[Q] audio level in talk - HTC Sensation

hi all,
I got the update to the latest android yesterday on my htc sensation. smooth upgrade, happy with the new stuff. I did notice though that the audio level of incoming audio was incredibly soft when i tried to talk to my wife through the new voice/video chat of GTalk. Did anyone else notice this? any fixes?
regards

I'm still on stock 2.3.3 but I'm thinking too that talk volume (normal phone, not google voice) is rather low, at least compared to my iphone 3gs.
Can this be fixed?

I believe that is a kernel feature that may or may not be able to be adjusted but if you find something let us all know that is the only negative of this beast

Muffled Voice?

I just got my Sensation like 3 days ago and i have had a few friends when talking to them tell me i come in muffled and have a hard time understanding me. Has anyone else have thier friends say this? I would think with the dual mics and noise canceling this phone would have perfect voice quality. And is it possible for the rom/radio to affect this?
Are u running the latest fota

Virtuous Sensation v.1.1.2
I see they release 1.1.3 today but i dont see anything about voice quality.
Is it ok on stock / another rom

A friend who called me right after the OTA upgrade said I sounded terrible, and that I never sounded terrible before. "S" sounds are impossible to hear. I mean impo ible.
O, when I call omebody, thi i what I ound like.
I would think this topic would have some legs. Either everybody here is on a custom rom or everybody is too busy playing with the update to notice voice calls are crappy on the other end.

Yajinni, I've had the same problem with my HTC Sensation since purchasing it 3 weeks ago. People tell me I sound muffled and like I'm under water. And other times it's clear for a moment then goes muffled again.
I'm still also looking for a solution and will post here if I find one. Please let me know if you manage to resolve it too.
Best regards,
Lex
Do you guys have some kinda protector case on your phone? My old lady did before and I couldn't ever understand what she was saying when it was on her phone

when just using the phones mic my wife cant hear me, she says I am muffled too. 2.3.4
hi guys, i am on mike's Revolution ROM, with the same muffled voice quality as described. It may not be something easily detected (since you can't hear your own voice!) but it is definitely a real problem.
Desperately searching for a solution, if there is one.

in case anyone is interested... voice quality issues with the previous radios/RILs have vanished with the new base!
Yes me too, muffled voice on both my Sensations so far, although the second one is marginally better.

[Q] Sensation bluetooth fix?

I connected my motorla s9-hd bluetooth headphones to my sensation, and it constantly skips, so I thought it was the headphones. So i bought a Platonics bluetooth ear piece and it does the same thing.. They both work fine when the phone is 2 feet from the ear pieces. But if it's in my pocket or my hands are around it it breaks up. I read about the "grip of death" on this phone, and was wondering if anyone had a solution. I called HTC and they said they have no fix. Does anyone elses Sensation do this? Thanks, Nikko
Well HTC has some weird BT stacks, that could be the problem, but blue-tooth will always be effected by obstructions. I too have a s9-hd and ill try it out to see if i get the same problem.
I have the exact same issue. The headphones work great when connected to my MacBook, but when connected to my Sensation they constantly skip and cut out. I am waiting for CM7 as it should have better Bluetooth stacks.

I talked to some people nd they said the phones Bluetooth and WiFi antennas are behind the battery cover and that's why hands interfere with it.. I know obstructions will interfere with it, but your hands and pockets shouldnt

I'm having the same problem with my phone. I can't get a reliable or even a passable connection on either of my headsets(S9 & Blueant T1) or my car stereo. The bluetooth on this phone is an absolute JOKE. It's barely functional & is easily the worst bluetooth performance of any phone I've ever had. It will pair & connect but I can't even turn my head while streaming audio without it skipping & cutting out, and that's with it just sitting on my desk in front of me, not being touched at all. I can't put it in my pocket or get more than 10 feet from it without it disconnecting completely either. I've tried various roms including CM7(the Kang build) & the problem persists with every one. I've been using my old HD2 for the past 2 days & both headsets work just fine with it so I know it's definitely the phone. This is absurd, I didn't pay $400 for this damn thing(early upgrade) just to NOT be able to use a common feature that even the cheapest dumbphones can manage to do right. T-Mo offered me a G2X when I called to request a replacement yesterday & I chose another Sensation just b/c I already have so many accessories for it, but if the new phone has the same problems I'm just gonna send it back & take the G2X. I think this phone just might be the end of my run with HTC >:|

Yes, there was no difference at all. Its definitely a design flaw. I ended up sending the refurb back anyway cause the damn earpiece speaker died in the middle of a phone call after 1 day.
Im gonna keep the sensation just cause I do have so much stuff for it, but as soon as the Hercules comes out I'm jumping the HTC ship. I'm done with their form-over-function BS. I'll take an ugly, 'plasticky' phone that works well over a solid, pretty one that's full of glitches >:/
What ROM are you running? I have a motorola s305 Bluetooth headset, and I experienced the skipping issue on the stock ROM. After I switched to a ROM with less garbage running in the background and/or an overclocked kernel, the problem went away. I think the problem stems from a busy CPU.
Android Revolution (3.1.0), Insert Coin (2.2.5 sse w/bricked kernel 0.91) and Cyanogen Mod 7 Alphas 1, 2, 4 and 6 have all played back by music with less or no skipping. Insert Coin is the best for me.
I am using mike's 3.6.1 de Rom

Also want to put this out there. I was reflashing a few things and tried out the older faux kernels and such and came across that the kernel actually borked my bluetooth all together. I tried pairing and nothing worked. I rebooted a few times to no avail. I reverted to stock kernel and now all works and bt still works fine for me.

I've had some odd problems like that too. I go back and forth between CM7 alphas and insert coin and sometimes on switching back to IC (by restoring a NAND backup with working bt) bt is just broken. I can sometimes get it to work by deleting my headset from the "pairing" list. Not quite the same as your problem, I know, but it does seem like bt is sensitive to changes in the kernel. Like I said before, bricked 0.91 at 1.53gHz works with effectively no skipping (only ocassional delays on locking the screen).
It skipped for me with the stock Rom as well. If its directly in front of me it works fine.. also (altittle off subject) how is everyone's battery life. On the new de mine is horrible! 3.2 with the dual core patch was awesome

I contacted T-Mobile for a replacement and they said no because its a known issue and there working to fix it.. so well see!

I never had that short range problem that you are describing. Worked fine on sense based roms. But I do know that htc uses screwy bt drivers. I switched to cm7.1 and I believe they are the normal bt drivers for android. You might give it a try and see if perhaps your range increases or whatever other problems go away.
ya i have same problem put phone in pocket = bluetooth sucks

Had to abandon the Sensation

I had to go back to using my Blackberry curve after using the Sensation 4G for about 7 months. There are two problems. First is the ring volume. With the volume turned all the way up I can't hear the phone ring if there is even moderate background noise. If the phone is in my pocket I can feel the vibration, but in the holster I can't.
The second is that the phone will sometimes just quit. It will not make or receive calls and I have to pull the battery to get it to operate again. T-Mobile replaced the SIM card and that didn't help. I rooted the phone and installed the Sensation XE ROM, but the problem still persists.
The last straw came yesterday when I missed three important calls. I'm not sure if I didn't hear it ring or if it had one of those black outs, but whatever the reason I can't afford to miss calls like that. So I got the old Blackberry out, changed my service with T-Mobile and put it in operation.
I've spent many hours on the phone with T-Mobile tech support and they are unable to correct the problem. I'm not going to send it back for replacement because I did that with a Blackberry 8220 Pearl flip and after 8 (yes 8) refurbished exchanges the phone still didn't work and I'm not going though that again.
Yay t-mobile

Well since you're not going to be using it. You should send it to me I'll just use Volume+ for the sound issue. I'll pm you my address.
Contact HTC and get them to fix it

I'll buy it off of you. My phone screen got cracked after 3 months...

It might be easier to just repair the screen yourself. Definitely cheaper and worth trying it out. There are some videos on youtube. I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts, but go to youtube and type in "HTC Sensation Screen Repair".
I have absolutely non of the issues you have stated. I also use this phone for business/personal and never had a "blackout" of missed calls. Maybe u had a bad device. I love my sensation.

I have had issues with missing calls when I had headphones plugged in. I had to go to accessibility and turn tty off. Not sure why it was on.
Also having the same issues, low ring volume. The speaker is pretty weak but turning SRS on in the music app and turning on the hearing impaired function really helps.
Maybe you need a hearing aid instead? I can hear my phone from the next room.
No point in this going on...

HTC HD2 Tmous Sensation (UrDroid 2.7) bad microphone in cellurar calls

Hi every1!
All my friends claim that my voice in cellurar calls either to high gain (overdrive) or too quiet.
They could not listen to me well.
Seems like that is sensation kernel issue 'cause 2.2 android worked well for me.
Does anybody got the same issue and has solution for that?
Thanks.

Call Audio Quality Issue

I have not had the best luck with Samsung in the past and decided to make the switch to HTC. After much deliberation I got the One X. The issue I now have is that the sound quality in calls will suddenly reduce to a 'garbble' and sound like a fax machine. The only way to attempt to solve the issue is to hang up and try redialing which does not always work. I have not moved from the spot, maintained good signal strength and after a few attempts will have success and a clear call. This is definitely a hardware/software issue with HTC as I NEVER had it with both Galaxy S1 & S2 phones.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Do not be 100% confident..things do change and the problem can be either at your end the network or the other end.
When was the last time you tried the same scenario with Galaxy ?
I had pretty crappy call quality on stock radio I played with all of them and finally found one that gave me clear calls.
I would head over to the radio thread and see who's using what in your area

It happens on almost every call. Of os bad I have to hang up and redial. This os a business phone so I need it to have good quality calls.

My Samsung has no issues. Just tried both phones while sitting in the same seat.

Maybe you have a defect? The call quality going from the GS2 Skyrocket to the HOX is night and day. The HTC sounds so much better. I'd take your SIM to an AT&T store, ask to put it in one of their display units, and see how it sounds. That or just make a test call from the unit itself. Most of them work (at least at my store).
The radio might also make a difference. Mine came with AT&T 1.85, and I noticed a reduction in quality when going to AT&T 2.20. o2's 2.29 is good, but still can't beat 1.85 for data speeds in my area.
