can you just select apply update from sdcard? or do you have to wipe data/cache/dalvic just like a new install and then set up everything (homescreens) again?

Hi,
if the upgrade to ICS is available i want to do a full wipe with factory reset before.
How is the best way and in which order is best to do a full system cleansing with stock rom 2.3.6 installed.
First deletion of SD Card an than over the recovery menu resetting the rest?

I'm no expert but why would you delete the sdcard?
Root, install CWM recovery via rom manager. Select if you have 4g or not.
load rom onto root of the sdcard
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash rom
If you want to install a custom kernel instead of the one that comes with your rom of choice
After you flash the rom
Go back and rewipe dalvik
Then flash kernel
Reboot and enjoy

There's no point in wiping the dalvik twice, and instead of wiping the dalvik in CWM I'd use dalvik-wiper.zip by Morfic. Flashable zip, and it actually wipes the dalvik.
The rest is all good to the best of my knowledge.
Full wipe with GB stock rom before upgrade to ICS
Hi,
@polobunny
on the SD memory are two folders named .android_secure and Android where Android specific things are stored in. I have read that for a new and clean system build up would be good to delete this folders before.
@sookieball
I have only the normal stock rom 2.3.6 with stock recovery (no CWM) and want to stay there.
So then I think the best way is to go over the menu and do a reset to the factory settings. Delete the to folders on the SD memory manually and afterwards I will go into the recovery menu and delete the dalvik cache and then apply the ICS update.
Why i want to to this? I have at the moment a lot of useless Apps installed and i want to refresh all and start with a clean system with upgrading to ICS. Thats all.
Wherever you read that you should stop reading there.
Can somebody write a guide on how to flash nightlies from morrey
Ithink it would be very helpful to a lot of people
If you've installed a custom ROM before it's just like doing that again.
If you haven't, you should read through this page which links to everything you need to know how to do so:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209341
DO A NANDROID - and Keep it safe. (also recommend backing up apps via titanium backup)

Grab the nightly zip and gapps zip
put on desired location (internal or sd card)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe dalvik cache
install nightly then install gapps
And reboot.
If you're upgrading from another nightly -
If all you're upgrading is the rom and the gapps stays the same just wipe dalvik cache and install the new nightly, and then install the gapps. No need to do a data or factory reset unless specified.
If they say otherwise or a new gapps version is posted backup all of your stuff again, then do a factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, install the rom, install the new gapps, and you're good to go.
Hello
I'm currently running a custom ROM (darkobas) but I'm having a few problems.
I would like to do a new fresh/clean install but would like to wipe everything, not only data and caches. TWRP gives me the chance to do a complete wipe, including SD card wipe/erase.
The problem is, if I do a complete wipe, I will loose the downloaded ROM and GApps and I wont be able to install anything!!!
How can I solve this?
Thank you for your help

Checkmark and wipe system, data and the two caches. Uncheck and leave your SD data card alone.
Hey guys!
I'm currently running latest version of CrDroid ROM and latest version of Gapps. Unfortunately, for whatever reason some apps on it just like to crash repeatedly (main culprit is Snapchat and Google Contact Sync). I was told I should do a clean flash of my Gapps then reinstall it and it should fix it but I think all I've been doing is a dirty flash of it...? All I've been doing is going to TWRP > Wipe > Wipe Date, Cache, Dalvik > Then I reinstall Gapps.
That's not a clean flash is it....? DO I need to root my OPO to clean flash anything?
Thanks for the help :I
Clean flash of Gapps ? You mean clean flash of the whole ROM
Go to TWRP and wipe system, data, cache, dalvik without internal storage to preserve your installation .zips
Then flash the ROM, Gapps and reboot to system :good:

Hey guys,
General custom Rom question. Each time I install any custom, following the directions 100% it will never install properly. No matter what when I reboot back into TWRP it doesn't mount data.
Here's some instructions for an example from the latest one I tried Havok.
What am I doing wrong?
How to install
+ if you are coming from OOS then you will need to wipe your data as well as internal storage due to encrypted data but if you had any custom ROM before then just wipe data. No need to wipe internal storage.
for updating
1: Flash ROM
2: Flash TWRP installer
3: reboot again to recovery to boot from second slot.
4: Flash Gapps
5: Flash magisk
6: wipe dalvik cache and reboot to system.
That's all.
use tool all in one to decrypt internal storage
