hey, us charge users seem to be having alot of questions , and that's fine, but they have been getting put in the droid charge general forums making it all cluttered, and having some questions get lost in all the other posts. I think we should put a "Verizon Droid Charge Q&A" forum to go along the general, android development, themes and aapps , and accessories. this would clean up our forums and make our questions alot easier to answer. if you go to the fascinate forums, its a good example. they have the q&a thread, exactly what im looking for. im sure other users would agree with this and hope wwe can make this a possibility. please take this into.consoderation mods!

I sent a request to the Mods about this very thing last week as i also came from the Fascinate and i saw way to many Q&A's being put in all different areas of the charge forum. I was told that this forum needs to his 10k postings before it could be considered and we are very close to that # so hopefully in the next few weeks we can have a sub forum called Droid Charge Q&A like the fasciante.
Just 1000 more posts to go then i can request a Q&A

+1 yes please
I normally don't post... but here is another for the tally
I think could be a useful idea.
I understand not wanting the clutter but honestly I've seen Q&A threads on other forums before and they are usually DEAD. It's hard enough to get your questions answered on here since the Charge forum isn't extremely active(compared to bigger phones like the GS2) but no one would check the Q&A thread meaning getting help would be much harder and take significantly longer. I would say +1 to this idea anyway but if it does get approved whenever someone asks a question in general someone will be like "This should be in the Q&A thread, mod move pls". :[

Hi,
Thank you for your interest and commitment to developing on the Charge. We are super stoked to have you here, and I don't want to be an annoyance with stupid questions. That said:
Would it be appropriate to have a FAQ for the development section of this forum? Even though I have experience rooting the HTC Eris and the Nook Color, I have no idea what some terms that are thrown around here mean, and google yields no relevant results.
Specifically, what is ED1 and ED2?
Other questions might include (even though they are easier answered by lurking): What is Odin? How do I root my Charge? What ROMs are available? Is Cyanogenmod going to be available for the Charge? How can I donate to the development phone fund?
I can't think of any others at the moment, but perhaps a mod can put something together since they may have more experience answering questions than myself.
Thanks!
I'm sure everyone would love an faq

Or does it seem like the sensation forums are getting more noobs than usual? I havent seen so many no development threads started in the development section. I think that it should be a rule that only Devs can create threads in the Dev section. Anyone can post, but only devs should be able to create a thread in that section
This belongs in the non-existant Q&A section
It's always gonna be like that. And no, It will never be over.

Agreed. But the device is still new and we don't have S-Off.
And you can't block for only devs to post in the development section because there may be a rare occasion that a new person to XDA will find something revenant and it actually go in that section.

Unfortunately there's just not enough Mods for that.
I just want to add...not flame here....
Keep in mind the 'early' release at wally mart, the instances of "upgrades" for some that got a deal on this great phone s-off and all.
For the price this piece of hardware is worth its weight in gold IMO. Me coming from a N1 and I assume most people had a hand in one as well. And for me the N1 did not have a subsidized carrier to discount the phone. If it ever was, I would say it would have been rare. Because of this, the N1 didn't have a big influx of noobs. It was price and brick and mortar stores that helped the sale this time around. If google did this with tmo first off, by this time the S4g was released, they could have built up a great marketing campaign IMO. But I digress...
So an influx of noobs? Sure you'd get these with every well made phone. Just the nature of the beast and marketing.
Kinda sucks, but being rude kept the idiots at bay and made them think before posting.
Hi guys,
You probably already know me from my other threads, mostly the support thread. If not, I would like to give a brief introduction: in june, I received an upgrade from at&t and decided to purchase the infuse 4g my first android phone.
I was thrilled with its performance, and the community started off strong. ROM's were coming out surprisingly fast, actually too fast for me to figure out which one I liked best.
I began to see that the developers threads were getting cluttered up with silly, often repeated questions, so I created a support thread to help lessen the load for the devs. I know it wasn't a perfect solution, but I helped build a small team of people who have been incredibly helpful so far, who I am beyond impressed with.
Now comes the bad part. Even my support thread, originally designed to avoid clutter, has become a landfill of lazy people who don't look for the answer to their question which has been asked and answered 30 times already.
All the devs have been subjected to so much bs that they are afraid to even release their work. Everyone flames everyone like crazy, but none of you guys can help the community. I am disgusted by most of your behaviors, and hope that you see how childish your arguments are.
Now, for my point: this community is still young, and we have accomplished so much already. We have the chance to have one of the strongest development teams out there, and a kick-ass community, in which we look out for each other's best interest.
I would like to propose a way to get things started again: we need a campaign to delete clutter/flame.
Neo works hard, but we need to help him out. Everyone, I urge you to look through your posts, find bad ones, and mark them in some way to be deleted. This is in order to resuscitate this potentially unbeatable community.
Thank you all, and I hope you understand my intentions

Moderator's(Neo) intervention was required as gtg's thread was going out of control.
as after his intervention members have started behaving themselves and Neo has removed/locked unnecessary threads this forum is at peace.
let the dead bury the dead and do not remind people again of what happened.
Just post relevant stuff and that is sufficient for everybody.
P.S.
if issues are not resolved then it never will be as no one will accept blame and any such thread will eventually result in blame game.
right now see that people are just paying attention to information, now calling them for campaign is also a distraction.

Hey, thanks for sharing your opinion with me in a respectful manner. However, I feel that the issue is not yet resolved, and the general forum is definitely the appropriate place to post it. The development is virtually at a standstill and I am not talking about gtg, but the other devs and would be devs who are now discouraged. I find that although your response was polite, it was completely inappropriate, especially considering what my original post stated. If you have an issue with my posts please message in private as opposed to calling me out/ racking up your post count.

I'm glad you guys are willing to help out in getting this show on the road. This can only be done by helpful members, especially the ones who read the rules and abide by them.
I think the main issue at hand is that people tend to speak their mind too often, in situations where a moderator should intervene. The best course of action is to report a post or PM a mod (for the Infuse, that's me ) and let them know what's going on.
I'm not on the board 24/7, so I too can miss stuff. But there are ALWAYS other mods who look after the Infuse forums when I can't, so reporting is the BEST thing you can do.
About "rebooting" the community: People are already getting annoyed by the lazy, demanding types, who don't use the search and just post another question which has been asked a million times before. Well, at least if it's in the Q&A forum, it's controlled. So that's our main focus for now: get people to ask their questions there, instead of the development or general forums.
This thread can stay open, as long as it's constructive criticism. All ideas are welcome, as long as it helps us out, right?

I wasn't aware that there was a Q&A forum until you mentioned it. I'm using the xda app and have the SAMSUNG Infuse 4g as my favorite, but within that category, the Q&A forum isn't listed. I clicked onto the forum tab and scrolled till I found the Q&A forum. Yeah people can search for it, but I wasn't even aware that forum existed. I just suggest adding the forum into the Infuse 4g category. I think there will be less questions asked in the wrong section if it was listed.

And I think another reason why we see a lot of similar topics being posted especially regarding support is because new users (like myself) feel we need support about our specific situation, even tho we may have already read a similar thrend. Its happened to me were I posted help and either ill get a smart reply ie "its been posted 10 times already" or they may reply with a link. The link will be exactly what I've already read but, the thrend doesn't 100% pertain to my situation so I'm afraid I may mess up even more if I follow those steps (its actually already happened,my first brick) This is why we may see a lot of repeat thrends. I usually will encourage my support giver to pm me but I hardly receive any.

This community here has been strong, informative and helpful to many Hox users. IMO, it has also been used to flame, disrespect, and challenge personal opinions in several threads. I myself have fallen into this pit. I just wanted everyone to read a thread posted in the EVO LTE forums from a person whom not only fell into this pit himself, but recognized it and publically corrected himself to better bring back his community. Im not implying anything against the Hox community, but just hope it can serve as an example, that we stand stronger united and can/will accomplish much more as individual minds coming together. Not individuals thinking a mind. Please click the link below, to read how this xda member noted his closed mindness, and forfeited it for the good of his community.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29136185
With this said, there are great feats still to be accomplished for the Hox devices. Let's all put our 2 cents in where we can, put away the other 98, and make these feats into accomplishments!!

You also have to understand the flip side of the coin. People come here and start threads to ask the same basic questions that people have answered 500 times already. Questions that would have been easily answered in 10 seconds had they done a search first. Its frustrating.
Yes, there are no stupid questions. Yes we were all noobs at one point. Part of learning is figuring basic out things yourself by doing some research though.

Agreed 100%. There are a million threads that could have been avoided simply by SEARCHING. If you can navigate to XDA using your browser, you have the skills necessary to use the search function. People are just lazy and don't want to do any reading, they'd rather someone just respond with an answer. Super annoying, my .02.

This. It is painfully evident when people don't search even though they say they do when and that's when I'll come in with a snarky post. You can't tell me you searched for the method to root 1.85 when there is a STICKY with the procedure in development, and 4 other threads on the first two pages of Q+A asking the same question, with people providing answers. Sorry, but I don't buy it. If you want me to put forth some effort into helping you, you must put forth the effort to help yourself first.
That all said, if it shows that you did do some research but still need some clarification on a few things, you betcha I will be willing to help to the best of my ability. I may be an asshole sometimes, but I am actually a really nice guy and I do enjoy helping people out. Just don't start our e-relationship on a lie ("I searched, I swear!") and we'll get along famously.
Training noobs, snarky fun posts, they help teach and make xda a fun place. Mostly, I'm referring to the heated debates, and hateful posts that have crippled some of our unreplacable threads and formed hatefulness between members. By all means, I love when an opportunity arises for me to get a few people to laugh, please, keep them coming when you see fit

I agree that there are times where a lot of us get really upset and lose our cool. And that we should try to keep that to a minimum.
But this isn't exactly a forum for extremely basic questions at the same time, even though we all have some from time to time, there are tons of other forums like that though. And some people are obviously trolling too ("HTC done it wrong" guy, lol....)
The only thing that ticks me off about this community are the "should I get a galaxy s3" threads. No one cares. This is an enthusiast forum for the HOX. If you want to talk gs3 go over there.
If this was a BMW enthusiast forum you would be flamed to hell if you wrote a topic like "should I switch to a mustang?".

XDA was a great place even when I joined during the GS1 era. However, it slowly turned into turned to crap with the success Android garnered though. Aside from the flame bait or post-purchase rationalization threads, the general user of this forum feels the developers OWE it to the users to make their devices better, for free. Not even joking. There were some people who expressed that in their posts in the Nexus S forums. Then there are the people who don't even bother to read instructions or stickies and when they brick their device they blame the developers. I like to help people as much as the next guy once being a noob myself, but it ain't fun when I answer the same question I know I answered last week.
Why don't we create a thread specifically for noobs, beginners in android, people who came from iphone and people that are lost in what to do..and put it in Dev thread..entitled "Lost,Confused and Dont know what to Do"..since I think everyone would go to the Dev Thread first before reading the General and Q&A thread..something like Help Support..where anybody can help...

Honestly I think its a great idea, won't stop everyone from posting in the wrong place but we could direct them to that thread. I also think that thread, if created should have a resource bible as well.... great idea!!

Yes..thats what im thinking too..i myself did go to the Dev thread when i had my first Android Galaxy Spica..never bothered to look in the Q&A or General Section..and like most newbies also had been kicked and slap with rude words from other members..
So Mods reading this..please consider sumthing like this..it would be beneficial to the whole community..again..thanks for all the talent in this community.

Not going to help the numerous people who don't search, don't read, and don't even look at the thread titles before posting their problems.

But a link to the helpful thread could be provided and the thread the noob started could be closed. I'm in support of it.

People will say "No one ever answers anything there" Same thing happens with the Q&A now as well...

Agreed. plus we do have quite a few comprehensive noobs guides already in place, but you need to be willing to read...
How many times do you see a question asked that was answered just a few posts prior within the same thread.
I applaud the vast majority of devs we have here for their patience for not getting pissed off when their thread gets completely derailed...
I'm by no means an expert but I do a lot of reading and I learn a lot of things, for the vast majority it's all here...
Just read...
