[OSX Users Only / Userscript] DeskSMS with Fluid App Integration - Android Apps and Games

By now I'm sure you guys have heard of Koush's DeskSMS application. If you haven't check it out, it's an awesome app.
So anyway, I'm a heavy user of the app. However, the notifications and the fact that the web client lives inside a browser is unproductive for me. Hence, I decided to run the web client as a Fluid app and created my own userscript for it.
Current feature of the userscript:
- Growl support
- Dock Badge support
- "Ping" sound on Notification
- Note: Due to limitations, the badge can only show unread conversations and not unread messages

How to configure Fluid app for DeskSMS:
I haven't slept for the night so I'm just gonna leave the other forumers to help fill this portion out. It's easy though, so even if you have never used Fluid before, just give it a try
Screenshots: Below

Howdy, any chance you've gotten this to work with the new DeskSMS site?

Would really like to get this working! Fluidapp seems to hang at the "windows.opendatabase" command when loading the Desksms site.

I contacted him a while ago and he told me, that he was working on a native mac app. But I have never heard something since then.

Great userscript! I use DeskSMS all the time, so I'd also love to see an updated version or even a native app.

What goes on mate?
ive been looking up how to get this to work?
Thanks

[APP] Executive Assistant - for anybody whose inc is an office phone too

Holy guacamole! Has anybody else seen or used this app? I am amazed - its spectacular. It is a 1 stop widget for email / calendar / tasks / sms / missed calls / voicemail / facebook / twitter / google reader.
I just downloaded and installed the free version of the app from market and various add-ons and am positively blown away. Will be buying the paid version to get rid of ads when i get home.
I have been searching for something like this for weeks and found a reference on droidforums or something like that. My stupid, stodgy, underpowered, small low res screen, bad browser, no apps, no customization blackberry can now safely be consigned to the trash can! My d-inc will be my new work phone and with this app and the widgets I have absolutely everything I needed.
A few things to note:
1. Set up took a small bit of time for me but once set up properly it is great.
2. Editing any incorrectly entered settings is confusing since the menu button keeps pulling up general phone settings. You have to click inside the widget and then press the menu button to get the app settings. They should make that better.
3. The widget app does not seem to support exchange email - just gmail including google apps and other IMAP/POP accounts such as yahoo, hotmail - you need paid accounts for those last 2 I believe. I guess for my exchange account i will use the htc widget (strangely though the app does support exchange calendars).
4. There are countless settings - spend the time to figure them out. Font size, color, background - way too many things can be changed.
5. I confused myself by using it on the lockscreen - when you switch on the screen, you dont see screen unlock - you just see a summary page of the emails / calendars etc etc. - you have to click the home button to get the slider to unlock your phone.
6. http://www.appventive.com/executive-assistant is the app site but there is not a helluva lot of info there. You are a bit on your own in figuring out the settings etc.
7. I have 2 google emails - 1 personal, 1 office g-app and of course google voice. It did not like that and would not login into all my email and voice till I entered their passwords properly instead of letting the app gather that from the device settings.
8. I have not tested battery drain yet but I suspect it will lead to some since it seems to pull the emails rather than just polling the android apps.
For anybody who wants to use their droids as work related phones - this is by far the best thing I have ever come across.
not that I'm cynical, and it does look interesting, but this post sure sounds like developer pumping his app

hahahahaha. check my other posts - u will see i am a noob tinkering around - not a dev or anything like that - probably sound too excited because i finally got an app which makes my bberry (useless junk i was forced to use since the iphone is bad too) replaceable. am a private equity guy - i know financial statements not java or whatever android is written in.
PS: there is 1 more drawback - if u try to use multiple widgets, 1 setting applies to all. So u cant have 1 widget for SMS/Twitter/Facebook and 1 for email - maybe i am doing something wrong but thats what it seemed like.
Does not support exchange = fail.

triple it, it a deal breaker for me, great idea though. would buy it if it was able to read from the exchange mailbox (i don't want yet another mailbox checking or recieving, its already downloading the email, just read that inbox?)
If anybody can recommend anything better, I would love to try that. I suggested this only because there is nothing better than this out there - at least I have not found any. Even without exchange, there is no consolidated widget for all the things in 1 screen.
I have a JB iphone 4 too and I use lockinfo (cydia app). That's the best implementation of a launchpad for various items (calendar, weather, email, missed calls, sms, voicemail, notifications, tasks, twitter) and so on... So far no such widget/app seen on the android platform. This one is close but as you can see from my comments too, its not perfect.
I have Executive Assistant and I must say it's very useful.. if you're looking for something else that also displays all information you might want to try Slidescreen and Slidescreen Pro. I'm not sure if you can read exchange mail through them but they're very clean and professional looking.. they act as a new home though.
Good find!
Checkin out the free version now, no exchange support isn't an issue for me as I don't use it, but if the rest of the app is solid and the dev has enough of a following, I think it's safe to say that exchange support can be expected down the pipeline (Here's hoping since I know a lot of folks use it!)
OK, bought full version, dude SWEET find! Been looking for something like this!

[Q] A Decent Facebook App???

I've been an Android user for a few months now and I love it so far. The only complaint I have is that there is no good Facebook app (in my opinion), or can someone recommend one? What I don't like about the official app is that it doesn't look that good (not ugly, but not pretty either), there's no instant push notifications and it seems a bit slow to load (I find it faster to just use the website in Dolphin HD browser) So then my question is... Can't someone develop a good app, one with the above features missing from the official app? I know nothing about Android app development so please tell me why or why not... If there's someone out there with the skills to create an app like that, but maybe you don't have time to develop a user interface or something... I'm more than willing to create a user interface that you can use... Anyway, just a thought
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.....Dude I use just facebook for android.....It's just a nice basic requirement but it eats a lot of my net(that my only compaint) Otherwise it's gud.....If ur willing to try out sum more....There is tweetdeck, Social jogger 2,and many more which u can find over here
Hope I helped u ,If so hit thanks
I get what you're saying, but don't you think it could be better. I don't have a big issue with the interface, but the app is lacking some features (like instant push) And Facebook isn't exactly quick with updates. If there's an app developed by a community like XDA, it should be much faster, shouldn't it? I looked at Friendcaster, Seesmic and Tweetdeck and none of those have exactly what I'm looking for. Some lack chat, push notifications etc. Anyway, like I said, was just a thought... would be nice to have a good, all-in-one solution for Facebook
You could have a look at FriendCaster. It used to be called Flow before Handcent bought it and changed it's name to match TweetCaster, their twitter app.
I like the the facebook, but I agree it would be nice if there were something better.
the facebook app has been my complaint since I started using Android...
I use friendcaster pro and it gets the job done for me.

Friendcaster Pro here too which consumes less data as compared to official facebook apps.
FriendCaster seems like a good alternative to the official app, but it's still missing features like Instant push notifications and chat. And personally I prefer the official app's interface over friendcasters', though functionality comes first for me. I know you can configure friendcaster to use GMail for facebook notifications, but unfortunately gmail is giving me problems. The periodic polling option isn't very attractive either, draining the battery and such. I probably should add that I used the free version (ADS )

[APP][4.0+] CloudTalk, a holo tablet SMS app - beta testers needed

I've been working on a tablet messaging app which uses the stock android messaging app as a base. Only supports Android 4.0+
Screenshots:
http://imgur.com/a/48qqg
"Why should I use this instead of <other app>?"
Because holo. The only reason I started making this was because I like my apps to be holo. I think it works pretty well at sending sms too though.
I've got the core functionality up and running and I'd like to test it's compatibility with a variety of devices. I also need to evaluate the load on my server when it's not just me using it. So if you'd like to try it out, download the apk here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4YTi8GZtAWAV0ViTmFNdW5iamM
Install it on your phone and your tablet, make sure both have internet and click register. That should be enough to get it going. The app works by using Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) to push messages between your phone and tablet so as long as both devices are connected to the internet, it should work. Your messages aren't stored anywhere on the server, they are just sent to GCM servers to get pushed to your phone/tablet.
It can sync notifications on android 4.3+ but the messages do not get marked as read. This is because android 4.4 doesn't allow access to the sms database unless you're the default app. It could work for 4.3 and below but I'm not keen on a feature that'll be deprecated moving forward
No mms support yet. Depending on demand, I may implement it (I've never sent an mms myself though)
Keep in mind that this will eventually be a paid app. This beta apk will eventually stop working so don't rely on it. I'll probably give it a few weeks at least
I can provide a permissions breakdown if desired but I think they're straightforward for the most part (except maybe disable screen lock, that's for the wake and unlock option for quick reply)
----------------------------------------
If you do try it out, I would much appreciate any feedback such as:
* Did it work as you expected?
* Could the functionality be clearer? Were you confused on how to use certain features?
* How reliable was it?
* What additional functionality could it have?
* Anything else!
not sure you if you got my messeages.. but it worked on 2 phones.. my problem its only a one way interaction so far. from "tablet" I can't sent messages as the "phone" user.. but when I send a message to "phone" the "tablet" client get the message but response is not sent
Note: wow!! as soon as I finished typing this messages came in.. so there is about ohhhh I don't know 10-15min delay
also prolly just not implemented yet.. but theme isn't changing..

Fully featured 3rd party Twitter app?

I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible and get to the point..
tL:dR = red
I'm looking for a fully featured 3rd party twitter app much like Falcon Pro was back in the day..
I've tried nearly all of them, I've even purchased some that I became very disappointed.
I need an app that notifies me on mentions, DM's, people who follow me, people who retweet me and favorite my tweets as well.. Much like the official one does. I love the official one but:
-Official -- Doesnt notify me anymore for some reason. I've tried all the fixes, nothing works.
-Falcon Pro -- Cant sign in anymore. Gives me the 'date and time setting' error.. Even created a twitter app that the dev says to do to bypass that,, Didnt work either.
-Tweetings -- The best one so far.. Hate the layout tho.. too crowded for my taste when i add more than one account. And the notifications, when upon clicked, (i.e. people who favorite me, and/or retweet me) doesnt take me to the 'tweet' that i posted. Once I click that notification, it just goes away. I would like to go back thru my mentions and 'see' what tweets of mine got favorited and/or retweeted.. If that makes sense.. Tweetings doesnt allow that.
-All other apps that I've tried have splendid ui's but lack the option of push notifications such as who have favorited my tweets and who retweeted my tweets... When people mention me, of course that notifies me, but no other notifications =/
Like I said, the official one was perfect after Falcon pro when bye bye, but it doesnt notify me anymore (been going on for almost a year now).. Falcon pro was my go to! LOVED that thing.. But no longer works for me either
Anybody recommend an app that I may not have tried yet that incorporates my wants..??
I would suggest Carbon for Twitter, however they're having issues with Authentication tokens for new users. I'd have a look at the apps in the play store tbh, I used to use TwitBird it pretty much caters your needs.

[APP][3.2+] mynderMail

This is my first app (long time java dev, first time android dev) so I'm excited to get some XDA feedback =c) Hope I'm posting correctly. Also apparently I can't do links yet so sorry about that.
Why?
I got sick of composing a new email every time I wanted to send myself a note. I looked around, but couldn't find anything that did everything I wanted (at most I found one that used intents to pre-populate the "to" field). So I wrote mynderMail.
?id=com.uxiomatic.mynderMail
Elevator Pitch
The app will let you **send an email to yourself** as soon as you can type it out! First line of the message will become the subject of the email, and the rest will become the body.
**Material-ish Design!** I tried. I'm sure I didn't hit every guideline, but I feel like I got close.
There are **no ads** (though I am planning on a Pro version next year). This app is currently in beta - so let me know if you encounter any issues.
Demo Video is on Google Play - my first try at this kind of video (or any kind really.)
Demo Music Track: “Reckless” (by Azureflux), available on SoundCloud
----------------------------------FAQ-------------------------------------
Q: So all this does is send an email to myself? Can’t I just do it myself through my email app?
A: Yes and yes. But if you’re like me and you send yourself notes all the time, time savings of 50% make this app very useful. Sending from your email takes longer because you need to:
Open the email app (which takes longer to launch).
You have to hit compose.
Select yourself as recipient.
Type the subject.
Type the body.
Tap Send
Where as with mynderMail you just:
Open mynderMail.
Type your whole note in one textarea (including the subject).
Tap Send
Q: Can't I just use Evernote, Google Keep, Google Now, <insert your note taking app>...
A: You could. If you always go back and check your notes, sure. But sometimes you just need to get something somewhere where you know you'll see it and then sort it into the appropriate app. Some things end up in Evernote, or in an issue tracker (work or personal), sometimes it's a phone call, sometimes it's a follow up email, etc... Think of it as sticking a quick post it on your front door or somewhere else where you'll be sure to see it vs writing out a note and filing properly.
Q: I have an idea for a feature. Can you have the app do X?
A: Probably, though the Free version is fairly complete. Most of the new features will be added to the Pro version when it is released. You can send/post suggestions to me, and if it’s not already on the list and the suggestion makes it into the app, I’ll gift you a Pro version.

Thanks much android404
A Suggestion
The app is great. Makes sense and works perfectly. But I think the app would benefit immensely from a widget wherein I can type the text directly and hit send. That way I dont even have to open the app. Can do it right from the lockcreen/homescreen. Alternatively, a permanent notification can also serve the same purpose, but I prefer the widget.
Makes me think of BlitzMail. Maybe that one will give you inspiration for new features, who knows, have a look: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.grobox.blitzmail.lite

With a widget, I'd still have to open up some sort of activity since you can't type directly on the home screen, and since the app closes itself after send it amount to the same thing.
As far as a notification, I'm definitely considering it (also considering having a floating overlay a la "Snowball"/"Sloth Launcher" if i can figure out how to do it.) Currently I have it set up in my "Notification Toggle" which works out well

Huh, missed this one when doing my research, thanks. Looks like with this one though you have to enter your own mail server which is a bit of a barrier for entry.
The mail queue is a good idea that I already had on my list, as is sharing with the app.

I've since added an option for permanent notifications, as well as an option to share with the app (you can set it to send automatically or allow editing of the text before sending).
