I have the Nexus S and recently, I came under the suspicion that my Gmail was hacked. So I went on my computer and changed my Gmail password. But now, my phone has become a wreck. It cannot sync with my gmail, I can't even access the Market. I cannot seem to find a way to change the password on the phone to my current password for Gmail. Is there any way to do this without deleting the main account on the phone? I really do not want to reset my phone for simply needing to change my password...
Not to be a fun sponge but since its your primary device account you may be out of luck.

I would recommend using mybackup root to backup your call log, mms, sms (texts) and titanium backup root to backup your apps. Makes the reset hurt way less

I guess that's my only option. Can't believe Google has made it this much of a hassle for a simple password change. Thanks man.
No no dont hard reset for such an easy stuff!
Just pop in another sim card and for privacy the password will be removed, then insert the right one

If your phone is cdma and you cannot switch the sim card, you can just delete the gmail account settings from the application manager (i dont remember the english name), anyway, wiping for something like that, is like throwing an atomic bomb to kill mosquitoes

It won't let you delete the primary device account even if you have another gmail account attached. :-(

I am not sure in gingerbread, but in previous version was possible to let the system forget the account by just removing user data for something like "gmail archive" (not sure about english name)
And if you change the sim card, you have to reinsert the password, happened many times to me, annoying

Hey I just rooted my gf's Inspire using the GUI method and everything went flawlessly. Still waiting till more devs get in on this phone because I have an Evo and there is a great deal more development (of course because it's been out for much longer). Anyways, does anybody know the .apk name for the Learn More app so I can delete it through RootExplorer. It is completely useless. Once that question is answered then this thread can be deleted.
bump. Also stupid question but is there no front facing camera on this phone? Also I accidentally have it so every contact is syncing to google twice. Under every contact when you go to link it shows up google twice. Is there any way to fix this.
Well i know you cant remove an account from.gtalk without wiping the phone. Any chance you put same acct. In twice?

No what actually happened is a synced her google account which has all of her numbers and then I accidentally imported all her number from her sim to google so they were syncing both for some reason. I reset the phone and now the google contacts won't sync. I'm going to try some things and see if I can get everything working. But do you know the .apk name for Learn More?
Quick fix for the contacts us to go to Google contacts on the computer and use their dedupe toil in the top tool bar.

Thanks, I still can't find the .apk name for the Learn More app and I desperately want to delete it for her cause she keeps nagging about it. However I did get the google contacs fixed and everything is up and running. Now if only someone would tackle an SBC, undervolted kernel to attack this terrible battery life.
I had forgotten how annoying this feature was with a rooted INC, but now the VZW guy set this up on my new phone...We have google to back up our contacts, we don't need VZW doing it too, let alone daily....Can I turn this off?
Check in Menu > Settings > Account & sync
You can always wipe the phone... then skip through the VZ backup at setup... If you're going to root you'll end up wiping anyways... I always skip through that because like you said... Google already backs up what I need so why do I need VZW doing it as well?
yeah, just skip thru the VZW backup assistant screen during initial setup. if you want to prevent it from running in the background, freeze it with titanium backup or bloat freezer
you can also freeze it with titanium backup
As I read this, I also want to know if I can remove this backup assistant? Seems like a waste since Google already backs up your contacts to your gmail account.
On a related note, is this service from Verizon free?

Yeah it's free. And if you're rooted you can remove it. It's not even in Das BAMF which is nice. There is no use for it unless you're coming from a non-android phone and your contacts are saved with Verizon and you want to restore them. But after that you'd have no reason to use it.
you can proly remove it without adverse effects, but i froze it just in case i needed it later. it's a good idea to freeze apps before uninstalling completely. that way you still have access to them if necessary, which is much quicker & easier than reflashing a rom
as far as i know, it is a free service. however, verizon is notorious for adding bogus charges to your monthly bill. so if you choose to use the service, keep an eye on your bill
It is free if you have an account on the VZW website, otherwise I think it's $2.99 a month.

If your rooted, delete it. Remove both apk's from the /system/app folder. First thing I do. Absolutely no need for it.

Only perk I see to it is Google never backs all my contacts up. Don't know why, so I still use backup assistant.

Make sure the drop arrow on the top when you add a contact is set to Google. It is set to phone by default. After you set it the contacts that are added with sync with Google.

Nope. Not unless you intentionally format sdcard from the settings or in recovery
Here's the thing I saved my friends contacts on the memory card and I can't rstore it ..idk why its saved as 0000.vcf but I can't restore it
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
When you restore it I assume you're doing it from the More>Import/Export>Import from SD card>Phone then it'll start scanning for v card data....right?
Yes that's how I'm doing it ...is it wrong way?
Nope. That's the right way. But another thing is if you're not seeing the contacts show up they might not be set to show up..... just to double check.... Contacts>Menu>View>make sure checkbox next to SIM is marked.... That's the only thing I can think of aside from a buggered up export.
try copying your vcf file to your computer and importing it to outlook. then, sync your phone with outlook contacts and lemme know what you find out.
even easier... go to the market and check out something like vCardIO
because... guess what... yeah, we've got an app for that too, but ours is free.
Just wanted to add gmail backs up contacts as well. I've flashed multiple times not saving and gmail restores all of them everytime. It won't save texts though gotta use a sms backup, nandroid, tb or backup them yourself.
And reflashing won't touch the sd card unless you hit format by mistake which would stink if you were installing a custom rom lol.

Gmail only backs up contacts if you have it set to backup contacts AND save them to your gmail account when you add a new contact to your phone. I have come across more people that don't than do. Mostly the uninformed/first time android users that still think you're supposed to save them to your sim card like back in the old days.
OP: MyBackup Pro is probably the easiest solution to backing up contacts, call logs, bookmarks, dictionary, sms, mms, settings, android home, etc. I use MyBackup Pro for all the mentioned and have it on a schedule to backup each night in case I decide to flash a rom on a whim and TiBackup for my apps/game data even though MyBackup Pro does it too but I just don't like the way it restores them.
Thanks guys buh I figered out the problem.....'y google acoount had a pink sign on sync so theierfore all of my contacts were on my phone (not synced) and I only had 2 contacts on my gmail since sync wasn't functioning properly...any way when I backed up by expoorting I choose to export from google acount which had only two contacts and the rest 219 contacts were on the phone itself unsynced ..any way I wiped without knowing and boom all gone and no backup either....bummmer

You can manually sync them as well. I normally sync up once a week. Find a wifi or use a friends phone to tether. Its worth it I have about 110 contacts myself and more if I sync facebook lol.

tmobile contact backup app from the stock rom may have saved your contacts for you. when i bricked my mt4g i thought i lost all my contacts but when i got the mt4gs that app brought them back automatically
Hey all. I just got done with a full factory restore then I flashed eclipse. Before any of that I backed up with titanium and backup assistant. Now when I got to contacts I only see a portion of what I once had. It seems like the numbers that are not associates with a google account are showing up. Any thoughts?

Have you set up your Google account? Backup assistant and TiBu only backup what's on your phone, not what's on a Google account.
I have. I noticed this ROM uses people in stead of the orange Contacts app.I wonder of that has anything to do with it.

Contacts are stored in your phone/google. Apps like contacts, people, phone, messaging, email etc. just read them.
Ok I am noticing it's only my google contacts and not the ones I saveed to my phone. I guess I didn't back up the right Douglas files

You should never save contacts to your phone anyways... some people just have to learn the hard way.

I would like to know is it possible to backup an apk that requires an account to be able to used with data for example: Pandora,Netflix,Facebook ect... I know all this can be done with titanium. But my question is there some kinda way that I could get the password for whatever apk with data I back up? Let's say I backup "netflix & data" so when I restore it, it will still have the account that I had it with. so I can still watch anything. Is there away that I could get that password from what titanium back up?
