[Q] Battery charge went from 20% to 55% after 7 hours - really? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Charged it all night.
Is this a problem, or normal?
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Could your cable possibly have come loose? I haven't seen anybody with this problem.

How are you charging your infuse?
With the stock cable and wall charger, stock cable and computer, or some other way?
If you are using the stock wall charger maybe the charger is going out. First try charging it another way and that should tell you if it is the wall charger, USB port on the computer, the phone, or even the battery on the phone that might be going out.

even i see that charging on infuse is very very slow... but not as slow as u have reported.. for me it takes like 6-7 hours for full recharge... that i feel is too slow compared to other phones i had... maybe bcos of larger battery... but even then it'll be a pain during travel..

From what I have read the phone charges at 600ma an hour so it should charge in around 3 hours. Maybe you have stuff running in the backgound. Try charging with the phone powered off just as a test and see what happens. I go from zero to 100% in under 4hrs with phone on and under 3hrs with it off. It also depends on HOW you charge it (wall charger, car charger, computer).
As for traveling, you can buy cheap batteries on eBay for $5 or 3 for $10 and some that even come with a free-standing charger. They are so small and light you could almost carry a weeks supply.

Wall charger with phone at idle and stock charge current limit should be 3-4 hours from dead at most.
A phone in operation will take MUCH longer to charge.

So, i am charging it with this very cheap-bought-on-ebay-from-China kinda cable, and attached to it is an adapter of sorts.
see pic.

Thats your problem cheap equipment leads to poor performance

Go to samsungs website and get the one that came with infuse or do a little searching on eBay. Look for OEM replacement

It probably isn't capable of delivering the proper current. I've seen chargers marked as 1A capable that were really only capable of 300-400 mA.

Official HTC chargers seem to work well - they're rated 1A instead of 0.7. The official Samsung charger also seems to be underrated as far as current, I pull 0.8 amps out of it on a regular basis with no problems.

That cable should work - it's more about the charger you plug it into that matters. Anything name-brand rated above 1A that is compliant with the USB Battery Charging specification should work. (Read: iPad/iPhone chargers need modifications or the phone will treat them as USB and limit charge current to 475 mA - but still that should be better than your current situation.)
For cables, I'm 100% happy with Monoprice cables. I have a pile of these in various lengths and they work great:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10303#1030307
For charging, get the 28/24 cables with ferrite cores - These have heavy-gauge power wires.

[Q] new to nexus !

does the phone really charge so slow??
There's already a few threads discussing the slow charge time. Seems to be an issue for many. All Galaxy S phones seem to take a lot longer to charge than say an iPhone.
My Nexus S always makes it through a good 16+ hour day without needing a charge, and I always charge overnight while sleeping, so I haven't personally noticed this as an issue.
Like any smartphone these days, it's probably a good idea to just partial charge during the day when you're in a situation (like the car, or at your computer desk) that lets you. It's not necessary to do the full drain, full recharge only with the current battery technology.
Its odd, mine and my wife's phones take maybe 3 hours to get to full from sub30% yet that seems to be the outlier.

Are you charging it on the supplied wall charger or through a computer's USB port? It charges significantly slower through a USB port than from the wall charger

Wall charger charges a bit faster than USB since its rated at 700 mA rather than 500 mA. Best bet would be to go with a car charger that charges at 1000+ mA.

If the voltage is correct, the amperage should not be an issue...the phone should only draw the current it actually wants/needs.
But bear in mind, if your phone blows up, it's not my fault, I have no experience with that charger or it's actual ratings.

Good Car Charger?

Does anyone know of a good car charger? You know, the kind that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket.
I had one at one time but it died after only a week of usage.
I got this one and it works fine with a spare microusb cable. Best part is that I can now have two phones charging at once.
Thanks!

In my opinion... I have wasted alot of $ on trying to get away cheap on a car charger. By far the best one is the official verizon one. It charges to 100% from 0 in less than 2hrs and charges while I am navigating, wifi tethering and using bt at the same time. Well worth the extra cash.

I got a similar one, but it has one port meant for an ipad/tablet, which outputs 2A - that is helpful for when I am running car navigation and wifi hotspot at the same time. I also had to get a charging-only usb cable because regular cables would trigger usb storage mode on the phone.

To bad the Charge won't draw more than ~0.8A... Also, it is the charger causing the phone to go to mass storage mode, not the cable. A microUSB cable is a microUSB cable, and if the cable says "charging only" they have the data pins shorted out (I believe that's what is done) and it really isn't fixing the root cause of the issue.

The only way you could speed up charging would be to modify it via the kernel, or try to force load a module that does the same thing. Odds are the fastcharger script just gets the system to recognize USB charging as a wall charger. Either way, I wouldn't recommend using anything that says it'll make your phone charge faster unless there was SIGNIFICANT data to support the claim as well as evidence that it doesn't harm the hardware.
Charging the battery too fast is very dangerous too. I tried "supercharging" one of my batteries and it almost caught fire.

It could be the cable, but the odds are against that. The way to tell if it was the cable would be to try it in another AC charger to see what it does.

Samsung smartphones and Tablets charge in std mode (Charging USB) unless the two data wires are "shorted". (I have seen it done directly in a high speed charge only cable or in the Samsung chargers. Some say they use a resistor.) When the data pins are "shorted", Samsung switches to high speed charging. (Charging AC). I have been harassing a factory overseas for a dual car charger (2100mA) with one std. Port (iPad) and one Samsung port. It should be available soon.

I haven't tried another car charger personally, but can vouch for the Verizon one. Always works for me and I just leave it plugged in the lighter outlet in my center console so whenever I need it, it's easy and quick to plug in the phone. Also has the scrunchy style cord to keep things neat. But at the same time, it makes it more difficult to use the phone while it's plugged in as it keeps wanting to pull back lol

[Q] Need some advice on a charger for my Galaxy SIII

I was using the stock 700mA charger that came with the SGSIII and immediately switched to the 850ma charger as the stock one wasn't giving it enough power to do anything even while charging. Well I just found my 1amp micro usb charger earlier today and have started using that because the 850 wasn't doing the job either with Pandora running while im doing stuff around the house. The S3 charges fine when I'm not messing with it at all but even the 1amp charger isn't keeping this beast completely charged when I'm watching youtube or something like that. Are there any 1.5 to 2amp chargers out there that will keep it from dying so fast even while using it? Thank you for any input you guys can give me . Oh and by the way I don't have power saving mode on as I can't stand the slowness of my phone and the display on max. When its charging I expect the charger to do its job and thats why I'm asking if a 1.5 or 2amp charger would do better. Thanks everyone.

That's strange because I use my 2amp car charger and it never loses power even when screen brightness is all the way up and navigation is going. Then I switched to my old 700mA charger and it drains really fast. So I'm pretty much confused now hahaha.

It seems to charge pretty fast from the A/C charger but plugging it in to your Pc seems to take FOREVER.
Mine takes forever charging no matter what. Ive put it on the charger at 50% and it took 3hours ish to get back to 100%. Granted my phone could probably go two days with four hours of on screen time too.
Granted I can't speak for stock because I rooted asap. I mainly use AC 95% too. Not sure if how much root affects it, I'm on synergy (awesome btw).

I am betting it's because most of us have 1amp or 2.1 amp chargers available in the car. I, personally, still use the motorola 950mAh car charger, which speeds thru the charging process too.
USB still pumps out 500 mAh at best, always gonna be slow.
None of this has to do with the phone, btw.

Lol I'm the opposite. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus this phone charges much slower. Galaxy Nexus would be fully charged in maybe an hour and a half. With the GS3 it's closer to 3 hours for a full charge. Hear it's the low-power brick that comes with it though.

Yep. For example, the Motorola SPN5400A will charge the S3 in about 1\2 to 1\3 the time it would take if plugged into a USB port. I honestly believe it's because it has quality internal circuitry. Hell, at .95 mAh it charges quicker than most 2.1mAh chargers. Again, has nothing to do with the phones, it's the chargers that come with.
mine charges pretty quick as well. best phone ive had hands down.

3 hrs seems off. I think I could wire mine to my electric razor and charge it faster
From the I-killer
Just for info, my wireless energizer pad and Verizon wireless door charge faster than the factory charger. And my factory charger will charge between 1.5 and 2 hours from 3% or 4%.
If you are taking over 2 hours I would check the battery and make sure it isn't swollen or something wrong with it. As far as usb most ports are "as stated above" not going to supply juice fast enough to charge quickly.
And it's probably worth seeing if something is on thats sucking power, Bluetooth, gps, facebook, anything that sync's alot. And using almost as much power as the usb is putting out.

Adjust accordingly. Just know that if u do replace the cable or use another charger, the charging rate won't be as fast. See https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oneplus-one-charging-cable-alternative.68517/
But I completely agree, it should have been longer. I just adjusted accordingly and all is good now, the cable should have been at least 6 ft.
