Live TV on Your Tablet? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Considering jumping back into the tablet game was wondering what you guys use to watch live tv on your tabs. I was considering getting sling box as well but that kind of bumps my total price up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think you could do something with VLC, but then changing channels would be a bit awkward.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that. I'm willing to pay for it. I've been reading up on it and the slingbox seems like a good idea. I've just never used one before.

andtv (andtv.org) provides a vlc-based solution.
It is not perfect, but free.. at it works.. for dvb-t

Or you can try filmon.com, but it's not free and I don't know if they have the channels you want.

it's not free or live, but Droid TV is awesome. Its in the market.

I have a SlingBox classic (original lego-like silver thing) and it streams very nicely to my TF. In fact, whilst recently on holiday in Finland I was able to keep up with all the UK TV I was recording on my Virgin V+HD box via the Slingbox also, meaning no huuuge sessions watching 2 weeks of Corrie and Eastenders when I got home
Sling mobile app is pretty good, works nicely on HC (also have it on my Desire phone) and all-in-all a great setup, especially considering the 'Classic' is supposedly not supported by the App !

Sounds awesome. I think I'm going to go the slingbox route, in addition to the hardware the app is $30, geesh.

I'll try to.

Im using the Dish Sling Adapter and player. Even though the free dish app is for phone devices it looks great on the transformer as well.

I have two HD TV's . I hardly want to watch it on my TF....but...I Splashtop to my laptop which has a USB Digital HD adapter if I get a hankering for live TV. I have thought of a slingbox but I just don't travel that much to make it worth the cost and I like catching up on my Showtime when back home.

Google TV

So I was just curious if anyone was going to develop for the new Google TV getting ready to get released? I definitely want to get one.
Also, will it work like the cell phones? Will it be possible to tweak your tv or add custom settings anything? I don't know much about it, but I was curious.
This is the first time hear about Google TV
Yes, you can either buy the stand alone box or the Sony TV with it built in.

I read that you will be able to control your Google TV set or box or whatever with your Android handset or iPhone.
Yup, they are supposed to simultaneously release the remote control app and the TV.

I got the logitech box today. Pretty sucky documentaion other than getting the thing hooked to the tv. I've been poking around in it for an hour or so. Im digging it I must say, and it has alot of potential. I just think they should have released the market at the same time with it.

Stopped into Best Buy before work and picked up the Logitech unit.
Connected it to the DISH box.
And there is a fee to use DISH with Google TV.
Will play around with it some more after work...
How much are the boxes? And how much is the Sony TV?

Yeah I think we all do, but I guess the problem is probably that currently it doesn't live up to the requirements for being a *real* Android device (no GPS for instance).
And if Google were starting to make exceptions to the requirements for their own sake, it might very all make a lot of producers angry, all asking why they couldn't have an exception as well.
For 2.3 (or 3.0) they could write a different set of rules.
Hi
does anybody know if the logitech revue will work in australia with a simple power adapter or will it require something more
and will it work with Austar (pay tv service) or will it need support like dish network?
i refuse to wait the extra 3 months for the aussie release, cause apparently Oz is still a third world country
Thanks

TV out via cables?

Does the MyTouch 4G have a TV out via RCA cables? I realize its not included but does it have the ability of it built in like the Vibrant does?
I checked my settings and have not found a tv-out setting to enable like my old vibrant. It does have a new media sharing app that is supposedly going to link up via connected WiFi pods. I haven't messed with it too much.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You can share whats on your phone via a wifi network and the "Screen Share" app that is powered by "Twonky"
This is one feature I have been really hoping for so that I could play my gensoid/snesoid games on any TV with RCA inputs. It's one feature that I haven't had on my Nexus One.
Can anyone confirm that that it either IS or IS NOT possible to have wired video output on a MyTouch 4G through either the mini-USB port (like Droid Incredible) or the 3.5mm jack (like the Vibrant) ?
That kind of sucks, didnt use it much on the vibrant but it was nice to have, not every tv is capable of the wifi sharing but every tv has an rca input

I don't understand why you want to put HD Video on a Tv with RCA jacks. I used DLNA network share on my Droid X. Never once wasted my time with a cable. I have since moved to T-Mo and will be getting the MT 4G on launch day.

I just read a review on chipchick.com that says:
"All in all, the MyTouch 4G display is not quite the best display out there on a smartphone, but it’s still excellent and easy on the eyes. T-Mobile also offers a $14.99 accessory that lets you connect the MyTouch 4G to a TV display via component input. This is a neat feature to have, although we wish it would have been HDMI."
This article says that it DOES support video out, via a component cable that T-mobile sells. Is the article wrong?
ok, at this point I've actually BOUGHT the phone, and I still don't know the answer for sure. The tmobile people have no clue either way.
the article I listed above says it DOES do video out, with a cable from tmobile. Can anyone prove or disprove this?
any word?

Yeah, it works great. I'm pretty sure there are already youtube videos showing it done. I've done it, but was awhile ago and I forgot where the tv out enable is in the operating system..

U-Verse Live TV

Question, this app freezes while updating and judging by the comments in the reviews of the app in the marketplace, a few other people are having the same issue. I was told by an ATT rep that you had to have U-verse at home in order to use this app. But on ATT.com, theres a separate package specifically for the phone that's 9.99. I'm getting two different answers and no solution. Does anyone know for sure?
Yeah pretty much 7 days free, then 9.99 a month to use the app.
the funny thing is that my backflip had a "Mobile Video" app i think and it would be able to watch videos on there like full disney shows some clips Spongebob and what not.
not it doesnt come preloaded on any new android device try to call in about that.
You can buy a used slingbox for ~$70, then the slingplayer app is $30.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000IVDTSG
Well worth it especially if you have a dvr, since then you can watch all your recorded tv. Works excellent over the air and I'm in Philly getting nowhere near full 4g yet.

[Q] Gamepad solutions?

Since the Infuse has a beautiful 4.5" screen I figured it'd be perfect for emulators. While they seem to run very nicely, I know that i'm not the only one who completely HATES touch screen controls.
1) They're not super responsive
2) Your hand covers part of what you're playing, sometimes interfering
So has anyone found/come up with a solution for the Infuse that solves this problem?
I understand that the WiiMote apparently doesn't work on Samsung/HTC phones due to their bluetooth stack. I don't really care what the solution is, but has anyone found ANYTHING that is actually working for the Infuse yet?
Yes, I've researched the internet, both Google and XDA, and i've yet to see one instance of anything that works.
Wiimote that's funny, even though in works in some smartphone, I find it very weird if you're an adult. Just saying.
But anyway I think you need this, not a wii mote.

Your posts typically don't make sense anyways... "just saying"
I'm 24 and don't know many guys my age that don't enjoy starting up an emulator to play an old classic once in a while.
I would venture to guess that you are in the minority if you don't play games/emulators on your phone every once in a while.
I'm interested in any solutions you guys may find to this. I came from the Atrix and used my wiimote + classic controller a great deal. Not having it has stalled my emu gaming on my phone for the time being.
I do play games but I can't imagine playing games in Starbucks or some place where people can see you looking at the Infuse 4g screen and holding a wii remote!
I am just saying my take on this okay relax.

I've been back here a couple of times, but I didn't want to dignify your original answer for a response. While I appreciate the links you've provided, your idea that a "Wiimote" is not something very "adult" is asinine.
Studies show that the average age of a person who plays the Wii is 29 [LINK]
In fact, it's pretty much the opposite if you ask me... for some of us, emulators are the only way that we can play the games that we grew up playing. For example, my SNES broke about 3 years ago. I still own about 45-50 SNES games, but no way to play them, and I truly don't want to invest anything more than I have to for a system that will more than likely break, seeing as how nearly every SNES in existence is nearly 18 or so years old.
Do I understand that your idea that sitting at a Starbucks, playing an emulator with a Wiimote is "childish" looking? Sort of, but usually it draws attention in a positive manner when people see me playing games like FF on my Smartphone. They think it's kind of "cool" (not just children).
Again, I do appreciate the links you provided me, and I will definitely look into those as an option.
Lol......i agree with both of you..tech. Is fun,,and can be very dangerous to mankind..but for now its still fun to mess with that is until its used upon people wanting liberty and freedom...go to the market and download sniper vs sniper..i wanna shoot your assr
How about a reply to the question. There is an app on the market for bluetooth controllers. Search bluez ime. It supports zeemote, msi bgp-100, and icontrolpad. Look on amazon for the controllers. I have a bgp-100 works with FPSE which I highly reccomend from market. Icontrolpad would be the best option for emulators but it has a nasty price tag. If the silly ranting banter between people doesn't stop I will request the mod suspends posting for those that are not helpful on these forums. I hope this info helps you. PM me if you have any trouble.

Thanks for the response!
I would actually have no problem dropping $75 on the icontrolpad if i could just guarantee that it would work/fit my phone, but from what I understand it doesn't fit the larger screens.
I thought about buying the zeemote because it's very pocketable, but I don't know how good it would be with only one handed control, I don't think my years of game playing would allow that for games like NCAA for SNES.
I've also looked into the MSI controller, that's what i've been leaning towards. My only concern with that is that I have large hands, and I don't know how well I'd be able to grip it.
this may be a bit off topic as I am interested in finding a good controller as well since I also came from the atrix and loved the wiimote deal. What emulators are you currently using, the ones I paid for are gone. I see a bunch of new ones but hope you might give me some insight as to what you use. I will also continue to look for options and if I find anything of value I will be sure to post.
Go to youtube and try to find a video of a guy modding the MSI controller. I believe he removed the internals and inserted them into an old SNES controller. Also, if you choose to try the icontrolpad, you don't have to mount your device in it, you can use it just like you would the MSI controller. Hurry, icontrolpad is on sale for $50, sale ends today supposedly! FPSE is the best emulator in my opinion.
Waiting for a good solution..

Wiimotes and sixaxiscontroller will only work with CM7 and derivatives (like MIUI). Not with anything Samsung-derived.
If you can deal with a few bugs and want all the cool features of a pure Google experience and want to use wiimotes then CM7 is recommended.

well i just bought this. I dont know when it'll come in but according to all reviews and information this is a gem.
- based off of ps3 controller (looks like they just stole the ps3 controller and modded it)
- runs on regular samsung/htc stock firmware (no need to root or change anything)
- FPSE support, old emulator support (snesoid, gensoid, etc)
Description from their own website below:
They are using the standard Bluetooth protocol RFCOMM which unlike the L2CAP protocol (which is used by Playstation 3 controllers for instance) can be used in theory with any mobilephone that supports Bluetooth. This means that even Samsung and HTC devices running their stock rom support Phonejoys.
Furthermore no root is required. To use Phonejoy all you need is to download "Bluez-IME" from the Android app market or go to the developer site here.
The gamepad comes with the standard 14 Buttons (D-PAD, Select, Start, Cross, Triangle, Square, Circle, L1, R1, L2, R2) just like the original Playstation controller. The Phonejoy response without any noticeable delay, and range can be depending on your device up to 2m / 6ft. Every Phonejoy comes with an internal Lithium-ion battery which can be charged through the supplied miniUSB cable. The battery usually lasts several days of moderate gaming.
On top of that the controller is supplied with a stand which can be used to hold your mobile phone. For Tablets we recommend buying a bigger and sturdier stand.
For further setup instructions please head to the "Instructions" page. Bluez-IME allows a gamepad experience with all apps that support Android's Input Method Editor (IME). Working apps include the emulators FPSE, PSX4Droid, SNESoid, Gameboid, GBCoid, NESoid, N64oid, Gearoid, Gensoid, and various Android games such as Zenonia I, Zenonia II, Samurai II: Vengeance and Illusia. Bluez-IME can also emulate Xperia Play's gamepad controls which should grant Phonejoy access for more than 150 Xperia Play supported games.

[Q] Tablet for twin toddlers!!

So yes; I have two 2 year olds and they've begun learning to navigate my wife and my android phones. (My daughter can get to Netflix and start watching Cailou on her own! Daddy is so proud!!)
Well, I don't like the fact that she's watching Netflix on such a small screen and I'm hoping to find an inexpensive tablet that has the ability to use Netflix.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Amazon Fire is cheap($200). Really nice for the price with dual-core. You will need to download netflix off the internet, since it has the amazon app store instead of android market. Hope this helps and thank me if it did! Hope u find one ur twins enjoy!
