Wondering if there is any way to easily add-on / flash the 'required protocols' needed to pair a rooted Sensation with a SixAxis controller.
I downloaded the compatibility app to check, and it said the Bluetooth 'required protocols' were missing.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to pair a SixAxis for gaming on the sensation...
http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/about.html
Important - Due to the non-standard protocol that the controllers use to communicate with the host, this application requires root access. Additionally, it is incompatible with most HTC devices and some newer Samsung devices. This is due to the required bluetooth protocol not being implemented on these devices. We are actively looking into a work around, but currently the only solution is to install a custom firmware, such as Cyanogenmod, that supports the required protocols.

Thanks to all the dev's in advance.
Not to crush your hopes, but I believe this is the same issue with connecting WiiMote controllers to Android phones...
... HTC has messed with the Bluetooth stack so much that on Sense roms they never got it working, and as far as I know nobody ever fixed it (or tried to fix it).
I believe that the HTC Bluetooth stack just misses portions for this (like raw device access I believe) and it isn't just as simple as 'adding missing files'. You can replace the entire Bluetooth stack with the AOSP one (if you got the drivers and all) but apparently that breaks Sense since the Bluetooth stack libs or such as needed to run Sense.
So AOSP / CyanogenMod ROMs (which aren't up and running yet on the Sensation I believe) or hope that somebody has a brand new idea on how to tackle this.
i saw sense rom with modified bluetooth stack and gut such apps working back then for the HD2 ...
i think it is possible to change the stack on sense roms if we would find the right dev to do it for us !!!!!
would also love to see this. even with Sensation's huge screen, my fingers covers half the screen when playing games with onscreen controls. hope this request gets solved.
Hi, I have read if I get my phone (HTC Sensation 4G) "rooted" (not sure how to do this) and install CyanogenMod 7 (could not find it for Sensation) I could use the SixAxis PS3 controller app on my phone.
Does anyone know where I could find CM7 to install on my Sensation (they have it for the MyTouch 4G which seems to be a similar phone, could I install that version of CM7?)?
How can I "root" my device?
Perhaps is there a different method to "tweek" the bluetooth protocol for my phone to pair with the PS3 controller?
I have seen a few youtube videos with the sixaxis working on other phones (Samsung Galaxy S, x10 mini pro, HTC Desire, HTC HD2) and since the Sensation 4G is the newest and best T-Mobile device I assumed there would be some way to get this app to work.
Im desperately trying to use the Sixaxis app (want to do 4 player Mario Kart and 007 via HDMI on my tv with 4 PS3 controllers!!) on my HTC Sensation 4G and if anyone has a way to make this work (or an update) please let me know- thank you!
Well, 4 player Mario Kart via HDMI is going to have to wait a little longer. First, we need AOSP or CM ROM's written for the Sensation (which they aren't), then we can go about trying to get it working.

1: Not out for sensation yet, wait. and No you can't, it's a different device.
2: There's a sticky on the Development section
3: Rewrite the bluetooth drivers
4: Yes there is wait for CM7 or rewrite protocol
5: And again, wait.
I know in the desirehd thread, one of the developers by the name of xxxpachaxxx was able to get six axis to work on a modified kernal for sense roms. Works on his rooms but may try it on others. You should see if he made one for the sensation and is not pm him and hope he can. Just proof to show it is possible. I wonder if they fixed this in Sense 4.0.

im determined to get down to some fallout 1 and 2 on the go on my dhd and iv had a look into the bluetooth keyboard routem just seems a bit much to spend 30 odd gbp on a keyboard online to discover it wont work on my DHD.
Pls someone put me out of my misery and direct me to a bluetooth (or micro usb) keyboard and mouse set up that will work on the DHD
i will be most grateful
meh
How are you playing Fallout 1 and 2!?!?
You will need scripts to get HiD working. N900 can use keyboard and mouse via BT (and USB now) but you need to get scripts, and I'm guessing this would be the same.
Look and see if anyone has it running on Desire or Z. Should be easy to bring them over.

This is my point I'M NOT PLAYING IT YET but this is down to the fact I have no keyboard or mouse yet. And as for how I would run the Games I wud use a dos box style emulator then play the Games. Th insides of the dhd specs show up as good as my mums desktop which I play fallout on so I imagine if u can get doom ported to Android fallout will be no buggy either. Can u imagine the joy of long train journeys with fallout to keep u occupied. As for the second paragraph of ur post I have no idea about any of that stuff. I have seen a MINI bt keyboard saying it is desire Hd compatible but until its confirmed I ain't parting with my cash.

That isn't a very intelligent question. The point is to type. Probable to be able to write a lot, like note taking during a meeting of something.
I would surely buy when if one would be out.

Cyanogen includes a program called Bluekeyboard JP
I have used my logitech bluetooth keyboard with mouse trackpad designed for the PS3 with it before.
Detects it as an HID device and gives a keyboard option in input settings. Works farely well.
I have tried all the other bluetooth keyboard apps in the market and none of them enabled me to use it until I used cyanogen.

Using Freedom Pro Bluetooth keyboard with DHD
To original poster for this thread,
http://www.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc...tooth-keyboard-for-android/new/?topicseen#new
Australian poster in the above thread maintains she has got this keyboard to work. I have not bought one yet so cannot confirm that it works myself.
See item here:

Good luck

Thanks Midgeslayer, that looks very cool. Just friggen expensive in South Africa. Just under $200
The safest option would be I'd say using a BT Keyboard like the Freedom Pro or maybe trying out Bluetooth JP or other software on another BT Keyboard.
The cheapest way if you don't own a bluetooth keyboard would be to use a USB Keyboard and create an adaptor or USB Dongle as follows. Again I'm still too nervous about this. If someone with a better understanding of electronics and the Desire HD could explain to me if solderding up this USB Dongle which shorts a pin on the USB connector is safe then I'll do it... The parts can be bought from dealextreme.com or ebay for next to nothing. Mini USB Keybaords are also very cheap.
Here's the link:
http://gigaom.com/mobile/how-to-add-a-usb-keyboard-to-an-android-phone/
Which do you think would be better for saving battery, a USB keyboard or a Bluetooth keyboard? I am wondering if any real difference as I am planning on doing this for full days of lectures and typing notes.
Possible Blueinput solution
I can't say about the DHD, but you might like to check at the teksoftco forum
I am running their Blueinput driver with an Apple Wifi Keyboard on a Nexus One v 2.2.1 OK. Only snag for me is that the keyboard has a Norwegian layout and Blueinput treats it as a US one..
Mvh
According to their website Orange UK are about to offer the freedom universal bluetooth keyboard for a measly £7. Does anyone know if this version of the keyboard is compatible with the DHD in the same way as the Freedom Pro?

Here it is a short demonstration (no audio since I don't speak english well ):
Please note that root is required for this application.
Quick tutorial:
Open the application and click on the start button (top/left button ">")
Check for errors in the log window
IMPORTANT: if you got the error "invalid or inactive bluetooth device", your device is not supported and your only option is to try a different ROM like Cyanogenmod (I cannot fix that because the problem is at "kernel" level).
Pair your device with an host of your choice* like in video 1 (Linux) or 2 (PS3)
Once paired, click on the lens button (secondo top/left) to refresh the available bluetooth devices
Click on a device of your choice to establish a connection
Once connected a green screen should appear (like in video n°1)
Single press to simulate the left mouse button (the background should change in blue)
Double press to simulate the right mouse button (the background should change in red)
Hit "menu" to show/hide/change the keyboard
*Tested hosts:
PS3: works
Linux: works (tested on Ubuntu 10.10)
Windows 7: not working (I'm actually trying to fix it)
MAC: ? (reported to not work)
Vizio Internet TV: works (thanks to Trevor for reporting)

Anyone who has one, have you tried a BT keyboard out yet? I have a DHD which doesn't support one but was hoping the Sensation, with BT3, would.
Any information appreciated.
Dave
Hmmm. I know there aren't too many Sensations in the wild yet but I thought that someone might have tried a BT keyboard by now.... Is there any way to know if the BT 'HID' profile is on the phone? I believe that's the profile needed for a keyboard.
Any comments on this driver ... https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mymobilegear ... ? Seems to have mixed reviews in the market.
Also, what's the general consensus on BT with the Sensation for headsets and music streaming to, say, a car head unit? Any problems seen as yet? I ask as none of the reviews I've seen mention BT except to say 'it's supported'.
Thanks
Dave
Can't comment on Bluetooth keyboards, but i have used it in my car paired with my Sony car stereo and it works fine. Think that is using the Bluetooth headphone profile.

Thanks for that. Been doing some more digging to try to find out about keyboards. Seems my current phone "should" support a keyboard like the Freedom Pro which supports the SPP profile (also used for keyboards, as is the HID profile). See ... http://www.apt8h.com/Computer/Elect...st-foldable-bluetooth-keyboards-reviewed.html ... for a review and more details.
Then I had one of those doh!!! moments and checked HTCs website for the Sensation at ... http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html ... and down under Bluetooth we find ...
"... Bluetooth® 3.0
A2DP for wireless stereo headsets
FTP and OPP (object push) for file transfer
PBAP for phonebook access from the car kit
Other supported profiles: AVRCP, GAP, GOEP, HFP, HID, HSP, MAP, SPP, SDAP ..."
Seems I answered my own question However, the proof of the pudding and all that .... it'd still be interesting to find someone who'd had one working ...

That'd be great. Just to clarify though, I don't think it's the BT 3 that's the issue as prior BT levels had the HID profile with other phones. I think BT 3 itself is more about power savings. Why HTC decided to add the HID profile to this release, arther than earlier, is anyones guess. Be interesting to know that as well though .....

So, final verdict? Which keyboard should one get if they want a mini keyboard that can fit in ones pockets?

My Rii mini bluetooth keyboard works flawlessly with my Sensation. You don't need to install anything just search for devices and connect
bluezimie didn't work. Using keypro and so far so good.
i-Tech VKB and keypro
Update:
Been using the i-tech vkb for a day and so far ok for what it is. This virtual keyboard is what I remember it is to be since I used it with my old MW600 by Sony Ericsson running Symbian OS.
The app works great with this kb. Of course there will be miskeys due to the spacing of the kb and where your finger is pressed, but I get that anyway using the onscreen kb lol....
Anyway here are some pics I snapped. I know it's pretty bright in here. It's 105 here today! There's bound to be "SOME" sun lol

Here is the long waited Onlive Viewer app for android extracted from HTC Flyer Tablet's latest firmware update. The viewer allows you to use all features available on the desktop version of Onlive except for playing games (Yes, you cant play but you can go to arena and watch others play for now). Lets hope that onlive releases an update soon that will allow us to play onlive games on our android devices. If you dont know what onlive is, here is a piece of text from wikipedia:
OnLive is a cloud computing, gaming-on-demand service. Onlive itself is not a platform. The games are executed, synchronized, rendered, and stored on remote servers (running Windows) and delivered via the Internet to clients running either Windows or Mac OS X.
The service is available using the OnLive Game System, PCs running Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Intel-based Macs with OS X 10.5.8 or later. A low-end computer, as long as it can play video, may be used to play any kind of game since the game is computed on the OnLive server. For that reason, the service is being seen as a competitor for the console market. All games on the service are available in 720p format. OnLive recommends an Internet connection of 5 Mbit/s or faster, and a 3 Mbit/s connection meets the minimum system requirements. The average broadband connection speed in the US at the end of 2008 was 3.9 Mbit/s, while 25% of US broadband connections were rated faster than 5 Mbit/s.

I cannot connect to my PC With Blue-tooth. I am using widdcom v6.1 on my Windows 7 64bit computer, and my HTC inspire 4g is running Stock Gingerbread non root with v2.1 blue-tooth. When I try to pair my phone with my PC that is using a rocketfish blue-tooth dongle RF-MRBTAD for my PC, my PC finds the phone. Although, it does not ask for a pairing code on phone or computer. It only says that the pairing code was incorrect. I need to know if it is a hardware or OS incompatibility issue, or if it is a software/firmware compatibility issue. If it is a software issue, where i can find an update or a ROM that will be able to incorporate the PC compatibility. I have already called HTC and Rocketfish to find out what is happening, and HTC said it may be a version incompatibility (they weren't sure), and rocketfish said they did not know. I have not contacted Bluetooth.org about the situation yet. Microsoft has no helpful files on the subject.
Edit-- added phone version info
If there is anyone looking into this problem further please at least post an update that you are looking into it. I have gone as far as my expertise can take me at this point. Please help.
New Update
I found out that it is the bluetooth.apk that is the problem. There is something wrong with the stack. I updated my phone to CM7.1.0 Desire HD ROM, but it has the same problem.
This is the error I get within windows.

I have tried to fix the problem every way possible, but with no resolution. I can connect to other devices, but not to my phone. If there is a solution or a fix somewhere that I can download to install a different Bluetooth.apk, or a ROM with a .APK that will work. I prefer to stay with CyanogenMOD though. Please fix this problem.
Working on adjusting the Bluetooth.apk
I am working on adjusting the bluetooth, apk file for Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Desire HD Stable mod to be able to accept a pairing code request from a computer. I am new to this and have to read a lot of documentation to be able to fix this problem. If you are waiting on this update please let me know.
I know very little about this.
Your pc connects to other bluetooth devices, right?
Does your cellphone connect to other bluetooth devices?
How about trying to update the rom? I believe the last version is 7.2 for cyanogen (gb version - above that would be ics)
Edit: Just noticed it happens with two different roms. Does the cell connect to other bluetooth devices?

Yes My phone connects to other bluetooth Devices. I am able to pair my phone with my bluetooth headset, and other phones. I am using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my computer, and the keyboard is able to pair with my phone, and my phone asks for a pairing code when pairing with the keyboard. There is not an ICS available for Ace devices yet, but I am trying to speak with the Devs to help with that. Here is the thread for the ICS update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582669
My knowledge reaches flashing
And thats about it.
Well, good luck cause I wouldn't be much help.
My only other suggestion would be to try with a different bluetooth dongle or try connecting your cell to a different computer, see if the problem persists.
From there, no idea.
Good luck.

Tried both. It works, just not with a PC. Something to do with the LMP on Bluetooth.

I could be wrong but you shouldn't need additional Bluetooth software for Win7. I have never used the Rocketfish dongle, but my Asus and generic dongles work fine with built in Bluetooth software.

I switched my phone to ice and it works now. I didn't need any extra software for win-win.

Right. I haven't had to use a Widcomm stack since XP.

What stack would you recommend?
