Focus mango build - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a Samsung focus specific mango build? I searched the forum and can't find it. it seems like they are all HTC.
If there please direct me there.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

the thread for the 7720 build is a generic rtm build that will work on the focus.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215501

Confirmed, I updated my Focus v1.3 last week with minimal effort. Just make sure to remove music and videos off your phone to save time/time out error during the backup process.

yes, it seems like they are all HTC.

I have a post over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224139 that shows how to get a Focus updated to Mango keeping the unlock. I had issues with my Diagnosis app closing when I tried to use the GPRS manager to run the unlock provxml. Also getting past the timeout errors.. has to do with that .bat file.

Worked! Had to run the .bat file twice for the updates to take. Log said timeout error on restart. Second try worked great!!
No Samsung Update for me, and no issues with the updated Diagnosis. Unlocked too. MMS working as well.
Thank you!

MS Tag Reader for HD2

Hello, please find attached MS Tag Reader beta, which works OK with HD2, and does not suffer from the following issues:
- green box during camera initialization
- rotated camera preview

This guy is a genius. Microsoft tag, that doesnt show camera correctly on any windows mobile device, for the first time works...

Where did you get it from, did you edit/fix it yourself.?
Actually, I had sent them an ordinary bug report, but thanks to the favorable star constellation I received almost instant reply with kind request of beta testing. So, after their development storm and my checks of a few more versions, I was satisfied with the one posted in the first post, and reported it back as working OK with the HD2.
The whole thing took about two hours only, but I was as surprised as you are now with its result
Well I downloaded it a few days ago from gettag.mobi and it works fine? The image is mirrored but no green box or anything.
That's quite possible. After testing, MS has asked me for proper user agent strings for HD2 phone - so I assume that this version has already became official and can now be downloaded from their site. At the time I first posted it here you couldn't get it anywhere else, as it was a fresh build.
EDIT - I read your response wrong. So you're saying that with official version, the image is still rotated? Then please try the version in the first post. Also, camera green box (initialization error) may or may not occur to you - I think it may also depend on ROM version or installation of the HTC camera hotfix.

hi thanks for your post...u r a fantastic guy.... i think he shld use ur cab for the installation rather than from mobi site....
No problem.
I'm glad I could help.
thanks for sharing
thanks czbird.
I have been searching for this for some time, posted of forums and emailed tech support of both parties, but neither MS nor HTC have offered a solution.
Obviously my constellations are less favourable than yours.
Lets hope they admit to a solution soon. So far as I can see they do not have a versioning system nor any build news on their download site.
Tag Reader problem
Hi,
When I open the new version of Tag Reader my soft key choices are [left-history] + [right- menu], yet the reader requires you to click 'enter' to complete the read/scan. I can't find an enter option.
What am I doing wrong guys?
Got email from Microsoft Tag Team a couple of days ago to say that they now have a new file to download.
I created this tag which when i just tested, identified my phone and offered to download the cab file.
Tag works fine for me. Jumps to the link as soon as the tag is within the photo boundaries. Automatic, no need to press anything.

You may have a wrong version, for a phone with a keypad. On my HD2 I have never had to click anything to read a tag. As soon as it gets into the right area in the picture, the tag link is launched.
Many thanks! The official dl wasn't working for me, but the link in the OP worked like a charm.
i downloaded the latest version from MarketPlace (v3), it doesn't work. It can't initialize the HD2 camera.
disappointed.
I got the new version from gettag.mobi, and guess what? It still has screen rotation issue. What gives?
So, you're claiming you sent a bug report to Microsoft, and then they immediatly called their entire mstag development team and created a new beta within 2 hours? Very believable. And I seriously doubt microsoft would just send beta's to random people. Well not completely random, but still.

Try a soft reset. My camera often won't initialise if i have had too many programs open.
I've just got the latest tag and it works, but has that stupid screen rotation problem, so I will have to revert to v2.
EDIT: If you go to gettag.mobi and find the file by manufacturer HTC and then the HD2. It downloads a file called TagReaderR90.0409.cab which is the one you need.
However, that then comes up with message The camera on your phone could not be accessed - 80070037.
A soft reset clears it and the Tag reader now works properly on my HD2.
Unbranded HD2 running latest ROM update from HTC, with CoOkies home tab 1.7.1, and Advanced Home Tab 2.2.3
is there an updated version, v1 available for HD2, the released out of beta version still does the inverted video problem.
update: ok just read hx4700 comment, will try out his instructions.
update 2: for the first time from Microsoft and not an xda developer, MSTag for the HD2 works perfectly. thanks hx4700

[Q] Allow Max number of Apps

I thought I was only having problems with the Samsung Tools when I try to sideload the xap file. But I tried other xap files and it still gives me the same error: "Please make sure your phone was unlocked..."
But my phone is unlocked.
Now, I'm thinking that I can't install anymore because I've reached my max. And when I try to do the registry tweak (from the forum) to allow max number of apps, it won't let me. I've tried with the Registry Editor and the SamsungRegistry app to no avail.
Can someone please help me! I have a samsung focus and the tools available here seem to work only for HTC devices. Thanks.
Im having the problem of reaching the max number, i deployed an app and recieved the message that ive reached the maximum, so im going to try and edit the registry untill i find the answer.
but, i think this may be the answer..
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
&& install is one word, but for some reason on my browser its showing "in stall"
There is already an app for that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916098
Zune set the limit back at a regular basis, so rerun the app before deploying a new xap.
I couldn't edit the registry since I had a Focus. However, I forgot that I had the advanced config app and there was a button on it to allow for max number of apps. I'm good now!!!
Focus with NoDo and an unlocked phone!!!
Woooohooooo!!!
Thank you everyone for being soooo smart! I also am using the XDA app. Pretty amazing!!

Zune Update Error Code 80180048 aka Walshed Phone Error? HERES A FIX

If you used ChevronWP7 or Chris Walsh's tools to update your WP7 phone to NODO, and now you can't update to the latest May release (7932) then here is the fix you have been looking for! This tool allows the restoration of your phone such that it can be updated through Zune again. All credits goto Chris Walsh. No need to downgrade from NODO or mess around with your ROM!

Obviously use "wpst_x86_2.zip" for 32-bit and "wpst_x64_2.zip" for 64-bit Win7/Vista. Make sure you have at least .NET Framework 4.0 installed.
Instructions:
1) Sync your favorite WP7 to your PC
2) If Zune loads, let Zune sync with your WP7 phone, establish a connection, then kill Zune
3) Run the Chris Walsh program "WPST.exe"
4) Read the onscreen instructions and wait for the update to complete
5) Try updating phone in Zune after Chris Walsh fix

You need
- the phone to be unlocked (Chevron)
- WP7 Root tools
- Read Unbranding your phone for updates thread
- Read Prevent relock thread
1. Install WP7 Root tools.
2. Do the "Prevent relock" reg hack.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
3. Do the "Unbrand" reg hack
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
Edit it and instead of "ATT-US" (original value) leave blank
4. Connect to Zune and update to 7392
I have a Focus updated to 7392
LE: alternatively, you can also sideload and run Samsung Tools and tick "remove sideload limit", "prevent relock" and " enable 3g".
This hasn't worked for me, I am still getting the update error.
Any other suggestions?
I originally flashed an Ansar VF NZ rom, it allows me to update to 7008, but fails with 80180048 on 7392.
Hard reset, Walsh's tool. still no go..
Anyone?
Yes. Flash the Rogers rom and start over. Something's not working properly and you can try to spend a lot of time trying to find out what it is or you can enjoy the phone. Your call.
I'm suggesting Rogers rom, because the while AT&T has apps (will you use'em?) it doesn't support sms delivery notification. Also, Rogers rom is closest to original Samsung rom.

Yup. You can at least figure out if it's a software, hardware or firmware problem. GL
Did the update. Is there any reason to rebrand the phone after the update? Or can I just leave ATT-US blank?

Yeah, from what I've read, there is no rush... When AT&T does offer Mango, will I have to add it then?

If you really want the additional stuff AT&T will put in it, yes. Otherwise you can probably get the "official" update like everyone else. Again, your call

WP7 doesn't really have bloatware. All the preinstalled ATT apps can be deleted. ATT did provide a WiFi sniffer that looked for free ATT WiFi spots and automatically connected without intervention from the user. I think this and the ability to import ATT contacts came only to ATT branded phones with the 7390 update

That's what I said What do you call something you don't use and that occupies space otherwise? Plus you do have to delete those apps to free space, so those are extra steps. As for the Wispr, Mango (including this beta) offers this connectivity generic. For contacts, I have no clue what ATT contacts are but Outlook sync works perfectly.

Multitasking in 7720

7720 background multitasking lacks
Care to illustrate? I'm on 7712 & it works.. Not on all apps la, bt its a beta
Sent from my LG Optimus 7
Mango multitasking wont be good until the apps are updated to resume properly, right now when you go back to an app it usually wont bring you back to the exact spot you were at, because the apps doesnt know that they can and they will as long as the dev knows whats he/she is doing once mango apps start to appear
Be more specific please
Please refrain your question and be more specific. Remember this is a beta build or in your case (RTM build 7720) afterall, and only few apps and games take advantage of multitasking at the moment.
I'm running Mango RTM 7720 and multitasking is fine, much smoother and quicker than the first Mango beta build released in July and it will only get better once its approved by OEMs and network carriers.
RTM 7720 - Gmail syncing issues
Just updated my HTC HD7 to the RTM 7720 build yesterday by starting with a clean install from NoDo and everything went fine.
However, I seem to be having some trouble trying to set up Gmail. I have tried a few time to set it up but it keeps telling me "Attention required" under Settings (Email+accounts) - Gmail.
When I click on it it says the following "Update your information for m.google.com and press Save". I tried that on the browser but it takes me to the mobile version of Gmail and its not helpful at all.
Has anyone else come across this issue? If so, any solutions...???
Thanks in advance
how do i use the multitasking function

I had that problem too. This morning it was gone. Maybe try again? It was perhaps on Google part that things didn't work.

As stated each app much be updated with a single line of code to make MT work in Mango. The Marketplace will not allow apps to have this code at the moment. Thus most apps not working with MT.

Really? I suppose instead of acting like a douche (Most users do) and telling you to use Search, I can tell you that you hold down the Back button on your phone.
PS: Use search. Most users wont be so kind.
hehe thanks....watched a youtube video and saw it.

mango update quick question need help please,

HEY
i see the mango update is starting to go live for people and after looking at microsoft site its shows in the uk that o2 are givng out the update.
my question is i have a unlocked htc 7 pro currently using a t-mobile sim can i take this out use my partners o2 sim to see if i can get the update then once updated transfer back to my t-mobile sim?
thanks for any help with this.
did you try to force the update with the zune software (the link is in this forum on a different thread). It worked for my phone and doesn't really use my carrier's network (since it relies on disabling your network connection during the upgrade check). It might work for you without doing anything else.
Agree with last post. If in doubt, force it

If you're too lazy to search for the link, here it is: http://www.wpcentral.com/force-mango-update-early-through-zune-software
I had to repeat the steps a bunch of times to get it right, but it works fine
But take care, this will probably re-lock your phone, I had no problem with this because I already have an AppHub student account, so I can officially unlock it again
But I'm still facing some problems because students are only allowed 3 sideloaded apps, and since this number is smaller than 300, this means that the phone will be Interop-locked (this is explained here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265321), so I can't open any code that use native libraries, so I'm unable to edit the registry to increase MaximumUnsignedApps :S
thanks i found the force link lastnight. got it all to work first time so easy was great thank you for the info.
