Does anyone know of a great gps app that will work offline?
I dont have wifi all the time and this would be very useful.
Thanks in advance.

If you mean for mapping then Locus is one of the better ones out there. Has a free version to try out. Plus google maps now has an offline mode which works fairly well.
Sygic and copilot both work. Any app that has you downloading maps should work offline

Thank you both.

I have both CoPilot Live Premium and Navigon Mobile Navigator. I haven't used them much yet but both seem to work pretty well. CoPilot had bigger easy to use buttons it's also less expensive.
Update: tried Navigon last night and got a FC. I believe it has happens before. It did work fine when I tried again. Copilot hasn't,t given me this issue but it sometimes won't see my contacts other times it will.
I've been using GAIA for a while and been very happy with it
Sorry - should've included a link too:
which I can't as a new poster so just google gaiagps!

If you are willing to spend some money you can get Copilot live. They have European maps also. Look it up in the market! I have the US Maps and it seems to work fine.

Give navigon a try, its free for australian users, but if you look through this forum you'll see ways to get it working elsewhere, or you can pay for it in the market.its not pretty but does a good job and full offline mode.

Have you already tried Google Maps? Go into menu-more-labs-download map area and follow the instructions.

..Only downloaded sections, and up to 10 miles per area.
To the OP, Sygic Aura and CoPilot are great.
So download the parts you need. Derp.
If you need to be entirely offline then use copilot live. I use it for work and it is great.

It seems I have no GPS lock when trying to aquire directions. It says there is compass interference, but when I calibrate it, still no lock. Any ideas?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
The compass interference issue is likely related to 3.2, but the GPS should lock. Be sure you are outside when you give it a try. Also, it can take up a few (up to 10) minutes if the GPS has not been used in a while and the ephemeris need to be downloaded.
Ah, I see. Guess I'll try it outside. I just got the tablet yesterday, so it might take a bit.

I highly recommmend GPS Status & Toolbox, which speeds up GPS fix and also can be used to calibrate the compass.

The GPS needs to see the satellites to get a good signal. You need to see three. Get GPS essentials it will show you the details. and yes the compass is different from the GPS.
So, my GPS decided to randomly work. I uninstalled the Google Maps updates, then redownloaded them, and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks guys!

Am I able to use on to use on ATT and Does anyone know where I can get the apk

Isn't that for verizon? So I would say no.
Ok thanks for the reply

Why don't you just use Google maps?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA Premium App
Google maps has had me lost to many times it loses signal or thinks I'm on a different road especially in metro areas I was in Baltimore last week and i was on the correct route the out of nowhere it started to reroute.
ATT nav doesn't do it but its 120/year

ATT nav and VZ Navigator are basically the same based tele-atlas app I believe. I am not a fan of any gps app that has to have data to work. And I know that google maps can cache maps but it is a feature you need to set up ahead of time and when in need is when google maps usually fails.
Why don't you look into sygic or ndrive? Both use downloaded maps and require no data to use. Sygic is only around $24 for USA and they give you a free 7 day trial before buy. Ndrive also gives you a 7 day trial. Not as good as sygic but still a cheap alternative.
Both available on the market. Sygic uses tele atlas maps and ndrive uses navteq maps. Just FYI.
Thanks for the heads up I actually did see sygic in the market I will download and try out
Thanks again

Or activate Google labs and tell Google maps to pre cache your maps, it's a free option and I can attest to the fact that it works.

Can you let me know how you went about doing that

How 'bout Sygic Aura?
Have you ever thought about the Sygic Aura? There are some sites out there that will let you download the .APK file. Install it & then you just need a WiFi connection to download the maps & presto, your all set. It works great for me.
Good luck!
Coming from Sprint I used the TeleNav which was FREE and flawless. On ATT i only see their app and Mapquest. Any free, dependable and has turn by turn GPS apps you could recommend?
Google maps/navigation?

Dude, Google Navigation is built in and probably one of the best GPS's I've ever used.

Waze, should be the best among the GPS apps in the US.
its uses the internet and the Waze Community to get information about traffic , police and such.
I use Google Navigation. By far the best I've used.

And now you can download some maps to use offline
Helpful when you aware of data.

I'd definitely have to agree on Waze. Much more interactive, more customizations along with a beautiful interface.

another vote for Waze. It's like stock navigation made better by other users. If you're even a remotely risky driver, Waze will alert you of cops, road hazards, and better-than-default routes during inclement weather, traffic, or whathaveyou.
I'll say Waze too. Been using it since my HTC Fuze.
I recommend SYGIC, it was useful for me when i didnt have data plan on my phone
Trying out Waze...thanks

Depending on where i'm going I use Google navigation or waze. Google seems to be more updated so if I'm going somewhere kind of "out there" I use that but if if it's a fairly common place I'll use waze
