Could be a great phone for Android flashers and enthusiasts, depending on the build quality. Best Part:
"but if you insist on trying other Android flavors on Xiaomi's hardware, then you'll be pleased to know that this phone lets you flash whatever firmware you like."
Update:

Looks very interesting and the price tag sounds good.
Waiting eagerly.
Does anyone know how to order it?
Ive been trying google to search how to order the phone (xiaomi m1 or miphone etc) cant find it. If you know how please post in this forum or pm me.
Cool, normal for beginners
This has potential. Looks really cool!
Very nice hardware, and a 1930mAh battery, thats impressive.
Looks too much like an Iphone though, which is sad, I wish more Android makers would try to create their own identity.
very cool phone I like it

To those who said it's a copy of the iPhone, let me tell you this, I watched the announcement video, I actually agree with their design philosophy. They said something like this: "No design will ever please everyone, so their decision is to have no design. So the goal becomes very simple, as long as the look is not irritating, it is a good design."
To me, the design looks more like a Nexus S's front + an HTC phone's back. It looks simple, but still pretty none the less.
Those who wonder how to purchase this phone, this is currently planned to be sold online from their official website only. I'm sure some will find ways to import it to other countries though.
What I like the most of this phone is the effort they put into making it the perfect phone. Large battery, antenna design, heat dissipation, screen readability under direct sun light, weekly ROM updates, totally unlocked, quality (survives being run over by a car http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjk2MjE4NTUy.html), etc. I actually think this phone is more exciting than the next Nexus phone, this is what the Nexus S should have been.

Though this phone has better hardware, it still a copycat. Not saw too much innovation.
i am look forward to see it
If it will available in India than what will be approximate price of this DRAGON???
LG OPTIMUS P500, mik's OS 2.3.4
Although there are similarities between the iPhone and this device, I still don't think it'2 "copied".
I really like the look and I am really, really looking forward to this phone, it's specs are phenomenal and for that price you will not find a better smartphone for sure!
This may be the one to replayce my beloved Desire! ;-)

I was really excited when I heard the rumours about the nexus S along with 2.3.
Now it's been released I am extremely disappointed. It is no different from the Samsung galaxy S, which in my opinion was not a good device to start with, with it's cheap plastic design, lag problems and GPS issues etc. They even dropped the SD card slot which was the final nail in the coffin for me. Didnt implement hspa+ and dropped the bluetooth 3.0.
So for now i'll be sticking to my HTC desire with a custom 2.3 rom when it becomes available.
I suppose 2.3 comes with some welcomed features but we will have to wait till honeycomb to see the full UI update i guess.
What are your thoughts? Will the nexus S be your next device?
Let me know what you think.
I don't know but HTC is also full of problems too, i hope people realize that HTC uses cheap crap into their phones, the nexus one's awful touch screen, tiny speakers, dust under the screen, power button problems. I don't understand why people praise HTC so much i mean their warranty isn't stellar, having to send your phone for 3 weeks isn't very appealing.
Galaxy S to start with is already a better phone than the nexus one, the GPS works and everything works in the vibrant.

My thoughts are that people who complain about Google not releasing the phone of their dreams have missed the point of the Nexus S
I think:
No SD card= no problem, It's a phone after all guys, if you need music I would get an iPod, I use Pandora or groove shark anyways...I can't even fill my 8Gb card as it is!
Plastic Build= This is not a problem for me either because it's googles phone, i bet it will feel solid after all and I like the classy black gloss look so im biased anyways...
No HSPA+ = I don;t think many people are actually getting up to the 7mb anyways, but in the near future I think T mobile will be updating it to a whopping 21Mb so this is a bit upsetting but I only get edge at my house anyways so I'm okay with this too
This is the ONLY fully supported GOOGLE PHONE as of now remember. The nexus one is slowly dying
That's why I will have mine on the 16th!
Not sure why so many people complain about the Galaxy S line of phones. I have the Fascinate and I am not getting lag, the plastic case is plenty durable, my GPS also works fine.

EXACTLY i held a fascinate and it felt so solid! I just don't understand it....and HSPA+? You can still get up to 7.2 MB, but that isn't good enough? I mean that flies on my Nexus one already! I dont need any more speed.

lets keep it real, GOOGLE missed on the N1 because you couldnt walk into a national retailer, touch it, feel it, try it.
Best Buy Mobile is one of the best places to get a smartphone if not the best, they certainly have the most and best prices. rebates anyone? any retailer is going to have idiots who dont know what theyre talking about...trust me it would be worst in a WalMart, Shack, or Target for example.

I'm not praising HTC at all. I don't agree that HTC uses cheap crap in their phones. HTC's design and build quality is one of the best in the industry. I do agree no phone is perfect, Some HTC's do have problems like the lack of a good quality speaker and the multi-touch issues on the N1. However the new HTC line up looks promising such as the G2/desire z and desire HD etc.
When I was playing on my friends galaxy S I did notice the lag issue and GPS problems. To me the actual build quality seemed cheap. However I will say, great processor and internal hardware, with that gorgeous AMOLED screen. That's just my experience of the device.

I think you might be missing the point I am trying to make.
I wasn't expecting the phone of my dreams, far from it. My point is that the specs are almost identical to that of the galaxy S. With exception to the NFC and gyro of course.
The reason why expandable memory is a deal breaker for me, amongst other things, is the fact they are removing a feature, I know for some people this will be fine, but it reminds me of the iphone and how apple removes basic features, in their closed system.
The nexus S could have been great, but it was rushed for release just for the Christmas season.
Above all that here in the UK its going to cost a whopping £550 on launch day!
I think the nexus S will be fine for most, but there's nothing revolutionary about it.
The last I heard about a "revolutionary" phone was from steve job's mouth. Just sayin. I don't think google is saying this is a revolutionary device. Nexus named phone just means its Google's baby.
Some people just have too much expectation.

I don't agree on making a general comment like HTC rocks and Samsung sucks or vice versa. In gadgets world, you have to take each product and review it as it is. About build quality , I have a cheap Samsung slide phone and it has been taking some awful falls for a while, on hard floors and streets and although it's fully made of plastic, it amazed me how it's still holding up with just scratches and it's performing just like the first day I got it. There is no one device that can fit all people, everyone has something to look for in his phone. For me, NS fits me the most now. You might have some other specifications that you are looking for too, so this might not be your phone.
Couple of key points for me...
Not realy '****ed' up per se, just dropped the ball on a couple of points:
NO HSPA+= No purchase for me, my next phone has to have it (currently with HD2)
No HD video recording. WTF!? I'm sure someone will unleash it in a custom ROM or hack, but off the bat, just plain doopid!
I was almost there until I found out those 2 points. I'd rather get a MyTouch 4G.

Same here...
I'm surprised they didn't bump the camera specs by at least a bit. I get that MegaPixels aren't everything. But in the world of tech, megapixel numbers do actually make a difference to the general public.
I was also expecting a little bit more ground breaking design. Or ground breaking something.
This phone feels drastically short on some key areas.
No Plus screen?
Camera is more software upgrade than hardware.
Not only lack of software buttons...but PHYSICAL home button? At least go full capacitive like the Skyrocket.
The "Siri-like" features already feel like they are old news. They shouldn't be a major draw. And as somebody who had Siri, it gets old fast.
This just really isn't a pretty phone...looks almost plain and boring...or just generally unoriginal. A little Galaxy, a little Nexus, that's about it.
I have to say it...I think they left the door wide open for Apple to amaze people with the next iPhone keynote. This announcement felt like a lot of smoke and mirrors to cover up that there really is barely anything new with this phone at all.
In one bit of news though...I noticed Touchwiz had some new looks to it. Didn't look like enough to call it Touchwiz 5, but more like a 4.1. Interested if we will get it at some point.
Ground breaking news would be .. 12mp + camera .. whether or not they are able to keep the quad-core for 4G/LTE (unlike HTC's flop) .. don't really care about the rest.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Agreed. I am also disappointed.
Although that new touchwiz looks nice. Hopefully we can get it ported over or something
Nothing really new that isn't already out. The international one x is very similar in spec wise except for memory. Sammy failed to amaze this time.
thanks samsung. you made my decision to stick with the skyrocket a lot easier =)

Well, honestly this is probably part of it. There is probably quite a bit of non-competing clauses and patent issues mingled in there. And the Apple load keeps them so busy it's probably harder than it seems to work on their own unique stuff. They make a wonderful CPU or screen for Apple...and then probably lock themselves out of doing any of that on their own products. So they have to find ways around it. I can tell you my company deals with similar type issues sometimes. Making money off your competition isn't always as wonderful as it sounds.
Well .. the GOODNESS just disappeared from my point of view.
Found the full specs up on PhoneArena (http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III_id6330).. confirmed what I feared .. nothing new at all, same as the HTC One series.
Quad-Core yes .. NO LTE SUPPORT !!!!!!
12MP + camera NO .. same ole 8MP and 1.9MP !!!!!! I thought Samsung was one of the pioners of cameras !!!!!! Well, they certainly ain't showing it.
Sticking with my Skyrocket .. until something REALLY IMPRESSIVE is released.
Also, I doubt the home button would be there when it comes over seas to the US. It always turns into full capacitive when it hits here. So atleast it won't be nearly as ugly as the international version. But still.. nothing made me want to go out and buy the s3 at all
When buying a phone its not all about the numbers, if the software behind the camera improves the camera over the S2, then who cares if its an 8 or 12 or 41 megapixel camera? If it has DOUBLE the processing and graphics power of the S2 how is that disappointing? If it makes a huge improvement over google voice actions to make it MUCH more user friendly, again how is this disappointing? I'd say it is the best android phone, and definitely better than the iphone. So for at least the next 2-3 months until the iPhone 5 is released this is the undisputed champ of smartphones. And all people can say is disappointment because there isn't a 5 ghz processor and a 50mp camera? From the reviews i've read of people ACTUALLY USING THE PHONE instead of looking over spec sheets, they all love it. Spec sheets mean nothing when your phone is in use, they are just talking points. If the phone works beautifully (all indications are that it does) then why are we disappointed?
Thoughts on the unveiling of the Blackberry DTEK60. Looks excellent if you ask me: Stockish Android, Front Facing Speakers Small Bezels, finger print scanner on backSnapdragon 820, decent looking battery, and above average camera.
For $500 dollars seems like a great upgrade for Moto X owners looking for a stock android device with front facing speakers.
Thoughts?

It will most likely receive no third-party ROMs development. The phone will not be rootable as well. Blackberry won't let you do so, at least easily because it would go against their security prowess.
I just bought my Pure for sub-250$ so such a phone for 500 is a no go. I think something along the line of ZTE or the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix would be better (even though these phones are very hard to get our hands on).
For the money I would definitely consider an alternative other than blackberry at the moment..lack of modding or rom's would make it a boring 500+ piece of hardware .

My logic was price wise ,for the same amount of money or less there's alot of options available like Nexus 5x or 6p which by black Friday should be a decent deal and even now and they run stock Andy just as good .if I was to shed out that kind of money it would be for pretty good flagship phone .The blackberrys are intriguing but for the money I would stick with Samsung /HTC /Sony and then Nexus line and as far as modding I'm not too big in it anymore but when the device hit eol and someone makes a stable Cm or paranoid/Aosp rom of current or next Andy build I would jump straight into it .

Yeah the 6p is huge but just feels and looks like a premium device .My brother has it and nephew has 5x running 7.0 just smoothly .I came from a HTC one m9 and had a nexus 5 so I definitely learned my lesson on phones that cost 500+ .If it not a game changer than I wont spend 500+ when three months done the line some other comes with something better .Heck even one plus phones are good for the money.
With phone options out there with comparable specs in the $400 range, just can't justify getting a BB. For a business wanting a secure phone, it would be a good choice but fit most users, I doubt the extra "security" would really matter. For a tinkerer, this phone is a no go.

I'm starting to look for a new phone and the Essential has piqued my interest, but, it seems like there have been quite a few start up problems associated with new products.
So, since the World Mobile Congress is happening at the end of the month and Essential has a spot reserved in it, I was wondering if there has been any leaks, rumors or news associated with it? I was hoping for news of an Essential 2 or a ph-2? New release? Anything?
Thx.
Probably just new colors and accessories. They have their hands full dealing with the PH-1.

Maybe... Although with this phone flopping the way it did, I don't know how much I would invest in the next phone if I were them or their investors... The PH-1 was a failure. They lost money on every unit they sold. If Andy had not raised so much capital to keep them afloat, they would have closed their doors by now.
The vision was ambitious and great. The execution, not so much.
There are a lot of B.S. articles out there no doubt, and there were some growing pains... But I wouldn't give up my PH-1 for any other phone right now. I like most things about it. I am just annoyed at bugs, and the progression of updates isn't as good as I would have hoped. Yes, they put out 16 camera updates over 5 months, but that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement... that they HAD to put out so many updates just to get the camera up to "mediocre" status... LOL
Like anything, if it works for you and makes you happy, enjoy it! I am just on the fence with it...

Failure?
You need to define failure.
I have a friend on Sprint that has hated just about every phone she had Android and iPhone.
She absolutely loves the PH-1.
I have a PH-1 and it is by far the best phone I've owned.
Here is my list that I've owned:
SCH-i600W (Windows flip phone)
SCH-i760
Treo 700W
BB Storm 1
BB Storm 2
DroidX
Droid Bionic
Droid Razr
Droid Razr Maxx
Galaxy S4
LG G3
iPhone 6 plus
Nexus 6P
LG G6
Essential PH-1
There are some true failures in that list.
If you want to base success on how many sold you might be right.
What they learned though was how difficult it is to launch a device.
They leaned to roll out updates.
They learned how they need to support customers.
They learned how to partner, although they picked a crappy one (Sprint).
But overall as a new player in the high end market, I wouldn't call them a failure.
Failure defined by sales numbers and how much money they lost on this phone.
SquireSCA said:
Yeah, few failures on that list. I have had a few that were not on the list as well, I am betting that we all have.
One thing that I will say, and this is based on several tech articles that I have read in the past couple weeks, is that the market is changing a bit. It's not the wide open market that it was in a lot of ways, even just a few years ago. One article pointed out that a company like OnePlus, got really lucky. They hit at the right time, but for someone else to do it again in 2017/18 faces more challenges.
Oh well, time will tell I guess.
I love new products and the more there are, the more competition there is. I don't want a world made up of just Apple and Samsung. But we are gonna have to sift through a few lemons to find that occasional diamond in the rough...

Considering that Google only sold ~4 Million of Pixel and Pixel 2 phones of all types last year, calling the Essential a complete failure might be a bit premature.
The sales numbers might be low, but I think that this is just indicative of how difficult it is to compete with Apple and Samsung and nothing else.
I like innovative an new products.
No matter what they say about Essential, they were first to the party with a phone that had a huge screen and minimal bezels.
They have a build quality and hand feel second to none.
I don't plan on replacing this phone for a while.
I only with I could get a Poetic Affinity case. That is my favorite case and I've had one on my last three phones.
To be fair, 80k is a lot less than 4 mill. Lol

88K.
But think about the size of the companies and length of time in the market.
Google had all year and only sold 4 Million. That's 333K per month. That's a rally low number.
Essential started shipping in the second half of the year and was an unknown company.
So if you put it into perspective. We don't know if the company is a failure or not, is all I'm saying.
The time on the market is not statistically significant enough to draw any conclusion.
I just know I like my PH-1.
88k shipped, not sold. Plus, how many returns?

I hope the company survives. Overall I am pretty happy with my PH-1. I much prefer it to any Scamsung product. And everywhere you go, Samsung and Apple are the only choices. That needs to end. Can't find an HTC anywhere to put my hands on despite it being critically acclaimed as one of the best devices of 2017. Pathetic. I asked about the PH-1 at Best Buy and the employee said they might have 1 in the back but there just wasn't enough display space. They had about 30 Samsung and iPhones on display though.....

I like the my PH-1 and you'll need to pry it from my cold dead hands.
I can't think of any other phone I like better.
I just wish that Poetic made the Affinity case for the PH-1. :crying:

Considering that officially they only sell in the US...
It is a new product. I doubt anybody would expect too a million phones in 3 months or something.
Has some issues, yes. First gen stuff always does. Even second and third gen do.
Works Ok for a first gen. Does what I need to do.
I don't have brand loyalty to anything, may buy something else in a few months. Maybe even a PH-2...
Hello, all it is great to be back on XDA after long not being able to do anything with my phone because Samsung locks it down so you can't touch the US variants of their phones anymore! I decided to "downgrade" to a Moto G6 and save my money and free myself from Samsungs crapware etc. My thoughts from playing with it so far are that for the price it is incredible! Fast charging is faster than my S9+, battery life is better, overall system responsiveness is very consistent, and the screen is not at all bad! This barely feels like a downgrade at all. It feels like a breath of fresh air in an over saturated market of very pricey devices. I had the original Moto G and it is still to this day the most bang for my buck device ever. It still works and still runs Android 8 even! The OnePlus One is a close contender but I really need something that works on all major US networks. Only Samsung, Apple, HTC, LG, and Motorolla were really options for me. Out of those, I thought the G6 would likely be the most tinker friendly and budget friendly. So far that seems to be holding true as development looks to be on the horizon and there are open kernel sources! Who knows maybe I will take a crack at doing a simple AOSP ROM! Cheers everyone!
P.S. Enjoy the extra money in your pockets from not buying something overpriced like the iPhone X.

Why not? I do not think that this goes against the purpose of the News & Discussion section. I figure something like this would be welcome. :silly:
Yeah, try to do some custom ROMs please. Or fix bugs on treble ROMs, if you're able to do it ?
Hey there!
I just bought a G6 today and i'm coming from S6 Edge Plus.
Of course, this is not like a S9, but I was using the "port" version of S9 rom and i don't think Samsung's changed that much. After buying this phone I agree and understand what you are talking. I feel like I'm upgrading to a more expensive phone. Everything has this stock animations, smoothness and the battery... Omg... The baterry is fantastic!
I stopped to think about why spend so much i Samsung's phone if you can get even better experience with another phones on the market? Just because of a design that certainly will be covered by a case and a good screen.
Of course I miss the camera, but I can get over it
Loved reading the post. Don't mind the guy up above and his poor attitude.
Just like the OP i have 3 of these moto G6 play's and 1 iPhone X. The G6 is by far the bang for the buck in everyway. These phones even have facial recognition !
BTW, i picked up these phones for less than $100 each.................................

Yeah I am going to miss the camera a lot but for the price it is making me like it a lot more. Also Samsung needs to up their quick charge game. Thinking about the camera again though... For the difference in price you can get a killer used DSLR or maybe even a new one not including lenses.
This is evidence that price does not equal quality. I'm glad you like your phone as much as I like mine.

"...and the screen is not at all bad!"
Actually, I think the screen is gorgeous and looks amazing, bright and colorful without being oversaturated.
Hi, Markon101...
Wow, what a great post, and I agree with much of what you say, although I live in the UK and carrier networks are somewhat different here. Things aren't quite so locked down.
So, anyway, like yourself, I've also been away from XDA for quite a while, primarily because I'm not rich enough to afford the latest Premium Flagship devices. And over the past few years, I've been running fairly old devices, namely the (HTC built) Nexus 9 tablet and the HTC One M8 phone, both of which hail from 2014.
This hasn't been much of a problem in terms of regular day-to-day use, but to be a contributing member of XDA, it helps if you have more up to date hardware.
I remember buying my HTC One M8 phone way back in September 2014, which cost me over £500 - a fair chunk of cash for me even back then.
Today's Flagship phones are even more expensive (unless you go the contract route, but I prefer to actually own my phone outright), so when my HTC One M8's battery began to fail earlier this year (which is pretty respectable after three and a bit years of use!) ~ at the beginning of July, the phone would shut down when the battery dipped below 70% ~ well, I knew then that I needed a new phone, it couldn't be delayed any longer!
But you develop certain expectations, largely fed by what you read online and by the focus placed on them, that the only phones worth bothering with are Premium Flagship devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, Google's Pixel phones, the iPhone X, etc...
...and that any phone not costing an arm and a leg (ie., anything less than around £800) is basically not worth bothering with.
And it's so easy to fall into the trap of believing that. I certainly did, which is why I delayed replacing my M8 for as long as I did, not wanting (and not really able to afford it anyway) to spend upwards of £800 to £900 on a new phone. I guess I could have found the money, but the sacrifices elsewhere in my life, as a result, would have just have been unacceptable to me.
And then I read this article...
The Moto G6 exposes the identity crisis plaguing Android's top-end...
https://www.wired.co.uk/article/moto-g6-release-date-uk-price-specs
This article 'recalibrated' my expectations and changed my perspective about a phone costing only a quarter of the price of a Flagship device ~ just £220, network unlocked.
So, I bought one. Just over a week ago now.
I transferred the SIM card from my antiquated HTC One M8 and I haven't regretted my purchase for a single minute!
The Moto G6 is a singular delight to look at, to hold and most importantly of all... to use. Smooth and responsive, great screen, fast charging, looks good - what's not to like.
You could buy nearly five of 'em for the price of an iPhone X - all I can say is that the iPhone X must be an extraordinarily and an astonishingly amazing piece of technology, but is it worth £1000? A slightly rhetorical question I know, because value, when it comes to such things, is highly subjective.
Clearly, it's worth it to some people, otherwise Apple wouldn't have sold any of 'em ~ I just couldn't personally justify such an extravagant purchase, even if I did have a spare Grand lying around somewhere!
But going back to the Moto G6 ~ it's a great phone, at a great price, and I doubt I'll ever pay much more than a couple of a hundred pounds for a smartphone ever again, which also means I won't leave it so long until I upgrade again - I mean, £220 (or thereabouts) every couple of years is something I can easily scrape together. Thick end of a £1000... well, not really.
It seems to me that something has recently changed in the smartphone world, and that good quality phones no longer require remortgaging the house! The Moto G6 is evidence of that.
---------------------------------
As far as custom mods for the Moto G6 are concerned (ie., root via Magisk, TWRP, Custom Kernels, Custom ROMs, etc.) and all that kind of stuff... well, I guess it will all happen at some point. It's still early days yet, the Moto G6 has only been on the market for around three months, and the dev guys who understand the intricacies of Android required for building the tools needed for these things need time to work on them.
And in any case, I generally wouldn't even bother thinking about unlocking the bootloader until I've had a device for at least six months, primarily for warranty reasons. What's the rush?
And ideally of course, you'd need some means of restoring/re-flashing the Moto G6 back to its factory state before messing around with all of that - and which I don't think there is currently.
Root is certainly nice to have, for things like AdaWay, Greenify and Titanium, but it brings problems of its own, for example when an OTA is imminent ~ it won't install over anything other than unmodified stock. Maybe Magisk has changed that ~ I haven't used Magisk myself, and I'm only familiar with Chainfires SuperSU, which I do know had to 'patch' the boot image/partition for root to work. I had to use Chainfires FlashFire to run an OTA on my rooted Nexus 9, but with Chainfire retiring from the field, I suspect that FlashFire no longer works, and probably wouldn't be supported on the G6 anyway.
Anyhow, whatever the complexities, root doesn't seem to me to be that much of a deal breaker these days. Or maybe I'm just getting old, and I can no longer be bothered with the hassle of it all anymore. I remember (cue: pipe, slippers, cardigan, grumpy old man routine)... I remember back in ICS, Jellybean and KitKat days when root was just so easy to acquire, and you could even flash an official OTA via ClockWorkMod recovery...
...well, those days are long gone, probably for the better actually, because it means Android is now considerably more secure with things like Secure Boot, DM-Verity, Selinix Enforced/Permissive and a whole load of other things I don't really fully understand (but sort of pretend to).
Android is certainly much more slicker and polished these days (anybody here remember Éclair, Froyo and Gingerbread!), with Nougat and Oreo and whatever P will eventually be called, but it doesn't seem to be quite as much fun as it used be back circa 2011-2014 or thereabouts.
---------------------------------
Well, having ruminated on all manner of diverse topics here, I'll conclude this ever-so-slightly rambling post by reiterating my opinion on the Moto G6, and totally agreeing with Markon101 and his post above.
It is unquestionably a delightful phone, at an equally delightful price. I'm still amazed that it only cost me a little over £200. I doubt you could even buy a half-decent TV for that kind of money.
Hope everybody else here is equally happy with their Moto G6... I know I certainly am.
Cheers everybody.
Ged.
I like the Moto G6 but S9+ is by far a better phone. Better cpu, gpu, camera, screen. S9+ feels more premium than the G6 as well. Just my opinion tho. I would never trade an S9+ for a moto G6 tho i do have the G6 as a back up phone
no kidding dude

obviously the s9+ is better but is costs over 4 times more than a g6... and you can do a bit more with the motorola. im glad to see some developers have noticed it recently. **** ive had pie since july and ive been able to get like 5 different oreo gsi and three different pie gsi (descendent has a few flaws) to boot and run successfully. the best bang for the buck is the g6. honestly you sound like a fool if you have a g6 as a backup lol. you need a backup phone for a 1000 dollar s9+ ? good thing samsung is letting you get that ota for their best phone this fast because your locked bootloader and ridiculous knox security wont let you even try without cancelling your warranty and after it says void odin tells you that it has failed to flash right as the phone shorts out and tells you that it cant turn on because of moisture in the charge port(my buddy had this issue)and youre like damn, now i gotta use the G6. sorry to be so hard on ya bro but reality is harsh and you sound like a guy that needed a check.
I sort of understand what you mean like when It comes to being a developer It's simple to unlock a Moto bootloader and simple to flash stuff to em and build custom stuff for em. Compared to Samsung you need to use Odin for everything and it might not work right still. along with Samsung knox and there bootloader's being pains to unlock sometimes through unofficial means. You gotta worry about it being a exynos variant or not and there verison of android is not as much of a stock Android experience compared to moto. There's a bunch of stuff I'm sure I'm missing on why you think Moto is better lol. But I mean i have the g4 play, g6 play, and the z2 force and I bought the z2 force just so I can play games on it lol if I was you I would have just kept the s9+ and used it for the things I couldn't use my other phones for lol
I think G6 is decent for the price.
Frankly, I'd prefer IPS over AMOLED all the time.
Now Samsung is way too locked down so I quit. LG isn't that bad on open market model.
I just hope G6 has more development, and G6 plus will come to America because I prefer bigger screen.
The way to wake the phone requires some learning curve but it's not bad.
The only thing I don't like is Google Play Music. I have to close all other apps or local playback stutters.
NFC doesn't matter because I barely use it.
It works well with PD charging
USB-C digital headphones works too

I downgraded too from Galaxy S9 to Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 and I've never been happier. I love to tinker with my phones and was sick of Samsung locking everything up. So I'm happy now with some extra money on pocket.

Just to let y'all know magisk has a camera port from a rog phone. Imo it's a significant upgrade. Not as good as the S9 camera of course but still.?

I found it. Not worth another magisk module messing with my stuff. Everyone should keep them to a minimum, only what's needed to keep stability and needed features. Thanks though.
i have moto g6 .. You can't compare G6 phone with S9. SAMSUNG S9 is a 2018 most selling flagship device and have a good value in market.
