As I'm sure many have noticed over the last few weeks, you can now make calls from within Gmail (in the web app anyway). I bought some credit for this and have been enjoying it's use.
I noticed that changing settings with this redirects you to Google Voice, and I got rather excited as until now it's not been available outwith the US. I installed the Google Voice App, but during setup after entering a PIN, I get this message:
"Your phone number could not be verified. Please try again"
Has anyone else ever seen this and/or has anyone from the UK got it to work?
same problem here, i'm just trying to sort it out

I need some help with GV, but I don't know if the problem is with my account or another GV account. Ok here's what is going on; my friend setup a GV number and account yesterday to use for our business and it goes straight to voicemail when *I* call it. One of our other friends called it sitting right next to us and his phone rings like normal. But I have been trying since last night and it has never rang once, it only says something like "the Google Voice subscriber is unavailable. He said this morning that no one at work is having any trouble with that number either, why is it just me?
We have the EXACT same settings on the app, the EXACT same settings on the web version, he can call my GV number and it rings just fine, I have called his GV number with my GV number AND my Verizon number. Nothing works and I have tried everything! Do Not Disturb is not checked, he has no special call settings for particular numbers, groups, days or times.
It's almost like it's blocking me automatically, but everyone else has no problem. I have had GV since it came out and have never had a problem before. Can anyone please help?
I noticed the EXACT same thing.
I lost my wallet at GreatClips after I got my hair cut (it was under a towel).
I drove home and looked high & low but couldn't find it.
So I figured I left it in my Semi-Truck and called them to tell them I had to drive 20 miles and would be back to pay.
They said they found it and tried to call.
When I got there they called my phone (GV #) and I got the same recording you did.
I haven't heard of this before until now, I thought it was because I'm using version 0.3.4
Google "Google Voice issues" and it'll direct you to their help forum.
Hello, This is my first post, I've done a lot of searching on here and google and am at my wits end with my google voice account and my new phone (Droid Charge).
It was working fine with my previous phone...and still does if i swap it to foward to it (Sprint - Blackberry Style).
I'm running PBJT kernel, and GummyCharged 1.7.5 - and did a wipe and cleared all of the options available to clear when flashing my rom.
Here is the problem: When I add my verizon droid charge's phone number into my google voice account it wants me to verify the phone. I hit call to verify but I never get the call. The only issue I could find on google voice help was people having problem entering the two digit code after the call comes through. That's not my problem. My call never comes through.
If I set it to another number, a different cell phone or land line...it rings and I can enter the 2 digit code, and it's working perfectly.
If I try to use the "add this phone" through google voice on my droid charge. It looks like it verifies because on the google.com/voice in the phones section it no longer says I need to verify. However, still having an issue because if you call the google voice number, it will not ring my verizon number (droid charge). It's worth noting that If I text it works. Just not the calls. Also if I leave a voicemail it will notify me on my phone as it should. The application works fine, etc. Just have never gotten it to ring my phone.
I'm about ready to have Verizon try and change my phone number, but wanted to ask here if anyone had any ideas to try. I honestly cannot remember if I tried to do it before rooting this phone, but my gut tells me I tried and it still didnt work. And yes, the checkbox to "forward calls to phone" is checked.
I've also tried from a friends google voice account seperate from mine. Tried to have them add my number, then when they need to do the verification step that calls the phone....of course...I never get the call.
Frustrating!
Thank you for any insight...
Is your GV number your primary number? If not you could also port your number over as an alternitave: google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1065667
I know that there is an error saying my carrier is not supported when I try to setup my voicemail with the Charge, so I think it is either the phone or LTE. I had no problems setting it up when I used my Moto Droid, so I know Verizon works.
Since I'm already setup, I just ignore the error. That might not help you much, but like the suggestion porting your number will be your best bet. I hear switching back to a 3g phone temporarily will disable your sim card, and you'll have another headache on your hands.
Thanks for the replies. My sister actually has the same phone but stock etc etc. Going to have it forward to hers and see if that is a fix. I dont really want to have my google voice be my only number but I may do that porting if worse comes to worse.

Ok so I know I know I shouldn't have done it, but it's too late for that now, so please don't say don't I shouldn't have done this.
Someone took over my cell number with Google Voice and is texting and calling people about items on Craigslist. Then the poor people call me thinking I'm interested in their items. Arggg for both of us!!!
Ok so her's how it started:
I get a text from someone interested in buying my item
I text back and forth with them
They say, "I'll call you to set-up a pick-up time/location, when I call just press 01 and it will connect us"
I get a call and it's google voice, I press 01 and then it asks me to set-up my voicemail
Now I am getting calls from random people about their stuff they want to sell me...Arg!!
Went to google.com/voice and thought let me set-up an account before they get a hold of my number completely, but it was too late. I get the error "Account Creation" "There was an error with your request. Please try again"
I've never used Google Voice before today.
Tried it about a million times on, Android, FF, IE, and Chrome with the same result.
Anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks
How did they "take over" your number?
What carrier are you on?
You have never set up Google voice prior to this happening?
I am curious as I use Google voice entirely now despite Sprints vvm. I like the features and abilities I get with it.

are you sure that someone isnt just emailing your number to people?
I'm on t-mobile.
They didn't take over my number completely, I'm getting calls and texts from people I know too, but also calls from people who say I called them about their items.
No I never had Google voice before.
Swyped from my P509 on Tmobile.
With Swype and Flash, why would anyone choose the iPhone?
Perhaps they setup google voice account based on your phone number. But since it is your phone number that is linked to this google voice account, you maybe able to gain control of it.
First try to find out the phone number that people are dialing when they call you. I don't meant the people you know, I am talking about the people who call you randomly and tell you that you called them about some craigslist add. This will be the google voice number that is linked to your cell number.
Now if you call this number, the system might recognize you as owner and let you access the account from your cell phone, listen to voicemails and change greetings.
You might need to setup a google voice account for yourself using your home phone number for example and try to reclaim your cell number.
Well it's been about a week with no more calls to my phone from people I don't know about stuff I'm not selling...I hope it resolved itself.

My phone is setup to use Google Voice for voicemails, but as of a couple days ago VMs are no longer going to GV and instead goes to the standard verizon voicemail.
Now when someone leaves me a voice mail, I get a notification in the notification bar, but I get the standard VM notification, not the GV one and nothing ever shows up in GV. Ive set my phones "voicemail service" setting to "my carrier" and deactivated GV (by dialing *73) and then able to access the Verizon VM via *86. I then tried reactivating GV by dialing *7 then my GV number and uninstalled/reinstalled GV app on my phone, but people are still directed to the verizon VM and not GV.
The only thing Ive changed in the last couple days is Ive applied the wifi prompt hack from here and the Wifi Toggle mod from here (which Ive since run the "return to stock" package).
Im running rooted stock ICS and below is a screenshot of the notification.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
In call settings, is Google voice an option?

There is and it's currently selected.
I have the same problem - callers hear "this voicemail has not been setup" even though my GV greeting is set.
edit - to OP, make sure you've activated your phone number for GV voicemail in the google voice website.
Are the phone and correct number listed in Google Voice settings (online) as having been activated for Google voicemail?
You mentioned using *7GoogleVoiceNumber - isn't it supposed to be *71GoogleVoiceNumber ?
- ooofest
I have had this happen once or twice, each time I would have to dial *71<then your google voice number> and hit the send call button. This basically tells Verizon to forward missed calls to your GV voicemail.
You can also call Verizon and ask them what your call forwarding is set to, and they can fix it there as well.
For what it is worth though, I have been able to use the setup Voicemail feature within Google Voice, it would always come back with some kind of carrier issue.
Try the following 3:
*71 GV #
*90 GV #
*92 GV #
Ive verified Google Voice is configured for voice mails via the web site (which you can see in the 1st screenshot below). Ive also verified my voicemail carrier is set to Google Voice and that it matches my actual google voice number (seen in screenshots 2 and 3).
Ive also dialed the 3 numbers in the previous post (*71, *90, *92 + GV#) and verified voicemails are still being left on verizon. Ill call them tomorrow to verify my phone is in fact fowarding as it should be though.
Finally, just to make sure GV was actually working I also verified that calling my actual google voice number and leaving a voicemail does show the notification on my phone in the GV app.
Really not sure how in the heck this happened, like I said, Ive been using this without issue for months, and it wasnt until a day or two ago that this started happening. Is it possible that either of those hacks/mods applied caused this? I didnt realize until after I applied them that some mods require a deodexed ROM, so wasnt sure if that was the culprit.
Hoping to figure this out rather then revert to an old nandroid backup.
Thanks again all, really appreciate the responses so far.

I had this problem too... On my Galaxy Nexus I could just play back my voice mails right through my main phone applications phone log but now with this phone I had to uncheck the box in google voice (on your phone) that says "Voicemail Display" allowing you to view and playback your voicemails from your call log. Soooo, I get all of my notifications now but they are through the google voice app instead of my phone app... Does this make any sense to you cause I am really tired but I tried everything and this was the best option... So uncheck the box for "Voicemail display" in google voice settings on your phone and you should be good to go if that is what you are looking for?? Also you can go right to your account online and make sure it is setup to forward to your gv number... Just go to "My Verizon and then My plans and services and then you will see a image at the top right of the screen saying "I want to" and hit the plus sign and you will see the options for forwarding your number.... Again, hope this helps a little but I don't know how your setup was before so I am just basing it on what my setup is...

While I didnt really follow the first part of your post, I did try changing forwarding via My Verizon as you mentioned and sure enough, that did the trick! For whatever reason the * commands must not have been working, but all works as it should now.
Thanks!
Yesterday 1 call went to my Verizon voicemail. All the rest went to Google Voice. It was late in the evening (around 6pm est). Working fine this morning. Someone must have pulled the wrong switch again at the mothership.

When I first configured my Verizon line and Android phone for Google Voice (with my Droid Incredible), it turned out that I had to call Verizon to have them properly enable forwarding because the * codes were not working. They said there was a configuration problem with my account, which took a couple levels of Support to eventually fix. So, I guess that means they could accidentally screw up anyone's account after-the-fact, too.

Here is my situation, on January 10th I switched over to the new sprint framily plan. After that I was not able to make or receive calls to my phone. I did not realize this until a few days later because I do not use my phone for calls that much. Also when I switched plans the the next day I received an email from Google notifying me that my google voice integration has been disabled. I have tried everything I can think of on my part to fix this problem: use the sprint reset dialer code *#*#72786#*#*, flashed different roms, tried different kernels, returned my phone to stock rom, updated prl, updated profile. After all of that I called sprint had them reset the network and that did not work. I called Google they tried to troubleshoot it, but the only option they could come up with is to RMA my device, which I am debating on doing. Searching the forums brought up nothing so I decided to stop this thread and was wondering if anyone has gone through the same problems? I would also like to know if they have what is the solution?
Are you getting an error code when you dial? Or a busy signal?
Sprint *should* be able to push HLR (Home Location Register) updates to your phone, so that the information matches Sprint's network. I'd call them again.

Thanks Ill call them again and ask for that. It gives me no error code it just says call cannot be completed at dialed.

So I had the same situation as you. I called Sprint and they couldn't get Google voice to work. I kept getting the "we could not connect your call" error. Sprint had to completely take Google Voice off my Sprint line so I could receive calls and make calls. I was able to get Google Voice as my voice mail again but not the "integrated" way. Google voice gave me an error when I tried the integrated way. I'm guessing Sprint will be working on this the next few weeks and have it fixed...hopefully.
Any resolution? This same thing is happening to me. It's annoying.
Try taking it to a sprint store That has a repair center and have them take off Google voice that's what worked for me.
Good luck bro

I switched to Framily yesterday and experienced broken GV integration afterwards. Here is what worked for me: Go to your Google Voice website (sorry I'm to new to post the link), delete the mobile device and add it back as a new new number. Completes verification. Works again.

So the Framily plan is still compatible with Google Voice?
I swapped over to the Framily plan yesterday, woke up and found my calls/texts not working properly, spent three hours on the phone to fix it, and I still can't get GVoice integration to go through.
"Unfortunately, Google Voice integration cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone."
