[Q] HTC Update problems - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for having to start a new thread here, but I can't post a response where I want for lack of permissions.
I am attempting to update my Trophy from 7712 to 7720 and am having no luck. I have followed all the troubleshooting steps that people have provided and still cannot get it to update from 7712 to 20. So my question is now, how do I get it back to NoDo using the backup that was created before updgraded to 7712?

I think you can do this by going to zune>setting>phone>update>restore to earlier time.

So I went and had a look. Freaking backup was deleted when I tried going back to retail version of Zune. So now I can't do that either. Looks like I'm up ****s creek when it comes time for the Mango public release unless I can figure out how to get it to update to 7720...

Unlock WP7 after installing Mango?

I have an unlocked HTC HD7, but don't have a developer account.
I have only just read that installing Mango re-locks your phone.
How would I unlock my phone after installing Mango?
I'm half way through installing Mango lol...
I have registry editor and touchXperience (dunno if they will work on Mango)
I also done the thing to stop the phone being re-locked (the HTC only thing where you install HTC Connection Setup and put the CustClear.provxml on your phone)

Try a search or try reading a couple threads, all of this has been answered already numerous times.
Mango re-locks your phone, and any homebrew apps you have installed will not work once you update to Mango. There is no way to Chevron unlock your phone at all yet. You need a developer account to unlock, and even then, because of new app restrictions Mango introduces, certain homebrew apps (particularly ones that mess the the system itself) will no longer work.
I did read other threads but couldn't make out a straight answer :/
Damn, so you think we're gonna have to wait for Chevron Labs or will someone here crack it?

The Chevron people will not crack it because they are not working directly with Microsoft to offer a cheap solution for non-developers to unlock their phones. Those plans have yet to be announced yet, but its coming soon.
I'm assuming eventually, someone other than the Chevron people will figure it out. They always do.
I have an idea Im going to try out tonight. Dont know if the mango update is gonna delete/move/overwrite the file but if the file is still there from unlocked nodo to mango then it should unlock the phone again after the mango update allowing you to install advanced config and preventing relock and allow max unsigned apps.
Tried to do it this morning but me being stupid forgot to prevent relock when updating nodo. So I ended up just updating all the way to mango and will reflash a pre-nodo rom and try it all again when I get a couple of hours to myself tonight.
As long as the file doesnt get touched, which it might not since all my other stuff was still there after mango though I couldnt use it, I cant see it not working. Though Im not a super techie.
How about the Trick with the HTC Connection Setup? We just need to put the Provxml in the Windows folder before updating and after the successfully Update start the HTC Connection Setup to rewrite the Registry Information!?

Just downloaded from market and works fine. Wasn't under HTC apps though. Had to search for it.
Did you sideload it on before mango? Cuz I planned on installing it from the market when on unlocked nodo.
And I'm gonna give it a go now. I'll report back.
It Worked.... I repeat IT WORKED.
Gonna start a new thread with my custclear.provxml. Ill link to it in a few minutes.
Heres the thread with my custclear.provxml file and a short rundown.

recover the backup made during update process
hmm, how do I get the backup file?
In Zune go to the update page of your phone. After Zune finished searching updates for your phone their should also be a possibilty to restore a backup. You can also use this tool to restore your backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011
The location of your backup is:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\
EDIT: If you don't see a possibilty to restore your backup in Zune & don't see any files in the "Windows Phone Update" folder & don't have a developer unlocked phone & didn't move your backup to any other location: The only two ways to get a developer unlock are:
1. Flashing an older ROM to get back to 7004 or 7008.
2. Register as a developer at Microsoft - this costs money.
experience7
okay, I get it now.. thanks a lot..
Result: I flashed with an older ROM, to 7004
can provide link to the 7004 htc mozart rom? thanks.
Please help me!
The story is this... I've updated my phone first to 8112 and I used like 4 language packs, everything was OK, so I did the 8773 update using more languages (I believe six of them) and now I can't access to the about section (no, I cannot do a hard reset) to the WIFI settings, also to the add new email, the thing is that I cant restore it also because zune keep saying to me that I have no restore point in this PC (thats wrong, i DO have one) and theres nothing that I can do...
I've tried to send the language packs in order but the phone keeps telling me "update unsuccesful" So... What can I do? How can I reinstall new software or restore it? HELP PLEASE!

It appears that your phone is in an unstable state (I suspect due to missing language packs sent during the update)
The last generated backup would be at the the following location:
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone
If the backup does exists at the above location maybe try using WPCabSender to do the restore.
Also is it possible that the phone is in a guest sync relationship within Zune? Maybe that could be a reason why Zune does not "see" the backup in this case.
If worse comes to worst, I think you might have to flash it back to your original ROM and start over.
Ttblondey ,thanks a lot....

[Q] Possible to S-off/root after FOTA 1.47.401.4?

Hi, guys.
I've just started using my Desire S and have updated to (OTA) 1.47.401.4. From my previous experience with Wildfire (Buzz), you could not root your phone anymore after some update... So far I'm running on stock software;haven't done anything to my new phone yet, but I'd like to try some custom ROM with sense 3.0.
So, would you be so kind and olease tell me whether it is safe to go on with S-OFF and ROOT procedures as described in guides on this forum, after the above mentioned update?
Thanks a lot in advance!
It is described for right that version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194488
I have gone through this with 1.47 too without any issues.
Thanks for the tip...
But as I've been reading thru the forum, no one seems to have problems after updating with the stock update to the 1.47.401.4. version...
OR, did all of those just update to the mentioned version with a custom ROM?
Would any of you who have updated via the OTA update please confirm that it is safe/no problem S-OFF-ing and rooting the phone with Revolutionary and SuperOneClick? After the 1.47.401.4. OTA, that is?
Please, I don't wonna screw myself into bricking my phone or putting myself in a situation from which it would take me hours to get it back on track again. And there is no straight answer to my question.
Just a simple "YES" or "NO" will do...

[Q] Windows Phone Mango Upgrade Fail

Ok my problem is I used the tool to upgrade my Windows Phone to mango beta 2 (build 7712) from NoDo. I then got a new computer. No longer having the old NoDo backup I cannot revert, but then Microsoft said you would not have to go back to NoDo. So I have tried multiple times, but everytime I try to upgrade to the RTM 7720. It fails at the end and gives me an error code 80180048 and then my phone is fine, but is still on 7712. I have also hard reset it and that didn't fix it either. Can anybody help with this?
I cannot help you.
I cannot help you, you are very smart, but I cannot help you. I am terrible sorry. I would help you if I could.

I am kinda looking for a somewhat better answer than that, but thank you anyway.
Look on the dedicated forum, or the wiki, for your phone. You'll find the various release ROMs. You can flash one of those ROMs to your phone to either put it back on NoDo or upgrade it to Mango directly. This will erase all content on your phone, but since you already tried a hard reset I'm guessing you won't mind.

Help, I lost my 3G connection

I flashed my HTC Trophy back to nodo with a custom rom and everything worked out great. I unlocked it with no problem but when interop unlocking it I lost my 3G and I didn't make a back up. Is there a reg edit or a patch or a hack to get it back?
Wait, why were you "interop-unlocking" a NoDo device? The interop-lock wasn't added until Mango. Do you mean you installed the retail Mango update on top of a custom ROM?
In any case, the two obvious options are to try running AutoDataConfig (I don't know if that works on CDMA phones, but it's just some registry settings to enable it, and then you reboot), or just either hard-reset or re-flash the ROM.

LOL, my fault GoodDay, I forgot to mentioned that I actually updated all the way up to Mango. Had a senior moment there; it was a long day at work today. Sorry.
I'm actually re-flashing now. but it's all good, that's the fun of tinkering with the phone..
If i remember right heathcliff posted a fix for that in the interopt unlock thread.
If someone has the link on how to create a backup \ restore point that would be awesome.

I use this one and it works good. Have used it many times.

When you do your IU on Mango, make sure you follow the VZW Trophy procedure in this thread to keep your 3G (follow it closely!). It is a little different from the norm.
