Best Free File Sharing Website? - General Questions and Answers

I know this is a bit off topic but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a site to share my .EXE file (or .ZIP) with others? I don't mind creating an account to upload my file(s), what I DON'T want is for others to have to do anything to download it. I don't want them to have to sign up, or be added to my friends list, because I have no idea who will be downloading the file.
Thank you!

Probably one of the quickest websites for uploading and a VERY accessible site for those downloading what you are uploading is dev-host.org!!
AGAIN...MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!

Dropbox, Sugarsynch, and most painless of all is Google Docs. Upload, set to share and give friends share url. (1GB file size limit).

It is possible to upload every filetype or is google checking for docs?

+1 dropbox

I like mediafire, cause there's no waiting for people who are downloading the file.

Depending on how many people download your file from your public dropbox folder, they will block it if you get over a certain quota of traffic.

How do you upload things besides photos from mobile? Is it possible?
Depends on where you're uploading it to. I use AndFTP to transfer files to and from my server. There's also dropbox...
I can get it to dropbox, but how do I get it to xda from there?
Oh, you meant to xda, I thought you meant in general.. you won't be able to with tapatalk. Maybe through the browser by using the full xda.. Simplest way would be to upload somewhere else and simply post the link.
Ok. Thanks. I appreciate your help.

[App]Mediafire App for Android

You can use this app to search and download All Mediafire files which are indexed and are available publicly through the web.
In simple terms u can search and download anything hosted on Mediafire.
market://details?id=com.arv.mediafyre
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.arv.mediafyre
If u like it please rate and share it with your friends.
Any problems? suggestions, u can post it here or contact me via pm or through market.
EDIT: Sorry guys mediafire practically has no files left to search, So no point in re-uploading another version.
Edit: Mediafire has deleted most of the files, so this app is no more.
Well I thought it was great.....
Regards
Well thx.. Its easier for me to search now. And its almost the same as 4shared

This actually makes things easier. Thanks for that one
Worked fine for me, did just what it's supposed to. 5/5
I'll give it a shot. I choose mediafire over most file sharing site anyway.

Works great dude! Just downloaded it and I think I'll be using it a lot here in the next week.....THANKS again!!
Thanks guys that's all i needed to hear although i have a question
Should i add 4shared results to the search too or just leave the app the way it is.
Its good as it is but if you did add 4shared results try to limit it to 1 or the other. I wouldn't want to get 4shared results in my mediafire search
I can't download properly from mediafire from the start, with my phone. Always download a few kb and "download complete". Anyone had this problem?
Anyway the app works snappy, saves time in the searching. Good app.

I think you are right I'll probably do another app for 4shared, the one they have right now is pretty much their site in browser but again mine is not too different either.

well the only thing i can say from your comment is maybe your browser is not handling the request properly, u didn't say which phone u have either so I cant really make out anything off it but its guaranteed that if u try another rom or if u reinstall your existing Rom the problem sud go away. If u don't want to do that u sud probably post Ur logcat here. maybe something in there will give me or u a clue about whats going on or what's the problem.
And don't forget to rate the app
This app will ocme in handy. Thankls!
@consegregate Hey i just experienced this problem where i wasn't able to download a big file, turns out it was a just due to lack of memory, it was a common mistake a lot of other people were making too, So u should check that just in case.
@Rigy73 -- could you update the link in your OP, it no longer goes to your app. This one should work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arv.mediafyre

hey great app.. thanks for that.. but i found a big problem.. it doesnt show file size before starting download in search results.. then when the download starts.. it doesnt give option to cancel it.. also it would be nice to be able to resume download.. as mediafire allows it..

Lg and Box.net give you 50gb of storage

Downloa Box.net from the app store and activate it on your G2x for 50 gb of storage Once claimed, your account will have 50GB of free, secure file storage and sharing forever. Its not ICS, but it is a nice plus for owning our phone! Box.net has just replaced my dropbox!
More info is here and the market link is here
no mass upload?
Edit: that app is under featured severely. No multiple selections. Can only upload and download individual files.
not without
upgrading required for mass upload.
But
Webdav is built right into it so add a network drive at https://www.box.net/dav and login...
Snap. Downloaded app and signed up. 50gb upgrade rewarded instantly. Sweet.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
What upgrade? No paid app in the market and no upgrade option in the app.
Awesome. 50Gb storage instantly.
Thank you for sharing!

Use a web browser to box.net for upgrade options. I like the webdav approach though. The Professional account is 10 bucks/month.
Nice, creating an account was a breeze and uploading works just fine. Thanks for the tip.

Using AirDroid may help. I haven't tried it with Box yet, so it's iffy.
Some people are just never happy. Here you have 50GB of free storage more than you will get for FREE from any other service and yet people have to still be NEGATIVE!!
P.S. - There is a bulk upload feature.

Eh, ill be the dude who has issues.
I'm using a nightly build of cm7, if that matters.
I downloaded it, launched it, registered for an account all on my phone. (G2x)
Check the settings and it still has me at 5Gbs, any thoughts?
Well 50gb storage is 50gb storage. Can't complain here!

To upload more than one file, don't use the box app. Go to Gallery (or whatever file browser for files) and select all the files you want to upload. Then go to Share, Box.net. It will then upload all the files for you.
I keep getting plz enter a vaild email add when the add that i am putting inis vaild. I have tried it with two different emails. Wont work fr me using the box.net app.
Edit: I was using the Boxroid app not box. Using box got me the 50gb nice thanks for te tip.

Spent an hour with file expert first trying to get webdav to work (kept getting inaccessible folder errors) and then when I tried using file experts cloud management, Java memory errors. Your solution finally worked.
To the rest of you: I wasn't turning my nose up at free 50gb. But it seems an empty gesture when you can't use it. :/

Alternatives to flickr

Can anyone recommend any alternative sites WITH decent android one touch uploading apps?
I am looking for alternatives because I don't want to sign up for ANOTHER email address, which you have to have yahoo for flickr...
You guys were plenty helpful in tracking down some very good photo apps, so how about the next stage?
Any ideas? What do you use?
Picasa? There's a few apps that can upload to the google picasa besides the stock gallery. And pretty decent space for free. You can pay for additional space if needed.
google plus uploads all your pics automatically, and there's NO storage limit. Doesn't get much better than that...
Box.com offers a free file hosting service, and when you login from your Android phone until 3/23, you get 50GB lifetime storage for free. It's pretty much like DropBox, but there's no time limit on the storage. I just signed up. It's pretty sweet.

I would also say Photobucket.
Great app, give it a try.
Code:
h**p://alternativeto.net/software/flickr/
I went with box in the end and I am happy with it, I tried a few others first, and as nice as some of them are like picassa, they just don't work as simply as I wanted, and or didn't work.
Box still ahs issues, like I can only upload one file at a time via box app, but I can upload one or as many, tested with 130 files, as I seem to want, and it accepts more than just pics, so handy for backing up my favourite films too.
Thanks for the great link. THANKED

Bit the bullet and its real cloudy in here...

So I saw that progress is being made with root being available so I went ahead and bought the at&t htc one, its nice and lighter than my inspire. So maybe not having an sd card slot isnt going to be that bad with all the cloud storage available so I'd like to know from you guys using it which are the better cloud apps I should use where transferring media/docs is secure and fast. I'm pretty sure with this nice camera I'd like to take pics/video and not worry about space. I'm not so sure I'm interested in the dropbox offer for this phone where its only good for 2 years? I know I have 50GB on box.com but I think there are file transfer size limitations? Honestly never used it as I prefer my old trusty sd card.
Also, whats the best root method for this device?
You've got five gigs in google drive , I use box and dropbox no file limits on db, as for box I believe it's 100 mb limits with uploads, I've uploaded a few nandroids from gnex to bix with no prob

lol there is only 1 method to root .
and i use dropbox, configured so that it automatically uploads my pictures from my phone when on wifi
Box is useless for me since there's no sync agent on the desktop. I have 25gb on Skydrive but there's no sync on Android.
It comes down to gDrive an Dropbox. I currently use mostly Dropbox.

I swore I saw 2 methods in this dev section. One being the 1 click and the other being the perma root. Unless their considered the same?
Download the app etc. Then you do 7 easy steps well 6 for 25 gb

when you install dropbox you automatically get 25 gb bonus.*
there is a method to get a ton of free space via referals (i got up to 20 gb with this) going to have to google it because i dont think i can post on here*
*cough involves linux and virtual pc cough*
the 1 click is perma root
If you're like most, what you'll be moving around is likely to be music, pics, video, and files. One storage solution might not be the best for everything. Here's what I'm doing.
General - I have a home server and everything I have is on there. I stream video I've ripped off of it using Plex and/or PlayOn rather than screwing around with moving GB size files. If I'm traveling I'll download some stuff to watch when offline. Astro has a network module that allows me to move stuff at home and my server's a WHS and there's an app that gives me remote access if I want to d/l stuff on the road. A NAS or home server can be great when you have lots of content you view or share across your home network and remote devices.
Music - I use Amazon MP3 to store all my audio (I have it set to sync with my home server). The player shows what's local and remote via a single interface. It's not the prettiest app in the world but it's reliable and works well. I tried Google Music but didn't like the way it took over my phone.
Pics/Video - The Flickr integration built in to the phone's pretty cool. I moved from Photobucket because of it. I have it set in Sense to automatically upload the pics and videos I take. I use the mobile Flickr site to download and view stuff because adding the dedicated app confused the phone because of its native integration.
Docs and Files - I use Sense for SkyDrive because it's MS Office friendly when I want to share stuff with others. I'll use my home server if it's something I'll just be using myself. MS had a 25GB offer going for people already registered but I don't know if it's still in affect.
Just some real world stuff in case it helps anyone. There are dozens of ways to accomplish the same thing.
I use Google drive for music and drop box for other files. I downloaded an app to sync my music folder with Google drive when a change occurs in the folder. And other media and files to drop box using the same app.
I would however prefer to point the library in my player to Google drive directly or another cloud storage to avoid local copies.

It should be in accounts and sync greyed out or available to add. I have an international version so if AT&T chose to omit it as an "enhancement" let me know and I'll post the APK.
i have the att version and i don't find it in add account. can you provide the apk? thanks in advance

I use dropbox for photos, google music for music and this app called Folder Sync for general stuff.
Dropbox is good, but I have 25 gb on skydive and its amazing how you can use office 2010 on the desktop to edit your skydive files. Don't need to buy office ever again. Can't wait till they have a skydive app that can edit files.
Any news on skydive app for sense?

as far as file size limitations go... I've put files larger than 1GB on Google Drive. The one downside to Google Drive android app is I can't figure out how to copy files from Google Drive to my SDcard storage.
Here are the two SkyDrive APK's I found on the phone. Hope it works for you guys. If it does, you should see SkyDrive for HTC Sense appear in the accounts and sync.
