I am used to transferring data to my SD card by connecting the phone to my computer by USB and mounting it.
This suddenly has failed, and it looks like the problem is that there are apps running from the SD card. That is not surprising since I most my apps to SD because of the limited internal storage on this phone.
If its really an app or two thats causing the problem, how do I identify them so I can move then back to internal?
I have yet to have any space issues after deleting the fota files. Try using link2sd instead of apps2sd

Others have had this issue in the past and last I checked that setting does not exist on the Nexus S. I assume it was programmed that way because they assumed you wouldn't need to unmount the SD card.
yeah I just checked, its not there. a reboot fixed it though. I'm not sure what happened

I think a reboot is just the best answer, but you could probably remount it with the mount command via the terminal without a reboot.
I'd be concerned, as you are, about why it dismounted in the first place.
I am unable to view any of my files on my sd card no matter what file explorer i use. Any body know a fix?
I have the 32gb 3g xoom.

Can you see the contents of your SD card from a computer? Are you on a rooted device? Are you using a rom? Are you using a kernel? What version of CWM are you on, if you have it?

I can only see the files the system creates. I cannot view any of my personal files. No i am not rooted.

Sometimes it is the sdcard...if you have an android phone, can you see your files in the phone? You can try a different card or you can try to format that card in an android phone (saving your files elsewhere 1st, of course), or you can try to use a utility on your computer, I think it's a Panasonic formater (you could do a search on formating micro sdcards for use in the Xoom here in these fora).
Good luck!
Hi. I just installed CM 7.1 on my G2x and for some reason it's not detecting the internal SD card. Is there some thing I need to do to fix this?

It's at /mnt/ennc
Weird place for it IMO, but I'm sure there's a way to change it.
Aha. So it is. Unfortunately apps like the gallery and camera are saying I have no SD card. Is there a way to mount it so it's detected properly?

Yes there is. CM7 has a setting for swapping the mount points of the internal and external sdcards. I am not running cm7 currently though and can't remember where the setting is. After you change the setting, reboot for everything to mount properly. Ask over in the cm7 thread where the setting is or hopefully someone else will comment here.
The other solution would be to get an external sdcard for your phone. In my opinion that's the better solution but it also costs money so ...
Thanks for the replies. For right now I restored the stock ROM. There were a few things I didn't like about CM but I'll probably flash it again when I have more free time to mess with it.

I'm wanting to test out another rom, but for some reason I cannot back up my existing rom in cwm. I'm currently on CM7.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I choose backup existing rom, then shows the little android guy but there's the huge exclamation mark next to it. No clue what's going on. Never had this problem before.

Hold power and both buttons on the volume rocker until the phone reboots. When you see the Samsung logo, let go of power, but keep holding the rocker down. This boots you into recovery.

Just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Well still no luck. After the back up says complete, this is the log info.
No/sdcard/.android_secure found.
Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd - ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext
Generating md5 sum...
Backup complete.
so I reboot the phone after that, went into cwm and there's no backup from the back up list. :/

Even the internal storage is pretty much open. I have no music/videos/anything. Maybe a couple apps and that's about it.

Have you recently tried to move any files between your SD card and PC? Sometimes cards can become corrupted, or certain files at least can also become bad and not read. The more you mount and unmount the more degraded it gets. If you tried to delete any files, did you accidentally delete something from your internal SD?
Not that I'm aware of. When I get home ill try transferring a small file over. As far as the internal SD card its fine.

Nothing at all? Sigh. I really wish I could find a solution to this.
I guess ill try out Odin to put it back to stock and then root and unlock it. I just hate the fact I can't back up anything.

It won't mount I am rooted running MajickXperianceR3
I had this problem I just mounted in recovery to move files. Seems faster anyway....don't forget to safely remove before unmounting...
