
ruu_pyramid_htc_europe_1.50.401.1_r_radio_10.58.9035.00u_10.15.9035.02_2_release_228602_signed
And I first used SuperCID to install flash this ROM and then changed it to HTC__032 which is Europe unbranded after it was installed. However, when I try to install the ICS update, I get a message:
"We have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software. For your protection, we cannot update your phone. Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone. If you did not modify the system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at www.htc.com"
Now what do I do? Can anybody give me the official HTC Vodafone Australia ROM so I can go back?
If I used SuperCID (1111111), then it says "there are no update available for your phone".
This sucks.
Change your cid to HTC_001 and you should be able to get the proper update for your current rom.

Didn't work. Same message.
Never mind. I did find my original Vodafone stock ROM and flashed back. Now the question is...should I S-ON or is ok just to leave it at S-OFF? Will it affect the ICS update whenever Vodafone decides to launch it?

The reason its giving you the message in the OP is custom recovery or custom rom. If your on your stock gingerbread rom then just flash stock recovery in hboot. Being s off or rooted doesn't stop you getting the update.

Just use a RUU to go back to stock?

RUU names

Hello,
I want to know which RUU i should install if i want to get to sense 3.0 GB 2.3.5. I want the FOTA firmware which i got on my phone. I live in India.
RUU_Saga_hTC_Asia_India_1.47.720.1_Radio_20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199605_signed.exe

which one is the one i need??
It depends on which phone you've bought, for which region. Check the CID of your phone - "fastboot getvar cid" in FASTBOOT mode.
P.S. I might be wrong, but I remember both of the mentioned RUUs being Sense 2.1.

RUU needs to be run / executed (.exe) on your PC with your phone connected to the PC via USB.
The Recovery will go back to the stock HTC Recovery.
After flashing, you will loose Root , & will be S-ON with the 2.xx Hboot. Also, you will be able to receive OTA updates from HTC.
Regarding, the rest of your querries, I suggest you read stuff from the INDEX, There are a lot of threads about returning back to Stock & Stuff...
