Its not a flashable zip, its a nandroid backup so you must restore it thru recovery instead of flashing it. Unzip the v21e file and put the unzipped folder in your /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup directory. Then boot into clockworkmod recovery and select backup/restore and choose to restore the v21e backup. Wipe data and dalvik cache and reboot and you should be good to go.
If you need to restore stock recovery, use the nvflash one click tool to do so, but only AFTER you've restored v21e.

Possible Bricked G2x No NV Flash Back Up

I was flashing CM 7 nightly 49 and now my phone is stuck on the LG logo, how do I fix?
After reading all the steps req'd to "Flash a Rom" and "recovery" process, what part isn't working?

After going through the NV flash process and getting to the last step that says
Keep holding them, as soon as you see "ANDROID" in Green with the new boot logo let go of the buttons.
From there it goes into boot recovery. I then choose from one of the roms I have on my SD card, it loads okay but then when I try to reboot it hangs up on the LG logo again
What am I doing wrong
we def need more info then that like what recovery how did u install the rom did u wipe data then cache then dalvik? then install rom and gapps? did u install any kernels previously? and this is probably going to get moved it should be in general
ok when u go into recovery do u wipe data factory reset, then cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik then install rom and gapps and it should boot up fine, did u make a backup of ur stock rom first?

Damn. for one month on XDA you sure do have a lot of posts
On topic: I'm assuming you forgot to fully wipe before flashing the new rom.
If you can get into recovery, it's not bricked.
Read the install directions, you missed a step or got a bad download.. Or a bad build, as they are nightlys...
In recovery, do factory reset, then mounts and storage, select format system. Then install the rom.
Also, get the stock nandroid and put it on your card so you can drop to a known good setup.
I had back it up using rom manager but its on another computer. I took had gotten a SD card with more storage and never transferred it.

You could copy the backup from your computer and make a folder called clockworkmod/backup/ on your new SD and put the backup file in that folder. When you go into recovery, backup and restore. restore - it should be visible. Select it and you should be OK - IF your backup is good.
If not, download a ROM and Gapps with your computer and put them in the root of your SD. Then after a full wipe, flash them.
If you have the latest Recovery, you can mount storage and then cut and past to your device while connected. If not, or if you have any problems moving them, just take it out and do it while it is plugged in your computer.
You have several options - so one of them will work.
Want to thank all you guys. I got it working again.

[Q] nandroid to zip...

Is there a way to convert a nandroid backup into a flashable zip file? I would like to have the possibility of returning to my rooted rom if ever I decide in the mean time to go back to stock rom and don't like it.
The question has been asked a few times but has never, to my knowledge, received a clear answer.

A nandroid back up takes a snap shot of your entire OS. All of the /system files, all of the /data files. All the apps in their current state. I mean EVERYTHING is store in the nandroid back up. When you preform that there is a "backup/restore" option in the Clockwork ROM recovery image. You would just select "restore" then select the back up you want to store. I will advise you not to change the name of the file as the MD5SUMs will not match and it will not be able to load it. It's a flash-able .zip my nature. but it will verify it's own MD5SUM prior to flashing it.
which brings me to this point.
but to restore you nandroid you need to be a) rooted b)have clockwork installed.
Yup, you can do it, but you need a few things:
1) system.img and boot.img to flash
2) you'll also need a non-stock recovery, so if you return to stock, just go back to a rooted stock system, and keep the non-stock/cwm recovery so that you can apply the zip. This begs neidlinger's point above about just restoring your backup via recovery.
3) if you want to really cross your eyes and dot your tees, then you should also get the EBT partition from the stock firmware so that you can update the bootloader. Most people are fine using what ever old bootloader they had when they rooted, but I think it can cause bootloops with certain combinations.
So yes it can be done, but it's more an exercise in android-fu. You'll have to search around and take apart a few zips to figure it out.
what about this (just to see if I understand the approach): I make a cwm recovery of my present non-stock rom and I somehow manage to go back to a stock rom. If I miss my custom rom, I root , install cwm recovery and restore the backup stored on my external sd card...How is that?

That is correct
You are on a custom OS, you make a nandroid backup Via CRW (ClockWork Recovery) (it will store to the SDcard)
you go back to OE not rooted OS with stock recovery.
you don't like it, it's slow or ugly, what ever.
you re-root. Reinstall CWR
you wipe the device
select "backup/restore"
Then restore
and it will restore the Nandroid completely.
you boot the device to the exact point in which you left it.

probably you hadn't enough memory, when you backuped you rom.. you can't restore the system through cwm, you will have to extract it first.. do you have a bootloop? cause then you have to flash a kdz file

Thank you
any update on this
I was just having a problem with custom firmware. To get my original ROM back I simply pluged it into the official LG updater and it "updated" it back to the original firmware hope this helps
Note steps I took
Enter recovery wipe data then wipe cache
plug phone into computer
Ran LGMobile update
wait for error
Run LGMobile update again
wait for everything to finigh
enter recovery again wipe data /cache once again
boot up phone with original firmware and enjoy
also note that I did not make a recovery image all I did was plug it into the Lgmobile updater... It was a nail biter for a min I forgot to wipe the data and cache a second time after the "update" from the LGmobile updater and it sat and flashed the phone logo over and over. however after the second data wipe and cache wipe it booted and reconnected to the network again which ws the problem I was having with all the other custom roms I tried
Just checking if you got it

I have to ask but have you mounted the sdcard and checked on a PC if the file is there to verify? If you have/do and it's not there then as you have rebooted trying to recover files will be very hard to do and even then to get it back clean would be a mini miracle.

I had a similar issue. In case the SD card gets locked while getting a ROM to work, how will i access my backup? Is there no way to force mount the sd card partition using adb somehow?

[Q] How to install ROM after wiping internal storage?

I have a i747M GS3 and I wiped the internal storage. I am using twrp and made a backup. When trying to restore the backup, it does so successfully, but will not boot (goes straight to download mode). I tried using the adb sideload mode in twrp but that fails. Also tried mounting the sd card from the mount section of twrp but the phone does not come up on the computer. Essentially there are no files on the internal storage, besides a TWRP folder which I assume was auto-created when it tried to restore the backup. I have ROM files on my external card but when trying to flash those I get a "unable to open .zip" error. At this point I cannot do anything with the phone. Any help would be appreciated.
Using TWRP 2.6.0.0 and trying to flash an AOSP 4.2.2 ROM, and also tried a 4.1.2 TW ROM just to make sure.
Thanks.

That is exactly what I did. I got it back to a point where it is functioning but unfortunately the ROM backup (the one made with teamwin) just will not restore. I am trying to see if I can get the cwm backup I made restored. Otherwise I will just have to start from scratch with the ROM I had before (Illusion 2.1 beta - awesome btw). Thanks for the speedy reply
