[Q] Have you gotten the OTA notification yet? - HTC Inspire 4G

Seen some people on HTC's facebook page had posted they had received a message from AT&T about the update. Just wondering if they're going to do this by market area or by phone IMEI order.
Have you received a notification yet?

I heard they're doing it it by 10000th.

Try the RUU posted by marsdta. That is exactly what they will push out. I loaded it 2 days ago and couldn't be happier.

If you update with the ruu above, you will lose s-off and you will be unrooted. The ruu above is the gingerbread update so all the at&t apps will be there

Not true as far as I know. I haven't flashed the latest RUU raw, but typically you retain S-OFF through a RUU flash. If you used gfree to get radio S-OFF (all the common rooting methods used gfree), then you need gfree to restore S-ON.
This is, in fact, a common issue when users need to send their phones back for warranty. It is tough to get it back to S-ON to make sure that the warranty center doesn't declare its warranty void.

I just checked my HTC wifi update link and it said I can update. I'm in Dallas, TX.

Still waiting, two Inspires on the account, one purchased on release day, second a couple months later. Been checking manually too. I want to try the OTA instead of downloading the RUU to see if the OTA update wipes all data. I don't care about mine, done enough data back-up and wipes on past phones, and all my stuff is Google account anyway. love that automatic recovery of apps and data is on SD card. Just want to cover my butt when the wife says "I'm doing the update" and I know she want lose her data.

The OTA update did not whipe my phone. Still had text messages even.

No update notice on mine...

me too, no notice yet. Does ATT send a text message to notify you that you can update?

Anyone know if you can flash the official update from htc using htc sync over custom rom?

I can't speak for the OTA, but the RUU adds the "Unknown Sources" option. I immediately installed Swype.

Live in Sacramento, CA market. Manually checked HTC wifi updates this morning and OTA update was available. 105+ MB download, installation ran 10-15 minutes, two self-reboots. Checked my wife's Inspire which was purchased much later (which I assume would mean a spread in serial numbers) and OTA is available for her phone two.
No issues so far except Sense is trying to sync all accounts and my Picassa Web Albums are extensive. I received one sms this morning and sent one without any issues as reported in other threads concerning this update, but I use GO SMS instead of stock app. so far so good.

Don't do the update unless you want your text messages to only show numbers instead of contact names. Wishing I never did the update now.

HTC system update

Logged into an At&T wifi yesterday and the phone offered an HTC system "update".
Having owned several HTC products and never seeing any sort of update from them for a device I owned, Ill admit i was a bit shocked. lol
Downloaded for a few mins, although I didnt see a file size.
Reboots, resets twice then boots. Both my Inspires updated to
Software Version
1.84.502.11
took about 5 mins total
Sorry If this was somewhere else, I searched and didn't see anything.
What'd they do to my phones?
This is the update from ATT that added hsupa

Anyone get it to install with root? I just don't want it to screw up my root where i'd have to do it again.
The OTA update is mostly a collection of patches. These are very specific as to the files they are to patch. If you don't have the official AT&T ROM (or a very close approximation) then the update won't do anything.
there is the full ATT rom with the included patches and fixes and stuff in the development section. just dl the rom and flash it since you are already rooted
simple and stuff.
but also a lot of the newer roms are importing the fixes

How long does it take to install after downloading?
I'm going on about 10 minutes of the green arrows on the black screen with the phone image under it. Don't think it should take this long should it?
K, thanks. Simple answer. Is there a way to disable that notification then?

[OTA] AT&T 1.85.502.3 Zip File

*** IF YOU HAVEN'T ROOTED YET DON'T DELAY....TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE !!! SEE POST #2 In this thread ***
My AT&T HTC One X got the 1.85 OTA notification update. I didn't install it. I have extracted it from my Download folder for others to benefit from and uploaded it to the link below.
http://www.fileswap.com/dl/PA8D46w9HU/
The Full File name is: OTA_Evita_UL_Cingular_US_1.85.502.3_R2_NEW_NFCPHONESTORAGE-1.73.502.1_release_263287jkmeqj8u75z409z9.zip as it was sitting in my Download folder.
I don't know how to use it. Perhaps someone else can provide further details on how to use this. Maybe start by moving this file to your Download folder and then checking for updates and it might see that the file is already there waiting in the Download folder....my guess. I'll update this post when more information is available.
I'm willing to bet this only works for those phones that are running 1.73. I started this thread because there was a lot of people on 1.73 complaining that they got the notification but that the file never downloaded for them.
EDIT:
ALTERNATIVE - HOW TO STOP THE UPDATE...to quote robertmoore208....
Download don't install, then use file manager or USB to remove the update from your phone .. simple as that .. no more update, no more notices
Click to collapse
Thanks robertmoore208!
***WARNING IMPORTANT **** If you are on 1.73 and you have chosen to delay the upgrade because you don't want to lose root you can only delay like 3 times. I just delayed for the like the 3rd time having chosen 8 hour delay each time. This last time I got a warning that I would not be able to delay it after the next 8 hours and that the upgrade would install.
So if you want to keep root it has already been reported that you can install OTA RootKeeper and if you use that to backup root and then do the OTA you will be able to keep root after the OTA update.
****** SO IF YOU HAVEN'T ROOTED YET and you are on 1.73 YOU BETTER ROOT NOW !!!! Because you can't root after upgrading to 1.85 unless you took prior precautions ******
......OR MAYBE ???.....all you need to do is delete the OTA zip file from your /sdcard/download/ folder ????????
EDIT: Yes, according to robertmoore208 all you have to do is delete the file!
Good info. Thanks!

Trouble downloading new update

Hey guys I'm having trouble downloading the update (I know, shocking... who would want the update my issue is is that I first tried to download the update when my battery was below 35%. It said that there was an update available but I had to wait until I battery was above 35%. now that it is above 35%, when I click on the check for updates button, literally nothing happens. no dialogue no confirmation... nothing. I've already rebooted the phone and tried to clear the cache for the updater app. any suggestions? I know for Motorola phones there is a way to install the updates manually... anything like that for HTC? I'm not rooted or unlocked.

Why do you want the update. Honestly there's no reason to want it. YAY you lose root and probably can't get it again and furthermore you can get all the features the update gives in a rom.

So I set the date forward 2 days, it discusses the update, then I got a dialog with a spinning circle saying "verifying update" with an "ok" button. I clicked the button and the dialog disappeared. Now I can't get it to reappear or download the update again. I keep setting the date forward two days and it says there's an update available but it never downloads.

One X Won't do OTA Update

I just got a One X back from an AT&T insurance claim two days ago, and naturally it came through with 4.0.3 on it. For whatever reason it refuses to do the OTA update for 4.0.4. I'll go to Settings -> AT&T Software Update -> Check for updates... it will check... and then just return me to the Check for updates screen. Anyone have any clues? I'm debating on just rooting it and installing a 4.0.4 ROM if I can't get it to work.
Don't run the ota, specially if you don't have unlocked bootloader. Even if you have unlocked bootloader flashing boot.img from fastboot is very very annoying. Just flash a custom rom and flash a radio if you want to.
It's a blessing it came with 4.0.3 on it. Root it and flash a ROM. Smile.
Everybody here will be against running the ota. Just root and flash the ROM of your choice, you will end up enjoying your phone so so so much more.

OTA after Root

I was wondering if anyone found a way to take ota after rooting. I have always had rooted devices and always ended up on custom roms. For now I would like to stay on the official rom and debloat a bit. Any ideas?

I tried this and update still wouldn't let me download the OTA.
Unless someone comes out with a way to revert the knox flag (which is said to be a perm flag) it won't ever be possible to be true factory again as all OTA's will now check for the tamper.
I think someone mentioned though you can manually install it, just the downloader/OTA wouldn't work.
If manually still wasn't possible I'm sure someone could remove the check from the update and you still get it that way but officially through Samsung you currently are probably stuck.
Ideally someone finds a way to reset the so called, perma flag.
If not the alternative might be finding a way to root the phone without flagging it, but in those cases it won't help those already flagged.
I know on HTC they had a similar type of flag, though didn't use it to check for update status. They flagged as Tampered or Re-locked for example.
However after some time we found how to reset those in some magical hidden area to blind write too (not talking about those that cheated to hide it via bootloader image edits)
At this point it's a wait and see game...
I hope someone finds fast though, I am stock and really want to get this bloat off my phone lol

Nice, Otherwise seems like a bad strategy on Samsung's part if they don't allow people who unroot and odin back to stock to take OTA's.. Why would a manufacture not want to offer a path back to stock for security updates and the chance to get a user back on a bloated rom full of there paid ad apps. Each time users do this there is a small percentage that won't either be able to re-root due to updates stopping the root method or just out of hassle. I understand the warranty flag but not why you wouldn't offer a path back to stock unless they are just being short sighted in an attempt to penalize people who root which won't have much effect..
I'd post the OTA like I said but I'm unrooted now.

I can't seem to do it. Once I rooted and tripped the Knox flag bit the Update check won't let me download. But the error message says that I can still download and install updates using Kies.
I just fixed it. The problem is not the Knox flag but rather the fact that Custom was showing in Download mode instead of Official. I had to flash twice without my SDcard inserted to get to Official. Once I got to Official the update started to download.

so what does it matter if a phone is rooted or not in terms of an OTA update from a phone that has already received it?....wouldn't you just upload it and apply it? shouldn't matter at all whether phone is rooted or not when you're updating the file received from an already received OTA phone update. It's just the acquisition of the update that's blocked, not the install. At least until the 5SS you could always just grab a copy of the OTA update and install.

I gotta agree.. Most of my previous device OTA's were always dumped within hours of release really surprised this hasn't been yet. This is my first Samsung phone and I have liked the device but kinda disappointed in the XDA turnout so far. I am always appreciative of those who are here but I just thought with how popular the Galaxy line was there would be more dev support from day 1 but there hasn't been much so far. I know it's early and being CDMA/Sprint really limits us but seems like all my previous HTC devices on Sprint and the current M8 are getting way more action.. Oh well, but sure makes a jump to T-Mobile for the new Oneplus One Cyanogen phone sound tempting haha..
And thanks again to all those who are here and contributing!!!
