hey guys a friend of mine that works on tmobile is testing out the samsung hercules (suppost to be the sgs2)
and it comes with samsung social hub. i was playing with it and its kinda cool..
i was wondering if i can get that app on my g2x.. just like i did with Media Hub and works fine...
but at the moment i cant find social hub anywhere on the web
in order to get it you need a dump of the os so it can be extracted. then you need one of the many intelligent individuals on here to make it compatible w/our phone.
I doubt it will work. I think it's built into the Samsung Framework, that is. Unless someone can port it over to stock Android.
Tell that 'friend' of yours who works at "T-Mobile" to dump the rom so we can get a look at it.

Does anyone more familiar with DLNA requirements know if this will be exclusive to the LG phones for hardware reasons or will this same app be able to work on phones from, say, HTC? This sounds like it could potentially be a great feature with my Onkyo DLNA AVR. Could be a deciding factor for me in which phone I ultimately decide on.
As i understand it LG developed it together with Microsoft and is only available on LG phones. If it will show up on other phones later i don't know but we can sure hope so. Right now i would buy the LG just because of that feature.

I think so, unless another phone has the DLNA hardware. LG is great! If you have a LG tv, stereo, surround system you can control them all with any LG remote. Im willing to bet that if you have a LG tv you won't have to set up your phone or tv to use the app.
Oh so it is a hardware issue? I thought hopefully, just maybe, it would just be software... damn, I really like the surround. Wish it had dlna
There's no such thing as DLNA hardware.
Awesome, that's what I was hoping. So all that is needed is wi-fi. Theoretically, this should be able to be ported from the LG to any wp7 device, correct? If that's the consensus, it will make my decision much easier.
It may/will be ported when/if WP7 is jailbroken. Apart from that, DLNA isn't something that belongs to LG and can't be done by someone else. When Microsoft provides access to socket APIs there may be third party solutions.
Dlna is using wifi it has nothing to do with any kind of hardware , and it havebeen ported to hd2 with Dhd android port
So I can connect my phone to my tv wireless now?
Damn thanks for the info! I thought I needed one of those players.

Your TV must support DLNA.
I knew DLNA wasn't proprietary to LG (my Onkyo receiver, Samsung blu-ray, and wmp11 all have it), I just don't really know how the internal phone stuff works like drivers and stuff so I wasn't sure if it would ever work even after the imminent jailbreak. HTC Surround, here I come! Thanks for selling me on it guys!
but if you have windows 7 that could be a stand in
Any way to side-load "play to" to a Samsung Focus yet?
I have to check it out at some point. I have LG.
I can sideload Play To to my Focus, but when I start the application, it's always said that I need the update my OS to the latest version (and I''m on 7392 at that time).
I can search for DLNA device, but since I don't have any DLNA device, I don't know if it's worked or not. Can I use my Windows 7 laptop ??
I know it's a huge disappointment that HTC didn't put in a HDMI port, something that didn't bother me until recently.
I know for a fact that DLNA works great for streaming videos and photos taken on my phone to my TV, even on CM7.
I also just recently saw those youtube videos of guys using their Evo 4gs as their desktop, and wondered if there was a way for this to be accomplished on our phones. I was mainly thinking there was some way to work some magic over DLNA, and then bluetooth speakers, mouse and keyboard for the rest.
Anyone know if this is possible at all or even semi possible?
(I tried to search before posting but the search was down)
I'm also looking for an answer to this
I would like to see some idea on this too. I guess we're in the minority.
I agree as well, this is something I would be interested in. I remember when I bought my previous phone (nokia 5800 XM). I was quite excited about it's video out function, only to find it's composite analog video out to be wanting.
When I was trying to decide between inspire and the Atrix, a big deciding point for me was the untested nature of the dual core, and so far I like the results of my choice, the 2nd gen snapdragon has plenty of ooomph to play my highly compressed x264 mkvs and the battery is somewhat reasonable, however the screen mirroring is something I would really be interested in, surely with the gpu/cpu combo in place some kind of solution could be put into place, it doesn't take that much bandwidth to push a 2d desktop worth of images, especially with modern network speeds.
Here's hoping!
I am really hoping for a way to do this too. That new crackle app would be a lot nicer if I could watch it on my tv.

I was searching for it too, but no luck.... Hope someone gets hands on this
I'm also looking for a way to mirror the screen of my sony tablet S to the TV set - via dlna?
would be cool to hear from someone with dlna related developement experience.
They say it's not even possible to make a screenshot on android without root permissions. (no, please dont start a discussion about screenshots now, explaining how wrong I am
Dude, I think you've got the wrong section, this is the INSPIRE 4G SECTION.
hope someone posts a tutorial
no matter what section. the problem is the same on all dlna capable devices.

Has anyone been able to find/install some of the apps from the Sony tablet s such as the music/video player app? Would this even be possible? It would be a nice addition to our transformers!
Nope I tried it and fonix gave it a look but neither of us could get it to work. And that was back on honeycomb quite a few months ago. Once it gets ics and if some people with more experience come in it will be tried again
Hello guys... Actually I just want to ask you about a clever / non-santc alternative uses for an old Evo 3D... actually a friend of mine get this phone at an airport, and he can't return it to the owner, because he were going to another country, so, he gave it to me and I'm thinking about clever uses... by now, I've some ideas...
3D camera - Useful, and nice, but, I don't like the idea because I'll have the phone on the table waiting for a 3D moment...
PDA/Organizer - It would be nice, but I do have 2 android phones as well... so, I don't want to carry on with another source of information
Media Server / HTPC (Home Teather Android Device) - Maybe this use is my prefered, but I don't have any idea on how to start here... any thoughts on this?
I am open for suggestions...
Thank you....

GPS system for car possibly?
You can also use qualcom toolkit to modify/setup a port
To keep GPS lock without data signal so you save massive
Amount of battery. I'll provide a link to the thread <here shortly>
Also depending what phone you have now the evo3d has some
Badass hardware , meanrom ICS| anthrax 1.5 oc it out performs
My Verizon galaxy nexus LiQuid 4.1.1 | faux 1.8 MHz oc
I've been using a bad esn evo 3d for about a month now simply as a tablet. Gaming, organizer, essentially just a back up of everything I need.

Nice suggestions... maybe the GPS suggestion with Qualcomm toolkit is a interesting option... do you have any info on this?.
Somebody knows about a no-phone rom??? CDMA doesn't work in my country, so, I'll never use the phone HW... so I can use the hardware on many other ways.
As a tablet, maybe it could work for me, but I'll add another phone to my pocket (Galaxy GT-5500 / Xperia Ray)... also as a remote control (with droidmote) for a MK802 is a clever use too, so, I would be a clever use as well.
About other uses, I've bought a MHL cable, and I'll try to figure it out on how to install XBMC and use it as HTPC (kind off) and I'll talk to you as well with updates...
Another interesting option is Ubuntu... but I'll try to go deep on this, and I'll talk to you later...
I will be always hearing ideas.... thank you!!!
I would use it as a 3D camera. Use it as a PDA/organizer that just happens to have a 3D camera. I think the Evo 3D takes nice 3D pictures and video.
Im looking for a good alternative for my Dad to watch streaming movies/tv from his room
Hes not greatly tech savvy. I like the ideas of the MK808 but to find any concise information is hard it seems.
How easy is it to get working from a phone, meaning using his smart phone to control and be able to type from his phone?
Will he be able to use the full website version of Hulu Plus?
How hard is it to flash a new ROM? I see Finless mentioned a lot, Im assuming this is probably the best rom for the type of device?
He will probably only really use it for watching netflix and hulu, maybe the occasional web search.
Now if I were to get one for me however, how well does it handle uhhh lets say "adult situations" I just got a Note 3, how will it stack up?
Any info would be great, what experiences do you guys have personally with android sticks?
+1
