Xoom 3g 3.2 update issues?! - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So from what I have read so far it speeds up the system and SD card works. What kind of a joke is this crap! SD card read only, apps can't use it. Netflix stops working, holy crap! What good is this update? If we can use the SD card, USB flash drives, USB hdd, netflix all on root stock 3.1, why update? Is this how Google is going to treat us? Moto should have never agreed to this crap! Either moto is stupid and just can't write the software or Google is trying to screw moto over! Come on now already! You can't really think we are that stupid! Google fixed the issue with a lock up of all the xoom's ability.

Agreed. I look forward to seeing Team Tiamat updates whether it has to do with their Rom or their kernel. There is a reason Tiamat is the winning team.
OP: Look into Team Tiamat's work if you haven't already.

Well teach me not to read! I updated and netflix works, I can use root explorer to access the sd card with my work. Lost the ability to use my 500gb hdd over otg. So actually I am more impressed at the speed improvement and scrabble works now. So my complaint now is with the ones posting completely wrong info. I'm sure I will figure it why my hdd isn't showing up.

There are actually important reasons the external sdcard was handled the way it is. Google didn't do it specifically to annoy you.
App developers (such as myself) will be updating to support writing via the new MTP method soon enough. Be patient.

It was all the reading I did. Loaded it and all is good. Lost my use of usb otg hdd support. Oh well still runs much better.

I just did the update 3.2 and i dont have OTG support at all. Also my calendar is messed up, for some reason it only gives me 1 date marked on the calendar. But really i have 6 dates. I downloaded a apk from this site so i can mount the sd card to read/write, the app works. But when i transfer my music from the xoom to the sd card (external 1) the music won't play on the sd card . Also this gave me the stock kernal anyway to go back to tiamat?

That's a good question. I am wondering if any other kernel would work?

[Q] Asus Transformer SD Card Notification

I just recently put an SD card into my Transformer and it works fine, the only thing is when I put it in it puts the SD icon in the notification area, and when I click it it lets me either view the files on the SD card or unmount it. However, is there a way to get rid of the notification icon for it?
That notification actually is pretty obnoxious sitting there. I don't see any option to turn it off though. It's as though the Transformer sees the micro SD card as a temporary storage device, like a flash drive. That's not how I intend to use it, though, so I wish there was a way to get rid of it.

What you did there.
I see it.
Yeah, it does treat the SD card as more of a temporary storage device. It would be nice if you could configure it at least so that the MicroSD card slot doesn't show up that way.
For the dock, tho, I'd rather have something like the notification since most of the time any storage device attached will be used temporarily.

Well.. if you're joke is that the xoom doesnt have sd support right now.. well I guess you dont read much... because granted out of the box the xoom sd card slot isnt active the kernel dev for the xoom has had it working for almost 2 months. When I sold my xoom I sold it with a working sd card.. So technically you're joke.. really isnt funny, if it was acurate then it would be.. but it's not entirely
And dont take the tone of this post as bad.. just being a smart ass not a ****
I just bought a card today to stick in my TF. I'm actually fine with how it handles it -- I moved some music over to it and it showed up in Music just fine -- but I'm also annoyed by the notification. I don't mind it saying, "Hey, you inserted a card!" but allow it to be dismissed. Imagine if your phone did this, kept a permanent notification up top, bleh. I dunno if this is an Asus thing or HC thing, but I hate unnecessary icons in the notification area, always makes me do a double-take.

No SD slot?

[Q] With the Galaxy Nexus coming, my only concern is the lack of SD slot. So I thought I'd ask you Nexus S owners what it's like living without an SD card. Is it a pain, or is it not a big deal outside of not being able to increase space?

I believe it brings an SD Card. Also its not a pain at least on my end. I haven't reached 6 gb yet and we all have 16 here. Unless u put massive amounts of music into your Memory then that's when Ull have to worry lol. But there's Google music for that (if u haven't been invited yet) I use it all the time but quality is alright, with voodoo its better than beats

Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
i was worried about it too at first but imo the transfer speeds make it all worth it.
and for the record the "16bg" actually amounts to .98gb internal storage and 13.31gb usb storage.
Not a big deal, I hardly fill even half of it..heck my previous milestone with sdcard slot+8gb experienced the same.
again, depends on your usage behavior..horses for courses.
I wasn't sure at first but don't miss having card slot in the end. 16gb is a lot (roughly half full local music and all) and btw the Galaxy Nexus even offers 32gb model (Expansys is listing it in both 16gb and 32gb) if you need more space.
In the end i don't regret getting my Nexus S (I miss not getting it in black tho).
Not a deal breaker in my opinion. Whether it's 16GB or 32GB, you'll find a way to fill it and have to transfer anyways.
I do use my 32GB card for a lot of music, but if Google music becomes more available, then perhaps that won't be an issue. Except I do love my PowerAmp.
Does it make flashing new ROMs any different?

No. Its important to remember there IS a 16 or 32 gb partition that behaves exactly as SD card, the only difference is you cannot remove it. But I don't think of this as a problem because you can just mount it to PC and copy/move everything all the same.

If you want stuff off it it's quicker to mount it and copy
For me, the issue was never about removing it, but more about whether it changed anything as far as modding is concerned. That, and the fact that I could get a galaxy s 2 or even Droid razor with 16 GB of memory then add my 32 GB card for enough space to replace my Zune.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I thought it would be a huge sacrifice before I bought the NS but it has really been a non-issue. There is plenty of space for apps + pictures and I use Subsonic for music. Only issue I foresee is if you plan on shooting several hours of 1080p video as that will easily eat up 16GB.
I've had my NS4G for about 2 weeks after having an xperia x10 for a year with an sd card for storage.
I use mine for music, and I come very close to filling it on a regular basis....I'd love to have the option to recycle my old 8gb card from my old phone, but I can't. And no, it doesn't hold "a ton" of music, as previously stated. I have about 4gb of music and about 4gb for apps, roms, backups, etc. and I have to always pick what music I want to transfer, and what music I am going to sacrifice.
Honestly, it's not THAT big of a deal, but having an option to expand your storage would be a no-brainer, I would think. It's not like it costs that much to add an sd slot...and I'm sure people who use their phone as an mp3 player, video camera, whatever, would happily pay an extra few $$ for the option to be able to expand your storage.
Also, I find it easiest to transfer apps to other people by just backing them up to SD card and inserting it in their phone for a quick install....I can't do this anymore, which means I have to jump through hoops and email the app or worse, use bluetooth, which is always a headache with people who don't know what they are doing.....ALWAYS. SD just saves me from the headaches.
Installing roms, apps, flashing zips, etc is exactly the same...you'll never even notice the difference unless you like to remove your sd card to transfer files all the time, or something like that.
In the long run it's up to you, and if you are used to having expandable storage, you will definitely miss it....but it's the size of the sacrifice that makes it a deal breaker or not.

hey if you want a google music invite PM your email
I rarely miss sd card slot actually never. Google music has all my music and it works every well you can even download your tracks for offline use.Plus my spotify account
I suppose if for someone that wants to load their phone with blueray rips and be able to watch every movie they every owned at any given second it might be a difficult situation.
Flashing roms is the same since your 16gb is partition for internal space then 12gb is left for storage and it acts the same as a sd card, even in a file manager it will show as teh sd card hope this helps
Didn't google release an API for google music, or am I thinking of something else. I would love it if PowerAmp could access google music streaming.

If you don't have a computer or laptop with you, then you can't mount to anything.
I can put GB's of movies on cards and swap them out whenever I want when traveling.
I have 80GB of music. I guess if you have a small amount of music or only want to carry a small % with you, then internal memory is fine.
If you keep phones 2 years (like most do on contract), 32GB might seem like a lot now, but how will that look in 20 months? With a card slot, it isn't an issue- you can upgrade anytime.
All that being said, for most people 32GB with no card slot is probably enough.

SD card problems

Some apps that I've pushed to my external SD card suddenly show up as not installed and I then have to reinstall from the market. Any ideas what's wrong?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
Right now the phone is having problems when you store any apps on the SD card. Make sure they are all stored internally and that should solve your problems.
you have 4gb of app storage, there's no need for apps2sd especially since it breaks the apps, sd card and everything else.
But for me such as with evernote the data is stored on the SD card and the app fails when the SD card unmount itself and I have to resync it.

never use the atrix 2 to format your card, do it with a card reader in windows
I'm on my 2nd Atrix 2. The first one had trouble with the sdcard as most of the people are writing about on XDA so I got a replacement. The 2nd one works perfectly with the same sdcard installed. In addition to fixing the sdcard issues, wireless works more reliably and call quality is better indicating they may have had some hardware quality control issues vs. software issues. If you're within your 30 days return period I would suggest getting a replacement.

I'm trying to be patient for that update. But, it's a tough bone to swallow spending $65 for an SD card just to store MP3s on. It would be nice to have some sort of rough ETA from Moto on the update (i.e., before my 30 days is up). I'd try a Samsung Infuse, but that would be taking a step backward in video and processor.

Try a warranty exchange. I promise the issues you have seen tylercarter, is not exactly what everyone else has, especially with google contacts disapperaing. If you bought it at ATT they are decent if you go into a store. If you bought it at best buy forget it, even 1 day past 30 day they will tell you too bad so sad. ATT took care of me three times even at 40 days, they let me switch to a different phone each time. That was back in march so.... give it a try.
I hate to say it, but fixes for this issues with the SDcard most likely will never come. Now if we can get the source code for this phone, then WE can fix the issue much like cyanogen did those type of things for many phones. I will definitely do the fix for it once we get that.

Has there been an MTP fix for Mac?

Is the no mpt for pissing anyone else off, because i'm at the point where i'm ready to sell, please don't link me to those crappy .sh files they work but they're annoying and don't access the internal portion
Idk what you're asking but you should use "Airdroid" in the Play Store for wireless file transfers from computer to GSIII.

To anyone who doesn't know:
The GS3 doesn't communicate with a Mac out of the box (And it is a royal pain in the a). You need a special program from Google called Android File Transfer.
To the OP: no, there's no fix, at least that I know of, and trust me I've looked... And it sucks. Everyone always suggests these programs from the play store, but they all SUCK!!
Android File Transfer was amazing, when it worked. All we can really hope for is a fix from either Google or Samsung to make it work again.
Samsung has a program called kies, which still sucks but is OK for syncing music...
Personally I've resorted to boot camp. Whenever I need to sync something I just boot up windows on my Mac.

google samsung sg3 easy ums fix, you will be able to mount external sd card easily not internal , it will look like another drive. works with my mid 2011 macbook air with snow mountain lion.
as for the internal portion , your only choice is airdroid. it does every thing, delete , upload , etc... airdroid does nto require active tethering, passive is just fine. I personally use airdroid a lot.
P.s. root required for ums fix ( like every android phone , without root , the phone is as useless as an iphone )

yeah all these f'ing OTA updates did for me was make my phone black screen of death CRASH all the time requiring battery pull, break Android File Transfer to my Mac, and make my phone run hotter. Which is probably because of that stupid Verizon remote "assistance" crap bloat they put in so they can probably record everything we are doing.
Verizon screws everything up. Wish another carrier had as good of LTE. I am probably going to exchange this for Note II because of these problems. I expect VZ to pay for it or most of it.
Unless Google goes back on their work, the MTP standard will continue. I see it as unlikely for connectivity to Macs to improve for ICS+ phones until Google provides a better tool.

What I've been running into on Apple's Support Forums is that AFT seems to work best only up to 10.6, some have had success with 10.7 and most are reporting absolute failure with Mountain Lion. I'd use AirDroid but my MacPro doesn't have a WiFi antennae, unless it can go through my router somehow as Kies Air does?
Has there been any progress on this?

SD card or not? I don't think is a problem, with a 32GB phone you have plenty of space. Now, if you like having a lot of music, photos, videos and movies it might not be enough. The SD card option is always welcome, after reading all of google reasons not to include a SD card on the nexus line up, I still don't get it. Is always nice to have some extra space.

32GB is enough on my end even if we can expect a 64GB model.

I had an S3. I didn't have too many issues with /extSdCard. It was nice having the extra memory but in this day and age, I no longer see the need for one as long as I have sufficient onboard space. That said, I bought the 16 GB N5 and it turned out it was not enough for me.

Actually I didn't have any issue with my Note II but I saw a LOT of users who were complaining about this or were wondering about how to apply such mod or how to return to a regular setup... It was a pain. We do not have this on the N5 and that's a good thing.

I had an S4 and it was great having extra space and never had problems, the reason why I would like to have one is because last week I had a situation with my nexus 5, I tried to install the SNAPSHOT M10 (CM11) OTA and I had a Nightly version installed so it messed up my phone and I had to push another ROM thru ADB .... if I had the SD slot I could've just plugged in an SD card on the computer and copied to the card
yea, and I got the 16GB N5 too, doesn't seem to be enough

You wouldn't have had to remove the sdcard. Just mount USB mass storage from recovery
adb push is only a minor inconvenience. You should be able to do it in your sleep.

None of my phones have had one, so while I may not know what I'm missing it seems I'm fine without it. Last phone was 16GB and currently at 32GB. I only ever keep a few albums of music on at one time, and I delete most videos or games when I'm done with them.
If I did use one I would make sure to buy the fastest SD card avaiable that cost 3x as much, as I would not want it to become a bottleneck.

I just recently learned ADB and stuff ....I'm a noob when it comes to things like this, but that's why I love nexus devices so much, it's easier to learn, I almost bricked my Galaxy S4 trying to root it

32gb is definitely not enough. I need that amount of space just for my apps, and AT LEAST another 32gb for my music. That's one of the main reasons why I always have an iPhone as well- more storage space. I had the 64gb iPhone 5s and it was maxed. My 32gb N5 is maxed, and I don't have a single song on it. I can't stand streaming music.

I hear you, but Google Play Music is not bad, the problem is that you need to have internet to listen to your songs... but i wanted more space for my music, I have over 80gb of music on my PC and I wanna be able to play them on my phone without having to stream it thru Play Music
I have an old iPod Video (1st gen) that I se for my music, it has 120GB and it's almost maxed with videos and music
For me, Play music just doesn't cut it. Every file I've ever listened to from Play has had horrible compression artifacts. Spotify extreme quality is passable in a pinch, but I like my lossless files. ALAC on iPod/iPhone, FLAC on everything else.
