[Q] GSM, UMTS, 3g, and tmobile US question

Im thinking of buying an unlocked GSM phone (nokia e55) soon, but im confused by GSM and UMTS because ive never had a GSM phone before. heres what (i think) i know:
Dual band 3g: 900/2100 mhz, will work with tmobile US, but only on the 2100 mhz spectrum, means no roaming.
tri band 3g: 850/1900/2100 mhz, supports tmobile and at&t, the ideal type of GSM for US.
Quad band: not sure.
fortunately ive been able to find quite a few triband e55's, but i just want to make sure i dont buy a phone with no 3g (i would NOT be happy).
btw, tmobile is the carrier im looking to change to soon, so triband is what i think will suit me best. corrections welcome.

GSM bands and the "g"s

I'm looking to upgrade from my HTC Fuze (AT&T) to the Desire Z, but my main question is, even though it is a quad band phone, will it be able to utilize 3G technology?
With all these changes to frequency bands and technology, I'm at the point where I am not sure what the numbers and letters mean. The specs for the A7272 say it supports GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA 900/2100.
other variants of the Desire Z (A7275) says, GSM: 850/900/1800/1700 and UMTS: Band IV 1700/2100
I'm confused as to whether I will be able to use the phone as a 3G phone for both the US (specifically AT&T) and Thailand.
You can get the Bell (Canada) Desire Z, that includes support for at&t 3G
Sounds interesting. My main worry is using it in Thailand as well, but since I go back to Thailand once a year, I can live with edge i guess.

[Q] TF101G - 3G Network bands?

I want to buy a tablet in USA market, i like Asus Transformer, but I need support for 3G Networks on North & South America.
Can't find official info about the supported frequency bands
TF101G supports UMTS 850/1900 ? (required for South America)
Thanks!
It's Quad band
http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101G/#specifications
Thank you baseballfanz, you're right.
My confusion comes because Asus don't put frequencies in the specs:
Mobile broadband: GSM Quad bands, HSPA+ (I,II,V,VIII)
So, just for aclaration:
Band I (W-CDMA 2100)
Band II (W-CDMA 1900)
Band V (W-CDMA 850)
Band VIII (W-CDMA 900)
Regards.

4G on T-MOBILE AND ATT with 6inch AMOLED and LOVE

I need a phone with the following features:
1. 6 inch AMOLED screen
2. dual sim
3. dual core processor
4. To get 4G speeds on TMobile and ATT
This is the 1st and ONLY 6 inch phone that I have found which is listed to work on the following frequencies:
3G HSPA WCDMA (UMTS) 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
Quad-Band (4 Band) GSM GPRS EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
The phone model is: "EZIO N97" and it is selling on ebay for $271.
Can you please look at the specs and tell me if this phone will satisfy my needs.
The forum software will not let me post a link. But you can find it on ebay. It is being sold by the ebay user "tec-plus"
The title of the ebay listing is "*NEW* EZIO N97 6.0-inch ANDROID 4.0 3G GPS 8.0MP 2-SIM HD TABLET & SMARTPHONE"
If it does I will be sleeping with this phone everyday

This phone and most 2013 chinese market mediatek phone won't with USA 3g/4g network. The only Mediatek Quad Cores to with with 1900Mhz reframe TMobile/AT&T is the Blu Life Series Play,One, Pro and the Sony,LG phones with mediatek.

UMI X2 and T-Mobile 3G

I purchased the newly released UMI X2 Android phone. I am unable to use the TMobile 3G network. I am only able to use 2G/EDGE.
Voice and data quality are very bad, almost the phone is unusable. I spoke with T-Mobile and was informed that my modem does not support 1700 MHz and there are effort to re-farm TMobile network to support 3G on 1900Mhz but not set date yet. When I scan for available network I get three networks were available
T-Mobile 2G
AT&T 3G
AT&T 2G
Operating System: Android 4.2.1 OS
Processor: 1.2GHz MTK MT6589 quad-core processor
Connectivity Technology: GSM network & WCDMA - Standard SIM card
Network Band: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz & WCDMA 850/2100MHz
Data Technology: GPRS, EDGE, HSPA
Baseband version
MOlY.WR8.W1248.MD.WG.MP.V2.P1
I would appreciate any help to get my phone to work on 3G.
YAF, don't think it's possible to get UMI X2 to work with T-Mobile. You need UMTS support on AWS band.
Re-farming of network for 1900MHz support will not help you either - MT6589 only supports 850Mhz (AT&T band) and 2100Mhz(Europe).
Thanks CTPAHHIK
