New vid on replacing the screen digitizer - HTC Sensation

I just took a vid of replacing the touchscreen digitizer on my T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G.
Put /watch?v=T5bWl73O9ss after youtube.com. Or just search youtube for "HTC Sensation Screen Repair"
My old account (bronson) was disabled for some reason so you'll need to type the URL (can an admin make this clickable please?)
Needed:
torx screwdriver
00 precision phillips screwdriver
2 case splitters / pry tools
It's really not too bad a job for anyone who's done a repair like this before. Hardly requires any tools, doesn't involve too many parts or screws.
Question: has anyone replaced the LCD? I couldn't figure out how to separate the LCD from the frame. Luckily I didn't have to, but that would sure beat shaving the frame a bit to slide the touchscreen controller through.

there's the link

did you have any problems with the touch screen after replacing? I replaced mine and now the bottom left corner isnt working properly. Around where the q/1 key is located. any ideas on the problem?

Immediately after the repair everything worked great. A week later I started getting the widespread lock-ring-of-death problem. No idea if it's related. I've tried some lock-ring-of-death fixes but none of them worked. I'm starting to think this phone is a lemon.
If everything works except part of the screen, I'd guess you were sold a bad screen...? The decoder is connected directly to the screen so it's hard picture a bad connection causing that.

Broken screen

Managed to drop my Sensation XE on the pavement and then stand on it (like an idiot).
LCD looks ok but the digitiser is completely shafted, has anyone successfully replaced theirs? I found the video guide below, looks doable but fairly difficult, just trying to work out if I should drop £30 on replacement parts or go to a repair centre (repair centre quoted £100)

Sod it. Bought the digitizer. Reckon it's doable.
I nailed it.
Not sure I'd recommend the DIY route to anyone else as I think came very close to killing my phone, but I feel well ninja for pulling it off.
OK maybe I didn't nail it quite so much.
Phone works as expected, but camera crashes each time I open it. Front facing camera seems ok, rear facing camera just crashes out every time. I'm guessing it's not connecting properly.
Can't find anything about replacing digitisers affecting the camera, any ideas?
The camera is probably loose, check it again. Or the flex cables are broken and faulty.

[Q] Touch unresponsive at #456 on phone

Picked up this phone from CL. The person was claiming that part of the screen is not responding to touch.
I have seen it when I picked it up, but I thought that I will deal with it when I get home.
I was keep playing with the phone almost everything it's working on it except the volume buttons and that horizontal line where the #456 is on the dial pad.
I have removed the battery and noticed that the white sticker it was pink, water damage.
Now I don't know what could be the damage here? There is a shadow across the screen also, but it's not a crack.
I have seen this before on a digital camera, it was the aluminum sheet metal under the LCD, had a smudge across on that aluminum finish too.
Couldn't remove it though. Replaced the screen on the camera and it was as new.
Not sure what could be the problem with the phone?
Should I replace the digitizer, since the LCD shows everything correctly? It could be something shorted internally? I have the phone apart, but I don't see anything wrong. Cleaned all the contact with electronic cleaner, no change.
Any help would be appreciated.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

I think I would replace the LCD and digitizer as a unit. The slightly higher cost would be easier to accept than having to do it more than once, which would probably end up costing more. Either way is a gamble, though, because that might not be the issue.
Volume buttons are notorious on this phone. I have not known or read about someone fixing them. You can get around the problem for the most part by using software to control the volume, using roms that will restart to recovery or boot loader, and the occasional use of ADB commands, but some bootloop situations require the hardware to work.
Good luck with your project and let us know how it works out.
Not just a pretty Pickle.
I'm thinking of buying the whole LCD as a unit, but that is why I'm asking that maybe somebody could tell me if it's the LCD or other hardware.
The volume button it's together with the upper camera board and I guess it has to be replaced together.

digitizer or LCD screen.

So my photon Q is rather old. Shocking I'm sure. Recently the screen has started behaving very oddly. Flickers, sensitivity is weird, blacks out etc..
I thought perhaps flex ribbon due to keyboard sliding and closing but now I think may be digitizer or the lcd. I"m leaning towards digitizer becasue when it does work it looks perfectly clear. But there will be the one time i push the power to check if I have anything and nothing happens. Reset it and can see the screen wants to do something but can't decide what. Reset over and over and eventually boots up fine.
Digitizer?
Thanks for any info.
Anybody able to chime in
Flickering screen can't have anything to do with the digitizer. The digitizer is just there for input.
It could be that the connector is a bit loose on the mainboard. The way the Photon is designed I wouldn't think it's the ribbon. I could be, but very unlikely. Anyway it's worth looking into the connectors and just to be sure the ribbon as well. But that would take a full dismantle. The connector is just 5 minutes work.
Next time try booting into recovery. If that goes well (and regular boot not) i'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem (GPU).

When boot in any mode Ican't see anything.. A fading circle of grey lines runs vertically down the front. Sometimes after many reboots it fixes itself though. Good to know not digitizer. So take apart and check ribbon and maybe replace LCD likely?
I wonder if it is possible to simply replace the LCD if it's defective or if you have to replace the whole LCD-digitizer-speaker-etc set (which is expensive).

I ordered a replacement lcd screen so will find out. I also ordered the digitizer and flex cable.
So i'm thinking it may be more hardware involved than screen inolved. When it does work everything is usable and it works fine. This is only about 10% of the time at this point. Otherwise it boots up to show some vertical lines traveling down the middle of the screen but only in a circle in the middle of the screen that fades as it gets close to the edges. I'll try taking apart tomorrow night to see if ribbon and what not looks ok. But so far i've invested about $70 into parts and i'm thinkin about just snagging an S5 for $100. I will miss the keyboard though although I can hope that like the s3 and s4, the s5 will get a keyboard attachment. Thoughts?
If I remember correctly the LCD comes with the ribbon and camera connected. The digitizer is connected via a ribbon to a board in the top of the front panel. You could try to disable the pin. When the phone doesn't seem to work, reboot and try calling yourself. If it rings, there's something wrong with the screen and not the phone.
If there was something seriously wrong with the phone, it wouldn't boot. But that's just me guessing/assuming.
My daughter's Photon has had a digitzer replacement twice. And it looks like it's been used to play football. But that one still rocks. No quirks or any strange behavior for that matter.
What I'm trying to say is that the Photon is a decent piece of hardware. A family of four, we all have a Photon. Three of which have had their digitizer replaced and one an LCD (scratched it when replacing digitizer).
I swapped my Razr HD for an Z2. It was time for a new corporate phone. So that, and the camera, is the reason why I went for a Z2. My options were 930/G3/S5/Z2. S5 is not my cup of tea. The G3 has no ruggedness whatsoever. The 930, apart from WP maybe I should have went for it.
So it came down to the Z2. To be honest I'm looking to trade it when the Z3 compact arrives. We'll see.
@Loader009
Digitizer is a part, board for speaker is a part, the speaker itself is a part (adhesive, watch out, btw 100% the same as Droid4), and the LCD is a part on it's own.
Going to open up my phone tonight after work. I was bored and was just playing with the keyboard sliding it open and closed a bunch and now the screen looks perfectly clear.. although sometimes it will still black out and I have to reboot it a few times to get it back. I feel its more a connection inside like you stated earlier. I love my Photon and really don't want to have to get a non slider phone. New phone's are so friggin huge lol.
The good thing is, the PQ has gotten pretty cheap, so you might want to get a used one at ebay if the part to replace is too expensive.
flickering screen (backlight) is not lcd problem.
for 70% is it problem on mainboard - backlight ic. This problem is caused by using unoriginal charger.
and 30% flex problem
I had my screen become un-responsive etc, it was due to a crack in the ribbon. Swapped it out & all ok.
Easier to swap the whole screen assy than to change the ribbon, but depends on what spares you have/can get.
You'd need to have a good look at the ribbon for any damage.

OEM LCD Touchscreen Digitizer Replacement Problem

I have a second generation Shield Tablet K1 that I purchased in December 2015.* The tablet was knocked off a counter and landed face down on travertine tile. The glass/digitizer did remarkably well considering but still had a large crack going down the middle of the screen. The tablet still worked in all regards* and I used it with no issues for 6 weeks. I purchased an NVIDIA SHIELD TABLET P1761W OEM LCD TOUCHSCREEN DIGITIZER on eBay.
I had the new digitizer installed locally at a phone/tablet repair shop. The shop called me and told me the tablet was ready for pickup but there were some issues with certain areas of touch screen not working. Basically the upper half of the touch screen works fine and the lower half does not work at all. As far as I can tell the area that works is exactly 50% of the screen. Just trying to do the basics on it right now is a pain as I have to rotate the tablet 180 degrees every few seconds in order to be able to touch a specific key or an app. Of course the shop won't warranty the work because I didn't buy the digitizer from them. What I'm wondering is if anyone can suggest a specific ribbon wire that may need to be replaced or simply checked to make sure the connection is good on it? Should I replace the touch screen controller?
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
well, if you don't want to open it up yourself, maybe try getting another, more "able" person to look at it. Check reviews and the company, see if it's a known issue, it just might be a bad buy. I'm bet Ebay will do something about it if you contact them, also try contacting the supplier
I don't mind opening it up. I was hoping for some insight as to what to look for. I can swap out the Touchscreen Controller from my original digitizer and see if that corrects the issue. I thought with such a specific issue (only the upper half of the touchscreen working) someone could tell me yes, with that symptom you need to replace your Touchscreen Controller or that would only happen if XYZ ribbon weren't connected.
Maybe the touch screen is defect?
You're screwed. The repair shop tore the digitizer flex cable. The flex cable has no room to flex on an angle, so the cable just rips.
I just did this myself, and was looking around for a replacement when I found this thread. I couldn't find the problem until after I ripped it more; Now only the top left corner works.
I'm just buying a new one, because the problem I initially opened it to fix needs a heat gun, which I don't have.
Good luck

Display replacement and troubles

First, sorry my english. If anything is incomprehensible, ask me.
Not long ago I dropped the device and fell to a gravel, not defended by the ?Gorilla Glass. It became a spider web. Essentially, the device was working, sensing the touch, and the display was relatively intact in just one spot a little pressed. I ordered a replacement part from here, because the glass also fell and because it couldn't stay. I chose express delivery, stuff arrived within 1 week. I have made it difficult to disassemble the device because the back is glued together. It didn't want to come down, I tried all kinds of plastic tools they had given and what they were, but the glue was so strong that they all broke (I'll be curious to know how to put them together). I had to use a paper cutter, because it is sharp and goes into the gap. Unfortunately, the breakdown at the corner is slightly visible, but it must be as much trouble. Luckily the adhesive came out of the battery. (I will also have to order it from somewhere for rebuilding ). The main panel also came out of the house nicely. If we are already here, I removed the unwanted heat conductor paste and replaced it with quality Grizzly.
The display did not want to come out, it glued to the frame so strongly that it was impossible to remove it. I managed to do it in pieces, and I licked the remainder for half an hour. Worse, there is something new, no matter. Then I realized that the new one had no glue, and that the old one could not be removed because it was not an adhesive, but something like a very thin siloplast. I have injection needles and black silo, so I can make up. No loudspeaker lattice was added. I hope I can take the old one somehow to stay together. And here comes the black soup:
I plugged in the cable and turned the phone on (not screwed up with just a few screws to hold it). I have a picture, I started to calm down. Need to unlock it, but don't works, it don't feel my finger. Nowhere. If I remove the factory foil, either. I looked at the stuff in more detail. The photo already shows that something is wrong in the lower right corner of the display. The original has a large square-shaped Synaptics S3330 chip, the touch panel controller (like Mi 5). However, this is missing from the replacement device, with a much smaller IC of "S20A X705E24". I have no idea what it is, but it is also suspicious that a ribbon cable goes below the original and there is nothing there. But on the site of the seller there is also the ribbon cable in the pictures and it is highlighted as "Multi fingers touch chip". This may be some great big scam. However, if it have a Touch controller IC and something that is supposed to work in principle, then the Synaptics driver (kernel module) is loaded on Android. I suspect that then this IC should get the kernel module somewhere and should be loaded to work with a rooted device. But I also thought that I would try some other rom (AOSP, LineageOS) and see if it would go with it, but chances are that Recovery would not work with a USB mouse + keyboard. Maybe there are different hardware versions of Chinese and global versions? Because it is possible that Chinese (or eu) would work.
I wrote to the seller that the stuff wasn't working, he said I would remove the connectors with an alcoholic cloth (of course he didn't help). Until then, the time was up to 15 days, so I can't start a dispute. He asked me how he could help, I wrote to him that I didn't know but I needed another display in this device. I wrote to him that he might be able to return my money or send another display. He said that if I stood at 75% of the cost then he would send a new one. At first I would have gone into it, but now that I've examined this and it turned out, I wrote it and sent the picture as well. I don't expect anything good.
I found another seller that is already fitted with the frame (minimal more expensive), maybe there shouldn't be any fun with gluing, I could do better if this is not solved this way.
What do you think about this whole thing?
That gold one is dor mix 2,and that black one is for mi mix 2s, right?
