Notice Gmail plugin not working for Gmail app ver 2.3.5
In android, each application save their data into private space, this includes files and database.
Then each application may share their private data by exposing their information through a "data provider".
And this "data provider" can be set for public use, or only for other apps signed with same certificate as the provider
Gmail prior to 2.3.5 expose their data provider for public use, which actually in sense is not secure.
But that allow us to create a lot of widget, app and even launcher which read data from Gmail.
Gmail 2.3.5 which has their data provider secured, make all this kind or widget, app and launcher to stop working.
The only way to have this work on Gmail 2.3.5 and future version is when Google expose an API for us to access, or you can install the "modified" Gmail 2.3.5 on your own risk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199598
Notice about plugin development
As i said above, so for certain apps integration, only if the data is accessible with a public data provider on the phone, or and exposed API on web service like Facebook API or future Google Plus API then we can make one.
I already looked on the Google Plus and Whatsapp, they both don't have any data provider exposed for us to us.

Want to help localized the application?
Below are the text resources included in the application. If you want to have the application in your own language, feel free to download, translate and submit back to me via email to [email protected]
Help wanted ...
Music Timescape™
As most of us currently using Gingerbread, I totally forgot what is the default behaviour for the music tile when you clicks it.
Currently I just pass the music to the player, then the music app will only have THAT media in its playing list.
Still figuring out the best way for this.

Requested apps that will be checked for development possibility
- PowerAmp
Checked apps that the plugin can use the app database or data provider
- Yahoo! Mail
Checked apps that the plugin will required direct connection the service
- Google+
Apps which the plugin that cannot be developed
- Built-in Email application
- Whatsapp
- Vignette

Which phone are you using? Xperia X10? The music only registered into the plugin when you finish it completely. As in it stops or it changes to next song.
I usually test by dragging the play timeline to the end, and it will be registerd to the plugin successfully.
Also you might want to do the reboot process.. Uninstall first to be sure, reboot, then redownload from the store.

got it......

Just checked on both yesterday. Google Reader apps does not expose their data provider. And the built in Email apps, that one have a secured permission set, just like Gmail ... too bad
Some other apps like Executive Assistant, they will connect to Google Reader web directly, rather than communicating with Google Reader apps.
I dont like the idea, if i make one and install both, meaning i will be wasting two times data and power cause the phone will two times to Google Reader.
I'm thinking of something out of the box now.
Next is a Picture RSS plugin, which will download a picture from a RSS source and show the picture in tile ... It would be good for daily dose of fun

any chance to bring back the feed of the email app? (the se stick one)

awesome, i've downloaded your plugins. can we get a google plus plug in as well?

Excellent add-ins!
Loving these add-ins, is there any chance of getting a plugin to work with the stock email app so that I can see my exchange email in Timescape?

there is a .apk?

3 issues about the photo plugin
Thank you for the apps
1. It works with the stock camera app, but not Vignette. There is no event at all when a new photo is taken from Vignette.
2. When a photo is deleted, the event is still in the TS stream.
3. I'm using the new TS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205999 When I open the TS app, the photo event shows a thumbnail of the photo. However, there is no thumbnail in the widget, and a default black image is used instead.

agree.
even if the photo is deleted the event still remains in the stream.
i'm using stock 2.3 timescape and the no thumbnail widget problem was there for me as well but it showed the thumbnail once i restarted my device. maybe you should try doing that too ?

Ok..
I haven't tried with Vignette yet.. what the plugin do is tracking for standardize event broadcasted by stock camera app and se camera app.. which is mostly used for monitoring new photo. vignette might not broadcast the event when a photo is taken.
for the deleted photo stay in TS stream, during my development.. i keep one thing in mind.. this plugin should not use too much processing, because if it drains battery, then it would defeat the purpose. and i see TS stream as a history, not the actual information browser.
if you notice, when you delete an email in Gmail, the stream is not deleted as well. because checking for deletion is a really costly process.. because how android works, basically you are a comparing a set of list against another set of list and checks which one is missing.. rather than it tell you these set is no gone.
but i understand, sometimes if you move all your photo from your phones to computer.. it would be really frustrating to see a lot of blank tiles
I will put this on "to do list" for now, currently i'm working on K-9 Email plugin for Timescape

rss channel with option add source would be perfect
the mail plugin is perfect I lovin' it would useful for h'mail , y'hoo
Thanks very very very much. Good work and keep up old

Facebook albums on Android gallery. Possible?

Today I was playing with Picasa albums on the Android gallery and was curious if there are Facebook APIs that would allow the gallery to display facebook albums similar to how they display Picasa albums. (run on sentence?)
I recall reading in the past that facebook opened up APIs for displaying photo albums outside of FB, but I was not sure if anyone has thought of adding this functionaliy.
If it is not possible to add to Gallery, is there another photo program besides the built in FB app that will pull FB photos?
The new MyTouch Slide does this.
I'm not a dev or anything, so I couldn't tell you how it's done though.

It's there already in Sense. Get an Android made by HTC all you'll be able to do it. It's cool!
I'm considering (if I can find a little time) to extend the gallery app to allow it to be extended to support additional sources of networked albums. Gallery uses android data sources to get the images to and has a class which concatenates two data sources, one for local files, the other for picasa. Extending this to concatenate any number of providers and querying the android system for them would allow this to be extensible.
My goal is to add support for gallery3 (gallery.menalto.com), but facebook, flikr or any other photo service with a suitable API could be added.

Great! I'll PM you if I ever get around to working on it and have something usable for you to test.
I did look into it a little bit more and it looks like things are not abstracted quite as well as I had originally thought, which means its a lot more work.
There was an app for the G1 (at least that was how it was labelled, worked fine on my Magic) that worked on Gallery2. Since Gallery3 is a re-write, I doubt it works anymore. I think I found it in the Market.

[APP][2.1+]SyncMyPix - ICS-JB and Facebook Fix-(Better High Res Pic Update)

Hi,
I don't like to give my info to third party libraries or apps,so i've managed to fix SyncMyPix for ICS. Also fixed facebook functions. I'm uploading apk and source here.
I also added fql to fetch fullsize facebook photos.
To use it,
1)You have to create an application on your facebook account from developers.facebook.com.
There is an video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDeaKrWR7WA&feature=relmfu -> thanks to google
2)After creation enter your facebook "application id" to "Application Id field on preferences of application".
https://developers.facebook.com/attachment/android_devapp_basic.png <- in this picture the APP_ID part is your application id.
(dont click on green square)
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/getting-started/facebook-sdk-for-android/3.0/ -> step 4
Add this key as android key
Code:
it's not needed anymore, use it as web app
3)Enable high res photos, and disable crop from preferences.
4)When you touch sync facebook login form will appear, (it's facebook's own login dialog) and login to your facebook account from application.
5)If you didn't add your application to your facebook account it will ask you to authorize it.
6)It will automatically fetch contact photos. (If it doesnt start click sync again, it will not ask your facebook details again)
I could have given my application id to you but there would be no point to use this application if i had done it. There are lots of applications on market.
Also if you understand compiling from source you can set application id from string.xml -> "facebook_api_key"
My source code repo of syncmypix:
https://github.com/Deadknight/SyncMyPix
Have fun
Update (special-3):
*It works on 4.2.2 emulator
*Highly increased image resolution.
*Because of change in facebook fetch type, it will be a little bit slower than other releases while syncing
*Apk is signed use the key provided above to enable facebook app over it
Update (special-2):
*Fixed crop view
*Increased resolution of images, Still a little choppy but better from before.
There is a way to implement high res photos with real size. But rooting required and i don't have time to research it .
*Some small bug fixes.
PS:Thanks Neil Loknath for fantastic base code.
PS 2:Tested on Nexus-HD2 Rom v2.3
Use special-3 version, older ones left for testing
Are you going to pass it upstream, they use svn: https://code.google.com/p/syncmypix/source/checkout
Hi,
Nope, i'm not sure which one he is using github or google. Also if anyone wants i attached source.
You lost me at "application id"
I think it works for me.
Update on tutorial for the guys cannot do.
Quick question:
Is this the same as using HaxSync or Facebook Profile Sync?
They both do 256x256 images I think, if not higher.

I don't know how they work, but i added the functions that has to be used to add contact photo without hacking. Last version's quality is good. Try it yourself
Works great so far! Thanks for the update.
I didn't see anything in the thread about the difference between the special and special2? Could you clarify which is the best to use?
use special 2,
i left old one, if something wrong happens with new one.
are the attached apk's ones we can use or do we still have to make the app ?
You're app keeps giving me errors and the Facebook login prompt thingy is giving me an error as well.
Jelly Bean btw.
your app force closed and then it worked....odd.
Quick question, can i choose what fb name to sync with what name? I don't sync the fb contacts with my google contacts, but a display picture for the people would be sweet, but i have them all with nicknames in the phone and not the name as in fb.
will this fix where sense has blurry photos? and which apk should i install for that?
Does it work with MIUI4?
Hello.
Thanks for the hard work.
Does this app sync photos properly with MIUI4? I think they use a higher resolution that normal.

Yes, you can chose it from results view, long press the facebook username and click link to contact.
This program not intended to work with gingerbread, also i'm not sure it will work on 4.1.
You can use the attached apk, video is for creating facebook application. You will use that application id to fetch photos from facebook.
The application fetches the best sized photo on facebook profile, it will use highest resolution.

[Q] Apps for Jelly Bean

Hello All
This is my first post in XDA. I am new to Android and to Nexus 4. I want your advise in choosing some apps, as I have found some drawbacks in the native apps:
1. No speed limits in GMaps - Ulysse Speedometer is a good app to overlay your speed over Maps but speed limit is not visible.
2. No composer filtering in GMusic - I am used to this feature and have my music setup for my old iPod
3. No way to remove Picasa albums from Gallery - I think the only option is to delete all my albums and create a local copy.
4. No way to review photo immediately after capture - This is important; sometimes if for some reason, the photo does not come out well and if I can re-capture the moment, I have to go into Gallery to review it.
5. No drafts syncing of my corporate email account - Important feature for me.
6. No Facebook contact sync - I found some apps to sync photos, Bdays - but not anything close to LinkedIn type of syncing for Facebook in the Contacts app.
If you recommend any apps to overcome any of these drawbacks, that would be helpful. Thanks!
1. Sorry, I don't care for speed limits since I don't have a driving license
2. Poweramp - the best player for Android IMO
3. Quickpic
4. If you're rooted, search for Android 4.2 Camera here on XDA...swipe to quickly review the photo and then swipe back to return to the camera
5. Sorry...I only use gmail
6. Haxsync - paid, but the best
Thanks for your reply tadeas482. I appreciate it!

[Q] newbie to android. Have some Q's

Hi TIA for helping.
issues need help with
1) how do i play music movies? on the ios itunes handle everything. i searched and most mfg has their own skinned player, but naked android??? cant figure it out.
2) how do i delete photos from "gallery" autobackup album?
3) is there a app to import profile pics to contacts from G+ (even if they are not in your circle). I had luck with a FB importer called sync.me
4) whats a good flash light app that doesnt require launching the app to activate. ie: activate with 3taps of the volume key.
5) can some explain to me hangouts. someone said its like imessage but i dont get it yet. imessage was based on phone# or email. hangouts if i am understanding is tied to your circles (of which i have 0). please correct me if i have it wrong.
6) is there a way to see notifications on the lock screen with a swipe down. (i have a pin enabled). - i dont like unlocking to see the notifications.
1) Google play music or any music player you get on the play store will easily play any music. For Android, there is no itunes (duh) , so either download music and have it on googles cloud services, or you can drag and drop the mp3 files into your phone.
2) Well if these photos are from your google account/gmail , heres what you can do first go to settings -> Google -> under accounts select the gmail -> uncheck Google Photos or Google+ photos. Then from your homescreen, hit the app drawer, press and hold gallery, drag it to the top where it says app info. Then press clear all data and clear all cache (this doesnt delete any photos, so it wont cause any harm). By doing this you won't have the auto synced photos anymore.
4) theres plent of flashlight apps that all do the same. just search up flashlight on playstore and the first few results are your best bets.

1) Google Play music comes with your phone and its awesome. You can use it as a subscription for unlimited streaming or upload your own music and stream it (or DL onto the device).
2) Go to settings>apps>all>gallery>delete cache and app data (you'll also want to go to settings>accounts>google account>uncheck the photo account stuff from there.
3)Unsure, try going to G+ app and having it sync contacts
4)I use smart tools...it has a bunch of tools in it and also includes a flashlight "widget". To add a widget, go to your app drawer, press widgets at the top and drag and drop the widget onto your home screen.
5) Hangouts is just a central location or Google hangouts and SMS. You can hangout with your friends if they also have hangouts or you can SMS them normally.
6) I don't think you can swipe down when you have a PIN (defeats the purpose of the pin). Try Dashclock in the app store. It has some cool extensions and might be able to help.
Let us know if you need any more help!
Thanks everyone.

Google+ Photos... a nightmare to use?

Google Photos looks really good but that's pretty much where the magic ends, I don't know if I'm using it wrong but mass deleting photos for example is a nightmare (on android and on desktop) there's no option to select all pictures, , no option to save a copy of all the photos to the computer, I have to pick the photos I want one by one , there's no option to delete the pictures of the auto backup on the android app and on desktop when I try to delete pictures it keeps crashing it doesnt matter if I'm using Chrome or Firefox
Random complain: I can't believe you can't send more than one picture af a time using hangouts

I wouldn't call it a nightmare but it does have some drawbacks. When you have auto upload turned on it generates a lot of extra deleting for me as well. The best you can do is select multiple at the same time as I dont think there is a delete folder option. I think you can select multiple to download as well but no there is not a download all option.

I am completely baffled with taking storing and transferring pictures. I'm a real noobie with android and smart camera. I started experimenting with the Nexus 5's camera today. I took two pictures and couldn't figure where the pictures are. There are two apps, Photos and Gallery. Once I began to crop and adjusted exposure, the nightmare began. Suddenly there are back up files sent to Google + and trying to send pictures to my computer was a separate nightmare. I managed to transfer some pictures to my Google Drive, but what a mess, I still don't know what I did and couldn't repeat my transfer again. Forget about deleting Google+ pictures. there were a couple of "Can't delete this file" messages.
My question is, is there a primer for how to save and transfer pictures on the Nexus 5. I hate fumbling around my phone, Im afraid that I may cause some real damage that way. So far in order take one picture ends up traveling from Camera to Photos to Gallery to Drive to Google+ and a DCIM folder. Descriptions like nightmare, baffling and mess comes to mind.
A sort of clumsy workaround is to use Dropbox's camera backup. That will get your pics on your computer.
Then you can manually upload the pictures you want to G+. I use Picasa for this on Windows. If you enable sync for your albums, autoawesome'd pictures get downloaded back form G+ to your computer again.
Not ideal, but easier than dealing with the autobackup hassle, I feel.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that's at least a level beyond my understanding. I'm in need of understanding basics about how and where files go. Where does the original file go, are edited files saved? If so, where are they? What Apps display what? Are Google+ pictures linked or copied? I thought Lightroom had a steep learning curve, but the Nexus 5 picture handling feels mind numbing and confusing. I'll figure it out sooner or later, but it would be nice to have a manual of some kind, instead of hunt and peck your way through. I was able to upload picture files up to my Google Drive, but it's not obvious. I just need to remember how I did it and what was the logic involved. I also need to figure out what gets sync'd, which just adds to my confusion. It feels that Android's automatic processes to display pictures to Google+ gums up basic photo editing work flow.

The photos go onto the internal 'sdcard' into the folder 'DCIM/Camera'
If you edit files in the Gallery app, the edited files you save end up there as well.
Not 100% sure the original, unedited files are kept, but you can undo all changes you made by pressing the 3 dots for the menu, then choosing "Reset". In other words, editing photos on your phone will always keep a backup of the original photo.

Both Gallery and Photos show the images you have on your Nexus.
Gallery has a bit more 'normal' layout, where you can pick the folder on the SDcard or G+ Album you want to look at.
In Photos you have the "Camera" and "Highlights" tabs. Camera shows you photos on your device.
Highlights show you a handful of photos from albums that are synced from G+.
Are Google+ pictures linked or copied? & I also need to figure out what gets sync'd

If you have AutoBackup enabled in "Photos" or Google+ (Photos is technically part of G+) then all photos you take will be uploaded to your Google+ Photo section/Picasa webalbums. These pictures are private and only you can see them until you choose to share them. In the G+ Photo they have a special section called "Auto Backup" under the "More" menu where you can find all those photos for moving them to Albums etc.
Now my approach is to not use G+ Autobackup, but to use the camera backup feature of Dropbox. This way, all my photos get synced to my computer first, then I manually upload my images to G+ for sharing. For archive purposes, I use Picasa to upload folders to the Google servers after I have sorted and processed the files locally.
Hope that helped explain some of the points.

That's exactly what I do with my photos, i deactivated Photos (google+) auto upload feature, because it only backups the photos on the cloud, not on my computer, It would be ideal if google Drive had an option to upload the photos to your computer, I ended up using Dropbox's auto backup feature
Just saw that Google axed the gallery on 4.4.2 on the Xperia Z ultra, quite interesting , they really new to step up their game is they're planning on axing it too on the nexus 5

What's so special about Gallery? There are tons of third-party apps you can use if you don't like Photos.
Why not try "Gallery KK"?

I really really like the look of Photos , i'm just pissed that it's missing functionality that the old Gallery had, that's all , I checked your recommendation but it's only the stock gallery app, improved , I guess I'll continue to use the old Gallery app until they fix Photos
