To this day I still believe that the keyboard from the Droid x or Droid 2 is the best keyboard to come out. It has huge keys and is very quick to type on. But for some reason it doesn't play nice with gingerbread roms. I can push the apk/lib file to system and lib on Skyraider 4.3 and it works just fine. But using the exact same method it doesn't work on CM7.
Does anyone have any insight into why this is (because SR4.3 is GB leak based)? Or can someone fix it up for cyanogen? My knowledge on this is pretty limited. Thanks in advance.

Skyraider is a 2.2 based rom.
I dint have any other info, sorry, just fyi. I loved that keyboard the most as well but the gingerbread keyboard is almost as good.

You're right my mistake, he just put in some pieces from GB not the base. And the GB is almost as good, but the key size from the X one is what really draws me. Plus I think it looks nice. And yeah that's what I was wondering if it could be pulled out of the update, which is beyond my skill set.

I want this keyboard too. Almost makes me want to go back to older roms just to have the keyboard.

Yeah I know same here. I love CM7 but skyraider is nice just to have it. I'm going to take a closer look at it when I'm back at my computer tonight.

I've been looking for this for months and haven't had any luck. Hopefully someone figures something out.
Until someone finds a fix, I downloaded the keyboard app called MultiLing Keyboard from the market, and seems to work good. the keyboard is almost identical to the droid x keyboard. Also you can change the settings and increase the keys/font size.

Is it just my phone, or does anyone else have the problem where using the droid x multi touch keyboard fc's with the FroYo update?
EDIT...running deodexed froyo with netarchy kernel and riptide theme.
I just installed it and yeah it is force closing on me too.
Have you played around with swype yet?...it is really bad ass.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If you haven't seen yet, the htc froyo keyboard now supports multi-touch, just throwing that out there.
I'm still using swype too btw, but the stock option is really quite nice.
Very true about the multi touch on the stock group sense keyboard. I like it. I however dislike the sound of the space and the enter. If anyone could verify the change it would be great.

NO it does not work. It will not work until Froyo comes out on the DroidX and someone ports over the new version.
Look at this thread, someone has a Droidx running 2.2
I still use swype (quite frequently). However, I still prefer pecking for really long posts for whatever reason.
And yeah...I did realize that the new HTC keyboard does have multitouch and a better word correction system...so I guess this keyboard is obsolete now
I'll take no credit for this and I'll not be responsible for anything you do to your phone.
tested and working on my dinc cyanogenmod 6.1 nightly 173
edit: here is a working version posted from the other thread. supposedly multi touch and predictions work. I haven't tested it yet myself.
Works pretty nice but kind of a disappointment that its not multitouch. I font get why they would release a non multitouch keyboard as a new release bit overall its really smooth and responsive.

Its a decent keyboard. Wish it were multi touch. Also disabled some htc widgets I had on home screen. No problem i just reloaded them. The keyboardbisblagging like crazy advice type this as well. Wow look at that word I juat ccreated.

Confirmed not working on desire z port

Completely agree I don't know how someone in there right mind thought it would be a good idea at this point in time to release a non myltitouch keyboard. I definitely itely felt like it was slowing me down.

Works fine with MIUI 12.03. Predictions and all.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
This has working text prediction baked in, multitouch and works on most build I tested it on (CM6, Myn's, RR, MIUI) not working on Desire z.
Working Gingerbread Keyboard
Got FC when trying on DesireZ.
I thought i read somewhere that it was multi-touch. Sucks that its not.
the port I posted is in fact multitouch. go check it out!

Fantastic news. I was just responding to peoples reports of lack of multi touch. Would definitely try it but I'm on a desire z rom.
one of the catch 22's of life I suppose...
I can confirm that it works on senseless revolution.
I feel like the space bar is much smaller though. Feels like I am hitting the v key instead of the space bar more than normal. But definitely feels very responsive

Works and looks great on UltimateDroid 2.0.3. The best ROM just got even better!
Works on virtuous everything is great on it but I do miss my Smileys being two clicks away. Also this didn't replace my stock keyboard which is nice

Not sure what you guys are seeing but definitely not multitouch try typing the word he. With miltitoucj you could leave your finger on the h and press the e and the word would register. Instead with my right thumb still on h and pressing e with my left thumb it continually registers the h button. Not true myltitouch.

IISiDeK1CKII's port works perfectly (mutli-touch chording, prediction, etc.) on my Droid Inc running SkyRaider 3.3.4 with the Adrenelyn v2 kernel.
I love the new keyboard. So much better the only thing i will miss is the swipe up to get to numbers on the 2.2 keyboard.
I like the Cymod7 ROM so far. But, I don't like this keyboard. Anyone know where to find the one that all Android Revolution and the HTC stock ROM offer?
I'd appreciate getting my hands on that.
this is the best keyboard by far i have found....huge amount of customization and the ability to back/restore the settings and dictionary is amazing. Use v27, high res, froyo version.

Here you go
I've used this on CM7 and I'm currently using it with MIUI. Just make sure you install clicker_hi.apk first.

This is the exact keyboard I've been using on cyan 7. It's the stock HTC keyboard but doesn't have the arrows I don't think.
Thanks. I'll give it a whirl. I'm trying to get the best ROM option figured out for my Inspire 4G.

Thanks a lot. This is perfect except for the lack of arrow keys. If we could get a version that has the arrow keys on CM7, I would be completely satisfied.
Download SwiftKey X beta. It's available in the market and is my favorite since switching to CM7. I also missed the stock HTC keyboard and this is the closest one to it since it has the arrows available.

OK now, your title got me searching. This is what i found -

The first one is the one you want. LOOKS SO GODDAMN AWESOME WITH MY BLACK DESIRE S !!!!!!!!!!!!
PS - swype SUCKS. Big time. As for swift key, it's just an iOS keyboard rip-off.
Been using 'keyboard from Android 2.3' app by Steven Lin, work fine on the desire S. I also dislike the htc keyboard and hoping one day I can turn the desire s into stock android...

Well... Don't like the keyboard out of the box neither Android keyboard . Personally using Better keyboard 8. And one more thing : got Nexus S few days back and "hate pure " Android - soon ugly. The HTC Sense is the best UI (my opinion) ...

I'm not one for stock keyboards, but this thing is amazing so far.
Before I load a custom ROM, anyone know where I can get a zip of this so I can reinstall it later on?
you will still have Sense keyboard if you flash a custom ROM, Except from AOSP ROMs. But the keyboard isnt compatible with them anyway

Awh.
I planned on flashing to CM9 once it became more stable, and I believe that is an AOSP rom.

I had to use an iPhone keyboard for about 2 months after my mytouch4G broke, so maybe it's easily impressed coming from the iPhone keyboard
this is the worst keyboard ever.
ICS STOCK or swiftkey is the only way
yeah, just get the latest SwiftKey beta (it's free):

and forget you ever used Sense one.

Not a fan of Swiftkey honestly.
I really do like the Sense keyboard. Leaps and bounds better than the stock ICS keyboard or any of the other flavors. Just my opinion though
I like the sense kb...better at typing than swype but you can still swype words when you want.

Is swiftkey the same as Swype? I love the Swype keyboard. Way better than sense keyboard.

the sense keyboard would be great if i could get rid of those annoying arrows. they take up to much room on the screen.

Agreed. It's funny, I like the arrows on other keyboards, but the magnifying glass selection popup window is awesome and kinda negates the need for it.

I actually don't like it at all, I always hit the period instead of the spacebar, is there a way to get the stock ICS keyboard working?

But has a free version too.

I actually like the sense keyboard, but the voice button bugs the crap out of me. I hit it constantly.
I personally really like the Sense Keyboard.
Dont know if all ICS-Keyboards have Swype, but thats the best thing about it.
Normally when writing I switch to Landscape, but I always touch the "Back" or "Home" Buttons ...
I guess no alternate Keyboard can fix that ^^
Like I said, I like the Keyboard and I will stay with a ROM which atleast got that Keyboard somehow implemented ... or atleast Swype ^^
I love the HTC keyboard. I have swipe and swiftkey installed and have only used them once. HTC did a great job on it in my opinion.
Yea the keyboard is nice and better than swype in my opinion hell it even recognizes slang and curse words
