(noob question) what is crt off animation? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

i have kg6 deodexed with root by whitehawx will applying this crt off stuff make my phone faster? or what? whats d effect of those framework?

When you hit the power button on the right side to lock the screen, an old-school CRT (cathode ray tube) TV animation happens on screen as the screen turns off/phone locks. Childhood...
In terms of making your phone faster, I don't think it makes much difference. Maybe a battery life thing but I can't imagine it's even material. If you use spare parts, you probably want to turn it off.

just a little something cool to have lol

[Q] Turning off capacitive button backlight?

Leds hack does not work on the nexus s, is there any alternative?
i would like this too. I put my phone in clock mode most nights and leave it on my night stand. The screen dims very nicely and looks great except for the 4 buttons on the bottom stay bright white!
This would be a nice thing to have. i need to look in the services.jar to see if anything can be edited to accomplish this task.
With my rom and kernel combo the backlights don't come on until pressed when turning the screen on.
Using cm7 and netarchy 1.2.3

Is there an easy way we can implement this mod? I think it would look better having the lights off - giving it more of a complete black slate look.

[Q] Screen off animation?

Different from power off, my friends Evo has a screen off, or a sleep animation. Is that possible with the Mesmerize?

This is requires a MOD to the ROM (I've seen it only in cyanogen ROM's in versions 2.2 and 2.3) I would love to see it as well....

Sounds like a huge battery drain. As often as I turn my screen on and off it would destroy my battery life to have an animation run everytime my screen went black. Cool idea but with the battery life we have on our phones I'm not sure the cool factor would out weigh the drainage.

It's a very good point to bring up, but if you take a look at it right now it's actually already animated. It fades out and in upon lock/unlock.
What he's referring to (probably) is the t.v. power off animation (so basically it just shrinks the image down to the center of the screen before disappearing (like an old t.v) (seems to take the same amount of time the stock one takes)
I would think these would be about the same as far as battery usage, but I really don't have math to back it up.

Hmm very possible. I really hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. It's very quick but I guess it does fade some. I just assumed that was how the screen powered up though.

That totally could be true also, but my main point (hope) is that the T.V. animation is pretty much the same as it has now, just neater looking
Yes, the TV screen animation is exactly the one that my friend has. It's very quick and I don't think would take up a lot of battery. It would be great to see this as an add-on.
That would be awesome, I love how it looks when using cyanogenmod nightlies on the Droid.

[Q] power/lock button on G2x

i know there is a setting to use the volume rocker buttons as unlock buttons, but that does not always work, but besides that is there anyway on the g2x to lock the screen but not have to use any button to unlock it? any app that will let you swipe a pattern to unlock the phone when the screen is off?

How would this be possible? If the screen is off, you can't use it, and thus you can't input anything, and if you can't use any buttons, then there's no way you can unlock it. What are you thinking about, voice recognition?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
no, i still want the phone to lock, i just dont want to have to push any buttons to get it to unlock, for the screen to come back on.
for example, i had a nokia nuron that had a slide switch on the side that would lock the phone, it turned the touchscreen off so you didnt accidentally start something. but it also had a screen timeout that would just blank the screen, then you could touch it and it would come back on without having to use the slide switch
i want to blank the screen without locking it. turning off screen lock you still have to use the button to turn the screen back on
I'm speechless!

This would also cause another problem. The screen being blank but still active would kill the battery really quickly.

well thats true, but it did work like that on my nokia. but really how much more battery would it use if the screen blanks but doesnt sleep? not anymore than if i was using it, probably even less
oh well, guess its just wishful thinking
How can you lock something, and use nothing to unlock it?
For example, you use a key to lock your door, you must use a key to unlock it. Or, you can leave the door open (leave the screen blank), but risk getting robbed (battery drained). I'm sorry if the analogy is bad, what you're asking for is ridiculous.

ok, i think what im doing is confusing blanking the screen with locking the phone, 2 different things. im just concerned that button is gonna get a lot of use and wish the volume rocker wake would work better. oh well
thanks for everyone's input, was just hoping
Blanking the screen like it reduces the brightness after a while? If so, there might be an app for it, but it will definitely reduce your battery greatly.
Either way, don't worry about the button. You probably won't have the phone that long, or you'll break something different.

well i hope to have it that long, just got it

Don't know what's happening..

I'm charging my device, now whenever the screen turns off Boom phone gets SUPER SUPER HOT, but battery is not.
And SOD while the camera part is very hot.
Any solution? :|
That used to happen with me. Try flashing a different kernel. It fixed it for me

You set it to stay awake?
Uh. The screen is turned off while charging.
This is the first time I got SOD and the phone getting super hot to touch by hand.
Seems like my my CPU is going out of control or something..
..
Idk but I put my phone on top of an ice pack and no more SOD... Funny.

Yeah man this happens once in a while... The G2x is retarded like that. For me I'd just take the battery out and leave it for a good 10 minutes, fixed it every time. I guess you can change the kernel but either way a simple reboot and taking the battery out fixes it.
Happens randomly.
Ya try a diff Kernel, are you using the stock one that cam with the rom?

Under settings set the screen to stay awake while charging and don't lock the screen, just let it dim.

This works really well. What I do is open up clock and hit the dim button on top right. This will help with SOD and not keep you up by the bright screen.

Burn in problem

I know the mod is probably going to lock this thread, but I just wanna tell you that today I went a local AT&T store and took a good look at their Galaxy notes there...they all got obvious burn in on the screen.. they were all the same, the charging symbol. I guess they left them at full brightness for too long..I guess what I'm trying to say here is that no amoled is better than the other and we don't need to turn to Notes when their screens just have higher resolution but still suffer from the same problem.
Pretty cool story huh?

Yeah Samsung was saying that the pentile screen would last longer but in this case will still eventually have a burn-in problem.

It's called being careful with your phone....
Burn in usually occurs from leaving a still image on a screen for a very long time. So unless a user were to leave the screen on constantly, and leave the phone still for a long time repeatedly, there shouldn't be a worry for burn in. I've always used full brightness on every smartphone I've had and none of them have had any sign of it.

In case you forgot, the notification bar with the time, battery, and signal icon is almost always on the screen. Very few applications an games are full screen so those icons will burn in at some point as they are a "still image on a screen for a very long time".

Except MIUI. The statusbar inverts colors when you pull it down.
And yes, this belongs in the off topic thread.

It took me 8 months of use to get clear burn-ins to my Galaxy Nexus.
If I hold my nexus landscape, on the other end theres a bluis dark shade exactly the area where my status bar is on portrait.
On the other end there are the three soft navbar buttons, clearly visible and burnt in to my screen. The status bar is way worse though.
I almost always keep auto-brightness, guess I'll start having more from now on to avoid further damage...

Keep in mind that the display phones are on from open to close. Also that's even if they turn them off after closing. So I wouldn't be surprised if the screen has burned in.
Leave your TV on for 12 hours straight 7 days a week and I'm sure it will start to burn in.
