[Q] how do I stop it to vibrate when calling - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched in the forum but I didn't find the answer,
well I have a nexus S with CM nightlies 512, but when I used the CM 7.0.2 it did the same I don't remenber if the stock did that.
What happen is the when I make a call everytime my face or my fingers touch the screen it vibrates and I freaking hate it, because I keep switching sides when talking or simply move the phone away and then it vibrates.
I tryed turning the touch feedback in the call app and it didnt work, then I turned all the vibrations in the sound settings, but then when I click in the notification buttons they don't vibrate either(its weird).
Is there a way to make it stop vibrating during a call but still make the notification buttons vibrate?
thanks

have you checked your call settings? not under cm settings. maybe its something in there..

Haptic feedback perhaps? Options in Settings>>Sound and in the dialer under Preferences.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

alright, but if I go into the settings and turn the Haptic feedback off, the notification buttons won't vibrate either and that doesnt fell good, and if I turn the Haptic feedback on the call app it just wont work, I think it might be an issue of the rom idk

there are 3 different places you can find haptic or vibrate during call setting.. 3 or 4.. depends on mod i guess.
1. preferences in dialer. the 1 u been messing with
2. settings->sound
3. settings->call ... different than dialer preferences
4. i use go sms.. there is an option there for vibrate during call for texts..
i dunno.. thats all i can think of dude.

I have tried all the dialer prefs, sound settings, call settings, all haptic places I can find, and still I get 4 vibrates during dialing, after pick up I get a few, and at hangup a couple more. In addition, during the call, anytime I move the phone it does two vibrates. I tried a few dummy calls to my home voicemail, and every time I shake the phone a little (during the call) it vibrates twice. My friends are also massively annoyed by the noise, which makes me boil over. Its been doing this with every rom I've run in the past month or so. It never had this problem in the past. So may it be a bug in one of my updated apps, or perhaps in cyanogen 7?
Eris with Macrom glass 3 1.8. Also happened with various GSB roms too- but only in the recent month or two. HELP

If not, CyanogenMod settings > Sound > Under General, deselect Vibrate during calls

Same here
I am using a INC. Same thing was driving me nuts all day. Found it was the profile was set to night. Changed it to default, all is good now.

Just change the profile to default . hope this fixes your problem

Unexplained volume drop to zero

This is the kinda &@#^%$# that makes me want to go back to the simplest freaking phone I can find. I really can't stand this [email protected]#$!!!
I haven't touched my phone all night. Using the HTC Home plugin, as I always do, I had the setting on "Ringtone: Ring-Standard". The only time I change it from this setting is at work, I set it to vibrate, and before I go to bed, I set it to silent. In the morning, I set it back to vibrate and go to work and repeat the cycle.
The phone sat on the kitchen counter all evening while I made dinner. I didn't TOUCH the volume setting, yet I still missed an important phone call because the ringer inexplicably set itself to silent. Not the silent setting, mind you... but just the ringer itself.
WHY!!?????

I've had this problem too a few times.
Perhaps I should look into it a bit more, because missing phone calls isn't exactly what I want...
Perhaps it has something to do with the scroll-wheel. Or perhaps when a button is pressed, it mutes the sound.
I'll post my findings when I know what causes this.
Well, it's happened three times now. I just check every few hours now. Can't find a reason why it might be happening, but in defense of WM6 fancy new phones, it's only happened since switching to the Dutty #7.
I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe we'll figure it out.
I've had this as well. I get it about once every 5 times I switch from vibrate to non-vibrate using a profile switcher.
It is quite annoying. I find myself checking the volume everytime I switch profiles back to making sound.
I had it on the stock ROM as well.
Same problem here too!!
No solution here but another "me too". I use the Comm Manager ("Kaiser.CommManager.10Button.3GCAB.cab") to switch between Vibrate and Ring and every once in a while I get this same behavior.
AT&T Tilt
Dutty's No. 7b
Hope we can find a fix for this...

I have this problem too from time to time. I have a HTC Tytn II and am still on the stock ROM. It's probably a bug in the HTC Home audio profile app, because I do use it to switch between vibrate and normal modes.
I've also had exactly the same problem. I can't replicate it 100%, at the moment it does seem to be random, but I have noticed it particularly when changing from vibrate to normal ring using the HTC today screen plugin. I've missed a couple of calls before I got wise to this. I check the volume icon at the top now but agree it's a pain.

I will confirm that this seems to be related to running HTC Home. I removed it a few weeks ago and have been using SPB Pocket Plus and SPB Time for my home screen plugins.
I use the comm manager to now switch from Vibrate to Ringer and have not had this issue yet.
Edit - I use the 6 button comm manager and Custel 2.1 rom.
Now that you mention it, I've been using a profiles program too recently and have not experienced the dropdown in volume anymore.
We're still not sure, but perhaps you're pointing in the right direction...
I had this problem with original ROM. But not with dutty's roms.
This is also happening to me with botm Dutty's 3/08 and 3/27 roms.
The other day I was just sitting and looking at my phone and the ringer icon changed to silent right in front of me!
I'm going to try using the comm manager to change rings, and see if it happens again.
I'm using Q-Mobile 1.2 now. It doesn't happen any more.
I only had the problem with Dutty ROMs....
I still got the HTC initial ROM and I also experience this problem...
Mine does the same
I have the same problem. I use HTC home to set the profile to vibrate. I do use a bluetooth headset and I've noticed many times after hanging up that the profile has changed to silent (both volumes are at 0).
Ok, i had this problem with Dutty's Rom, but since i start using wisbar and its profile swithing feature, i've never seen it again...
It seems that this relates with the problem of during calls the other end user complains for low volume. It seems that the mic automatically lowers sound and most probably is a hardware problem. I have sent mine for a mic replacement. I will inform you as soon as i get it back.
I'm able to reproduce the problem with Dutty's WM6.1 and Bluetooth hands-free. Having mobile set to vibrate (using HTC Home) I connect the hands-free (Parrot) and make a phone call. After hanging up the mobile switches to ringing with zero volume.
Any connection to BTAudioToggle?
I also have problems when using bluetooth, it seems like sometimes your problem happens to mine and others it doesn't.
I have had this problem for a long time using dutty's rom also and bt headset. I think it has something to do with voice command maybe i am not sure. I have HTC home disabled i just use spb pocket plus and spb mobile shell. And i also sometimes loose sound completely due to this switching and i have to soft reset my phone to get it back. I have tried different radios but the same happens.

OldSAP Speakerphone

On my HTC P3300 Artemis I had this great software.
OldSAP Speakerphone.
* Auto answer function
* Auto speakerphone to handsfree
I tried it on my MDA V aka Diamond2 but it does not work.
When recieving a cal, or calling somebody, the speakerphone does not switch to handsfree mode automaticly.
Does anybody knows the answer on this?
Go to "Settings" -> Personal -> Phone -> more
There you can switch on "auto receive" or whatever it's called on a WWE Rom^^ Don't know if the speaker is turned on too... never tested it

After installing the software all seems fine.
When incomming voice message comes the speaker is set to handsfree.
BUT, when sliding the slider to answer call position the speaker is set to off, automaticlly
Maybee OldSAP has an answer?

Seems these people have already, partially, the sollution.
But I do not need all these fancy things.
Only the selection to turn the speakerphone, automaticly, ON or OFF during in or outgoing calls is enough.
umm, you do know that you just need to press the receiver button during the call to put it on speakerphone, don't you?

Luckely I'm not that Stupid.
The thing is that during driving in a car I would like the phone, like OldSap already had, to answer automaticly and in speaker mode so you do NOT have to push the recieve button for app. 2 seconds.
Try this small piece of software I wrote, it works fine on my Topaz. It only answers calls though and puts them on speakerphone. Start "Answer4u" from programs folder, then wait for a call or click on "Switch off" Button to temporarily disable auto-answering the calls..
Don't say anything about the UI, I wrote this in a few minutes
Let me know...

Just tried it and the program now work partially.
* When I call someone the speaker function works perfect.
* When I recieve a phonecall the speaker is switch one for about 0.5 seconds and then automaticly is switched off again.
If this last bug can be solved a lot of people will be very happy, for sure I will be.!!!!
same for me.
TinTin app works perfectly, the only thing I miss is the option to set the delay before the call is answered. Now the call is answeed immediately and you have no chance to notice whoi is the caller. Otherwise it would be just perfect.

[Q] End of call phone behavior

Hello,
Has anyone found a way to change the Samsung Galaxy S III behavior at the end of a call? Mine typically reverts the phone to a locked state, which is pretty annoying when you were just on a short call and need to make another call. Am I missing a setting? I would think being on a call would appear as any other activity, unless maybe you are on a call that exceeds the timeout you have set for lock security.
Thanks!
That's actually been the behavior I'm used to from my Incredible when taking a call when already locked or the timeout occurs when I haven't input anything to the phone for too long during a call, so it seemed the same for the Galaxy S III.
- ooofest
I've been using on call end from the play store. Im having a problem where at the end of a call it lags and shows the persons picture with a text message button on the bottom and a phone to recall them and it was getting quite annoying so now I just have it go straight to home

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have to give On Call End a try.
I'm pretty sure I've experienced this situation even on outgoing calls. I was hoping there was a secret setting somewhere. I was used to my Droid 2 where the phone would go back to the screen you were on right before you made your call....i.e., if you made a call from your Favorites screen, it would go back to that screen. I'd really like to have that type of functionality, but maybe it's not possible. I'm guessing this is more a function of Touch Wiz than ICS, right?
Thanks again!
I've never had it go to lock screen after a call, but it's never been locked when I recieved one. I am assuming it started locked before the call came in?
Typically I end up back in whatever I was doing on call end, though sometimes it just aggravatingly sits at the dialer screen and forces me to manually go back to what I was doing before the call interrupted me.
If I initiate the call, 100% of the time it dumps me to the dialer screen when the call is over.
Stock rom, rooted.

I just have on call end take me to my homescreen because otherwise ill get this screen if I dont after I end a call and then I can wait a few seconds for it to go away or I can push back which is annoying.

Do any of the ROMS change this behavior or give you more options for controlling it? The On End Call seems a little better to me, but I'd still like to go back to screen I was actually on before.

No Notification LED for Outlook Emails (OOS 5.1.8)

Using Outlook for Android official Microsoft app, not getting any notification LED lights when I have new emails or reminders. I get the screen off messages coming through on the display, but those only show up for like 5 seconds at a time. With Gmail and other apps, I get those and the notification LED to light up. My settings for LED notifications are normal, and Outlook should be showing, but it isn't working.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? I'd rather not get some 3rd party LED manager app for one application issue, but I am willing to try.
Saw one other thread on this, but I don't want to factory reset right now. Too much important emails and stuff going on at work to risk the pain of setup again. I also seem to have an issue with notification volume being really loud for Outlook.

Did you ever get an answer? I had to switch over to the Outlook app for work and was having issues as well.
Found some very important things:
LED notifications were disabled in Outlook notification preferences
You need to click on "Event Reminders" and "Mail" (not toggle buttons) in order to see LED notification option to enable (have no idea why it's disabled by default)
You ALSO need to make sure notification sounds are set inside Outlook (I think this issue is Android related)
I set the notification preferences for reminders and emails to be the SYSTEM DEFAULT and after these changes above, LED notifications work for my reminders and emails
Let me know if you want some screenshots! (I'm on OnePlus 5T w/crDroid)

Hmm. I don't see those advanced options in my version 2.2.200. I'll probably root this phone eventually and wipe it clean and start over with either the stock rom + custom kernel or a custom rom/kernel. Maybe that will fix it.
Surely you should try a 3rd party app before wiping and starting over - get lightflow it works great and will get your LED working as you want for any app youd like.

How do I turn off audible notifications for email and messages?

I've been playing with the phone since yesterday, but I keep on getting all these loud notifications and can't figure how to stop them. The phone is in the OEM LED wallet case.
For email, I just go into my email app (I use Gmail) and under alert tone I just select none. As for text notifications, not sure, without turning off system notifications all together. Maybe select a different, less irritating alert tone in the system settings?
Thanks,
I found Manage Notifications for each email account and selected Silent for the Gmail account. Gonna check on messages now.
I have my work email set to vibrate only. So I set the notification suond to silent. It's an option when you're choosing the notification sound. That's the easiest way.
That way you still keep the notification etc, but it stays silent.
This phone is driving me crazy. I'm coming from the Note 9 which only gave audible notifications when the phone rang. Now I'm getting sounds for all different apps. It is distracting and annoying. Samsung should have put in one setting to turn off all audible notifications except for phone calls. The interruptions out of this phone make it unsuitable as a business device.

Why not just turn the notification volume down if you don't want to hear them? That's what a volume slider is for isn't it?
I think also if you set the default notification to "none" that will take care of 95% of apps. Only ones that wl still have a sound are ones that provide their own notification sound, like eBay or Facebook.
I've just figured out how to do this today and it's actually really simple lol, seemed to get rid of all audio for notifications. Go into Settings > Ringtone > Sound and Vibration and then to notification sound, choose the sim and scroll to the top for Silent.

Just change the notification sound for each app. The ones you want to be silent, just set the notification tone for those apps to silent. Some apps have the settings in the app. But you can find all notifications in Settings > Notifications > tap "See all" > then change the drop down menu from "Most recent" to "All".
Then in the list you can find the apps you want to change the notification sounds for.
Folks, Thanks everyone for your help. Following your advice I was able to mute everything except for the phone call ring. I went to the following:
Settings
Sounds and Vibration
Volume
Notifications
Then I just reduced the volume there and all is well.
These tips are all fine and dandy, but i'm getting notification alerts when my phone simply rotates from portrait to landscape, answering and completing phone calls, opening and closing ANY app, etc etc. I'm also coming from a Note 9, and none of this garbage occured on that one. Only difference between my 9 and 20 ultra (aside from the model), is that my 9 is a factory purchase and my 20 from Verizon.
As an afterthought, since I use a bluetooth device, is there a way to have an audible alert on both the phone AND BT device? I can apparently only choose one or the other with this new UI. If I choose the phone, no notification sounds come through the BT headset, and if I choose the BT, no audible notifications come through the phone (oddly, 'some' notifications come through my watch, but not always?).
Again, none of these issues were present in my Note 9. I wonder if there's a way to transfer system notification settings from my 9 to 20....
