Battery Percentage Giving Wrong Stats? - HTC Sensation

Last night I left the house with about 40% left on my battery. By the time I went home, my Sensation was completely drained. This was within 3 hours, which should not drain it to 0%, especially since it was asleep most of the time.
When I got home and I plugged it in, I booted it up and surprisingly, it booted up with 42%. Before plugging in it had no power left, and the phone wouldn't boot at all. I wiped my battery stats yesterday morning too, after charging it to 100% for a few hours.
Seems like my battery stats are VERY wrong right now, and I just wiped it again after charging it to 100% and leaving it there for a while. Does anyone else have this problem? I know some people are having random stats popping up here and there, but this still had 30% juice left before it just died out. Never happened before. I was able to nearly fully drain it just 3 days ago too (100-5%).

Charge to full, wipe again, and drain to about 5%. Charge full and repeat. It usually takes a few cycles to correct battery stats.

I'd also recommend this application from the market for battery calibration, although you need root.

Alright, thanks, I'll try that. Hopefully it gives me an accurate reading

battery calibration

For my HTC Hero, people on the boards recommended wiping battery stats and fully draining the battery for a couple of cycles.
Is it recommended for the Gtab as well? Are you able to wipe battery stats on this thing?

If you flash clockworkmod you can wipe battery stats.
What exactly does wiping battery stats do? My gtab never charges past 97%. Would this re-calibrate it so that full charge showed 100%?
It's not even a minor annoyance so I'm not intetrested in anything requiring me to drain completely but if this is a simple fix I would give it a go.
I have the same problem...battery won't charge past 96%. I've charged it overnight and wiped battery stats with no success. Any ideas how to fix this??
Vegan 5.1.1
Same issue here, sadly. First time charging, it got up to 100%. After that now though, it stops charging at 98%. No amount of bump charging, battery stat wiping, draining battery, etc, has seemed to work.
It charges to 100% when using it while plugged in. I mean if it matters to you to see the big 100 once in a while ;-)
Not for me, lol. Meh, not a HUGE deal, but kind of a bummer.
Mine has the same issue. Charged overnight while powered on and while powered off and the highest the battery meter reads is 98%. I have attempted to wipe the battery stats, completely drain the battery, and wipe user data- all to no avail. While slightly irritating, it really seems as if the battery is functioning normally and the breakdown is simply the calibration of the software. I am easily getting 6-8 hours depending on usage.
Mine did that as well in the beginning, but after a bunch of good charge discharge cycles charges to 100%.

losing about 5-10% battery on reboot

so why exactly am i losing battery life on a reboot. its happening on every rom ive used so far.
I think its because your battery is not properly calibrated with the rom. Are you bump charging each new rom you put on and wiping the battery stats?
This happens to me. I am stock currently, but I have been through two phones and they both lost 5 - 10% on reboot.
It's normal for the phone, it takes a bit to "power" up the phone. Don't stress out that much over it. The battery % isn't 100% accurate anyway.
I'm losing ~10% on each reboot too. Its definitely not just from the reboot and I don't think its accurate. Yesterday, as an example, I was at 43%, rebooted and came up at 32%. Then my phone sat 32% forever, just flat lined in the battery stats for hours. It finally started reasonably dropping again hours and hours later as if the battery level had finally caught up with what was being reported.
Have you ever bump charged and battery wipe stats before?
Cuz mmy battery doesn't drop like that.
I don't think I lose a full 10%, but I definitely notice a significant, if not excessive battery drop when rebooting. It seems unlikely that the battery could have discharged that much, so it's probably a reporting issue. Not something that really bothers me, but just pointing out that I noticed it as well.

This was similar to what I experience. More evidence that it is a mostly harmless reporting error. The reporting "corrects" itself once the phone is booted. Interesting behavior, but harmless.
Download Battery Calibration from the Market.

Your battery gague isn't telling you the truth.
I don't even get a 100% charge. It sits at 97 for like 3 hours and then drops. Reboot usually only takes <5 for me though. I'm thinking ROM issue.

This really explains why you drop rapidly after unplugging your pone from charging to "100%". I believe the OP is referring to a step function-like decrease in battery level between reboots. That is what I'm referring to anyways. That link does have some interesting info though.
I've been having the same issue. Reboot sometimes drops the battery by 5%, and the battery gauge seems to get stuck after that. I've also noticed that sometimes if I reboot while it's charging, the % will jump something ridiculous like 20%. Just now, it was at 45% while charging, I rebooted, and now it's at 57%.
This has been happening on both BAMF and CM7, though I've always been using Imoseyon's kernels.
Same problem here. Bump charge and battery stat wipe is the fix but it's definitely a pain. Especially, since I am flashing a new rom everyday.
to bump charge does my phone have to be off or when it reaches 100 unplug and plug a few times? will that do. i hate having to shut the phone off especially for a number of hours.
Bump charge> charge the phone on till light turns green. > turn phone off> charge phone until light turns green> unplug and reconnect several times> boot into recovery> wipe battery stats. > done. Use the phone all day and let it die on that charge. Then charge over night turned on. And you are now calibrated.

because rebooting entails the re-starting of operating system, services, background apps, internet connectivity, and initial data sync. it's just the nature of restarting an operating system.

I think the question was meant to be something like, "why do I lose 5-10% of my battery after a reboot?" Of course rebooting using a little power, but that's not the issue here.

Because the battery gauge isn't reading it right. Solution. Bump charge and battery wipe stats.

[Q] Quirky Battery Stats?

Okay, so each time I reboot my phone, my battery capacity increases dramatically! At one point, I got the notice to put the phone on the charger, and after a reboot, I was back to some 25%? Just now I was at 40%, a reboot now brings it to 56%!
What exactly is up? I charged my phone till it said 100%, then used an app called battery calibration to remove the battery stats file, and then let the phone drain till it shut off. (I couldnt reboot it). I put it on the charger, and let it charge back to 100%. I am confused?!?! This is, by the way, a chichitec 1900mA/Hr battery which has lasted me about 16 hours so far today with pretty moderate use! LOTS of web surfing, internet, and about an hour of phone calls. Its at 50% (or whatever it really is). I know its a great battery, but I hate thinking there is such an oddity about it.
Should I charge back to 100%, then wipe that stats, this time with CWM?
Matt
this is exactly what i was talking to you about yesterday in my "charging times" thread.. seems lots of people are having this issue...is your phone brand new? could just not be calibrated yet

New battery, new ROM, it takes a couple of charging cycling for these things to get working properly....give it time after the initial calibration.
and its not a problem that the phone won't switch om after discharge, it just shows that your battery was completely empty....plug in charger and wait for LED to light!
Quick question,
Is the Battery Calibration (CWM wipe at 100%) a phone, battery or ROM calibration ? I know you need to go through a few cycles after calibrating.
I have done it and since changed ROMs a few times so just wondered. Phone is only a week old so far.

I think I messed up my battery

So, I wanted to calibrate my battery today, and so I charged it to 100%, turned it off and charged it to 100% again, then booted into cwr, wiped battery stats, restarted my phone. After a couple minutes I remembered to unplug my charger.
About an hour later off the charger, my phone went from about 70% battery to 0% and shut off automatically. I knew there was no way I actually ran it down all the way that fast, so I rebooted, and it showed it was at 4%. A couple minutes later it jumped up to 15%, and has been jumping back and forth for the past few hours.
I think I messed up the battery stats by keeping the phone on the charger after wiping the stats. How do I go about fixing it?
The only thing I can think of at the moment is running my phone until it actually dies, then charging to 100% while off, then wiping stats while actually unplugged. Will this work? Or, is there another solution?

Im just guessing but maybe wipe cache along with the battery stats and try to re calibrate from there. Did the battery get really hot, like over heat?
I would just cycle it complete and see what happens. I've had some screwy numbers show up during a calibration before. I wish I'd taken a screenshot of the time it dropped to 50%, fell instantly to 25%, then slowly rose to about 42% before it started falling again. It was freaky. Once the full cycle was done, it didn't do it again.

[Q] Problem with battery in charge

I just get my phone after a repair and I see a battery problem: when my phone is charging, about 82%, growth stops. If I shuts down my phone and I back on, it displays 100%.
does anyone know why and what to do about it ?
Thanks
Happened to me once, it was charging rather long than usually, stucked at around 80%, rebooted and it showed 100%. And it depleted normally.
Another time was after flashing a new rom, there was an issue so i rebooted while charging at around 80% as well, rebooted and it showed 100%, but it depleted rather fast from 100% to 90% so i knew it didnt "fully" charge. but charge it the next day and it was back to normal.
So imo it shouldnt be an issue. but hows your battery life?? does it depletes rather fast? U can try calibrating it with battery calibrater which can be downloaded from market. But i read that ds phones calibrates itself after each charge. so no worries there.
Happened to me as well
I avoid rebooting now (unless absolutely necessary) to see that happen again. Ignorance is bliss
I think it may be the battery starting to wear off ??

I have the same issue,
I wipe battery stats in recovery and now it's no problem
Thank you for your answers.
Maybe my batery begins to die but i will try to wipe the battery stats and i will see.:good:
