How do I remap keys on the physical keyboard?
VoiceInput --> ALT
Emoticon --> ???
/tl;dr
Is there a way I could make the Voice Input key on the keyboard another Alt key? I never use voice input, but I find myself using exclamation points a lot. [I get excited about things. Don't judge me!] So I was wondering if we could remap keys like that. And since the Emoticon button only works in stock Messaging, that'd be a good one to replace, too, for those of us who are on other SMS apps.
EDIT: It seems I'd forgotten about this thread. The instructions work for remapping keys. I made VoiceInput another Alt, and I put VoiceInput on the Emoticon key.

Hello people here.
I want to use the home/back buttons for different purposes, that they are designed for. I am using AEBPlus software. With this software I am able to map much more functions on these buttons, but the problem is,these buttons are doing designed functions(home/back) also after mapping even they are unbinded from the system and handled by AEBPlus,so one click means 1click function and home/back at the same time. Anybody knows, how to disable default functionalities?
Thanks for help.
I have AE Buttons to ramap PTT with a long press to activate voice command. I use a 1 press to bring down the Start menu. But it also remaps the "Home" key to do the same. They seem to be locked together. Any thoughts. The descriptions of the buttons in AE doesn't do them justice. Can't tell what is what.
my PTT and Home button are mapped as the same for some reason.
when i use AEBPlus, i can do 1-3 clicks on the PTT, but i cant do the PTT Hold for some reason. any ideas?
topic says everything.
Just want to know how to map buttons.
cheers
why not use the Buttons app to remap the buttons? Start->Settings->Buttons.

It is very limited, only 4 buttons. You can not remap with it roller buttons - up, down, left, right and middle.
You can use Vito ButtonMapper
http://vitotechnology.com/products/buttonmapper.html
or
AE Button+
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Sorry, I saw to late that you want to map the buttons through registry. I will dig into the registry to find the keys
I've got an XDA Ignito (Touch Diamond), and it only shows one button (voice speed dial) in the buttons app.
When looking in the registry there is only the key: 40C6, which is the Voice Speed dial, but no other keys.
Is it possible to add a key, and map it to a hardware button, maybe the ones above the phone keys, without using other software like AE Button +?
I have already tried with the keys 40C1-10 and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any replies!
Edit: sorry I just noticed this is in the Polaris forum (was searching for mapping buttons and didnt notice!)
hi,
is there a way to remap the two hard keys home and back, without using aeb, because AEB interfers with the keys FN plus è,é ç,à on the hard azerty keyboard.
Thanks
You can look at changing the registry, the following worked for the Kaiser:

It may not be the same key but its a start in the right direction if you don't want to install an app.
I am looking to remap the <- key to be the "OK" button in WM. I don't use this key, and for the life of me can't think of a reason to, so it seems more intuitive to have it be the TPs "missing" button. TIA

Well, I'll start by saying there are several posts about the remap of buttons on xda. You should try searching first.
Anyhow, try AEBPlus and find those other posts which explain in detail how to remap (mostly the PTT button).. Good luck
tried searching but most info was for other devices, so I thought I would post here. I will give AEBPlus a shot. Thanks!

Unfortunately it appears (both from searching and from trying) that AE button does not work for the Home and Back keys on the TP.
I'm using it, wish they would update it to support the TP better. However, when mapping a new key, you have to hold the button down. this will show u the key code for that key, but it is only for long press. So this may be a partial fix. Otherwise, I'm not sure how to map the main function of that button. Maybe it's like the PTT and their is a file that is assigned to that key like the PTT_short.lnk ? Anyway good luck...hopefully someone will map these keys out or AEBPlus will update since the last update was in May 08...
What exactly are you trying to accomplish by mapping the back key to be "ok"? It essentially functions the same way, closing whatever window you're in and taking you ot the prior one.
I am looking for the ok/close feature I had on my i730. Using the back button allows the app I am leaving to continue to run instead of closing the program.

Why don't you just map the PTT to close? I presume you know how to remap the PTT button and here is a way to map it to 'close': http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1249
I have no PTT button
CDMA
is this possible with android? in windows one way to do this is an application that intercepts signals from the keyboard and sends out what the user remapped the key to. i have no idea if the mapping for the keyboard is done in the firmware or something. i know physical buttons being remappable in custom roms, would this be the same case?
what i would like is to remap the search key into the multitasking button (recent apps)
