Hi guys, i have a problem, i´m realy happy with my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, but now i see the new BlackBerry Torch and i like it, but what is better? An Android device or "RIM?" Device like BlackBerry?
I need my Phone only for Emails, Internet and Music, is for my interessts Android or RIM better?
Sorry for my bad english, i understand it better as i speak ^^
Definitly Android is the best experience
Of course Choose Android!!!!
It's more open and free, have a lot of Program and ROM that you can choose for.
I refuse to reply..this question must be a joke.
What's a BlackBerry?
android for sure . my friend torch is slow and unresponsive . not many application also .
they both can do all of those things. it all depends on how you want them done. with android, pretty much everything is customizable (speed, looks, etc)
Wait wait...blackberry's app store just added its 56th app. Go with the torch.
If u where in front f me n had asked this question ,
1. I wud have killed u OR
2. I wud have killed myself

Coming from someone who has owned two blackberry's over the past 4 years, then switching to android, android makes blackberry look like prehistoric garbage. Ill never ever choose a blackberry again, and I recommend you choose android hands down.

Android 1000%
My gf has the torch and shes jealous of all the crap we can do on our fones!!! She wishes she can customizable everything...
i neveer try a blackberry, sorry for this question ^^ but it looks interesting, thats the reason for my question.
ok dont take a blackberry i wait to december and buy the new Asus Fonpad
thanks for all answers.
My choose Android!!!
Android for sure....dont invest in an outdated piece of tech....I was a BB user for years...got the OG Droid when it came out and never looked back...
Android is right now the best choice, you have a large number of great apps and custom ROMs. BlackBerry is more for corporations and firms (from what I know BB devices have special data packs from carriers). You will get bored in time with a BB, you will not with an Android device.
Android Forever
Android is the way to go, Blackberry has been slipping for the past year or two. Blackberry's are now for those like my father, people who don't care to much about the features of a phone
Motorola Atrix: Overclocked @ 1.2ghz - ROM: CM7 pre-beta 3
HP Touchpad: Overclocked @ 1.9ghz - ROM: Stock WebOS 3.0.2
Palm Pixie Plus: Overclocked @ 833mhz - ROM: Stock WebOS 1.4.5
Samsung Captivate: Clocked @ 1ghz - ROM: Stock
Android Ofc.
Rooted.
Android is even better than iOS
Umm...
Android, even if you're running 1.5 it's still better than Blackberry's latest OS... Linux is the ****...

well..changing new phone soon~ and these r two giant monsters which i kept my eyes on it.
hd2, winmo 6.5, big screen, terrific snapdragon, and bla bla bla. well, i'm a diamond user so i've already getting used to WinMo. it attracts me because of its fabulous 4.3 screen and its processor. well, rumor says it can be upgraded to winmo 7 though.
droid, android 2.0, 16M colours and 3.7 screen, a lil higher resoloution compare with hd2 but lost in the side of inches, 0.6'. and heard that it's using a so called newer technology processor, Cortex A8. 550Mhz processor but the speed is almost same with the iphone. One big holding back is the Android which i'm not familiar at all. oh ya, the crystal talk attracts me too.
So, can somebody tell me the good and the bad between this two? XD kinda in dilemma though.
share ur information and comments here!
----------------------------------------
well guys, added another ANDROID phone in between choices now~
the NEXUS ONE. well, kinda appealing to me..=)
really kinda bored with WinMo as HD2 is using wm6.5 which i'm using now in diamond too. the only attractive thing is the super duper big screen, while going off to android, i'm a little skeptical as i really never ever hold an android-based phone.
ok~ sony Erricson X10~ another rumor-said amazing android phone~ a very high resolution-screened phone and high megapixel. but, wonder it can be upgrade to eclair or not...
hard choices..>.<
regards,
billy.
Stay with HTC!!
I would choose Leo or Rhodium
this two articles about the Motorola Milestone (Droid) might help you in your decision:
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2009/12/review-motorola-milestone-droid-android-2-0/
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2009/12/review-motorola-milestone-droid-hardware-impressions/
I have written both reviews, and especially the android 2.0 review should give you a good impression of what android offers on the Motorola Droid.
I wa using windows mobile devices since the mda magician, and switched to android (htc hero - i wrote a 5 part review series about the switch to android: http://smartphoneblogging.com/tag/htc-hero/) and didn't regret it. Android is really a great os, and if you get an htc android device you have xda devs support too, so you could also consider getting an htc hero or wait for the nextgen htc devices. I wouldn't get an HD2 at this point, because wm just isn't competitive the way it is right now, and nobody knows if wm7 will change anything.
I'm sure the Android OS is great but I believe it's some what restricting in allowing the user to go above and beyond the typical customizing.
If both are supported by xda, then that variable can be excluded.
But the variable that has everyone curious is the fact that WM7 is coming and the HD2 is in the lineup of devices that get a free upgrade to what might some are anticipating is Microsoft last chance in keeping there 8% market shares alive.
This might be an apple and oranges like comparison which typically means one of two things:
1) very easy choice
2) very hard choice
I would go to the HD2 world of things. Keep in mind with the fact that this device being fresh on the market simply means patience is needed before everything gets ironed out by the fantastic chefs here in this xda community.
Good Luck with it all.....
Lot could depend on your carrier & location. Even if you buy unlocked, it may not have 3G like the HD2 in the States right now...
I'm crossing over to the Nexus ONE!

Would you consider adding the X10 to this list?
I am considering all the above phones too, but my preferance for now is the X10.
It would save me starting what would basically be a replica of your post......
could anyone layout in terms of usage as well? i'm an engineer who basically deals with attachments from email (ms excel, word, powerpoint, pdf, etc) - maybe a bit of editing would be a plus =)
HD2 looks nice with the big screen + integration with microsoft, kinda lean me over to it but supposedly there must be 3rd party apps that can go with android, is there? how bout iphone?
love the part on phone tweaking too...so, any suggestion guys?
thanks!
-phone noob-
sneasel.. depends on wat u need actually.. n i dont really know whether android has those 3rd party or not as i'm winmoer XD but seems like hd2 suits u though.. =)
yup!
...and im officially a HD2 user! ;D
Dont go for any wm devices
look man ill put it straight. windows mobile have no sense of ownership of there own brand. They are lazy bunch of ppl out to make profits out of ****ty operating systems. I would recommend you to go with android operated systems cuz they are so much better, refined and have a sense of ownership not of what they create n you can see that on how well there operating systems look and operate. PERIOD
HTC systems are great but they are a waste when they're with windows mobile.
hurmm...from the looks of it, you are quite right, htc do have a great system...on android, i've never used one, so dont know anything bout it...since i got HD2 on my hand, hoping cud put in android to try em...
well...is like they say, what suits one, that will be the best~
hello friends, i have been using WP7 for almost 7months... now i kind of regret for having chosen WP7, bcuz of lack of apps n customization... i just saw my friends Android and it was so damn cool... the app selection is the best n apps have control over the phones vitaal functions like messaging ( u can replace native inbox) , start screen n so on...
now what i wanted to know is any user here who has used Android n WP7, i request your suggestion; is Android really good or though there are many apps is it not stable ?? which do u feel is better ??
You can use the search button and read through all the existing threads. Otherwise all people will do is repeat what they said before and within a day there will be huge arguments. Seriously, use the search button.

Everything is a mistake if you don't research before you buy. Like buying a 2 door porshe when you have 4 kids . Hope you learned your lesson.
I dont even think about Android anymore now that i have mango, super sleek!
Yep. Android is cool. It has all those cool stuffs. Sold my hd7 cause i need a phone that can do wifi tethering and android phones are the only phone i know that can do it right. The only thing cool about wp7 are the smooth UI but it kinda gets boring...

Apps will become less and less a problem
A ton of new HQ apps have been released:
- IM plus (expect it to be mastered once Mango gets officially released)
- FB (now supports push)
- Vevo (!)
- AccuWeather
- Kik
With Mango:
- Spotify
- Skype
(hopefully whatsapp as well, they have the API's they need now)
plus all the other stuff like multitasking all works really great and the ease of use and productivity will increase significantly.
What more does one need, now we can also have unlimited sideload apps on Mango. Its worth the wait, it will only get better once nokia will release its mapping apps and stuff.
Some of the apps can be replaced on android because the native ones are crap, with wp7 you can ask yourself do you really need other apps or do the native ones just do their job fine.
You can install Mango and give it a go... if you still dont like it, restore back to NoDo and you will still have your warranty.
In my experience Android can get laggy, drain battery and be a bit unstable at times with apps crashing.
WP7 on the other hand is smooth and easy to use.
I don't miss any apps from Android but you may have different needs.
Get Mango on it, you'll soon change your mind.
WP7 is in it's infancy so of course it isn't going to have as much as android or ios, but it is growing.

Yeah once Mango gets here he should be mostly satisfied with WP7 (since push notifications will actually work and the internet browser will actually be useable)
Also, all the "cool" stuff you're seeing on Android... It has no use. Is changing the SMS interface really necessary if the Messaging hub already works really well? It's fun to screw around with that stuff, but that's all it really is.
WP7 is how a true 'smart' phone should be. Quick, slick and beautiful in it's own way.
If you want customisation... buy an Android phone. But Android is laggy and bloated. Yeah you can change almost anything, but it feels as if the device is 'fragmented'.
WP7 has a smooth togetherness which I love.
Thumbs up MS. Keep up the good work. Mango beta is far from perfect, but MS seems to be listening to it's users!!!!
This is a loaded question...
However...
Once one decides if the limitations that the OS have make it difficult for you do the things you NEED to do it's a pretty easy decision.
Mango does indeed take the things that WP7 did and make it even better. There's not a lot of change in the deep OS strategy though. WP7 is about content and not computing.
You cannot customize it to your hearts content because the UI is built on a standing principle on UX.
Android = computer emulation
WP7 = Mobile empowerer
You can do a whole lot more on Android and it will probably stay that way as Android continues to push the limits. WP7 is more polished, more refined, more dedicated to its useful purpose. It is also much more locked down. Android is more green fields, do anything you want and how you want and with that strategy comes good at everything, master of none.
Excellent analogy. Very well put.

Great reply!
I avoided Android because of these opinions but honestly right now it is quite refined too.
It is somewhat true WP7 is having better workflow that other OSes but for me lack of features and quite boring UI after some time disappointed me.
As it was written here so many times, WP7 does it's job in some areas in elegant way.
However Mango may be the first finished and more refined version of the OS. Currently it's quite poor IMO. And quite illogical to be honest.
If I would be someone to give advice, I'd say wait till the end of the year and drop it now unless you're a dedicated MS enthusiast.
As for the above analogy - I prefer computer emulation than.
I had an omnia 7 for 6 months and now have a desire Hd. I loved the omnia and windows phone 7 for a couple of months, but I became tired of waiting for the "march" update and brought a dell streak, which within a week the screen and glass broke So got the desire HD. I have to admit I'm loving putting custom roms on this, but looking at the vids and pictures and demos of the mango update; I'm seriously considering buying one of the new set of devices, mango loaded of course. Looking at the rumours of a 16mp 4.7inch 1.5ghz HTC wp7 device, that may draw me in Wp7 is so refined and i have tried out the ie9 browser in mango and it is seriously at least twice as fast as any android browser I've used, and 5 times faster than the crappy safari browser on my ipod touch.

Swipe!, The lovely calendar!, TRUE MULTITASKING, Really Apps that you can use to work (NOT MILLION APP OF FLASHLIGHTS!).
And WebOS is a lot powerful it doesn't use everything on the phone. For example I installed Ubuntu on my Pre with 1.00 Ghz (Not dual Core) and my Atrix 1.45 Ghz (Dual Core) and my Pre runs a lot better.
Now that WebOS is open source but not already all the files I will not have doubt or even think twice about install WebOS on my Android phone.
This is just my point of view.
*I like ICS but it lacks yet of a lot of features that I was waiting for...but I still like it *

Funny question and answers.
I was talking to a friend 2 days ago, iOS developer... big Linux and Mac fan who preached to the 7 corners of the Universe that iOS was the way and that Windows was hell. He was then forced into Microsoft stuff because MS just created a partnership with his college and basically took over every IT division. Guess what? He's a MS technology convert. iOS now sucks and WP7 is the way... it took several months, several coding and MS visits, but he's a convert.
Conclusion: Most people have no clue what they're talking about when bashing on other technologies / Mobile OS's.
I can't talk about Symbian 'cause that one I haven't used but, out of every other mobile OS, WebOS is to me - with WP7 mango close behind - the best Mobile OS there is. iOS and Android have all caught up since Palm introduced it and it's sad the Pre was such a horrible hardware.. but for example, I have yet to find an e-mail app that compares just a bit to the native webOS email client. I have tried ALL of them... ALL, like every single one of them on my EVO (for almost 2 years now) and NONE compares or are capable of handling messages like webOS do. That is only one feature.
What's wrong about webOS for the general public? The lack of the thousand flashlight apps available. You'd be a fool, otherwise, not to try it...
And yes, I am a proud HTC EVO 4G user who still don't understand why Google with all the money in the world and engineers; and its proud developers can't do complex things pretty, easy and efficient as Palm managed to do in webOS; with almost $0 cash.
Just make sure everything works and that your favorite app is available in webOS
before jumping ship. Otherwise you'll be blaming webOS and not the developer who didn't ported said app.
I've used both operating systems. webos is true multitasking, making it is easier to jump between open programs. You can even group open windows/programs together in stacks if you want.
With HP releasing open source WebOS, it will be more universal than Andriod.
Wow, I love opinions . I have only used ios and android, so as stated above I will not bash what I haven't experienced. My only fear is that web OS won't have all the games/apps I want. It sounds like webOS is a multitasker's best friend however. And I agree. It blows my mind that with MILLIONS of developers android has, many being on XDA, we (because I am trying to learn developing also) can't perfect the OS. But yeah, I won't convert until ik that my favorite apps/games are available on web. Sounds amazing nonetheless though.!

I love Webos
The multitask on webos is awsome, Android multitask has nothing to with that, even the Ice Cream Sandwich multitask is not as goood as the webos one and the notification is also awsome on webos, i miss these on my Galaxy S.
You had to have actually used WebOS for a few days to understand its beauty (I had Pre 1 & 2).
You can toggle radio, Bluetooth, screen, flashlight directly from the pull down menu, which is always available. Frequently used apps (the bottom route odd home screen) can be brought up from any app/screen by dragging your finger up, instead of having to press home, then select (of course, you can do that too).
True multitasking, live background app previews (apps update their screens in the background; notice ICS background apps like music have old screen shots). 2 motions to close current app and choose another open app (ICS needs 5!), 1 sideways swipe to toggle between previous and next apps (2 taps on ICS, and I frequently select the wrong one of the last two),
WebOS internals made finding, installing, and updating hacks & kennels a no brainer (CWM is brain surgery on comparison). The list goes on.
The interface and interaction were just very smooth & efficient. It just seems like everything takes longer to accomplish on Android. I'm pretty happy with my Galaxy Nexus, but a merge of WebOS and Android would be the dream phone OS.

Palm is the grand daddy of the current smartphones IMO. Palm OS was a great OS with amnny apps (favorite was the player that let me open mkv videos).. WebOS is great follow up to it but was overtaken by android. To me webos is a polished easy(I mean real easy OS) to use it feels like something meant for a phone where as android is so complicated in comparison that half the people that have it don't even know its pontential and simply use it as a regulaar phone. Its sad to seea how webos has gone down it would have been an OS any one could usand not need a be a surngent to understand
Used android for years, rooted, latest roms, etc. Even swapped out radio image files. Got my touchpad after the firewall, and love webOS. As has been pointed out, everything is easier, love the multitasking.
Currently getting ready to triple boot with Ubuntu and Android simply because I need access to some very specific apps. Outside of those apps, I will still be using webOS as my daily. Still a cleaner and faster OS.
Sent from my very "non-stock" TP.
I have a Touchpad with cm9 ics and webOS for the original boot. I think webOS is smooth and fast. It's enjoyable to run it after being on android for so long.
Plus android cm9 ics has no front facing camera. So I jump into webOS to use Skype.
Best of both worlds.

android is getting better and better...
I also have a HP TP with CM9 now... the android versions getting better and better with every (nightly) version, but the main performance issues are too heavy. e.g. there is no dual core support, the 3D engine doesnt work at its possibilities and, maybe not as important as the over issues, the camera.
the really good thing on webOS is the awesome multitasking feature! webos also ist veery smooth an fast...very sad that there isnt (yet) a big community workin on it (but soucre seems to be published so..)
i work on both systems. but android is my main system for things like games and facebook. but for HD movies for example i switch to webos
Meego (what Intel and Nokia were working together) was open sourced and even it is not being developed on. The real problem is that there is no momentum and impact on WebOS, compared to iOS and Android. While it may have good ideas, a lot of the problems in contributing comes from hardware compatibility. The touchpad audience is kinda small, compared to what Android is being targeted at. I imagine porting it to other phone/tablet devices would bring it's own bag of problems, too.

Meego never had a market. Only two devices were ever released. webOS felt like it had a chance to beat iOS when it first came out, and was a flagship phone for Sprint for a time.
webOS, on the other hand, has a lot of loyal users and developers ready to help deal with any hardware problems when we get started porting. There are a good number of developers hanging over on Sprint with their Pre-'s, or even better, FrankenPre 2's. People who are willing to do that for an OS are the kind that aren't leaving you any time soon.
Hello everybody, this is the story about why i switched back to Android from IOS. Hope you enjoy!
When i first got in to Smartphones i bought a HTC Tattoo, and it was a very good device to begin with. It had Android Version 1.6, and that was fine to me in some time, but then i found out that Google had released Android Version 2.1 and even 2.3 (Gingerbread) and i got a little bit disapointed with my phone, i waited for weeks for my device to get updated but it never did..... So i saved up for a new phone with a newer version of Android so i bought the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 (Yeah. i know it was a crappy device, but i didnt know much about phones back then...) and it had Android Version 2.1 (Froyo) and i was really happy a long time, but at some point I was getting bored, so i wanted a new version of android to try some new things but that never happend either.... besides that the Xperia X8 was really laggy all the time and had a 600mhz procceser inside and couldnt run the most basic games..... so i was getting really angry on Android and bought a IPhone 4S because i was tired of all the apps and games i couldnt run on my old phone and never gotten updates Android updates. so i used the IPhone about a year and i was really happy, and i could run all the apps i wanted to try, and i got 2 major updates, but one day i was on Youtube and i saw the way Android has evolved and has gotten Project butter so it was alot smoother and you could do anything you want with it when you rooted it, even ahole new rom. Then i looked at my IPhone 4S and I felt very limited with an IPhone.
so i sold my IPhone a bought a brand new LG Nexus 4, and i am REALLY happy i did it, because now Android is smooth and powerful enough to handle intensive apps and because it´s a Nexus device i get all the new updates straight from google.
and i will never buy a IPhone again because it gives me a limit so i can´t do the things i want to do.
It's somthing clear and known

You made a great decision to get on Android again :good: Nowadays if you want to be happy from your Android you need to have a powerful high-end device otherwise some of the old ones sooner or later get really slow and crappy and get on your nerves like my Galaxy i9000 which I really want to change. :
As long as you have a mid to high end device android runs circles around ios
I agree. It took a while for Android devices and the OS to catch up but catch up they did and now Android is in the lead imo.
On average though, the quality of the average Android app is lower than that IOS apps but that's because the Google gatekeepers aren't as strict, which I believe is a good thing anyway.
More and more I'm thinking IOS is almost dead now. Unless they revolutionize it I would give it another year
Apple has too close an ecosystem, they need to open up a little bit. Otherwise they may stagnate.

I agree. It took a while for Android devices and the OS to catch up but catch up they did and now Android is in the lead imo.
On average though, the quality of the average Android app is lower than that IOS apps but that's because the Google gatekeepers aren't as strict, which I believe is a good thing anyway.

What? Android apps are just as good or better than iOS apps.
Quality over quantity and android has the former and enough of the latter.

So here is my question..
What made you jump to the Android platform?
What phone did you come from?
What was wrong?
Why?
For me: I had used 3 iPhones, (3GS, 4, 4S). After close to a year with the iPhone I saw how boring it was to see the icons. Over and over again.
Then I deceided to get the latest of android at the time. The Galaxy Nexus with 4.0  But comming from an iPhone, I missed the quantity and the quality of the apps. But soon I got used to it.
My future of android phones, HTC One X, Galaxy Note and the S4.
So far my impressions are very good on Android but when I used to jailbreak my iPhone the quality of Cydia tweaks over the 'mods' and ROMs for Android devices.
I hope people find this useful.

I'm come from Bada with a Samsung Wave, there were a lot of good things, but the store was too poor with apps... I was searching an Android phone (don't like the narrow-minded of Apple), so I search a phone without Phone bill, the phones are very expensive, but after reading a lot review, I choose a Galaxy Nexus for $420

Sorry for my bad English, I'm French
I had all the iPhones ever made I moved to android cause of big screen and I wanted to try something different but as of now I only have one gripe its the fact I can't get my contacts off itunes .

I come from symbian, android and the quality is exceptional by comparison, are more than satisfied!
Android
I've always been a fan of various Linux distros so I have a better understanding of whats going on inside my HTC One V phone (now with CM 10.1 ) so I've always thought Android was the way to go. Most Linux based OS/apps usually have an awesome community (like xda dev) to help with any problems that may pop up.
I came to Android from Symbian OS, I had Nokia 5230 for 3 years before, and I got bored of it's slow performance, and low RAM, so I decided to upgrade it to Samsung Galaxy S3, which was a great step I think, and I learned many things with my Samsung, so now I am not that stupid beginner on Android which I was before.
because its AWESOME!
i switched form IOS because android makes me feel FREE. Im cant just change "almost" everything... I can change EVERYTHING!
I had a maxx mobile which is a local company
it was such a pathetic phone , with its bad keypad , small screen , no apps nothing
Later I read about android os in news and about so many applications and based on Linux ( using linux on pc for long time )
it was then I wanted to buy an android phone
Hence the jump

I switched because I felt there weren't as many cool apps with the iPhone as there are with androids. I haven't missed my iPhone yet.
Because symbian is dead.
Because the only alternative at the time was iOS. Windows looked too ugly and didn't function how i wanted it to.
I came from a winmo 6.5 HTC HD2. (tmobile nl branded one, so I couldnt even get the newest firmware to flash android onto it.) Eventually, the marketplace was shut down. Which wasnt that big of a problem if you have no issue with piracy. But then the microphone broke, and I decided it was time for a new phone.
And Android gave me choices, iOS doesn't. So there was never any real 'choice', which is fine I'm perfectly happy with Android.
So it became the s3 (no MicroSD = no buy. So HTC ONE was as little of an option as the iPhone. )
Now eagerly awaiting the Note 3.

Htc touch pro. Because the windows mobile is dying and less application makes me feel its a boring system .no playful games such some game loft game in android now! But some how I still miss it .cause it can make video call by network ,not video chat in application now.
Android
When the time came to make a choice, I chose the Android platform.
Many of the people I knew at the time that were using the Windows platform had many complaints and problems.
I knew little about the iOS phones, but I'm happy I chose Android.
I've had zero problems!

I myself was sick of iOS and pretty much having to have the new phone to run the new versions of the apps, which was total bs, not to mention the whole thing just started freezing up after awhile just cause it was 'old', I would literally have to throw it on the ground (carpeted) then reboot it just to get it running again for a few minutes. Never seen that problem with android, hell my boyfriend was running s2 up until a month or two ago when he got the htc one, not once did I see it lockup.

If you backup to icloud you can export your contact list as a Vcard and import it on your new phone easy... Thats what I did, I had the 3gs and 4s and was just tired of chasing the next jailbreak.
I love my new HTC One!

"Jumped" to Android because it's open source, Google owns it, I can do whatever I want with it ( Nexus 4 ), etc...
iOS devices are not choice, thay never was, never will.
Switched from "dumbphone" Sony Ericsson W610i
I came from the ios zone i switched to android because upgeading on ios is a pain :l

WebOS
I switched from WebOS (Palm). I enjoyed the phone Palm Pre+, but the OS was severely limited and did not catch on as HP had hoped it would. It was small, fast (for it's time) and had good storage 16gb. It is still my MP3 player, why buy an apple product if you have something that works.
From 2003 onwards I was using Symbian from s60v2 to Anna till 2009, I was very used to Symbian as it also supported off market apps of java and sis /sisx(side load), I was well aware of all the tricks in that OS. But Nokia has never changed it's interface.
Then I switch to Android seeing no development is going in Symbian OS and Nokia people are migrating to MS
