It has a proprietary 40 pin connector. To use USB devices you'll need the keyboard dock or the usb adapter(but the adapter isn't released yet).

[Q] ethernet via micro USB??

I understand how to use a micro. B USB to USB2.0 cable to a USB conector to a USB to ethernet adapter. I can figure out how to plug it together. Question is, will ethernet actually work via the micro USB port (are all the right things there on the Xoom side of the port)?
cant imagine it would work with some kind of drivers.

[Q] Male Micro/Mini USB to Female Regular sized USB

Does anyone know if I purchased one of these can the Transformer then read memory cards or use other USB peripherals?
no one has tried yet, try it for us and find out!
I would if I had the tablet. If it does it would be a major plus.
Well we know for a fact that the 40 pin connector that is used to hook up the tablet to PC and charger through USB allows for USB host, we just don't know if it would be so simple that all we have to do is use a female to female converter.
I would think that it would work, because that's how you transfer files to the tablet. Not sure about peripherals though. If this does work it would easily make this better then any tablet.
if I can get myself to put down the money and if someone posts a link I'll try it.

I meant usb female to USB female since I don't have anything with microUSB just wanna test host.
Just bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BSN4UY female to female adapter, I'll test USB host I guess
The tablet only has a micro, so I guess I don't understand why you would buy that item.

The tablet doesn't have a micro port, it has a proprietary 40 pin to USB male cable with a proprietary 40 pin socket. So you need atleast reg female to reg female to get host at the minimum.
Never mind just figured it out. You are going to use the micro usb cable that can with the tablet and hook up the female to female. Sorry.
I thought the tablet did have a micro usb host?
only ports are the proprietary connector used for hooking it up to the PC/charger/dock and mini HDMI out. But the proprietary connector supports USB host.

[Q] usb otg cable question

hi, i am planning on buying a micro usb to usb female cord and i wanted to plug the micro usb into the xoom, and a mouse into the usb female. would that mouse work with the xoom, or will the drivers for the mouse not work? thank you
I'm not sure, I don't use a mouse on my Xoom. But I have heard from other Xoom users that the Bluetooth Mouse works.

If you want to use a USB connected mouse you need the Xoom to be in USB host mode. You need to have flashed a rom or kernel that supports USB host mode and you need a USB OTG cable, such as the Motorola Camera Connection cable. You can't just use a regular USB cable with a micro end and a female end.
but you can build your own OTG cable.
buy a micro usb B head
and a usb A recept
and solder it together
the schematic is quite the same like the factory cable
instead of soldering pin 1 to 5 (+) like the factory cable u have to solder pin 4 and 5 together (ground)
you can find a lot of DIY tut´s just google it

I can provide OTG HDMI converter Factory cable. If you need, you can PM me.
Just bought this cable from Amazon
It works just fine with wireless Microsoft Keyboard+Mouse but was not able to make it work with my Lumix Camera and Card Reader. Seems there are problems with Android version 4.0.4
My Xoom is MZ604 WIFI only NOT Rooted. Keyboard and Mouse works fine even without rooting it.

I think it's the XOOM do not support your camera module(no this module driver).Maybe you can upgrade OS to FIX.This issue is ONLY driver issue.

Pics would be helpful. I assume you want to utilise USB OTG which requires a USB OTG cable, and an external VDD of +5V as the phone does not supply power via USB.

MicroUSB-only OTG stick?

I've been looking for a otg stick that is as physically small as possible, but most are pretty "big" due to having a USB A male on the other end (or as flipover). Are there any OTG sticks that are USB A-less?
Closest thing I've seen to that is Meenova's MicroSD card reader. It only has a micro-USB plug but it comes with an adapter for full-size USB.
