Whcih Custom Rom To Choose ? - General Questions and Answers

Hello , I am running ( Baseband vers I997UCKE3 Kernal 2.6.32.9 ) . I believe It's the infused ROM . now i don't know if there were any updates from the ROM or not and if so i am asking how to upgrade it ? Also asking which ROM you feel is the best one and most stable to choice from . I have been having a issue when i get a phone call after the light dims I can't get it to come back so i can end the call or do anything . so i would like to upgrade or put a new ROM on my infuse if there is any out . Or if you have a Suggested fix for this dim problem any help is appreciated ! thanks in advanced !

Check out the Rom Manager (available in the market place) for a list of a bunch of rom. It also makes it really easy to try them out. Make sure you do a backup of your current rom (supported through the Rom Manager) so you can always go back if you don't like it.

thanks for the reply
I wasn't aware that it was that easy . I have rom manager installed . Is it really as easy as just clicking download and install ? is that safe ? I do install custom roms but i usually read instructions on all roms i install . I will look into that thanks

With the disclaimer that I have not used it on a table, I have used the Rom Manager on both my Moto Droid and HTC DINC. The one thing that I wish that I had done was moved my original NAND backups off of my phone for a backup. I had to jump through some hoops when I wanted to go back to stock.
If you do a NAND backup you should always be able to go back if something goes wrong. I would do some reading on each ROM just to make sure people haven't had any major issues with it, but I've never had any problem with switching ROMS. I'll usually change one a month just to try something new, and then usually go back to CM.

[Q] Can someone walk me through the steps on how to install CM7 on my Huawei Ascend?

Hello XDA fourm people! First of all, I want to say thank you to all the devs out there working hard to get us nice things on our phones
I am a noobie at flashing custom roms so I need a bit of help. I have a cricket Huawei Ascend running 2.1 update 1. I recently read about the CM7 rom that has been succesfully ported over to the ascend but I have no idea where to even start. My phone IS rooted using z4root, but i really want to install CM7.
I know you have to do a nandroid back up and then used clockwork mod? I have somewhat of an idea of what these things do, but I dont know how to use them or where to get them. Any help would be appreciated.
Lol and I know that some of you are looking at this rolling your eyes, but I'm just new and trying to get the hang of it.

They make it where almost anyone can do this so if you have further questions feel free to ask as I have been bricking my phone and reflashing it back to normal since I bought it lol...also you might look into getting multiple custom ROMS at that same site as one is not really better than the other so you'll want to check out all of em at some point
Myself I have flashed Icarus 1.1 and CM7-Ascend-04052011 (also flashed the nightly release of this but just for a recovery reason which failed) I would suggest Icarus 1.1 if you want an extremely stable ROM that runs off the current system you have on your phone. CM7 is still a little unstable but I run it as an everyday driver because it uses 2.3.3 gingerbread and it also allows for system overclocking to 710mhz without the use of third party apps. Like I said though, test drive them all and have fun with it. Just make sure you make a factory back up and a back up directly after each launch of flashing just in case something does go wrong you can also go back to the bulky OS your running now ;-)

Thank you! I followed a thread that showed me how to flash CM7. It is buggy and unstable, but I love it! I've wanted to flash Icarus too, but i think Im going to play around with CM7 for a bit and see how it works out.

flash guide?

Hi
im new to android ..
i own a ideos u8150.........and i have rooted it with z4 root
I also have managed to install clock world mod 3.0.2.4 i flashed it through pc (works perfectly)
now i want to change my stock rom ..i' heard ideos HD and droniX are good roms
i'd like to install droniX 0.6 raw ginger ..
but can anyone help me in flashing the rom i need a guide..
also how can i make full backups so i can revert to my stock rom anytime i want..
Does switching to custom roms affect baseband of my mobile ..
because of a picture i saw in a blog that says "baseband version :unknown" in mobile settings .
i have been a apple user and to jailbreak you need to preserve your basebands so is there anything like that in android
i have also read that after flashing dorinX .6 many see a black screen ..how can i prevent that..
i've also installed rom mangaer free version from market but its useless because everytime press any option it tells me to install colckworld mod and when i press install a list of phones comes up but u8150 is not in the list only 7 options.......
Thankyou
go in, go to backup and back it up, then take the .zip and make sure it is on your SD, and install from .zip, if it doesn't work you can revert, and if you like it you can keep it. Also you should get Appextractor, you can recover all your apps and data, from an old back up.

[Q] Planning to root and put a custom rom on a friends phone

Hi there, my friend is coming round soon and I was planning to give it a custom rom
Now, I've done this type of stuff before (on my nexus) I just want to see how you would do it for this samsung phone
Now, what recoveries can you get? I use 4EXT on mine
And, can anybody send me to a stable and up-to-date rom that can be used everyday and has nearly no issues? I need one without all the samsung stuff, just a normal default android one
And, how would I go by rooting the phone?
On mine, I used the zergrush exploit, does it work for this phone??
If you want one with everything working, then use the Froyo roms. CM7 is under development. The major bugs are bluetooth and youtube hq. Leaving that, even thats useable. It's even better than Froyo.
I suggest you to try either Kyorarom or Kyrillos v9.6. Both of them are froyo based, pre-rooted, and have other mods to make it even more faster than a stock one.
Happy flashing!

Thanks, and how do I go about flashing the rom, would I have to root it first?
No need.
This is something to good to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414
BTW to root the phone use super one click root (or sth like that )
Ah, I get it now, thanks
Just one more question, does ODIN delete the phones data before installing the rom?
You have to wipe all your data after flashing(or not if from Froyo to Froyo)
I mean from recovery. ODIN don't delete user data
I exactly I don't know the working of odin, but after flashing you are directly taken to the recovery and advised to wipe data and factory reset.

Rooting STAR N9589

It's coming from China so I imagine there will be a few annoying icons but nothing major.
I want to root the phone.
Then install a CFWM & Backup Original Stock Rom
I don't plan on using anything other than the orginal stock rom however one day if I fancy a play and mess it up I can roll back.
The main thing I carer about is the root feature.
Anyone suggest any tutorials I cant find any specific for this phone just copys of roms from need rom, I need to know how to root and instal CFWM first!
Also can I chose what rom to boot when powering on, almost like running it dualm boot, one for work and one for play?
Thanks
