SD (not micro SD) Card doesn't get mounted after disconnected and reconnect to dock - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hardware: Both TF and Dock are B6O on 3.2 stock
Ok anybody run into this issue?
Disconnect Tab from dock and reconnect it after a minute back. At this point you should see on the bottom a prompt what said " Preparing External storage". Well not in my case! When i go to settings and check under storage the card is showing w/ 0 GB and the only option is to un-mounted / If you do so it prompted up w/ the message: " SD card fault occured". I have to shut down and reboot to re access the SD card. As well when i unmount the card, remove it and re-insert it dosn't do a scan. (I tried 7 different SD cards on the TF dock, and yes they all work on my PC!!!). Does anybody has that kind of issue with the SD card dock slot?

Try unmounting the card before disconnecting TF from dock.

I am pretty sure there is bug with mounting the SD card on the dock. The SD card is mounted and unmounted also when the tablet goes into sleep. I have found this process can completely lock up the tablet to the point where a reboot is needed.
Edit: By locking up I mean the tablet will no longer go into deep sleep.

Every now and then my 32 GB SD card just disappears. I just remount. It has happened less than 5 times...

Hmm had this issue before, but somehow after rooting and using custom roms, its not an issue

Well
You You shouldnt have to unmount the SD card all the time you disconnect the TF. You sent your TF to sleep it disconnect the SD in the keyboard, or just close the lid and reopen it, it will performed a scan of the SD card. In my case it does it sporadically butr if i disconnect from dock its like its connected half way not accessible but you see it under settings as explained above.

Thats exactly what happened. not even removal and re-insert of SD card makes the Volume accessible. Only the reboot does.

Today I tried a micro SD card in an adapter inside the dock. So far it has not created the problem. It could have something to do with SD card or the data on the card. I will test tonight to see if the Transformer does not lock up over night with the micro SD card in the dock.

That would be great! Let us know the outcome. What i said i tried a bunch of cards so the situation of a faulty SD card is cut out for sure. As well supply us w/ the first 3 digits of your dock please.

Enough Proof!!!
OK i lost alot of power to last night and i got this. On those 2 pix you see my TF disconnected from dock. dock is laying next to it but its still shows 2 SD cards are mounted in the TF task bar????????
Inductive mounting!!!!!!! Didnt know that the TF had that feature. LOL

is cwm installed?
in the recovery-mode is an option mount/unmount for several devices.
perhaps changing some of them may help.
two memory sticks in the dock and one sd and one micro-sd in the tab,
there may be four sings at all. every memory is able to make somthing
wrong. perhaps it´s possible to show a sign if a memory is not inserted!

I removed the SD card last night and everything was good, 2% lost on the tablet no drain on the dock. Are we really the only people having this problem? This is my second dock from Best Buy, I would like to know more before I get a third.

Dock Shipped back to Texas
I sent it back and talked again to the Asus Rep. They aware of the issue and got replacement parts for the epic fail construction. I made him aware of the sd card reader issue and made a note in the shipping box to that they will see my dock back in case of no fix

Did you send off for repair? Did they fix it? I have the same issue with the SD Card not mounting and only being able to fix by rebooting. If I am reading your post correctly you were experiencing some battery drain as well? Fixed as well?

Sorry didn't saw the post. I received the dock back. They fixed the draw but i guess the did't took care of the SD card reader issue. But i got a idea. I've noticed as well when the SD card symbole disappears and you dont see by opening or turning your TF on. Normaly it does the preparring SD card check. Well when that's not appears your SD connection is not present but here your homework. Next time it happened to you. dont turn the device off. Take several USB devices like a USB flash drive a MP3 player or your smart phone and connect it to one of the USB ports on the dock. Let me know what happened. (( I repeat, test that when you got the bug to show up and your SD card is in the dock but not accesable).

perfectly good pictures are now grey with exclamation mark

Has this happened to anyone else? I have few pictures on my sdcard that used to show up in thumbnail views where i can select them, now some of them are greyed out with an esclamation mark. Does this mean its time for a new sdcard? By the way does a faster sdcar mean faster phone performance? Because i have a 2gb kingston, im thinking of going up to 4gb class 4 PNY brand. Suggestions devs?
i had this happen, IIRC, i had to hard reset........
but before u do that..........
try putting the pics and anything else you want to save on the computer so u dont loose them. then reformat your card. soft reset your phone, then transfer everything back.
that should work, but if it doesnt , hard reset would probably be the next step
Ok thanks man, ill try that. I have noticed that some of the photos when i pull them off the sdcard, they are corrupt also. Do you think a better sd card would help?
I had this happen to me as well. It would be fine for awhile, then do that and when I went into ca,era app it would say no sd card inserted. I'd restart and it would be fine and pics would show for about 10min then it would do it again. I plugged my phone into the computer and and mounted it. Then a screen popped up and said some of the files on the disk were corrupt and if I would like to try to repair so I said yes. It fixed it and it really hasn't happened since (maybe once, but restarted and been fine since). I'm running an 8gb card with root.

SD card dismounting on its own?

I just got my Inspire in the mail today and have been using it for about 5 hours. The phone has "lost" the sd card twice since then. I'll be using it and all of the sudden an error message will appear saying "can not read sd card, please dismount before ejecting" I then have to take the bottom part off and eject the card and put it back in and let the phone find it again. Anyone else run into this?
Yes, I've had this happen to me a few times already.
Me too... for the record, Im using a sandisk 16gb
Mine was doing this too. I took it back and swapped it and haven't had a problem since
No problem here with my 32GB.

Really think it's dead.. ayudame!

So after playing around with ROM manager and getting the new CW recovery to work, I think I legitimately bricked my poor Xoom wifi.
Here's where we are now.
Power button doesn't work. Hard reset doesn't work. Getting to RSD/Fastboot doesn't work. USB connection isn't recognized (windows/linux). No lights work. A/C charger doesn't appear to work. Nothing happens at any direction.
So far, there is zero indication that the device is even powering at all. Yes, it's charged. Just a giant, solid black screen that is mocking me. :[
The last thing I did was partition the SD card. (trying to install new Tia kernel). Rebooted, worked fine. Powered down. Now it won't respond to anything.
Think I'm going to go sacrifice a virgin and see if that helps.
Thoughts? Or should I just go back to Best Buy and beg?
Sorry if this is all over the place. Having one of those "holy $ I have a $600 paperweight!" moments. Heh.
****
THE CHARGING LIGHT WORKS!.. when connected to A/C now. Nothing else does.. but that one light works.. progress is progress..
Hope you're still within your return period. My understanding is the Xooms internal storage is labeled as sdcard and the actual sdcard is sdcard2. So by "formatting the sdcard" you essentially formatted the Xooms 32GB internal memory.
[email protected]$
I partitioned a 4M chunk of it to put the recovery image on it. So.. would that explain it being completely nonresponsive? The only thing I got out of it today is that the charging light was white and then green when it was fully charged. Otherwise nothing works I am within my return period but I'm traveling...until my return period is up. Boy, this is just a bad situation, is it not? Haha
That would explain it being non-responsive.
Anything that can be done? Or do I have to start playing phone and shipping tag with Motorola at this point?
And if I do send it to motorola and they get the OS back on there.. how would they do it?
First off: did you partition the internal storage or are you running Tiamat with sdcard support?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
In the recover module, I went to partition SD card, then partitioned it to 4MB. (The image is 3 and change). Whether or not it was internal or external, I couldn't tell you. I don't have an external SD card. So yes, I made a rookie mistake on that one.
I'm glad I wrote this down: Another thing, when I had it hooked up via USB and mounted the USB storage in recovery, a prompt came up in windows saying "you need to format this drive in order to use it." so.. I copied the /sdcard/ contents (cause that's what I thought it was talking about) to my PC and formatted it. I could only format it to 3MB. That's what led me to trying to partition the SD card so I could put the recovery image on whatever drive was there.
Yeah.. the more I think about this the more of a rookie mistake it was. I'm sure I formatted something that had critical operating system files on it and that's why I can't even get the thing to boot. A:LKFJ;-

[Q] MicroSD Hot Swap?

My TF doesn't recognize microsd cards that are inserted when it is powered on, even if the previous card was correctly unmounted first. I have to restart the TF, then it will recognize the card.
I have the latest FW from the Asus site.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Anyone? I'm starting to wonder if my TF is defective.
I do not have this issue. I swapped a couple of microSD cards and it would read both, detect when one is inserted and taken out.
Have you tried updating the firmware to see if that resolves the issue?
It's not defective. It's Asus' workaround so that we even have a working microsd slot, until honeycomb gets the official update. So for now you will have to restart each time to get it recognised, if you have this problem. It probably depends on the type of card you have too.
I've had it not recognize my microsd card a couple times. Though all I had to do was wait a few seconds before popping it back in and it read it fine after the 2nd or 3rd try.
It make take reformatting the card. I had this issue until I reformatted the card.

Seen the same.
I've seen this behavior on my TF also. Sometimes I just wait a little bit before i try to put it back in. I've also noticed that if i took the card out and then proceeded to transfer huge amounts of files, when i put it back in the card will mount properly. I suspect this has something to do with the tablet going completely in to sleep and resetting the card state hence becoming responsive to card insertion after a an extended amount of time.
