Fully featured 3rd party Twitter app? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible and get to the point..
tL:dR = red
I'm looking for a fully featured 3rd party twitter app much like Falcon Pro was back in the day..
I've tried nearly all of them, I've even purchased some that I became very disappointed.
I need an app that notifies me on mentions, DM's, people who follow me, people who retweet me and favorite my tweets as well.. Much like the official one does. I love the official one but:
-Official -- Doesnt notify me anymore for some reason. I've tried all the fixes, nothing works.
-Falcon Pro -- Cant sign in anymore. Gives me the 'date and time setting' error.. Even created a twitter app that the dev says to do to bypass that,, Didnt work either.
-Tweetings -- The best one so far.. Hate the layout tho.. too crowded for my taste when i add more than one account. And the notifications, when upon clicked, (i.e. people who favorite me, and/or retweet me) doesnt take me to the 'tweet' that i posted. Once I click that notification, it just goes away. I would like to go back thru my mentions and 'see' what tweets of mine got favorited and/or retweeted.. If that makes sense.. Tweetings doesnt allow that.
-All other apps that I've tried have splendid ui's but lack the option of push notifications such as who have favorited my tweets and who retweeted my tweets... When people mention me, of course that notifies me, but no other notifications =/
Like I said, the official one was perfect after Falcon pro when bye bye, but it doesnt notify me anymore (been going on for almost a year now).. Falcon pro was my go to! LOVED that thing.. But no longer works for me either
Anybody recommend an app that I may not have tried yet that incorporates my wants..??

I would suggest Carbon for Twitter, however they're having issues with Authentication tokens for new users. I'd have a look at the apps in the play store tbh, I used to use TwitBird it pretty much caters your needs.

Is the HD2 Twitter client useless for everyone else too?

Hi all,
I got my HD2 yesterday and so far I am very happy with it, except for a few minor details. One of the biggest annoyances so far is the Twitter client (HTC Peep). It's useless! When I try to update the latest tweets the entire phone slows down and it takes ages before they are updated. Also, scrolling up and down is extremely slow, except for most of the times when Twitter isn't updating at all.
Are everyone else having this issue as well? Are there an alternative Twitter client that works fine with the HD2?
Thanks!

Second that!
Im using it without problems, its fast..
Only auto update doesnt work...
Maybe you have conflict with any installed SW...What about to try hard reset...
Mine is useless. It takes ages to upload/update, and doesn't automatically move to the top. It looks lovely but, coming from twitterific on the iPhone, its pretty useless as it stands. Its all down to how slow it is. Is this a ROM issue?
Mine also can't "make contact with the service" most of the time. Wile pocket twit works al the time.
Same here, also when it refuses to update it slows down the phone and I have to wait for 5 minutes++ for it to go back to normal.
Does anyone know of an alternative/good Twitter client I can use instead of HTC Peep?

I couldn't recommend Panoramic MoTweets any higher. It's not free, but it's cheap.
Personally, I've not had even the slightest gripe with the twitter tab in Sense, so I'm gonna stick with that, but I used MoTweets for a long time on my HD. Give it a try.

I'm not a big twitter user, but I've had no problems with mine. Speedy and never fails to update.
I just wish it had a time limit on the notifications (no, I don't want to be notified at 3am thanks), but I think I'll end up with a generic alert management system to cover that anyway.

Didn't look as good as HTC Peep, but I will give it a try. Thanks!
useless for now :S if someone deletes a tweet you already seen, the changes does not happen on hd2 when you update.
Do they actually test the software before sending it to the masses ?.. darn thing..
Hi, trying to use HTC Peed on my HD2 is near impossible. It slows right down or crashes!
I downloaed moTweets from the Marketplace a few days ago and have to say it's amazing! The interface is beautiful and the screenshots don't do it justice. It alerts you on the notifications bar when new tweets or message arrive.
Plus it has everything you need to retweet, send location, pictures, videos, view links, shorten links. I can't believe they charge under £3 for this. I've removed Peep for my bar and put moTweets on my quick links.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem. Anyways, the Norwegian marketplace has 11 (!) apps. Totally useless so far.
Because my Twitter app also would'nt connect via GPRS, but did via WiFi, I contacted HTC NLD for a solution. Their reaction was that this might be a proxy problem.
So of your mobile provider uses proxy Twitter is next to useless. If not, it should work fine.
Check if this is the case by connecting your HD2 to WiFi and start twittering. If the lag or connection issues are gone you have a proxy! Check the provider settings if you're able to connect without a proxy.
Also third party twitter apps will prove to be useless because they use the same proxy. In that case the only option is to connect to internet and twitter on line.

Brilliant Twitter App. Very cheap, and rock solid. Gets updates often. . Well supported by developer and.....
Works like a charm when not connected to WiFi too.
I would have liked to use the built in twitter app, but I too can''t get it to work over a non wifi connection, I looked at removing my proxy info, but my proxy box was already unticked so made no difference to the problem.
Thankfully Twikini is supurb (and I had already purchased it previously) so I just use that. Its a much better twitter client all round.
Anyone interested in buying this App, might like to know that it is also available from the marketplace at a considerably cheaper price than direct from the developers website.
There is a free trial version, give it a go. It even comes with a HTC coloured theme so its all looks nice.

yeah it's ****ing pathetic. I thought it was going to be at least a few hundred apps there.... Been checking there once in a while since I bought the HD2, but still no new apps. Maybe we'll get 1 or two more apps next year if we are lucky woohooo!!
Few things in the world can be more useless than Twitter itself, let alone Twitter clients.
It does the Twitter thing for me but doesn't make coffee, doesn't deliver or send any significant information anywhere and doesn't wake me up in the morning. So yes, it's predictably useless.
Another good Twitter client is PockeTwit: http://code.google.com/p/pocketwit/

Asurion Mobile AddressBook for Android

Hello XDA,
I am one of the developers of the Asurion Mobile AddressBook and I would like to get some feedback on our product from the users here. I have been using this forum for some thine now for Winmo and respect the opinions of the developers here. It would be great to see what everyone thinks of the application. It is available in the Android Marketplace, just search Asurion. Or you can go to our site at http://www.getaddressbook.com/.
A little about AddressBook, it is a socially connected address book that allows you to get information about your contacts from different social sites like Facebook and Twitter right in the address book, through mini programs called Mixins.
Soon we will have an APK for developers to develop their own Mixins for AddressBook. When its ready I will post more information if anyone would like to beta for us.
AddressBook is still in a beta form and is available for 1.6 and 2.0 and above. Please try it out and let me know what you think. AddressBook is new and we are open to positive and negative feedback.
Thanks,
Peter
Just installed
Main app + all MixIn
It's a nice app, just a bit slow on my HTC Sapphire Magic Vodafone 32B with 2.1 Eclair Rom
I don't like "MixIn solution", why not a full app with all modules inside ?
I've launched main app, then I gone to market and installed Facebook MixIn for first.
After a lot of privacy authorization with some screen not well fitted I did a little war with Matching People, cause a lot of them were not matched nice.
I need Photos compare, cause I've some cases with two or more people with the exact name... like my cousins =)
I had some Facebook MixIn Force close Crashes and some com.google.process.gapps crashes too, right now...
I installed flickr and associate it with some of my contacts and no problems at all.
at last I tried Twitter and no probs with it...
I think it's a good app, but a bit slow...
last thing:
Support for all languages (I could translate it in Italian if you need)
I don't like number in this format 000-000-0000
or 00-000-0000
I know it's a developing app and I will wait for next releases of this.
Well Done
Good Job
This is some great feedback, thanks for taking the time to try it out and post back.
Just wondering
Is this ultimately going to be a paid application?
You know like:
5.99/mo
4.79/mo
1.99/mo
What's our deductible? :0
Haven't tried the app, but if you could spread the QR codes apart it will ease their reading.
Thanks for your app!
played with it 30mins.
1. got the main app
2. started a new a/c in www.getaddressbook.com
3. got the MixIn: Facebook
4. start the MixIn app, input Facebook a/c
5. click Allow buttons 3 times
6. MixIn starts to get contacts from FB
7. Auto Match
8. Manual adjust Auto Match results
9. Launch main app
The above steps took about 25mins (330 FB contacts; 300 gmail contacts; Auto Matched 180; manual picked out... haven't counted >_< i believe picked out 30 - 50).
Cool:
-Auto Match tried to best match FB | Local contacts even they are not perfect match.
e.g. Shirley Lam | Salei Lam (it matches)
-Facebook photos can replace local as well as sync. to Gmail Contacts
-Consolidated activities log (SMS, voice call, etc) for individual contact
Not:
-[MixIn: FB] Say you have some contacts named Peter Chan, you will get confused without some other hints like Organization.
I picked those contacts out in Auto Match to prevent mis-matching as Org is not displayed in Auto Match results
-[main app] Contact list won't remember the last viewed location.
I scrolled from top to Carol, click twice to view details, click Return and the contact list scrolls back to top.
-[main app] Slow. Maybe it's my outdated HTC Magic... (it's CyanogenMod 4.2.13 w/ EBI1 mod]
For me:
Keep and waiting for updates!
looks cool..will try this later when i get home for work..
speed is defiantely something that can be worked on.

It looks interesting but what you should definitely not miss is the T9 dialer. The way you can find contact by typing their name directly from the dialer is the only feature that makes me stay on 1.5. I tried other apps from the Market but nothing could match HTC's Sense UI dialer. If you can bring something clean similar to this I'm sold!
Another question for the community. Are there any features you are not seeing in the AddressBook that you would like to see, things that would make this app a must have?
Great work on the app. After using the app for a few days the main reason I stopped us using it was the user interface. Its not horrible but compared to everything else on the phone, it looks a bit outdated (quality wise). Other then the ui, it can be sluggish at times but nice work.

Darvo is absolutely correct. The T9 dialer is something that is sorely missing from most builds. I think it would especially appeal to stock users as well as those running cooked roms. I have been searching for a reliable answer to this outside of a Sense UI but haven't found anything that I'll stand by 100%.
Thank you .........
I appreciate your effort with AddressBook; however:
I find it extremely inappropriate and invasive that the app immediately syncs my contacts upon install to -- where? your servers?
There should be a clear warning that this is about to happen!
Please delete my data from your servers!
Also, the 'delete all' function on your site does not work, at least not with Safari. I 'moved' all to the 'delete' column on right, but clicking on 'delete selected' does nothing.
And with Chrome I couldn't even log in. Got some error about 'src' and try the support page.
I am sorry that app is frustrating you. There is a screen during setup that lets you know about the backup. This function can be turned off in the app. If you give me your user name I will delete your account from the database. The back up is meant to protect your contacts in the case that you loose your phone or get a new one. As for browser support, right now we are only supporting IE and Firefox. Again sorry the app is frustrating for you.
Great app!
I really like and appreciate this app. The 2 biggest features that drew me to waste countless hours playing w/ hero roms on my mytouch were hero's T9 dialer, and the social integration. I'll 3rd the motion for a T9 dialer in your app. No complaints otherwise. Bravo - and thanks for the great app.
P.S. Backup to server is a bit redundant in my opinion, because your contacts already sync w/ your Google acct - but, to each is own. I might be missing an advantage to it anyway. I just opted not to use it.
And props for soliciting feedback here in the forum - where the REAL users are.

Really? Because I can see in the options where to change the time and frequency of the sync, but I don't see how to disable syncing altogether. Maybe I'm just missing something?
Good catch, looks like there is a bug, you should be able to set it to not backup. We will work to get that fix in.
I have been playing around with the Hero, but I am not sure I have found the T9 dialer, what does it do?
Feedback
I've been following this app since it first arrived, and I must say bravo for doing what only HTC dared to attempt. It works well, too, except for a few things.
1. It may SEEM that scrolling smoothness isn't that important. Ask Apple, they'll tell you the truth: Its the only thing the masses give a Sh&% about, how something looks. So imitate the apple or hero contact style, because the one here is rough but needs only an easy fix! Smooth scrolling and better "sleek" colors. Same for the dialer.
2. It seems to run too often in the background, which slows my phone seemingly, no matter how often i taskiller it.
Eagerly awaiting the next release...

Bloo 1.5 W/ Facebook Chat

i just want to start off by saying that "Bloo" is one of the best app for facebook out there. the developer had decide to either let bloo die or make it open source.
please respect hes work and show support if you want "bloo" to survive.
visit hes website "fbandroid.wordpress.com" or on the market. and let him know how you feel.
By the way he has release a "Preview" of the new Bloo 1.5 With Facebook Chat. (REMEMBER IS NOT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE) everything seems to be working fine for me. but there should be some bugs.
****The only way to download this app is either by downloading "ASTRO" on the market. and download it straight from your SD Card****
**BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE NEW VERSION, PLEASE UN-INSTALL WHATEVER BLOO VERSION FROM YOUR PHONE FIRST**
This app looks freaking awesome so far. Haven't had a chance to try out facebook chat yet, but will soon...
Does Bloo allow me to accept friend requests? I always hated the fact that I couldnt do this on the stock FB app.
no it doesnt allowed to received friend request. due to "FACEBOOK" policies to third party apps. the only way to activate for you to received friend request on your mobile phone is by the "official android facebook app".
Bloo is one of the best facebook app hands down.
SHOW SUPPORT TO THE DEVELOPER
"fbandroid.wordpress.com"
TO KEEP BLOO ALIVE OR ELSE THE DEV WILL NO LONGER WORK ON THIS APP.
Let it die! Along with Facebook!
I would like the chat even better if I could receive my replys

The chat seems to be working fine for me. Except sometimes if I leave the chat, get a response in the notification bar, and click it, the response isn't there. I have to back out of the chat to the "friends online" list and go back into the chat of that one person.
Kinda annoying, but otherwise the best facebook app Ive used yet.
This is not good!
Wow, who says this is better than Facebook for Android app??? This app is terrible, everything I try to do needs approval first. Then after I got it all setup its slow, you scroll down past the feeds and wait while it downloads more, scroll down, and wait.....very annoying. I gave it a try but I would rather use the Facebook for Android app, its much improved.
I like the effort though but I say let it Die!

From a developers stand point - these issues you have are Facebook API related. If Facebook would open up their API or have an "App Approval" process then it would be a lot better.
I have to say even the Facebook app blows big monkey test....well you get the point.
I guess FB didn't get the Memo that Android has now out sold iPhone and all last year was expected to do so. Maybe they should have balanced the development budget a little more in favor of Android....who ever made that business decision is probably fired now, maybe them and the guy from apple who lost the 4g can go into an Epic Fail business together.
Along these lines I just read on engadget that Erick Tseng - THE Android guy at Google - just quit over at the big G to go to work for FaceBOOK.
I see an amazing Android app in our future. I'm stooked on pure speculations here!

Um, you can set how many posts to load in the feed. It just auto loads when you get to the bottom no matter what. Facebook app doesn't even do that. All those permissions are one time things. Oh, and you want to look at a notification you received with the official facebook app? Looks like your redirecting to the browser! Might as well just use the touch site.. Bloo does EVERYTHING IN APP! Including notifications for wall posts, and other responses which the facebook app does not do. This app is not as pretty as the facebook app I will say, but def trumps it in usability
Bloo seems to be only good for telling me when there is notifications, other than that it's the stock app or mobile page for the best results. (or just viewing the full page in the browser)

[APP] Executive Assistant - for anybody whose inc is an office phone too

Holy guacamole! Has anybody else seen or used this app? I am amazed - its spectacular. It is a 1 stop widget for email / calendar / tasks / sms / missed calls / voicemail / facebook / twitter / google reader.
I just downloaded and installed the free version of the app from market and various add-ons and am positively blown away. Will be buying the paid version to get rid of ads when i get home.
I have been searching for something like this for weeks and found a reference on droidforums or something like that. My stupid, stodgy, underpowered, small low res screen, bad browser, no apps, no customization blackberry can now safely be consigned to the trash can! My d-inc will be my new work phone and with this app and the widgets I have absolutely everything I needed.
A few things to note:
1. Set up took a small bit of time for me but once set up properly it is great.
2. Editing any incorrectly entered settings is confusing since the menu button keeps pulling up general phone settings. You have to click inside the widget and then press the menu button to get the app settings. They should make that better.
3. The widget app does not seem to support exchange email - just gmail including google apps and other IMAP/POP accounts such as yahoo, hotmail - you need paid accounts for those last 2 I believe. I guess for my exchange account i will use the htc widget (strangely though the app does support exchange calendars).
4. There are countless settings - spend the time to figure them out. Font size, color, background - way too many things can be changed.
5. I confused myself by using it on the lockscreen - when you switch on the screen, you dont see screen unlock - you just see a summary page of the emails / calendars etc etc. - you have to click the home button to get the slider to unlock your phone.
6. http://www.appventive.com/executive-assistant is the app site but there is not a helluva lot of info there. You are a bit on your own in figuring out the settings etc.
7. I have 2 google emails - 1 personal, 1 office g-app and of course google voice. It did not like that and would not login into all my email and voice till I entered their passwords properly instead of letting the app gather that from the device settings.
8. I have not tested battery drain yet but I suspect it will lead to some since it seems to pull the emails rather than just polling the android apps.
For anybody who wants to use their droids as work related phones - this is by far the best thing I have ever come across.
not that I'm cynical, and it does look interesting, but this post sure sounds like developer pumping his app

hahahahaha. check my other posts - u will see i am a noob tinkering around - not a dev or anything like that - probably sound too excited because i finally got an app which makes my bberry (useless junk i was forced to use since the iphone is bad too) replaceable. am a private equity guy - i know financial statements not java or whatever android is written in.
PS: there is 1 more drawback - if u try to use multiple widgets, 1 setting applies to all. So u cant have 1 widget for SMS/Twitter/Facebook and 1 for email - maybe i am doing something wrong but thats what it seemed like.

triple it, it a deal breaker for me, great idea though. would buy it if it was able to read from the exchange mailbox (i don't want yet another mailbox checking or recieving, its already downloading the email, just read that inbox?)
If anybody can recommend anything better, I would love to try that. I suggested this only because there is nothing better than this out there - at least I have not found any. Even without exchange, there is no consolidated widget for all the things in 1 screen.
I have a JB iphone 4 too and I use lockinfo (cydia app). That's the best implementation of a launchpad for various items (calendar, weather, email, missed calls, sms, voicemail, notifications, tasks, twitter) and so on... So far no such widget/app seen on the android platform. This one is close but as you can see from my comments too, its not perfect.
I have Executive Assistant and I must say it's very useful.. if you're looking for something else that also displays all information you might want to try Slidescreen and Slidescreen Pro. I'm not sure if you can read exchange mail through them but they're very clean and professional looking.. they act as a new home though.
Good find!
Checkin out the free version now, no exchange support isn't an issue for me as I don't use it, but if the rest of the app is solid and the dev has enough of a following, I think it's safe to say that exchange support can be expected down the pipeline (Here's hoping since I know a lot of folks use it!)
OK, bought full version, dude SWEET find! Been looking for something like this!

Google+ App (not an invite thread)

Please don't ask for invites here as it will only get the thread closed, and other threads already exist for invites.
So what do people think of the app? For a beta product it seems really good (from my limited use). I think a tablet version would be nice but I understand it's in beta
One drawback I think is that Huddle doesn't integrate with Google Talk? Seems a bit weird to me as G+ is integrated with GTalk on the website as it is in Gmail. Hopefully it will change with a future update. Other than that the app looks good. Glad to see there's already been a minor update too
I want to see Hangouts implemented. Otherwise, very solid app. Loving + lol
Loving the G+ app. Definitely well done, seems very clean and fluid.
Loving the Huddle feature, I just wish there was a way to remove users from chats. But that's a minor detail.
I really like it so far, although I'd like the privacy controls to be more transparent and built into the app itself.

I was looking how to do this earlier...
Unfortunately it will probably be a while seeing as Google Talk still doesn't support many handsets for video chat and Hangouts use the same technology
you can moderate comments from the app, Facebook struggles to even show the damned comments. I cant wait till Google plus gets a bespoke tablet app.
It's inexcusable for this app to not have a layout for tablets.

How is it inexcusable? Google+ isn't even in open beta yet..
The G+ has been known for a loooong time, and 3.0 has been in the works for probably just as long. Hell, they've submitted an iOS app already.
I used to defend the lack of HC apps, but there's onlyg about 5 apps from Google that actually have tablet support, every other google app lacks it. They should be leading by example. We're 6 months into the lifecycle, Google is taking the "Do as I say, not as I do" approach to HC.
I think all the devs are holding off on making tablet specific apps because of Ice Cream Sandwich coming soon. I have a feeling it will make all the other apps play nice with tablets as well as phones.
As for the GOOGLE+ app, I like it and they have left room for improvement so there is sure to be more to come. Within 6 months, this thing is going to put Facebook to shame unless they act fast. They are both on the same track, just starting at different ends. Going to be interesting to watch the next few months.
It still has some glitches (e.g. I couldn't find a way how to add a new person to my circles that is not in my contacts yet), but works well...and is way better than official FB app.

Loving the Huddle feature, I just wish there was a way to remove users from chats. But that's a minor detail.</snip>
Click to collapse
Just remove the user from the circle you used to start the huddle. Won't that subsequently remove them from the chat?
Not that I've seen. I've since removed someone from a Circle that was in an initial Huddle chat and they still remain 'Invited'.
That's because a Huddle isn't a chat room with heirarchy. It's a meet up where everyone is equal. It's...a huddle.
Still waiting for Google Profiles to be supported in Google Apps.
I know it's not the app but god the website is terrible on a tablet.. tis really annoying
The app doesn't work for me. I have an account, which I use in Firefox for Windows just fine, but the app asks me which account to connect with. I pick one, then it says "connecting" for a moment, then says I need an invitation. My only options are to close it or get more info.
Edit: sorry I'm currently using it on a Droid X. I discovered this thread from Google search, didn't realize it was the Transformer section.
Force close when I try huddle.
It seems very good or a beta version, but still needs many improvments to beat FB...
